Caller is picture resolution - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

When someone calls me or even when I place a call....why is it that the pix resolution looks crappy. How can I get to look better. I'm using pictures I take from my phone and its 8 megapixel. Is there a solution for this. Thanks in advance.

I would like to know this too!

It has to do with having your contacts synced through Google. Once you set the picture and it syncs for some reason it lowers the picture resolution. If you turn contact sync off and reset the picture to the contact it will stay in good quality. Why it lowers the resolution I have no idea.

Because it uploads the picture to Google, which converts it to a very small size, so if you get a new phone, Rom, whatever and you sun your contacts it won't take forever to download all the pics, so if sync is on your using googles pic that was uploaded to the server. Another way around this without turning sync off is to go into the people app, then pic the contact, then change it from google, to phone, of course, if your phone breaks any contacts you have set to phone that have never been set to Google will not be there when you get your new phone, but, there is a way around that also, you can export your contact to a file on your SD card, so as long as your SD card is ok, you can then import them from that to your new phone. To be extra safe, you can copy that backup file from your SD card to your computer so if a tractor runs over your phone and even destroys your card, you'll still have a backup, hide you've enjoyed readin this lengthy answer as much as I have writing it, I'm REALLY bored...

[Q] Where are contact photos located?

I need to backup these photos because I'm going to wipe my phone. These photos are of higher resolution than what would be synced to my phone through GMail.

I always assumed the contact pictures were not on the phone and were synced with Gmail. My Google Voice does not show contact pictures whenever there is a data/sync issue.
If you have taken the pictures with your camera, they should be in sdcard/dcim and if you have downloaded them in the sdcard/download, but that you probably knew already.
To be precise, I was wondering where Google stores the specific pictures shown when you use the People app. I do have the uncropped photos but it would be nice if I could take the cropped version and overwrite the low quality pics Google sync from GMail.
I believe with ics it's a system app called "contacts storage" that you can back up with titanium or the like.I can't confirm but that is my guess. Gl!

Only problem with backing things like this up is it can cause issues if the system app version gets updated by asop. I wish android would sync all these kinds of things in the cloud. having to "remerge" all my contacts every wipe is annoying as well.

[Q] Different camera folders in gallery

Anyone else get pics taken from their camera going to 2 different folders? Does it have anything to do with the orientation of the phone when you take the picture? That's the only thing I can think of. I usually auto upload my pics to google+ about once a week so I wonder if I adjust the stock camera settings in any way at all, that they go to a different folder? I don't really ever adjust them much as far as I can remember, I don't really use instagram that much but I would remember the pics I took with that. I should probably look and see if they are using different formats from the file names and narrow it down some more. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?
Most probable reason is that some were saved on the internal SD and some were saved on the external SD. Thats the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

As stated, it's when the pics are saved to memory card or internal memory.
Burst shot, best shot as example, gets saved to faster internal memory.
So short answer is its the camera shooting mode.

I never use burst shot. Which is why I wonder if it's caused by ANY change in the camera settings, shooting mode, scene mode, white balance. It's actually kind of annoying. I have 2 download gallery folders also.

The only time I've heard of that happening is if you used your phone without any SD card. Then it would automatically save to the imternal, hence the double folders.

[Q] contact photo after update

I recently updated to the latest firmware, but I flashed the ROM posted in the development section. I had set pictures for a couple of my contacts, and after updating my phone and letting Google sync my contacts back onto my phone I noticed that the pictures will not stretch to fix the area for pics when making a call.
I should say that some pics are stretched. But some aren't. None of the photos that are used to set the contact pic is stored on the phone.
Google doesn't save it in hd when you sync.

So how can I get the phone to display the pic in HD?
If it's only a couple of contacts then you can do what I do and make a folder on your SD card with the pictures of the contacts you want and then set them again every time you go to a new ROM. Get the pictures however you got them in the first place, or maybe go on their facebook or something. Depending on how many you want to set, it should only take a few minutes.
If you use fb you can get hax sync and it will use hd pics and you can back it up to your Google contacts

Everytime you flash a new rom this will happen. I used to just go one by one reassigning pics, until I found this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jgarrison.hdcontacts
Just assign pics using the app and after you assign all the pics go into the settings and do a backup. After that when ever you flash a rom juat restore the pics using the app.

[Q] Incoming/outgoing calls - Full screen picture

Hello all. I'm using an M919 still running on the stock 4.2.2. I was wondering if there was a way to have the picture for the contact for incoming and outgoing calls to display at full screen like the image that I attached. On calls, the picture of the contact is not at full screen. Is there a way to change this? Again, I'm running stock 4.2.2 still.
Have you replaced the contact images? The way I do it is I back up all my contact images and then restore them whenever I change ROMs or phones.. Google saves contact images very poorly and rescaled, that's why they don't show full screen when they are restored from your account

That worked! Thanks. Is there an easier way to upscale the default pictures without having to set new photos for each of my contacts? It looks like by default, the contacts is using facebook profile pictures.
You can use an app that will sync your contacts picture to Facebook, they didn't work very well last time I used them, but that was a while back, might be better now

There's also an app called Full SCreen Caller ID.
It does exactly what it sounds like. It makes you caller ID the FULL screen. Every pixel. Not just the part above the dialer.
Workrs like a charm. No root required. There's a free version you can use to try it out and see if it's for you.

There are all kinds of options as well for how to answer the phone and how the contact info looks. There are about 10 similar apps. This is the one that I've enjoyed the most. But it's all a matter of opinion.

[Q] Slow Camera Gallery

Anyone else seeing a really long lag when trying to load the gallery from the stock camera app? Checking a shot takes way too long; easily 5-6 seconds. It's driving me a bit nuts. And yes, I could use a different camera app, but the stock on is the camera it loads from the lockscreen, which I actually do a lot. Anyone else experiencing this, or possibly know how to fix it?

I experience the same.. and I don't have a resolution.
I just figured it was software properly releasing the hardware to something.. drivers letting go of whatever they hardware they were holding on to.

This is a great app, but is there a way to make this the default gallery? Can't figure how to, the normal gallery still loads from the camera app (painfully slow) and i haven't seen an option to change, thanks.

You are correct. I don't think you can make it the default gallery for the camera app sadly.
Love QuickPic- been using it since Note 2. I'm not seeing any lag though. I've got the pics going to the external sd card and it's a fast card- maybe card read/write speed matters here.
Another thought is maybe there's a file that's corrupted in the folder where the pics are.
I have found that if you have the option set to view picture or video after each shot it's almost instant, and the gallery loads very quick for me this way.

That kind of works, but I don't want to have to review each picture and then go back to the camera each time. I have to believe that Samsung is working on this, as this is a huge consumer-facing issue, though I haven't heard much talk about it.
Have you tried QuickPic out? I know it doesn't load from the lockscreen but at least that will tell you if it's an issue with that app specifically. I was also thinking it might be card-related-- is your micro sd card a fast one?
Turning off online photo locations and using .nomedia files to stop the gallery from scanning unwanted folders helps too.

I have found when changing the storage location to internal, rather than external, then snap a picture so that it will be the most recent, it loads up quicker

Well yes...because it doesn't have to scan your external SD card. Obviously anything saved to the internal will load faster.
