I bought the Otterbox Defender for me and the Trident Kraken for my wife, here's a quick run down on how they compare after using them for about a month.
Cosmetic:
Kraken has more color shell to choose from, and Defender is a bit boring to look at.
Build/Construction:
Defender slaughtered the Kraken! The lower latch of the Kraken broken off after opening the case a few times, so the shell no longer attached properly at the bottom, the Kraken hard shell is made out of some sort of soft plastic, smooth and softer surface but also quite thin the middle section of the top hard-shell is the Achilles heel and can be broken easily, though the smooth surface is easier to slide in and out of pocket. Defender has MUCH thicker and stronger hard shell, silicone skin is on top of hard shell instead, which provide the extra grip and prevent from slipping off of hand, downside is it doesn't slide in/out of pocket as smooth. The screen protector is flush on Defender, Kraken doesn't fit so well, have to press extra hard on the Kraken touchscreen. Silicone buttons are easier to press on Defender. Battery cover is worst on Kraken, it partially blocked the aftermarket mini-usb adapter from being fully inserted into the jack so charging goes on and off sometime.
Summary:
I'm buying another Defender to replace the broken Kraken on my wife's phone. For $24(at Amazon) the Defender case kicks ass! Can't believe I paid $50 for the Kraken(bought direct from Trident), I would never buy another Trident Kraken again after seeing how cheaply it is made.
Well, one thing that would turn me off to it, is the fact that they called it the Motorola Droid Incredible 2. So, to me that says they don't know what they're doing.

Hows typing in landscape? I had a hard time hitting the space bar with the defender and inc1. I kept hitting c or v. I hated it.

Its not too hard. Lol as a matter of fact, I typed this in landscape just to make sure. Haha

No typing issue here with defender or kraken in landscape.
Thanks for the review! I was planning on buy the Trident Kraken for my wife's DInc 2. Now I know to stick with the Defender.

The Kraken is very stylish and my wife loves the pink color shell LOL But it has many flaws and doesn't last. I almost snap the middle part(very fragile thin bridges) of the top cover in half several times attempting to separate the shell to clean the phone.
We were using the Trident Cyclops for our Samsung Fascinate and absolutely LOVE them, the Cyclops is about as tough as the Otterbox Defender and fit perfectly on the Fassy. Unfortunately the Kraken sucks, the Engineer must have been drunk or stoned when they designed the Kraken for the Dinc2, base on the quality the Kraken worth $10 top, NOT $49, and I wouldn't trust it to protect our phone from a >3ft drop.
I love my defender. They have great support for their customers, and its a sturdy case. I had bought one for my iPod touch back when I thought apple was good. Their products are absolutely amazing, and I reccomend them to anyone with any device its available for.

I use the Otterbox Defender as well and it feels as if I could play baseball with my phone and it would be fine. I've already left it on the roof of my car, and proceeded to drive off. The phone fell off while I was going ~30mph. Found it in the middle of the road solid as a rock. Defender ftw
Pulling out of picket is difficult however, buy I mostly just have it in hand. The screen protector is flawless.
I've been thinking of switching to the Commuter though, which is slightly less bulky (and protective) than the Defender.

Defender fan as well. Had an issue with mine after first buying it, did some damage to the case, but kept the phone safe (probably should have broken the phone in half)... Talked to Otterbox CS, a few days later, presto, new Defender at my door free of charge ( I offered to pay to just buy the front piece as that was all I needed). Great company and great product. I can't see myself ever using anything but a Defender
I just got my otterbox today from radio shack for 40$. Taking off to Vegas in 3 hours I needed something quick. I bought the warranty for .99 for two years.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA Premium App
Umm.... I think you spent .99 more than you should've. Otterbox has lifetime warranty if I'm not mistaken. The clip on mine broke, and I emailed them. Now they're sending me a brand new case. No charge.

I would go with the seidio if i had to pick between the two. I am a welder and the otterbox has absolutely no protection for the speaker or camera. I ordered the trident witch has screens to protect both the camera and the speaker...... I am on my 3rd speaker on my phone, it was poorly protected from the factory and collects anything magnetic really well. It also has more then a peel and stick protection for the screen.

Nice thread to start. I have been wondering the same thing myself. From what I've read, it seems like the soft plastic on the Otterbox is thinner than it used to be. It's similar to the Seidio in that their port covers are now prone to being easily ripped off. The older Otterbox covers seemed to rip off less frequently.
I hate my Seidio Rugged. It's falling apart. I've ordered a Cyclops and will probably try out the Ballistic when it's released.
The Ballistic seems like it will be the toughest case made for Evo, especially since the Kraken will probably not be made.
I have both and prefer the otterbox much more.
CW
i just made this decision myself. Was deciding between the Otterbox Defender, Seidio Innocase Rugged with Holster, and the Ballistic HC (which should be released any day now). After much research and review, I decided on the Seidio, but actually going with the Best Buy version which is called the Platinum brand and its the Defense model. Same thing, but I can buy it tommorow and put it on my phone instead of ordering and having to wait. Plus, if something goes wrong, I can go back in the store and exchange it instead of having to ship it back.
The kickstand on the Defender is defective. Had mine for 3 days before it spontaneously crumbled. This is know issue and big problem.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
My kickstand is just fine.
The kickstand on my Defender broke somehow while the case was in my pocket, hadn't even used it. The holster was an extremely sloppy fit,had to glue some felt pads in it so the phone wouldn't rattle around. Pulled the screen protector off as I was getting the oil spill effect on the screen. I guess you can fix that with baby powder but I don't need two protectors on the phone. After all this plus the 9 day debacle/wait to get the case shipped to me Otterbox waived all charges and freebied me the case. I'd have been POed to have paid more than $10-12 for it.
The Rugged case is ugly compared to the Defender but I think it offers more protection and the holster is much higher quality. The Exoskeleton at least on the earlier versions is the weak point as the corners break off. Seido's CS did approve my replacement request and shipped me a new case within 48 hrs and the skeleton is a slightly different design so I'll see if it holds up better.
I'm looking forward to the Ballistic case.
so Norwester, you think the Rugged is a better case then the Defender?
I also really like the Ballistic, and that was my first choice. I just dont like the way that the back of it looks in the new pics of it since its redesign...looked much better before...that and it IS gonna be big. It being so big didnt bother me at first, but now I'm rethinking it

Phone fits snug in mine, no slack at all. There are a few others with broken kickstands and others that are rough on them have no problem. I dont know what the issue is I dont believe they have any other revisions of the case out yet but if my kickstand does break you can bet your ass Im will be on the horn complaining about it, Not only did we have to wait more than a half of a year but as soon as it comes out there are a bunch of people having issues with it. I haven't had any issue and I got mine for free but this is suppose to be their toughest case that stands up to everything but water and people are reporting it doesnt even hold up to a pocket? Kinda crazy if you ask me but then again I am loving mine so far.
I went with Seidio, didn't know it came with the Innocase Surface too. That was a bonus, really liked my Surface on my Hero. Seems pretty durable I've pulled the case off my phone numerous times and no broken tabs. I really like the fact that the camera is completely covered. My only problem is the screen cover it came with has really bad glare, but that's not a big deal. All in all really pleased so far, I would definitely recommend it.

My Defender kinda sucked due to the faulty kickstand. I bought an Impact for $15 after discounts and I love it.

Can you enlight me about this cases. What is so great about innocases?
Features, quality?
Looks good (judging based off of the Innocase for the Nexus One).
How might this case be better than say a TPU/Epik style case? Just curious.
These are the only cases I know of that you can also use with a holster.when I had it for my nexus there was also a option to upgrade to "rugged"which was perfect for me because I was doing construction.

I second that! I usually use a holster with my phone and this case looks sweet. Otterbox won't be coming out with a defender case for our phone so I think this is perfect! I'm gonna us this for the daily and the TPU case when I need to go light
Nice. This is the kind of case I was looking for. It reminds me a bit of the Agent 18 cases for the iPhone (but slightly higher quality, it looks like).
Has anyone used these cases before on other phones? It looks like it has some rubberized material on the outside? Does it attract lint and dust? The official Gel case (which has now become slightly stretched and useless) continues to pick up every annoying piece of debris. I've given up and gone bare until something better (like this case) comes along.
Do a search for "innocase surface" on YouTube and you'll see a lot of reviews. They describe a slightly rubberized feel to the case, but apparently it isn't tacky and doesn't attract dust or lint.
Yes it is 2 pieces and it slides together. Its had that nice slightly rubberized feel to it but not too muck to their point it grips too much

Sold, sold, sold. I want this thing!
Do they typically sell these at T-Mo corporate stores? Or do you guys just get them online usually?
Great holster
I'm a big fan of the Seidio holsters. I've had one for my last few Blackberries. I tried several different holsters but I was traveling a lot and working in ceilings and not one of them lasted more than a month. The clip would inevitably break off. It happened once and I didn't notice until later. I had to spend over an hour looking for my phone that was on vibrate!
I chose the Seidio because it looked rugged. It never failed no matter how much I abused it. Now that I have an MT4G I'm really looking forward to getting one of their holsters for it. I've never used the Innocase, but I hightly recommend the holster. It's built very tough without looking like it. I don't see they have one listed yet for use without the case, but I'm hoping they'll make one.

Really, I bought a Otterbox Commuter for my Captivate and hated it and returned it the next day. The hard plastic looked cheap and the rubber was a lint magnet. I don't have experience with Seido cases but I bought a holster for my wife's iPhone4 and it's great.
Had an Innocase on my BB 8900 and It was good for the most part. It was one of the slide up ones. But It DID scratch the chrome part on the phone.
I did drop it multiple times on the floor and nothing happened the phone. BUT, one day it dropped about 3 feet down to concrete and the case cracked and wouldn't hold the phone well like it did before.
IT did fall on concrete almost that high before and nothing until that one day.
Also sliding the case off a couple of times messed up its sturdiness. Sturdiness as in, when I'd slide it up it stay on. after a while it wouldn't stay on well.
On my N1 I bought an Otterbox case and it was the best case I had. Even though it attracted lint and was hard to take off sometimes, I wouldn't buy any other case !
EDIT: got a battery from them for my N1. The thickness made me get rid of it. Come to find out the stock battery lasted way longer.
I thought the Innocase II is the one that was 2 pcs and snaps together.

Well I just ordered the Otterbox Defender Series for my EVO on amazon and I wanted to hear some some toughs. I know about the kickstand problem it has but that does not really bother me. I know the case is huge but that doesn't bother me either since the phone is huge by itself. So forum what are your thoughts on it?
How doe it feel? Does it really protect the phone? Any problems you have had?
I had one....the beltclip kept breaking...even though they replaced it for free it was rather annoying....so i bought a ballistic....had no issues yet

My honest thoughts? I'm sorry that you wasted $50. It is one of the worst quality cases that I have ever come across.
I liked the Otterbox.......dropped my phone from 4 feet onto my ceramic floor with no damage to the phone; though the holster and kickstand are horrible. But now I have the Ballistic HC.
I have 2 of them, one still in the box. I've never used either of them, I put one on my phone to see how it looked once and took it off and put my commuter back on. They do feel like they would protect the phone quite well but they just feel a bit cheaply made for the price they charge. For me, the commuter is the perfect case, I just wish they sold a holster/belt clip for it. I have heard the Sedio holster for the Active works with it, I just have a hard time paying $30 for just a holster.

It is, there's clear plastic (same material the screen protector is made of) over the camera lens and the LED flash
I have one and use it when im at work, I like it alot the camera lenses and flash are protected and the screen is protected at well. I had a similer case before with no screen protector but the rubber wore through and eventually the clip broke. The otterbox makes the phone considerably more bulky but I sincerely feel like I could drop kick the phone and it would be perfect so the bulk dosent really bother me. Its all about what you need the protection for everyones needs are different

Well from what you guys have said it seams like its an okay case but its horrible compared to the ballistic. I currently don't have a case on my phone so at least he otterbox will protect it. Now what are the problems with the holster and belt clip? Does the belt clip break easily or what?
I can't personally speak for this case, but I have the commuter case and love it. easy to pull the case on and off but protects it well from the drops and what not it encounters on a daily basis at work. I also can't speak for the ballistic either, but i'll take a look at it now that you guys have mentioned it
The case does live up to the defender series name, theres only 2 issues I have with the case, the kickstand will brake for sure no if's our but's, and the silicone layer has to be constantly adjusted specially after charging. I don't know of any issues with the holster, I just see people complaining on how bulky it is. But that is preference, I like the holster and it seems very well built.

I had one, def was not too impressed especially how the kickstand had cracks the day after i bought it. Then there were cracks all around the front screen protector. So, i did a warranty claim got a new one and sold it. Picked up a cyclops and very happy with it. I am switching up to the Kraken tho because at my work we get em for $20 so i figured why not. I haven't had personal experience with the Ballistics case yet but if the kraken fails me i may try it.
I've never owned the Defender case for the Evo, but I did have one on an iPhone 3gs. That was a solid case, but the way it was held into the holster wasn't very reassuring. From what I've seen, the Defender for the Evo seems to have a similar problem. It's just not very secure in the holster.
I DO however currently own a Ballistic case, and WOW is it ever solid. It's also VERY securely held in the holster. The biggest downside is that it's very squared off, very bulky, and a little awkward to hold. That's why I put it in the case at work, but take it back out when I'm at home most of the time.
Defender cases are quite a bit more ergonomic, but that doesn't matter for crap if it's gonna fall out of the holster, IMO.

If you want SERIOUS protection, the Ballistic HC is the only way to go. I ordered mine the day they released them and haven't even thought about using anything else since. Some people don't like how bulky it is, but nothing else even comes close to the level of protection you get with the Ballistic.

i started having issues with my ballistic case a few months ago. The rubber border next to the power button became detached, and I received a replacement for the front that was a little different in design. The rubber on it started peeling as well and the proximity sensor doesn't pick up, so it is impossible for my screen to turn on while in a call (hitting the power button in a call doesn't work either)
I'm looking into an alternative, and possibly one to hold an extended battery case as well.
I use the Otter commuter case, modified to fit with my extended battery. Dropped it pretty hard twice on concrete, phone came out just fine. Only issue I have with the case is the cover for the HDMI and Micro usb ports. Doesn't stay closed.
I know you didn't ask about an extended battery, but I'm just going to put in my .02c for the trident case with the extended 2000MaH battery:
http://www.tridentcase.com/product_5_117.html
It has exchangable rubber bumpers that you can purchase separately, AND it has a built in screen protector. i've had mine for months now, dropped the device 2x and absolutely NO damage.
Wonderful case for the price and an extended battery that really didn't add that much thickness.
Otterbox Commuter = Awesome
I HIGHLY recommend the Otterbox Commuter series case. I've had it for almost a year now, and it is amazing. I've been pretty rough with my phone, but it has saved it from any sort of damage. It provides fantastic protection and feels solid and strong in my hands, but at the same time it doesn't make the phone seem bulky and has a great very smooth, sleek, thin feel to it. Definitely the best of both worlds in terms of balancing strong protection with sleek good looks.
Another thing I love about Otterbox is their amazing customer service and 1-year no-questions-asked warranty guarantee. I recently broke the case itself somehow (the phone stayed completely protected though) so I emailed their warranty services and told them, and they simply asked for my shipping address and sent me a new case in under a week! They didn't even ask for a copy of the receipt or pictures of the broken case. It was the fastest, easiest warranty claim I've ever had.
If you do go for an Otterbox, definitely buy it off eBay and not retail. You'll save yourself a good $20-25. It's about $12 new on eBay. I'd post a link, but I'm still a noob
Otterbox is definitely the way to go. I am unaware of what solutions they have available for extended batteries but it may be worth while to look into.

I too have to throw in a full reccomendation for the Otterbox Commuter.
Fits like a glove, and keeps the phone stylishly protected. It looks great, and has saved my phone from 4 drops I've made (one which I thought the case couldn't have saved it from, but nevertheless it did.)
I like the silicone ones. easy to deal with.

I had the otterbox impact case. It is way too loose, doesnt fit snug on the phone. Over time gets even bigger almost a quarter inch too long vertically than the phone. Dissapointing.
If you really want protection I recomend the ballistic case. It's rugged and very durable. I got mine on Amazon for about 30 bucks after shipping

Oh wow that's like putting your phone in a bullet proof box inside a bomb cover lol I will look into one of those after my paycheck..
So my last phone got damanged due to my job. So I NEED to get a good case and screen protector for this one, its just too nice. I was thinking of going to best buy or the t-mobile store to get the screen and ordering a ballistic case... not too sure though, I would hate having trouble taking in and out of my pocket...

I called so many best buys around me and they told me they stopped carrying Tmobile products. Never looked online hah.
However, one best buy mobile at a mall next to my house was willing to price match magenta day.that's how I got this phone for 50$ flat out with no monthly $20 additional and on classic plan.

THe ballistic case is probably best, I have one and its a bit clunky but its good. Theres no official otterbox for this phone either.

While there is no official otterbox, there is one that fits perfectly with one minor modification

D30 case and zagg is what I have. Dropped my phone twice from about 4-5 feet getting off my truck onto pavement and not a single scratch anywhere and its Slim and lightweight. Of course there is that minor issue with the button pressing.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?
Trident Aegis case with SGP Ultra Crystal screen protector is the best combo. The screen protector is easy to apply and you wouldn't notice its even on. The Aegis is one of the best with good protection and great quality materials with options to choose different colors. Ballistic is good as well with a extra bulk for extra protection especially from drops.
Ghost Armor and the Ballistics case.Thats what I use,and it fits right in a Large genuine imitation leather belt clip case I bought from a gas station.
I'd have to say that the D3o case is probably the best cell phone case I've used. The lining of the case is made out of a very protective polymer named after the case, D3o. It's used for military, medial and sports applications.
I was skeptical about the $25 price tag at t-mobile but I was more than pleased when I purchased it. I've dropped the phone on concrete, cement, etc without batting an eye. The material of the case is breathable and dissipates heat very well. Easy to hold with different color options.
Needless to say, the main thing about the case is the shock absorption. Nothing I've ever seen before. Not the best link but here's a demo of what the lining is made out of. You can get it at a t-mobile branch if not, online. As the previous post about D3o mentioned, the buttons are a bit tough to push in at first. I heard that after a while, they become more pliable but I used the "exacto-knife" trick and cut slits (completely invisible) on the top and bottom of the buttons. This makes them a lot easier to manage.

As mentioned above, I'd go with a Ballistic case or the Trident case. I have two D30 cases but stopped using them since my friend's SG2 developed a crack while using that case. They're also very tough to get off without feeling that you're breaking your phone.
I got the trident Aegis.
Will be here soon. The Ballistic case, is nice, but a bit too bulky IMO. And green is my favorite color ^^
Thanks for the screen recommendation. Will look into it.
