[Q] Google services framework stopped after nandroid restore. - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
After rooting and trying some ROM's out i wanted to go back to an 'old' ROM from which I had a nandroid backup. It went smooth the first time but the second time I got a error saying that Google services framework stopped working.
Only the stock app worked and none of my other installed apps did.
I couldn't even open the settings menu nor could i open Titanium backup.
I then reflashed the ROM and manually copied some TB backup folders but lost all other data.
Someone has an idea about this?

I'm using Amon_RA atm.

Still no fix?...

try re-flashing recovery and then do the restore again. If you don't know how check the guide in my link.

When i attempt to restore any app i've backed up on the sd card via titanium backup it wont restore them. It goes through, acts like it installed but when i reboot the phone and do the above mentioned things it just doesnt show up...
I should mentioned i came from stock rooted EVO 4G 1.3x ROM
Anyone ever heard of this problem before?
bump, anyone?
ANother thing its now doing is i was able to get the apps to show up in market, however they show as installed... until i click on the app then it asks me to install it.
Friggin weird.
anyone at all?
That's a weird one. I've been using Titanium quite a bit lately with no problems. You might just have to wipe and start over. Have you tried uninstalling / reinstalling Titanium? Its also possible there's a problem with your SD card. Do you have another one you could test with?
Did you go into settings / applications and put a check in the unknown sources box?
.....
Frank...
yes unknown sources is checked.
SD card as far as i know has no problems, ill try with a new one.
Thanks for the info.
im having the same problem. i have unknown sources checked, reflashed a couple times, and have even re-rooted. it works perfectly in both fresh and OMJ, but DC just fails. if you install the apps manually and then do a restore of app+data, it will restore the data properly, but it fails when you try to install from the backup.

Same problem here...Fresh, Calkulin's EviO, Baked Snack, and Toasted Delight ROMs have all been able to restore just fine using Titanium Backup.
It's too bad...I really wanted to try DCs ROM, but I'm not gonna go through installing all my missing apps and setting up all the screens again.
Has anyone found a way to fix this yet?

Just make a nandroid backup, wipe, and try out DC 3.2.3 yourself. 99% chance everything will be fine.

The problem isn't loading the ROM. I'm able to install DC after doing a full wipe...it seems to be the only ROM that causes problem when trying to do a full Titanium Backup restore.

[Q] Proper backup help

I am running Virtuous and it is running smooth as butter, but I would like to try one of the CM7 nighly, and want to be able to go back if need be with out hours of work. I am running clockwork recovery and rom manager, and also have titaium back up installed. Phone is rooted with s-off. Can I just run a back up from rom manager do a complete wipe and install CM7. I also need to update hboot from .79 to .92 should this be done prior to the rom manager back up. Should CM7 not work out how do I restore back? Thanks
Yeah just nandroid (which means backing up the rom and all your settings) and you can go back at any time. In Rom manager just go to Backup current Rom and you will always have a copy of your setup EXACTLY as it is.
You can update HBOOT whenever you want, it really doesn't matter when you do it. Once you do it will stay that way.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't doing a nandroid backup essentially make a complete clone of your entire phone that you can restore later?

Okay, here's what you to do back up:
1. Back up your apps with Titanium Backup - DO NOT BACK UP PHONE DATA. Backing up data for games (e.g. Angry Birds) is fine, but don't back up contacts or Gmail or anything that's going to be included in your new ROM. Reason is, when you restore everything (more on that later), you don't want to have conflicting data screwing things up.
2. Make a nandroid using ROM Manager. Just go to where it says backup current rom, and let it do it's magic. You can (and should) rename it to something you can remember. DO NOT USE SPACES. I like to name mine with the date, ROM name, and version number (e.g. 2-3-11_Virtuous_3.1.0)
3. After the backup finishes, install the new ROM - I always do this through ROM Manager.
4. When CM7 is finished installing, download Titanium Backup and restore your apps using the batch operation - it's a lot simpler than trying to find all your apps and download/install them yourself
5. To go back, simply click "Restore Backup" in ROM Manager and pick Virtuous and all your hard work will be restored
Enjoy!
I've had lots of trouble with ROM manager not restoring or backing up my current ROM properly.....it'll always say that the installation was aborted or say the file is corrupt

How much free space is left on your card? Format and try it with a clean card. I have never had a problem with it restoring anything of mine.

Am I asking for trouble when backing up apps via titium, and switching roms? I thought that I read that somewhere? I have used app brain to do the restores, but it is a little slow. Also Thanks to everyone for the replies.
I've read that the newer versions of Clockwork are troublesome....anything after 2.5.05. I just went in and erased any previous ROM's that I don't use anymore to free up valuable space on the SD card. Hopefully it works, but the message error i've been getting......well not a message error, but my phone seems to freeze up while developing MD5sum. I read to leave it alone and it might take 10 min's actually, but just want to confirm this is true. Thanks.

I've gone from Stock to Virtuous to MIUI to CyanogenMod and I can say definitively that I have never had any problems with Titanium backing up/restoring apps. You are asking for trouble if you try to back up system data and restore it for ROM's that they were never intended for - just back up the apps you downloaded from the market/installed yourself and you'll be fine
So here is what I did,
1 Did a Rom back up from Rom manager
2 Backed up user apps with Titanium Pro
3 Updated Clock Work Mod to 2.5.1.2
4 Flashed Hboot from .79 to .92
This is were ran into a problem, after hboot flashed it just went into a boot loop were all I could do is go into hboot or clock work recovery but that is it phone would not boot. I searched a little and read that hboot wipes the kernal and that is why it will not reboot. I then went into clockwork and restored the rom I backed up in step 1, and it worked like a charm. Thought I would share so any one else who runs into this. Now off to flash cm7!
Rocking CM7 now, Thanks for all the help and advice from everyone. The Android community rocks.

HELP NEEDED with CWM "error while restoring /data!"

Hey guys,
I have kind of a serious issue right now. I used Touch Recovery 5.8.0.2 and made a full backup today of my whole ROM (2.5GB) before trying out some mods which eventually didn't work. So I decided to wipe and restore the backup I made. No matter what I do I cannot get it to restore my data partition properly. I keep getting "Error while restoring /data!" message, however it does the boot image and system fine but doesn't continue to cache and sd-ext because of the failed data. Whenever I boot it up, some of my apps are missing from the home screen and practically all of them are not working when I launch them (force close). I also get boot up error of Google+ force close, among a bunch of other issues. This is happening even when I try to restore an older backup as well. My device is not working state right now and although I can just restore the stock images to get it working again, it is urgent that I restore my data ASAP! I tried wiping several times and even using the non-touch 5.5.0.4 recovery to restore and same thing keeps happening.
Any help would be highly appreciated!
Please don't tell me my backup is corrupt
Update 1: Eventually I gave up and started from scratch but I have confirmed already this happened on a fresh backup as well, at this time we are trying to figure out what is causing this so I can go back to safely backing up and restoring backups.
Update 2: We have test builds of TWRP Recovery that may have resolved this issue! We need testers!
Please see this post: Link Here
Update 3: We have test builds of ClockworkMod Recovery 6 that may have resolved this issue as well! We need testers!

is your phone encrypted?
are you running stock recovery?
are you running a stock Rom?
have you done a factory reset yet?
Hi Spectre85,
My phone did fine yesterday, I was running AOPK Milestone 3 with FAUX123 kernel.
But when I woke up, my phone looked like it's battery was emtpy.
- When I plugged the phone with the charger, I started the phone again.
- Unfortunately my phone keep looping at the Google screen over and over.
So I pulled the battery and put the battery back again in the phone.
- I went to the bootloader and went to CWM recovery.
Deleted Data, Cache and Dalvike cache.
- Tried to retrieve my backup rom, but keep getting this "Error while restoring /data!" message.
I've tried to install other roms as well, but I still keep getting the bootloop at the Google screen.
Have you guys have any advice for me?

For me, no, no (CWM Touch 5.8.0.2), yes (stock rooted 4.0.4), no but my goal is to restore my data not erase it.
I had this happen to me before, what I did was flash a factory image through fast boot and it was fine after.

Thanks guys..I flashed the factory image through Fastboot mode and the phone works perfectly again! Too bad I lost all my data, but I'm happier that I have my phone fully functional again

I did copy it. I have full access to the file. Also, just fyi my goal here is not just to get to working state (I'm aware of the stock images) but to actually recover my data. My phone is currently on stock images completely blank and working now.
Fast boot flash the nand images just like u did the stock ones.

Nanadroid files can be flashed in fastboot? Are you sure? First time I'm hearing this. Doesn't fastboot need .img files? These are .tar files.
Open it up and see if its image...sorry all my recoveries use images.

I guess it depends on the recovery version you use. I remember older versions actually had .img files. However 5.5.0.4 and Touch 5.8.0.2 both have ext4.tar files.
Which version of recovery do you use?
If you have root, you can restore your data partition using Titanium Backup. Use "Export from Nandroid Backup" within TB, select the nandroid backup and then select all apps that you want to restore

Yes. Titanium Backup can restore all your system apps as well as downloaded apps from a nandroid backup. Not as clean as a nandroid restore from CWM but essentially the same thing. But try to see if Titanium Backup can extract your nandroid backup. It all depends on what exactly went wrong with your nandroid backup to begin with. I don't think it restores cache. So not sure about wallpaper.

You're right. This works great for restore data to select apps (got my notes and game saves back). I think the icon layout is held in the launcher settings, I'm about to try and restore the data to the launcher app and see what happens. I'm making a CWM backup of first of my current state (that's assuming this backup will actually work).
EDIT: Yes! That did it! Widgets position weren't saved but it's ok I only had a few so I manually put them back. Thank you! I never knew TB had the ability to work with nandroid backups.
I guess this now just leaves me figuring out what went wrong with the CWM backup. It happened twice (I have two backups from the same day that won't restore). Does anyone else use CWM Touch 5.8.0.2 and have successful backups? I would experiment to see if it works now but I don't want to end up with a corrupt backup and redo everything again.
Yes with me its the same thing my data its corrupt is even worse every time I do a nanobackup and restarted my phone the phone freezes on the boot logo and I have to go back to recovery trying to use my backups but I can't so I have to flash a new from again and start from the beginning again!!!! Anybody here has the same experience with that ???
So AGAIN, I'm having the same issue. This time on a recovery 5.5.0.4 that used to work for me when I originally got my phone. I think either my data partition might be too big or something but this really needs to fixed pronto. Anyone know how to contact Koush directly in regards to this matter?

[Q] Can't restore /data after 4.3 update

Hello!
I'm in a bit of panic. Since Google pushes their stuff over OTA and my custom rom PAC somehow didn't deal with that correctly, it caused to use all my data, so I wanted to give stock 4.3 a try.
Rebooted into CWM, made a backup of my current ROM, free unused backup data, did a factory reset like always and flashed the 4.3 image. Wasn't happy at all with stock 4.3 so I wanted to go back. To my horror, restoring that image failed. Error while restoring /data!. I tried booting up anyway, maybe only a few settings were lost, but it started like the first time I flashed the ROM with the gapps log-in thing and all my apps are gone.
I tried getting back in CWM, manually restored /data, but that didn't work either. It starts restoring /data but then halfway through it stops with the error.
Previous backups (AOKP/CM/PAC) didn't restore /data either.
Installing Nandroid Manager to restore individual apps to a fresh ROM fails too. It sees all apps but it can't restore anything at all.
I have come to the discovery that apps won't even install. Apps manually extracted from the backups are 0kb and I can't seem to install some apps from the Play Store either. Unknown error code during application install: "-24"
Does 4.3 change anything about where the /data partition is? Or what happened?
What's the problem and can I even restore the data? Or do I have to start over?

Flash backwards first
not an expert here, but isnt the general protocol to try to flash back to the same version of the os first (i.e 4.2.2), and then try the CWM restore?
Are you able to try to track down the same os version you had before?
