The settings for data roaming on this phone is confusing. At first I was getting messages that I am getting into an area where there is roaming and click on roam to continue even though I am at home where I have service without roaming. I clicked never show this message again and clicked roam. I still get the message. Also when I woke up this morning the signal bar had a triangle above it while the bars were unlit as if i didn't have any service and then in a second it returned to normal. It also does that frequently when I have 3g off and on. What is the meaning of that?
How I do I set up the data roaming where I don't get messages? What is data guard? Also how do I set up the data roaming options where I can save battery.
What is everyone setup for data? Do you guys have it as sprint only or automatic? I would appreciate anyone's help. Thank you.
put ur roaming into sprint only by default its on automatic.
If I turn it off and go to an area where I don't have service, can I turn on roaming manually to see if I get service?

I am a bit confused as to what constitutes roaming with Sprint. As far as I can tell, the only way to tell what network I am on is the little network indicator on the notification bar. I have a few questions, and I apologize if they are stupid ones. I tried searching for the answers, but have come up short.
Is there ever any time where my network indicator will read 3G and I will be roaming?
Am I always roaming whenever it says 1X?
I hear people mention EVDO, is that the same thing as 1X? If not, is EVDO considered roaming or not?
Also, I have a couple of questions about the roaming options on CyanogenMod. If I change my network to "Affiliated Networks," I am unable to get data transfers to work unless I turn on both Data Roaming and International Data Roaming, despite the fact that I am well inside the borders of my country. Is this a well known issue, or am I experiencing something out of the ordinary?
Thanks in advance.

1. it wont show 3g if you are roaming, normally.
2.not always roaming when it says 1x but if you are roaming it will always show 1x
3. evdo is 3g so see above.

its not supposed to connect to 3g when roaming.
Don't you get a triangle next to your signal bar if you're roaming? I do. That would also indicate data roaming as well....
is there an advantage to roaming? I get free 3g data but I usually keep in on the sprint mode and turn off roaming.
Whats the benefit of keeping it on?

If you leave roaming turned off, you can hit areas where you either need to roam or you will get 1x data. Turning on roaming gives you the best chance to maintain a fast connection.
I'm using the Samsung Epic and i just bought roam control...when i press roam only it goes into roam signal but there is no 3g or 1x or any data...did i do something wrong? how do i get data to work? Thanks
go to settings from the home screen and make sure you have data roaming turned on... but if I'm not mistaken, you will only ever data roam on 1x (talking from experience, not any known document or anything)

Data roaming is on... any other possible solution?
I have used this app before without a hitch. I couldn't get data to work until I picked "roam" for the data roam guard.

You may have already done this, but ensure your data network is ACTIVATED (hold down the power button and instead of selecting power off, select data network). If it is already activated, i.e. you get a 3G signal when you get a Sprint signal, then try deactivating it and reactivating it.
Btw, you are not using a 3G toggle widget of any sort are you? The ones that actually work only work about 50% of the time (buggy), so I don't use them anymore.
If all else fails, try rebooting, wait for a Sprint 3G symbol then switch to Roam.
I thought I remember from somewhere that our roaming is onto the verizon network. And that in the sprint/ verizon agreement, that sprint customers who roam on verizon are restricted to 1x.
I think this is part of why with sprints ec05, it won't show 1x, just 3g no matter what.
This is NOT the "LOS" bug, as its commonly understood, where you lose your cellular service (circle with a line for those who are lucky enough to be informed their phone crashed). This is the dreaded Roaming Triange of Data Death.
Background: Occasionally, when roaming, I lose all data connectivity, and I get the triangle warning in the notification bar that says "You have lost data connectivity be...." and of course, its impossible to read the rest of the warning. Standard deductive reasoning, assisted by posts here, tell me its a probably something like "because of your roaming data guard settings."
Some here have suggested that Samsung phones are unable to roam on PCS data.
What I did:
1) I check my roaming data settings, and I have the option to roam enabled, and roam guards enabled. I disable the roam guard. No data. I check the box again, no data.
2) I reboot the phone, no data.
3) I uncheck both the voice and data roam settings for domestic and international and reselect the domestic. I get the "Are you sure...?" prompt, and select yes. No data.
4) I uncheck the data roam guard, and then go back to Roam Settings, uncheck and recheck data roaming, and voila! I get the big triangle that asks me if I want to data roam, I say yes, and I have data again! 3G, too. I pulled 1.3mbs in the middle of the forest in northern Wisconsin. (I was roaming on Cellcom, apparently)
I was able to reproduce the problem pretty easily... It seems like when the roam guard is enabled, you don't actually get the Allow? Yes/No warning prompt when you start to data roam. However, turning it off the guard by itself didn't fix the problem... I also had to turn off the ability to data roam, and then turn it back on before the phone allowed me to roam.
I hope this helps someone else!

Yes, it's a known bug.
There were several threads about it.
Here's my own.

Well it only asked you because you turned off the Guard. Once you say yes again the Guard is rechecked.

But the guard settings should be permanent. If I have disable the roaming guard, it should never ask me if I want to roam. I shouldn't have to recheck it, and then uncheck it again in order for it to allow roaming.
I updated my phone to EI 22 using Nubernel-2.6.35_v0.0.1 and ever since when ever my phone roams I get no data not 1x nothing I was on PRL 1114 so thinking maybe that was causing i updated and it went to 60683 but I still get no data when roaming. I tried changing all the settings in the roaming tab under settings no luck anyone else having this problem?? How do I fix I use to get 3g roaming with the PRL 11114 no i get no data at all when roaming on any PRL
Check your roaming settings.
Menu>Settings>Wireless and Network>Roaming (at least that is what mine is) (EI22 ERA Beta 3.3)
There are settings in there for Roaming Mode, Settings, and Guard.
I'd recommend Roaming Mode to be automatic.
Roaming settings to be Voice and Data... (Domestic I imagine)
Roaming guard prompts you if you want to roam on each of the settings checked.
Hey thanks for the reply I have played around with all of those different setting to no avail but I think today it finally fixed its self. The problem was when I went to a roaming area and the prompt comes up asking if you want to roam, well it would do that but the prompt would actually never come up so I could go ahead and click ok to roam. but for some reason it did today finally so all good I even tried turning the prompt off and just telling it to roam in the settings like you said but that didn't work either so I don't know what the deal was but it is working now finally.
Glad to hear! Have a good weekend!
I was unable to make phone calls for an entire day yesterday because "all circuits are busy". I was even unable to call Sprint because of the same message. I flashed the roam only module and switched to the roaming network and I was able to make my phone calls. But I also lost data connection because while roaming, there is only 1x data.
My problem now is that I cannot select the network to go to automatic. It is greyed out and stuck on Roam only ! (see pic)
I reflashed the whole Rom. No change. What do I do??
