Cannot connect to wifi tether - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

My epic 4g touch is rooted, and I have both wifi tether and barnacle on the phone. I've been trying to connect my Asus G50 to it for a day and a half now with no success. I can see the network but cannot join. What has been even more frustrating is that I have been able to fully connect with other computers. So I know it's something with my laptop, but I cant figure out what, I've reinstalled the drivers, I've even uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless device. (which sucks because I know I just lost all my other wifi info's).
I'm really not sure what the next step here is and I could really use some help.

anyone have any ideas?

Wifi tether is crap.... Can someone please hack sprint hotspot app like on epic og?

You are doing better than me. If I enable security it doesn't even show on my laptop and if I disable it, it shows but my computer never can connect. I tried to enable it for BT tethering instead but had no luck there either.

What version are you using?
I can connect but I can't browse the internet. MS downloads updates just fine. I can ping www.google.com from cmd just fine, but I CANNOT browse the internet with IE, firefox, or Chrome.....wtf?

I tried this version http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
I also tried the version on android market
EDIT - I noticed a 5002 in my event viewer. Even though I've never had a problem connecting to a wireless device before I updated my network driver on my laptop and I'm connected NOW!!! I still can't enable security but at least I have a connection!

Thats the same version I have. Are you using your phones 4g or 3g connection for the internet? I didn't even bother with 3g because its so frustratingly slow.

I'm using 3G because my 4G is even slower than 3G where I am in Culver City - I get about 400k with 3G.

What is the security set at on the phone.... Wap.... Then check the setup for laptop.... Make sure they match....
We now return you to your regularly scheduled program...

I don't think you can have security enabled on the phone - it won't show up as a choice for wifi on your laptop.

Any progress here?
Both versions of wifi tether as well as Barnacle don't even show up as an available network on my Galaxy tab (no security set)

you need a new wpa supplicant file with permissions properly set. It works every time. Google wpa supplicant.

plz help with 4g tethering

Hello,
I have the epic 4g touch rooted with starburst rom. I installed android wifi tether app and I am able to connect to the wifi from laptop, but i cant actually browse to any websites. I can ping from cmd prompt to sites. When I use sprint hotspot everything works fine. Also is there an app that will let me tether at 4g speed?

3rd party tethering apps (ie, wifi tether, usb EasyTether, bluetooth tether) are not subjected to the 5GB Hot Spot Sprint limitation. The data used by these apps are seen as "phone data" which is unlimited, whereas Hot Spot data is limited to 5GB with overage charges/fees.
Am I right?
Plus... it's bad enough having the phone run on 4G now you want it to act like a wireless router transmitting over wifi to tether a laptop. HOT HOT HOT
I think 4G tethering is most efficient and "coolest" in temperature over USB Tethering. If you must tether wirelessly, then Bluetooth is probably better than wifi. Not as big of a battery drain.

hey so i dont have bluetooth on my laptop.. i just use it at work on my laptop to stream music, netflix etc. so which thrid party app would be recommended for 4g. I get great 4g signal at my office. Also i get really really crappy speed with usb tethering like 069 dwn and .65 up
what version of wifi tether are you using?
I'm using v3-beta-6. I can connect using 4g, browsing websites and such. But for some reason, the down steam speeds are capped at ~0.7Mbs when I run a speed test. On my phone, I get 10Mbs down. I know its using 4g because the ping time is much lower and my upload stream is 1.5Mbs.
On 3g, i'm only getting .85 Mbs down and 0.5Mbs up

Easytether app is what I use to tether over uab. works amazingly well with no slow down. I also use wifi tether beta 6 but not very often because it gets hot. Speeds are super fast for me over 4G USB tethering, like 8-10mbps.

I am a little confused because I see the link posted for the 4g hotspot fix which has been out for quite some time now. Also as far as it causing issues with Sprint you can rest assure if that was the case it would be posted all over this community. I am not sure why your phone is not working properly with the wifi tethers but I can assure you that Sprint Hotspot on our phone works quite lovely. Also the data usage restrictions do not apply for phones but for actual Hotspot devices. Please go to the link listed above flash the hotspot mod and enjoy life..... It works I am on it right now....

I'm not sure what hot spot thread you were in but the hot spot hack works on 3g and 4g. And it reads now with 4g not help with 4g... I've used it on both ek02 and el29 with no issues. I hardly ever use sprints crappy 3g and I'm tethering fine. Also take into consideration the hot spot is infrastructure and can be access by more than just computers unlike the tether apps on the market which all are ad hoc...

Meant to edit my 1st post and I quoted myself.. Wow I must be smoking some good ish!!!
I have Calk 2.8.1 which supports sprint 4g hotspot. But in reality, I can never get download speed past the 3g speed. Upload is fast but download seems to be capped to 3g speed a confirmed by other users. EasyTether blows them all away with 4g speed of 8-10 Mbps. But of course it is not wireless and does not support infra structure mode.
Here's what I did to get full 4g speed while tethering via wifi..
Go to market and install filter proxy..
Open application, enable it and remember port number (Default is 8000)
Start wifi tethering..
Setup proxy in your browser, point it to your phone's ip address and port 8000 (if you use default)
Do this for http, https and ftp..
And you are all set.. Test your speed.

I can't seem to find the exact app. Will this work with Sprint Hotspot WIFI tethering or just the 4G Android Wifi Tether.
I just tested Android WifiTether 3.1beta 6 and it seems to pass the full 4g speed to connected device. I am losing 10% or less in 5 tests.

Can't seem to get wifi tether working...

Phone: Samsung Epic 4G Touch
v2.3.6 EL29 from HERE
I tried loading WIFI Tether from this website and no matter what version I load on the phone I can't get my computer to pick up the SSID and connect. I know it's not my computer since it running off WIFI Usb card and I am able to connect it to my neighbors WIFI as well.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
I use that one on ics and have to select galaxy nexus cdma as my phone for it to work. Also foxfi works well on el29 and does not even require root.

I have the same problem when trying to use wifi tether, my device cannot see the ssid when it is on. I tried several versions with no success.
Installed FoxFi and that works great, but I would still like to get WT to work to see which one is better on my battery.
I am still on a GB rom.

Yeah, I too use Foxfi, it doesn't even require root (although I'm rooted anyway). It works very nicely on Sprint, and allows you to create a mobile hotspot for other devices to connect to wirelessly. It also allows you to use WPA. It is available here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi&hl=en

Is anyone able to get android-wifi-tether to work on LG2?

I just rooted (teamepic cwm+root.zip) and installed the android wifi tether. Wifi tether is not working. I went to the QBKing thread in development, and see that others are having similar wifi tether problems. Does anyone have wifi tether working on an LG2 release? After my laptop connects to the tether, I can't actually get out to the internet. It's like the NAT is not working. checking the IP stack on my laptop, I am getting the right ip address, gatway, etc assigned. Wifi tether shows the laptop connected. But I can't do anything.
I followed the QBKING video step by step (except using a different password for encryption). I have the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (LTE/CDMA) profile selected. I've tried some others in desperation, but none are working.
I think I'll try uninstall/reinstall of wifi tether, or maybe just use foxfi now that i am rooted.
go to settings of the wifi tether app if you havent already and set it to enable the security settings so that youll need a password on any device you enable to use your phones internet signal and that should work because i was having that problem with the wifi tether app on my evo 3d and when i enabled security protection that allowed additional devices to connect to the internet. on my galaxy s3 i havent had any problems like that cause i intiially started with this method and ive been up and running just fine and im in houston so it seems the 4g lte is up and running here cause my phone shows 4g at the top for signal and my pages load up on the phones web searches faster than when its connected to my uverse wireless modem. hope this helps you man.

Has anyone had a chance to try this? Did it fix the intermittent connection problems? I am going to try it later, because wifi tether is still not working for me (LG8) using Galaxy Nexus CDMA/LTE and with the access control disabled. I am just curious to see if anyone has this working as using the GSM profile is counter-intuitive for Sprint.

I tried it and the wifi tether still doesn't work. Half the time I start it, it requests Superuser and "starts" but there is no SSID being broadcast and I don't think the wifi radio is actually turned on. Every once in a while, it will broadcast the SSID, and I can connect but the up/down data stay at 0.00kb. Other times, I can connect, and I see the up/down data slowly incrementing, but I can't actually get out to the internet (or FTP, or telnet or....).
I guess I'm just fooked until foxfi or android wifi tether for root actually release a specifically-supported SGS3 version of their apps.
My issues were i could see the ap but not fully connect or allow internet access. Make sure your using access control it will not work with out it. Also make sure you have routing fix checked and use auto not ad hoc.

*edit* I'm starting to wonder if this is an LTE-related thing. After a bit of testing, it seems like the tether works ok if I am on a 3G connection, but when I'm on LTE is when it won't work.

Bluetooth tethering, requires hotspot?

I was playing around with settings tonight and discovered Settings -> More Settings (under Data) -> tethering. Checked it, paired my phone and my Win7 PC, initiated an "access point" connection from the PC, and suddenly I was browsing while using my phone as an access point. Granted it was 3G speeds, but it did work.
Does this work for me because I have mobile hotspot, or is this a feature that shouldn't be working, or does it work for everyone? I'm not rooted, using the latest software update (with multiview). I can't even remember far enough back to when a carrier would have ever simply allowed bluetooth tethering, not even Sprint. It's a nice feature to have since WiFi radios usually wear batteries down faster.

Interesting, thanks. I'm still surprised Sprint would allow this considering they offer unlimited data.
That's weird. I just tried this and I got an error 67, registration failed. Maybe they "fixed" it in the software update.

Are using a Galaxy Note 2 on Sprint? Your image tag says you're on AT&T.
Sprint has unlimited data on the phone data only. They have separate plans for hotspots.
2GB @ $19.99
6GB @ $49.99

I wasn't talking about hotspot. I was talking about Bluetooth tethering, and asking if it requires hotspot to work, because with unlimited data you could tether with bluetooth and theoretically have unlimited internet on your PC through your phone.
Can you tether via wifi? There is a wifi tethering app. You can find on xda or PM me and I will email it to you or post a dropbox link.

My question has nothing to do with WiFi tethering.

[Q] mobile hotspot not working

I live in Jamaica (I'm using a T999 here) and my network allows me to tether free. The problem is when I try to turn on tethering and mobile hotspot it just turns itself off without even trying to connect. When I had my BlackBerry, I would just enter the apn settings and I was good from there. Do I need to get a app just to tehter?
You may try WIFI Tether in the play store. It's free.
At the same time, if you flashed JBFrost ROM, you can just toggle the Mobile Data on the pull down.
Good luck. I'm giving away free good luck to everyone for the holiday spirit lolz

so i tried wireless tether and foxfi, and both cant get me to share my data.
foxfi showed that it connected, but when i tried to connect my tablet I got network timed out.
wireless tether says it got an error trying to connect.
