[Q] Xperia Arc GPS Not Working! - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Whenever I go to google maps or mapdroid, and tell it to locate me. It just says "Your current location is temporarily unavailable". I am running the latest software version. The GPS worked fine about 2 weeks ago, I haven't really used it since then. And whenever I tell it to locate me, I see the GPS symbol on the bar at the top (The satellite thing on the bar you can pull down) Any ideas? And also, if it helps, I got the phone about a month ago, from Rogers.
And, I can locate myself when using wifi networks. But when I am not connected by wifi, the GPS won't work.

Hello
I would try an app like "GPS Test" to test the GPS reception alone.
If it fails then do a full wipe and flash the .238 via Flashtool to come back to a real "factory" state...
Hope this helps.

Thank you for replying. I did the GPS Test, and it did not do anything. So I guess there is a problem. Can you please tell me how to do the full wipe, and how to flash the .238. And, is there anyway I can back up my apps and photos?

Hi There,
First of all the backup, you can back up your apps using the "app backup&Restore" application you can find on the market. Your photos are on the SD card so you won't lose them.
Flashing the .238 original firmware is at the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052067
You can go to the flashtool section (the wipe would be done by the tool if you tick the "Wipe data" tick box in flashtool), you can also go to the development area where you can find also anything you need.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Can't install applications on Motorola DEFY 2.3.4 UK

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but, I've looked everywhere and can't find a solution.
I flashed a UK 2.3.4 Sbf onto my (US)Motorola DEFY to unbrick it. Everything works perfectly except for the fact that I am not able to install any downloaded apps from the Android Market. It shows the download's progress in the status bar but, it never installs.
Please help.
HSPA
Hi,
This is most likely the low speed HSPA modem on the Defy. Try installing when you are on WIFi
Nope, that wasn't it.
I have the same problem, I flashed the SEA Froyo and when I Install something from the market it downloads for a while like 2 secs then the downloading status is gone like nothing happened. I have a Fix for all for the uk 3.4.2-117 with the market included but haven't tried yet, I'm not sure if it won't affect the other files
Send it to me! I would like to try it!
this problem i think about the data saver.in the settings menu> battery& datamanager>data saver(should be off)>and data delivery menu >background data (should be on)>data roaming (should be off)>data enabled(should be on)

Broken GPS! Can't detect or lock on to satellites!

Hey guys,
I got this Samsung Galaxy SIII about a month ago and I don't think I have yet to get a gps lock with this phone. Unfortunately, I didn't try it until after rooting and installing a few different roms.
I unrooted and flashed a stock (bell) rom, factory reset, erase cache, etc. and I still do not know what's wrong with it.
Everything is checked in the "Locations" menu in settings...
I've tried Fasterfix, resetting AGPS from GPS status and GPS test; no dice.
Google navigation just stays in the "searching for your location" screen and it never finds my location.
I've even stayed outside with a clear view of the sky with WIFI and LTE and still couldn't lock on.
I also don't see a GPS icon when it's supposedly in use (my old HTC Desire had this).
I'm kind of speculating whether this is a hardware problem or the GPS somehow got disabled.
I searched and found out there are "secret" codes for the Galaxy SIII, including a GPS menu but it doesn't work with our model, unfortunately.
I'm kind of running out of ideas and trying to avoid sending the phone in. Any help would be great
--------------------------------------------EDIT!!!!!! FIX!!!!------------------------------------
I fixed it!! Special thanks to frelnik for his advice.
After un-rooting and flashing my original firmware/rom I still didn't get my GPS (no icon in status bar).
I rooted again: still no gps notification.
BUT
I flashed graffixnyc's Sprint based rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956463
I immediately checked my GPS through Google's navigation and the GPS showed up again in the status bar. It eventually found my location!!
I nandroid back to my rooted stock rom and it remained! I can now lock on to 11 satellites from the basement of my home!
Special thanks to both graffixnyc and frelnik!

Did you at any point install a Sprint-based ROM?
If it doesn't work after the steps outline above (I had the same problem, and unfortunately that wasn't enough to fix mine), then flash back the Spring ROM you last used and see if the GPS is working. If it is, then use CWM to restore a stock Nandroid backup from before the problems started. That cleared it up for me, and now my GPS is working in all ROMs once again.
Michael
Yeah I have installed a Sprint-based rom.
Unfortunately I have already odin'd to the stock Bell version and factory reset'd, still doesn't work.
Because of that, I don't really have a nandroid anymore, it got deleted.
I'm gonna try rooting and flashing the Sprint one again (it was the one that was released just this month and ported to our version) and see how that works.

I can confirm that 1) Odin back to stock, 2) factory reset from phone's sytem settings will get gps back. I Odin'd back to stock rooted image and did the reset. Now running latest Ariel with gps lock within 5-10 seconds. I had run some of the sprint based roms and didn't even notice it was gone until I was on Serenity. Reflashing ATT rom wouldn't fix. I would assume you could get back to stock/working gps, then restore your backup (assuming not sprint based)
Guys I fixed it! Check OP!

I have look alot of places some say just turn off and turn on the location but that doesnt help either
Can you guys please help me
Right now I am running Rootool box the stable version with fancy kernal.
When i turn on gps... in the status bar it says searching for gps forever.... and the gps icon keeps on blinking.
Thank you
Have you changes Radio baseband?
If not then change it and maybe then GPS works!
GPS and radios have nothing to do with each other.
Does everything else work ok, like phone and data? Is the phone activated and have a good sim? Are you using the gps outside with a clear view of the sky? Have you waited up to 20 minutes for satellite acquisition?
If you answer yes to all the above, try downloading gps status app and use that to download new agps data. See if that works. If not, sounds like you may have a hardware issue.

is there any other option?
if this is a hard ware problem should i talk to samsung and ask them to fix it?
Your last hope would be to restore a factory image again and see if that helps. Otherwise, Samsung would be your best bet

should i go to 4.0 build the earliest or 4.2.2?
i had similar problem (no gps) when i tried to force OTA ( i think 4.1.1?) deleting the GOOGLE SERVICES FRAMEWORK
i GOT the ota
but after it started i never catched a gps signal
tried to reset but nothing
i had to manually reinstall from fastboot ( but i was on stock at that time.... dunno if using a modded recovery is SAME thing or it leaves some file behind)
hope it works....

[Q] SlimKat 4.4.4 and WiFi Reconnect issue

First, I've had this issue since Build 6.8. I was hoping a Clean Install using Philz Touch Recovery v6.48.4, which is the latest, and selected Wipe Data and select Clean to install new ROM which Formats /data, /cache, /system. I also wiped Dalvik.
Once completed I did the following:
Clean Install of Slim-d2lte-4.4.4.build.7.0-OFFICIAL-5979
I then installed
Slim_full_gapps.BETA.4.4.4.build.7.x-190
Rebooted and waited for SlimKat to boot-up. WiFi/Data both full scale. Everything Restored just fine and things are running smooth.
Then after running a few errands outside of WiFi Range, I returned home within WiFi range only to find out that WiFi had not reconnected. It tells a WiFi connection is available but will not reconnect to it. So I go into Setting and select WiFi and tried to manually reconnect. It says connecting and then goes back to Saved Connection without connecting. This same thing on other WiFi connections such as McDonald's or other open WiFi Connections.
I then do a re-boot and everything is back to normal. WiFi connects without issue and again things are fine and running smooth.
Every time I leave WiFi range and then return within WiFi range, the problem re-occurs. A Re-Boot and everything back to normal.
One thing I've always noticed when doing a Clean Install as stated above, all of my previously stored WiFi connection are still there. Same on Ringtone/Notification Tones.
With the problem I'm having, could it be something that is not being wiped/cleared out during the Clean Install process. Or wondering if it could be somehow that the WiFi Radio has gotten corrupted.
I have also tried different Kernels but again the result is the same.
Hope this is not too much of a noob question and I have searched about everything I can think of. Wondering if anyone has had this problem or have any ideas of what could cause the problem.
I really hope I can get this figured out. Thanks
If you don't have to manually reconnect and enter your password, then its not being wiped. (Or you are restoring it from a backup.) Have you tested it after the clean flash, but before restoring anything? What are you restoring and how?
It sounds like a Rom issue otherwise and you should probably ask in the rom thread.

First I don't know what I've missed wiping. When I say restoring, I'm referring to letting Google re-downloading everything from the Play Store.
I know the WiFi radio are in a different location but like you, when I do a Clean Install by formatting /data /cache /system and wiping dalvik, I wasn't expecting all the stored WiFi connections to still be there, but they are.
Its possible its being restored by Google's backup, but I don't use it myself so I'm not certain about that. Its also possible the rom may save the config file elsewhere. Again though, I don't use cm/aosp based roms so I'm not too familiar with any of their specifics.
Next time you try a clean flash, do not sign into google during setup. Instead go straight to testing wifi to see if it still remembers the connections. Do you have it set to auto connect to any open networks? If so you might want to turn that off.
Have you searched or asked in the roms thread yet? It might be a known issue or something a few others have encountered and know how to fix.

Ya I don't sign into Google at the initial start up after the flash because my WiFi is no able to connect. I will double check the auto connect feature. But I having this issue with other 4.4.4 ROMs also because I tired however on those ones I am amvle to toggle WiFi on but in advanced it has the region set to Europe and when I switch it to Canada it doesn't want to save the change

Pixel 2 XL cellular data issue with any custom ROM

Recently i have entered some state in which mobile data is busted on my phone. I have tested multiple android pie roms to find the same thing in each. When i flash the latest stock android (PQ1A.181205.002), mobile data is fine. In this broken state i can see the signal bars with a little 'R' by them (notification on lost mobile data connection Data roaming is turned off. tap to turn on). Every time i navigate into Settings> Network & internet > Mobile Network > Advanced > Carrier Settings. The screen will flash and take me back to Mobile Network, this happens with every custom rom tested. The app SprintDM tries to set up the phone 5 times and then fails. Phone codes seem to have no effect. the code 4636 will allow me to view current info in which it says mobile data disconnected. It doesn't appear to matter if i connect to wifi and allow the basic stock apps to update first. Reboots do not help. I even tried flashing the modem and radio for PQ1A.181105.017.A1 and OPM4.171019.021.R1. I can also say the phone app shows a message "This device is not supported and phone calls may not work correctly". Phone calls work fine. Previously i was running LiquidRemix (10.0.2) just fine, everything working. Randomly mobile data died so i tried a update to LiquidRemix (10.0.3) and still busted. Tested multiple other PIE roms to find the same. And again if i flash any stock firmware mobile data is fine. Anyone else see this or have an idea of how to fix this for custom roms?
I rooted my pixel2xl yesterday and installed Havoc OS.
Today I was out with my family and was trying to navigate via Google maps and it continuously displayed error "try again"
Status bar was showing lte connection then I tried opening chrome and was unable to use mobile data even if it being on and active.
I am planning to move to Stock again tomorrow

vipulkarkar, did you find out any other additional info on this? I went back to stock and everything is fine but would very much rather be running a custom rom.
Just seeing this post, fortunately, I've not run into this issue on stock or custom roms ... What I do run into, on stock or custom roms, is when I leave my house, with a T-Mobile CellSpot, I tend to switch to 3G or H+ in an LTE area. I sometimes have to cycle airport mode a couple times to get LTE back.. So odd and annoying!
Is there something we Sprint users could do to help the devs include Sprint connectivity in their roms? Like provide a nandroid backup of our device or ?
