[Q] How to backup homescreen layout/settings - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Hey all,
I am running Incredible 2 3D with the stock Sense launcher. I have everything perfect, but as you all know, either something happens, or you want to try a new ROM. Is there anyway to backup layout/settings on the STOCK Rosie; like you can with LauncherproPLUS??

try backing up rosie with titanium backup, i wouldnt restore the data on any rom other than the one you created the back up on though.

I use MyBackup because it can back up *.apk files and their associated data.
Titanium backup

The only backup app you will ever need
ROM manager backs up and restores everything for me when I switch from rom to rom. Just set up everything once while on each rom and create a backup for each to restore to. I also us Titanium backup to backup my apps but you don't need it if you just want to restore your settings and apps as you saved it in rom manager.

[Q] Changing ROMs

Hi Guys,
Currently, I'm running a STOCK rooted FROYO ROM.
This one to be exact:
HTC OTA Froyo 2.2, *FINAL*, build 3.36.651.6 (Rooted) Odexed
I would love to try out some of these other great ROMs, but hate going through all of the setup after each flash.
So the question is, what is the easiest way to get all my settings and apps back after flashing a new ROM? Can I make a nandroid backup and a Titanium backup (I have the paid version) then flash a new ROM, say, the FRESH one, and then do a nandroid restore and a Titanium restore and be back with all my settings/apps? Or should I not do a nandroid restore after putting the new ROM on because it's a backup of a different ROM?
Thanks for reading and any insight you might can give me.

[Q] backing up before changing ROM

ever since i rooted my phone, i have stayed with the latest Fresh ROM... but if i wanted to change to another ROM to check it out, i know titanium backup will save all my apps... and a nand backup will save my current ROM, so in case something goes wrong, i can always go back...
BUT what about my theme and how i have everything setup on my homescreen(s)... will i have to do that again? i know it onli takes 10 - 15 mins to make it the way you want, but i would still like to know if there was a easier way... any help would be appreciated... thank you
A nandroid will save everything. The moment you save it, that is how it will restore. All modifications will be there.

ok, lets say im on the latest fresh 3.1 rom rite now n do a nand backup... n then i do a full wipe n flash the fresh 3.2 rom... if i restore the nand backup now, its going to bring me back to the 3.1 rom again...
i just want to save my theme, thats all, like where i placed all the widgets, shortcuts, apps, etc... so i can just restore the theme in my new rom
Titanium backup restored all that for me. just run the batch backup "Full backup. Apps +System data" that should do it
think of nandroid like norton ghost.
if you ghost your computer when you are running windows vista then install 7 then re-install your ghost image, you are back on vista with EVERYTHING exactly as you had it when you ghosted it. icons, apps, settings, everything.

You gotta be careful when using TB batch restore like that. If it's not the same ROM and version from which you made the backup, you can introduce all sorts of problems by just cramming everything into a new environment.

Mybackup pro can save your sense homescreens if that's what you're using. I'm on current Fresh rom also, but I use ADW launcher instead Sense and LauncherPro. Not sure about LauncherPro, but if you're using ADW, you can go into adwsettings and backup your homescreen setup. However, I notice it doesn't restore the widgets but I can deal with that since they're easy enough to place back.

[Q] nandroid restore: does it remove the custom rom and replace it with stock?

Might be a pretty basic qtn but heres the deal.
I took a nandriod backup of dk28 (no root) and then flashed it with nebula rom. Now since the rom was new, all my data/contacts/apps etc are gone obviously.. I am wondering if I did a restore of the nandroid restore, will it restore all that (ie sms/email/contacts/data/apps) or is it used to go back to stock rom only, ie it will remove my custom rom and put back the stock as it was pre flashing nebula?
All I need is a way to keep the custom rom but also restore my sms/email/apps etc.
Thanks!

It will restore everything excatly how it was when you saved it. Including your Texts/Mail etc that were in your inbox at the time you saved. You are basically going back to the exact point where you saved. You can create backups for every rom you have, it is not just for putting your phone back to stock. I always back up stock first, so I can always go back if needed.
Thanks Heelfan71..I understand it puts back everything as it was .. but will I loose my custom rom after that is my question.

If you restore your backup? Yes you will loose your custom rom, unless you make a backup of that too (this is what I do). So you can go back and forth between the 2 if needed. Is that what you were wondering?
basically i want to switch back and forth the roms but keep my data intact.. right now after flashing the new rom.. i have obviously lost all my sms/emails/apps etc.. is there a one click solution which will restore all my data on every new rom i install?
edit: Also , I did take a titanium backup before I flashed the new rom.. but i didnt do a complete (ALL) backup, since I couldnt find a option to backup all. I had to choose each service/app/etc to backup.. so I ended up backing up all the stuff that I understood..but restoring them hasnt restored my sms/email data yet.
Do an advanced restore->restore /data in cwm.
I've had pretty good luck keeping my contacts, apps, and settings this way. Some people see weird force close issues after restoring /data. Check it out and see if it works for you.
thaniks.. i ll give it a try .. i thought about it.. but wasnt sure what exactly it does.
did that .. now that removed the rom manager and spare parts.. not sure what else it did.. but it did bring everything sms/apps/emails back ..
i guess i can install rom manager from the market..
If you only restore data your custom rom will stay. It will only restore your apps and app data. If you are restoring data from a rom on the same file system, you should be fine.
In other words, flashing VIPERrom 4.0.3 EXT4, then backing up, then flashing Bonsai 1.1.4 on RFS, then restoring data is not a good idea.
@ryno502 makes sense....thats what i did and it did restore everything.. Thanks!
now i ve to find some good widgets and lockscreen changes..
Nandroid restore on Custom ROM
I own a Xperia Arc(LT 15i)..rooted,unlocked...
I have Cyanogenmod, stable version running on my phone now...
I had taken a nandroid backup using CWM Auto-installer...
But now I wanna know how can i restore my apps that i had with Stock ROM...i tried a advanced backup on /data alone but then, its not booting up if i do so...
Please help..
Xperia?
Your data is incompatible with CM. You will need to download apps again unless you have a Titanium Backup.

[Q] Doing a nandroid backup

If I flash a new Rom and I boot into recovery and restore my backup via nandroid backup
Will all my apps and homescreens be the way I set them before i went to the new rom?
However you settup your rom, what apps you installed, wallpaper, themes etc, when you make a nandroid backup it backups the entire rom as it is, and when you restore it will put it back just like it was before you did your nandroid backup.
so in other words, yes
Cool so lets say I decide to go with a different Rom...and I restore my backup in the Recovery. Would it put all my apps and and screens the way I had my other Rom? or would it put my old Rom and stuff back on there?

It would put your apps & widgets etc back where they were, but your rom will be whatever it was when you did the backup.
For example, if you're running cm 6 & run a backup then flash something like myn's (just as an example), then restore your backup after flashing the new rom, you'll be back on cm6. There isn't a good way to backup homescreens. If you backup & restore in ADW Ex, I know it'll restore your shortcuts but not widgets. I'm not sure about other launchers.
ah, yeah I understand. What a bummer! It's always a pain in the butt to put everything back. Thanks!

It's not really that difficult to restore apps and homescreens. Use Titanium backup to restore apps and data between roms (I wouldn't recommend restoring system apps though). Another option is MyBackup Pro, which can restore apps+data and also does "Android Home" backups aka homescreens, except for the widgets. If you use LauncherPro Plus, you can make a backup of your homescreens and restore it when you re-install LPP, except for widgets on your homescreen like MBPro.
