Root from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160511
simply dl, unzip to desktop, install other files on website, plug in phone "with usb debugging" and set to charge. Run Alpharevx and it will do all the work for you. It will also install Clockwork Recovery.
From there I did this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160745
and after that simply install the ROM you want in the Dinc2 Android Dev section of this forum. I have used CM7 and MIUI 1.7.8. I was a CM fan but am really enjoying the MIUI interface and themes. You can DL Rom Manager from the market and have it DL and install the latest version of either one of these themes, or you can dl them from this site and install them manually.

It came with it preinstalled I read that much and when I saw that got a little frustrated

first thing to do when you're DInc2 arrives is check the software info. If you're still on Froyo, then you're golden, you can use a free software utility made by Alpharev X to S-OFF (bypass the digital signature that prevents unauthorized software installation). If it comes preinstalled with Gingerbread, you're boned; the only way to S-OFF is to use an XTC Clip which will cost you abit of cash. If you find yourself needing to go that route, PM me, I have an unused PAYG XTC Clip with 1 credit.
In came with gingerbread is there not a way to flash the froyo Rom like the fascinate if not I don't think ill root for a while in case I need to take my phone in

So since I messed up my first Droid by rooting and then OTA updating I was cautious about rooting my shiny new Droid Incredible 2. I updated to 2.3 OTA because I was excited about some of the features I saw in the Nexus S but unfortunately not all those features made it to my phone. Soon after I read that I saw a post of an OC Incredible 2 with a Quadrant score of over 3000. I am asking anyone out there, is there a way to root OTA 2.3 and if there isn't can some one as soon as they hear how to post here. Thanks.
Look into XTC Clip. I don't know if it can or not, but it's probably ur 1st choice right now.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
XTC clip is currently the only method, unfortunately. And in reality, that is only getting you S-OFF. However, from there, you can move on to rooting.
No GB root at the moment.

well if your wife's phone is still on froyo, you should be able to use alpharevX to s-off then root it.
EDIT: just realized the title of this thread. too many threads open, got confused.
I see the thread that says there is no root for Gingerbread but I've seen other posts that say there is an experimental beta for root.
Can someone enlighten me?
I have a buddy with a INC 2 and looking to root it, but it has Gingerbread already loaded.
There's currently no software root. The only option is the XTC clip.
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
awww.. makes me sad.
will check back here in a few weeks, maybe some luck then
Yup.. no root for people who updated to GB or got it preloaded. Stock isn't horrible though. I haven't had any real problems except wanting a couple more features like abit louder speaker or stronger vibrate options.
You can always get an XTC clip to S-Off. So no, it's not impossible. It's just not free
Edit: sorry, Nasty, didn't read see you already mention it

I may be wrong, but I don't believe gingerbread has a known exploit yet, for any phone. So even if you get s off, I am not sure it will help because root is a whole different thing.

Well, you are wrong. AlphaRev and Unrevoked have implemented a GB root exploit for both the HTC Sensation and the HTC Evo 3D in the latest Revolutionary solution.
In Twitter land there has been some success with other HTC devices, but the Dinc2 is proving to be troublesome.
Actually, I am rollin' a Moto Droid X2 and they just released a rooted GB update before my phone allows OTA update. Root it up!

Must be a new exploit. Last I checked the only root path for phones with gingerbread was a rollback to froyo.

You rooted it when it had froyo though. It is easy to flash a pre rooted rom, op is asking for a way to root an already installed gb.

If you manage to s-off the phone I would think you could flash a custom recovery with fastboot and from there flash a rooted rom.

Revolutionary uses the same temp-root exploit as it did with alpharevx, which means, that temp-root exploit is patched in GB. So revolutionary only works on froyo Inc2s.

Why is he wrong? He said there's no GB root for the INC 2 but was pointing out to kingsway8605 that there is such a thing as a GB root.
Gingerbreak, it's been out for a while. But since Verizon likes to patch to OTA's and cover that exploit (Just like they did with the Droid X) Yes, it's proving to be rather difficult.

I reads kings post as gb on inc 2 doesn't have an exploit yet. Because if I remember correctly he made a comment about temp root on the 3d a while back. Either way no big deal

I'm wondering if there is any way to rollback from Android OS 2.3 to 2.2? Anybody ever had to do this on the Incredible 2?
Nope...unless you use a xtc clip, root, and then flash a Rom.

You would think a signed RUU or ZIP could be flashed via the bootloader. I updated by putting the 2.3 signed zip and flashed it via the bootloader. Weird that you couldn't return it back to a signed 2.2
Here's to hoping Revolutionary will exploit GB on the Incredible 2.

Just as HTC has patched the various root exploits as the newer devices have come out, they have also added version checking to the bootloader to prevent you from flashing an older ROM with a lower version number. It didn't use to be that way, but that's just the way HTC is rolling now.
Let's hope the unlocked bootloader policy with eventually become available for existing devices like the Dinc2 / IncS.
you would think that because the evo and sensation are similar it would be easy to find an s off solution

It's only in English, not in laziness.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
It's not that it was laziness. The phone is not mine and rooting/s-off was not a priority for what this person was going to use the phone for.
The question was already answered bangdrum. So please, take your asinine comments elsewhere.
There's a search function for a reason. So yes it is laziness. There is already at least 5 threads asking this question.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using Tapatalk
I agree with bangdrum. My DINC2 came preloaded with GB so i didn't have a choice of upgrading or not and right now I can't afford an XTC clip because I'm moving to another state. Everyday I check a variety of forums to see if she off has been achieved. It's not hard to use the search button or even footprint for that matter. It's NEW posts like this that I see EVERY day that get my hopes up. This goes out to everyone........ Do a little searching and you will find your answer.

I am S Off by Xtc clip , and if have already done 2.3=>2.2 and reverse , its possible butif you arent S Off using the CLip i cant be certain .

If you want to call it laziness, that's fine. But you don't have to come in and say "How many threads of these are there going to be"? The question was already answered... just leave it at that.

Well rather than go digging for an old thread would it be okay to ask here, now?
My INC2 came with Froyo and I upgraded to GB but is it possible to do a factory reset back to Froyo? Or am I stuck with GB?

Sevenzig, just ignore that troll.
If you have updated to GB, currently there isn't a way to obtain temp root in the Revolutionary s-off process.
As another member stated, HTC placed checks to not allow you to downgrade (example: 2.3 back to 2.2).
Hopefully here soon temp root can be obtained on the DInc2 with GB. There is temp root for the Evo 3D and Sensation and they came preloaded with 2.3.3. So hopefully Revolutionary has something up there sleeve soon.

Damn. I wish this was like modding 360's before the Lite-On drives needed to be speared to flash them.
A month or so ago I used the alpharevx method to root. Today the 2.3.4 update was released. Since the alpharevx method changes the bootloader, my phone won't accept the verizon update.
How do i get back to completely stock to allow this update to push through? I saw JCase's method but it seems risky and complicated. Is there an easier way?

Since you are rooted, why would you want to take the OTA and lose root?
I'm having issues with my phone and want to return it to Verizon.
What exactly is wrong with JCase's method? Seems like your only option to me. Here's a video walkthrough, it really doesn't seem too scary.
