Since we have the TW launcher from it, is it also possible to have the dialer, which I assume doesn't say 'Favourites,' but would ostensibly use the US English spelling?
If it is possible, I'd like to request it.
Here's a thread about using the dialer on the Vibrant which links to the dump (appears to be dead) and pics of the dialer.

I like it better. If anyone can post the .apks needed, that would be great.
Nobody thinks this is a good idea but me?
u mean SGS2 4g dialer ?
Just a thought will the release of this phone in the USA have local spelling .
Presuming that the phone apk could be used from that if its as per your language .

Yes, isn't this the ROM from which the new Touchwiz was extracted? I think the official title of the US device is "Epic 4G Touch" and it's this (as I understood) from which we have the latest Touchwiz. From the pics I've seen of the dialer, it also has US English spelling, and I'd prefer that to the old English 'spell it however you want until it sticks' method.
Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch isn't released yet, is it? But where did we get that new TW from?
Those Brits and Canadians, etc. just trampled on the Latin roots of every one of those words. Color, Flavor, Favorites...
If we can get TW from this thread:

Is the dialer an impossible task?

Primarily, it has proper US English, so it doesn't use "Favourites" as a spelling for Favorites.
Have you found a way to get version of the dialer that uses U.S. English?
No, I haven't. I've had no success.

thanks for the reminder, just stopped the download
As a UK T-Mobile customer, I will be trying this when an English version is released.
Does anyone know if the 1.17 Radio with this is identical to the 1.17 we already have?
I think in the past T-Mobile have included a couple of fixes in Radio ROMs upon release...
Looking forward to this - if it's poor I'll just go straight back to KDSKamal!

I would guess so - would think if T-Mobile went to the effort of making a new ROM for the MDA PRO they'd want to release it to all MDA PRO owners.
Don't have an idea as to what kind of time frame we're looking at though. Have ROMs in the past come out for T-MOIBLE.de before they come out in WWE? And if so was it days or weeks or longer before the english release?
I'm tempted to try it out just to see how it feels on the MDA even though it wouldn't make a lot of sense to me (who can barely count to ten in German!)
after I install this new ROM, do I need to install english input? because my keyboard layout is QWERTY not QWERTZ..

I do understand German, the problem for me is the keyboard input. I'm afraid if I press Y button on my keyboard, Z will show on the screen instead of Y.. and vice versa..

In that case, the problem could possibly be gotten around by selecting UK or US English in Start-Settings-System-Regional settings and restarting when it tells you, that should map the keys correctly I think
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\QUERTY

Where x is a numeric value for a specific keyboard

Well, if it's anything like the last T-Mobile ROM (which I've reverted to from your WM5 ROM just for a little bit to try it out) it'll be a bit slower through the menus, will be as stable (and more stable than other cooked ROMs of the past) and will save you the effort of setting up your GPRS and MMS settings!!! (if you're on T-Mobile that is)
Camera app Version?
Could please somebody look which version the camera app on the new 3.3 is?

I have install the ROM and I have to say it is until now very fast and Stable ROM . I am returning actually from WM6 and I have to say this ROM compare to any WM6 much faster ( I have use all the WM6 available ROM's).
I am using it nowfor 24 hours and it has given no problems at all. amazingly I have after 24H still some 22mg RAM. Which means no memory leak what so ever

I have some bad news on that actually. I sent this message to T-Mobile support in the UK:
"Hello,
T-Mobile Germany, a few days ago released a new software download for the MDA PRO (AKU3.3). The current English T-Mobile ROM which I am using is extremely dated and I was wondering when an English release of this new download would be made availible on tm-phonedownloads.com?
Manythanks."
Unfortunately, this is the reply I received today:
"Good afternoon Mark.
Thank you for your email.
I am afraid that we will not be releasing another update for the MDA Pro. Generally speaking, we stop updating our phone software when it is discontinued. In this case, the MDA Pro is not part of our current lineup so another software update will not be offered.
Thank you for your time.
Kind regards.
PaulByrne
T-Mobile"
Now I wouldn't consider that a definate no, 'cos I think the MDA PRO is discontinued in Germany too and they've released the update there but who knows... It doesn't look too good though :-( Think the future of the HTC Universal lies in the hands of the Devs...
Hey guys...I read this in the Topaz forum and noticed this on a lot of our Rhodium ROMs.
The call does not connect when someone calls you...it just gets stuck for a few seconds and then connects the call. I think it has something to do with the dialer that is being used.
I also think its specific to AT&T Tilt 2 phones. AT&T and Leo dialer works but the HTC canvas doesn't work.
So my question is, is there a workaround or can anyone make a cab for either the AT&T dialer or the Leo dialer??
PLEASEEEE...cause this prevents me (and a lot of AT&T users, I'm sure) from using a lot of the ROMs that are out there.

The problem occurs regardless of whether S2U2 is install or not for me on my Tilt 2. The only ROM that I have not had this issue with is AtomAng v6 with the AT&T dialer.
I am also looking for a cab'ed version of the at&t dialer....attempting to pull it out of AtomAng's rom, but as I have never done this before, I do not know how successful I will be!
More info from Arrup (RRE rom)

I have the same problem and I have been trying to cook or create a cab with the AT&T dialer but it keeps failing. If I come up with something i'll post it or wait until someone comes up with something.
Would be great to get a difinitive cab for this so that all of us AT&T Pure users can experiment with other ROMs. So far, the best one for me have been Dutty's Leo Phonecanvas ROMs, which don't have the videocall feature and therefore sidestep this problem with the Pure.
Was wondering if a solution for this came about yet? I'm running Miri's Sense 2.5 Rom and the only problem is the Dialer. Miri cooked in the default HTC Rhodium Dialer. Has anyone seen a way to overwrite the dialer with the AT&T one? One temporary solution is to cut 3G off, but who wants to do that ?

Scoot and I are wanting to pare down the size of the all language Cyanogen release builds. The best way to do that is to obviously remove some languages. These are what we have discussed keeping so far. If you have a need for one that is not listed add a reply with the language you want to keep.
English
Spanish
French
German
Dutch
Italian
Portugeese
Arabic
Romanian
Russian
Polish
Czech
Hebrew
Chineese
Greek
And I know I am missing a few so please do request them!
Does anyone use vietnamese, chineese, japanese or korean? I know typically people in those countries already have phones better than our kaisers lol.
Edit: Due to the large list of languages that we need to keep. I think we should do a Eurasia pack, English,Spanish and French and all languages as per suggestion earlier. That would be do-able.
Part of why its so huge our builds are... well look at english for instance. There are like 10 different versions listed.

I wanted to go for that idea a long time ago but it doesnt work that way sadly. The support has to be compiled into the framework. So at the time the build is compiled you get to choose what languages but thats it.
thats a shame, this would strip down the builds a lot... ill stay with the eng then

I like the way dzo did for Fresh Froyo, with multiple variants: US (English and Spanish), EU (Euro-languages), and FULL (all languages). My own personal Fresh Froyo build is english only, with one wallpaper, no live wallpapers, and no apps that I can install after installation. I would recommend posting this question in the Samsung support forums.
The Epic 4g was a US only phone, un like the i9000 series (THE Galaxy S) which was released across the board; that may be the reson why the phone doesn't hve native multilanguage (Arabic included) support.

I just flashed yakju yesterday (4.0.4) coming from a yakjuxw (4.0.2).
In the process I have lost the portuguese dictionary. If I scan for dictionary add-ons it's not there to be seen. Neither is danish or any other scandinavian language dictionaries for that matter so in short... if you want auto correct with the standard keyboard in danish at the moment then don't flash 4.0.4.
I have a NAND backup of my yakjuxw 4.0.2 so I will probably put it back today to confirm that I did have the portuguese auto correct dictionary and if so, somehow try to locate the file and maybe hack it into 4.0.4 yakju but I fear my android skills aren't enough for the task
It kinda sucks though that Google doesn't provide add-on text correction dictionaries for all languages.. why do you need a separate build for this..
Yeah its wiered that they cant just add it, since there is a menu where you can search for updates to dictionarys.
But as far as i know(wich isnt that far at all), its not possible to go back to yakjuxw. Only if you can get a nandroid backup from someone. And im not sure that will work, but its just a suggestion i saw somewhere here on xda.
I just gave the Swiftkey X a go on my Desire(GNex is in for repair), and so far it seems pretty nice. The dictionary is way better than the ICS keyboard on market.
Give it a go, and see how you like it. It could save you a lot of trouble.

yeah I know I actually have bought it back when Google was offering 99 cent apps. But I didn't quite get along with it.. always fell back to stock. The keyboard layout just feels better to me.. and if you use stock, you're going to get all the improvements they make to it down the road (which may be novel compared to Swiftkey X). It's a matter of preference really but yeah it is the simplest solution to get all dictionaries on your phone.
You can always just switch keyboards though... using stock for english and swiftkey for other languages.. just a few more clicks away

I believe the reason why you can't go back to yakjuxw without a NAND backup it's because the factory images aren't available for download at https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
If they'd have a yakjuxw factory image I don't see why you would not be able to flash it having yakju on your phone
Well actually forget all I said about my previous post. I mixed up having the keyboard with having the text-correct dictionary.
I restored my 4.0.2 stock yakjuxw NAND backup and it also doesn't have the text correct portuguese add-on dictionary, neither the scandinavian ones. However it does come already pre-installed with Italian, French and German which you can get as add-ons with yakju anyway. My phone was bought in the Netherlands
So I guess if you're on yakjuxw and want to move to yakju, you're not missing out on any languages because you never had extra ones to begin with..
Now this is really strange... the european version of the Galaxy Nexus doesn't come with Portuguese ? 6th most spoken language in the world ? Seriously ?
Shame on you Google..

About the keyboard, i love the stock one, but without a dictionary its useless for fast writing. I got used to the ICS keyboard from Market, but the danish dictionary is just crap. When i tried Swiftkey i could really feel how the speed and ease returned.

Yeah without a dictionary it's quite difficult. But now I remember why I gave up on Swiftkey... most of the time when I have to write in my native language (portuguese) it's when I have to send an SMS. And the auto-correct of Swiftkey automatically puts the special accents such as á,ô,à and although these are supported in GSM ISO encoding (used by Nokia since the dawn of phones) Android insists on using 8 bit Unicode and suddenly your 160 char SMS is reduced to 70.. meaning you pay more per the same SMS cause it has to be broken down into 2.
Of course phone carries are happy about this so I guess they don't have a say about it
So for this reason, if sending an SMS via the stock Android browser it's actually better that the dictionary doesn't work lol
I think I read somewhere that Handcent SMS keeps the ISO encoding for the standard accents found in 7 bit ISO.. have to try that one
For reference here's the 7 bit ISO GSM alphabet http://www.dreamfabric.com/sms/default_alphabet.html
Little annoying bugs with Android you see....
And I thought I had a problem :-D
But do you really pay per SMS? Here in Denmark the free SMS and mms packages are so cheap that most people use them I think.
About the updates, it's not Samsung that manages them. Samsung i just doing some quality control but Google manages everything else. I got that from the Danish Samsung support after they checked with their developers.
But if it isn't stuff like dictionary, then what is it? I fear it could be something carrier related so a change to yakju might give me trouble. But if it's just apn I can live with entering it manually.
It's pretty annoying that we don't have a clear answer on the differences.

Well in Portugal you normally pay per SMS though there are some package deals I think. Here in the Netherlands it's also very common that you get SMS packages but still we're talking about 100-300 messages per month which if you lose them twice as fast by using non standard chars then it's a bad deal
