Hi folks, I have a problem with my Verizon Xperia Play. I have installed Launcher Pro on it (big mistake) and set it as the default launcher.
Yesterday I tried to change the wallpaper using an app from the Market. When I pressed Save to save the new wallpaper, I then pressed home to get to the home screen, then tried to enter the camera app. That's it. That completely screwed up my phone. Now I cannot get into the Launcher Pro home screen at all. Because of that, I cannot get into the settings to clear the cache on the program. When I boot up I get the standard lock/unlock screen. The wallpaper is black. None of the unlock options work (they don't move at all). If I mash the screen enough times sometimes I get a force-close option on Launcher Pro. Clicking it does nothing (it just restarts Launcher Pro).
If I connect it to my PC I get the standard SD card message. I can mount the card but cannot see it in Windows Explorer. I also cannot drop the notifications bar (whether connected to the PC or not). Is there any way that I can clear the Launcher Pro cache from Windows? I also don't think that I have USB debugging enabled to use the SDK to uninstall the piece of crap program. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Anna
If you can't do anything, as a last resort you could bring up the energency dialer (from lockscreen) and type in a factory reset code

Cannot enter dialer from lock screen.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I cannot do anything from the lock screen. My only options are press the power button (makes the screen go black), press the home button (makes the screen go black) and press the volume control (increases/decreases the volume but nothing appears on the screen). The other buttons do nothing. The screen fades to black after 30 seconds anyway due to the timeout setting on my phone.

Methinks thou might need this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350875
It's a restoration package for your phone that you apply with the Flashtool program. It will wipe your data, though.
If you don't want to resort to it, you can try your luck using ADB.
Thanks Logseman, I hope it doesn't come to that, I don't want to have to reinstall everything. After testing some more last night, I found that I could drop the notifications bar when connected to the PC. I can also mount the SD card and view the files within it. When I choose any of the notifications, the app that sent the notification will not open (eventually Android will offer to force-close the app). Is there any combination of button presses that will allow me to load an alternative home screen. Or reset the phone somehow? Can I put the phone in USB debugging mode over WIFI or USB, without using the phone itself? Or is all lost..
Anna
You can use adb to push the stock launcher app to /system/app/ then correct its permissions. Upon reboot, it should work. Or even use 'adb install' to install a different non-system launcher if you can get the apk for it
Hi Jacklebott, I did some testing yesterday with Android Injector, and I'm fairly certain that I do not have USB debugging switched on. I tried using it to install a new launcher program (ADW) and it said that USB debugging was not switched on. I tried it with a different Android phone (Orange San Francisco), where I switched on USB debugging on the phone, and it worked first time, so I think that Android Injector is setup correctly.
So, that leaves the following questions?
Can I switch on USB debugging mode from my PC (via WIFI or USB cable)?
Can I have remote access to the phone without having any access to the phone to install companion apps?
Can I root/install a new firmware without having USB debugging switched on?
Thanks for all your help friends, I appreciate it!
Anna
You can't have remote access to the phone without companion apps. And certainly you can't access debug mode from out of the phone, it would be a security flaw. However, you can (actually you must) switch off the phone to install a new firmware with Flashtool.
Thanks, can I install new firmware with Flashtool without having access to the phone? I don't think that I have USB debugging switched on
Anna
What do you mean you don't have access to the phone?
I mean that I cannot access any options on the phone at all, because it is both frozen on the lock screen, and I do not have USB debugging switched on
The only thing that I can do with it is change the volume, access the SD card, and occasionally drop the notification bar (if I mash the screen enough times).
Anna
Then just charge it to full capacity, switch it off, use Flashtool (look up my super compilation for a how-to) and flash the phone wiping data and all.
I'm reluctant to use Flashtool because I have a Verizon CDMA Play and I would have to pay to get it unlocked. In the meantime, how about using the Side Load Wonder machine? Would that work? Or does it just do the same thing as Android Injector? Also, I have been reading that apps should install over WIFI when downloaded from the Market. If all was correct, I should be able to log into the Market webpage from the PC, choose an app, have it download to my phone, and install. Is that correct? Would I have to press OK to install it? I tried it with my Orange San Francisco and the new app never showed up (it too is WIFI only - no 3G data).
Thanks for all your help!

Do you have a locked bootloader? And yes you can use flashtool, usb debugging is not needed as device is connected in flash mode.

Apps downloaded on a pc usually download automatically for me, no need to press anything on the phone
Sent from my GT-I5500 using Tapatalk
You don't need an unlocked bootloader to use flashtool. It's only needed to use fastboot.
I think you're only hope is to start fresh by reinstalling the firmware with flashtool. You don't even need root to do that, it's all done on the PC end.
Fixed!!
Fixed now!! What I had to do was to run SE Update rather than PC Connect to update the phone, the difference being that SE Update is run when the phone is initially switched off, while PC Connect is run when the phone is switched on (and therefore locked due to the frozen unlock screen). SE Update avoided the frozen lockscreen and updated successsfully! Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it, 10 gold stars for all of you!
Best wishes,
Anna
All is well that ends well ^^ enjoy your Play!
Hallo,
just now I was trying to open an app on my DHD but it kept force closing so I decided to Normaly restart it. When I did that it went to the Welcome Logo then got stuck and kept on turning on and Off.
Then I removed the battery and tried again. This time the Bootscreen appeared (I was glad since I could recover a backup version of the RAM) but to my amazement I couldn't navigate through the options. Even the power button didn't work. I tried several times but with the same results.
I was wondering is there a way to restore my mobile from my laptop (USB Debugging?) now after I reached this state?!
How could I solve this?
Any help would be appreciated
UPDATE: I noticed before the Bootscreen loads, there appears some messages quickly before they disappear. I kept on turning my phone on and off to see what they said eventually I came out with this
P98DIAG.ZIP

Can you navigate any menus? If you can't you probably have a volume key hardware issue. If you can, i would just put a p98diag.zip on the root and reflash (use the rooted one).
Sounds like you are booting into bootloader. You need recovery. Pull the battery, then reinsert and hold volume down + hit power. If that doesn't work if you have adb set up on computer, plug it in to computer and use adb reboot recovery.

I guess that you have a PD98IMG.zip on sd card.
Remove it or everytime you reboot in bootloader it will ask you to update in a never ending story. Probably this is why all other commands are not working except reboot.
Then reboot bootloader and go to recovery.
No I can't navigate (the weird thing is the power button also dosen't respond) it's like it freezes as soon as it turns on... Could you give me the PD98IMG.zip in a separate link?
I tried reinst the battery while holding the volume + but it didn't work. It vibrated 4 times while the charge light turned green but that was it. It stayed green and the screen was off...
I've always had the volume keys issue even before it went crazy (they do not always respond to my press) but I just installed 3rd party apps as a workaround.
I couldn't find the p98diag.zip anywhere on the SD card (could you give me the path for it?)
I will try to reboot it through my laptop but could someone give me the commands I should write? I'm not that experienced in that field.
Btw I left it for a while before I turned it on again, it went into Safe Mode (no apps no nothing) then I turned it off and after several tries it finally turned on in the normal mode and was almost stable until I restarted it and it went to point 0 again and now I'm stuck with the bootscreen :S
Thanks for your help
Do you have adb set up on your computer? If so then connect phone to laptop. Open command prompt type "adb remount" then "adb reboot recovery"

while looking through the files I used to root my phone when I bought it I found the p98diag.zip. I copied it to my SD Card and wanted to install it. It found it but then it said
Parsing...[SD ZIP]
[1] BOOTLOADER
[2] BOOT
....
but it's been like that for 2 hours now. I tried reinst the battery and pluging in the mobile to my laptop but it didn't recognize it. (I tried the adb and it gave me Device not found" error!
Is it normal for the phone to take long to parse the zip file? what should I do now?

You shouldn't have installed pd98diag. I would suggest either trying to run the ruu to get back to stock, or find the stock rom in pd98img.zip form and place on root of sdcard. Then reroot and start over.
Edit: if you find the stock rooted in pd98img.zip form that should work too and you won't have to reroot.
Edit 2: be sure to remove the pd98diag.zip from your sd card.

Good advice! I still have all the files I used to root (even the RUU)
And you're right I shouldn't have flashed the old pd98img because now my laptop can't recognize my mobile and I can't debug it from the command line (it says Device not found)
Can I still be able to root the img without using my phone? I used this guide to root my phone (http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-downgrade-htc-desire-hd-to-root-it-after-ota-update/)
Where can I find the rooted img? and will it be possible for me to upload it here so that someone could root it for me on his device and give it to me rooted?
To boot into recovery
Hold down volume - button (not +) while pressing power button.
Let go of power button but continue pressing down on volume -.
Hey presto ... recovery.
It's a very easy mistake to make, I did it myself a few times when I first got into rooting and flashing ROM's.
lol!
no mate I wish it was like that.

Hi guys,
After trying to root my phone by using the rollback to 2.1 method (mt3srooter and superoneclick), my phone is stuck.
To elaborate, my phone is rolled back to 2.1 but I cannot for the life of me get it back to the 2.2.1 stock rom. I tried to do a factory reset and soft reset it but it either
1. Starts up showing an exclamation point inside of a triangle in front of a phone, after pressing power and the volume up button, I clear the cache, factory reset it and initiate system reboot which is when the phone does start up but vibrates 5 times while lighting up the notification light.
or 2. Boots regularly to 2.1 but is unstable and shuts off occasionally vibrating 5 times again
During the rooting process in mt3srooter I didn't turn on the wi-fi (due to the fact that I did not transfer the zip files beforehand and panicked) as instructed which I think caused the problem.
I already flashed esprimg but it's the same.
Also, my phone does not recognize that there is an SD card inside (I used two different microSD cards with no avail and formatted them). It does not register on my computer as a device it's just labled as "Unkown device" and the driver software fails to install.
Is there any way to get my phone back to the way it was?
Any help is appreciated!
Edit: The phone has no warranty, I bought it from a 3rd party unlocked.

If your phone can still access it's normal recovery you can try to use adb tools to flash twrp recovery to the phone so that you can mount the internal memory as a usb device and save your data , after that i would recomend you use b510 it's quite stable and the battery life is much better furthermore the gps then works(still very crappy lock but it works) so the steps for you would be access normal recovery by holding pwr+vol up+ vol down and waiting till it boots recovery>then dl twrp recovery>use adb tools to flash twrp recovery>then load recovery again same proc as b4>then goto settings usb mount/storage or something related and make sure to choose internal memory as the one to load>copy your data off the phone>Follow instruction on forum for hw to install b510(my personal fav),b512,b513 and follow those instructions carefully, and to root your phone rather try other tools like motochopper, doomlord exploit, root exploit, root genius or so? can't quite remember which one i used last, it always works with a different one (dont know why).
Hope that helps.
Thanx a lot folks!! i was a bit freakedout as it was my first time. (Not to mention that i am a total noob) but its all under control now. Rooted my p6 without using computer (with root master.apk)
