It is believed. That more or less it's not secure to use they're products because it phones home information, whether it be what you type or anything of that matter I honestly don't know, but many people think that way and avoid it. I can't confirm or disprove either accusation of safety or unsafety. But it's worth looking into.

[Q] Borrowing from Motoblur possible?
Hello.
I'm considering getting the Epic 4g, but was wondering if it's at all possible to 'borrow' from Motoblur, specific elements at least. I've grown accustomed to using the Motoblur UI (and has become my personal favorite), and making the move to Sprint, would cause a loss from me as Sprint does not offer Motorola Android phones.
The 'elements' I had in mind were:
- UI (Theme, Easy enough to simulate, possibly easy enough to rip)
- SMS/Contacts/Dialer, the whole integration between these apps, possibly. (If not, I would be happy if the SMS app worked on its own.)
- Connected Media Player
- The gallery app that was present in Cupcake - MotoBlur
- the built-in File explorer
I assume the Epic uses the same TouchWiz present on other Samsung phones, and all of the other apps, I can work with.
(I was personally never a big fan of Samsung phones, after owning 4 others, and having quite a number of issues with each. Sprint's Android selection is a little limited however. At least Samsung is higher in my book than HTC or LG. I'm not moving to Sprint for phone selection though, it's the cost benefit.)
EDIT: Move this if you can. The way my mind worked was that I saw the option to make this thread a question *After* the fact, and after I posted, I THEN saw the Sticky about the Q'nA Section. My bad.
...and now I have to wait 5 minutes to repost, so someone might see this before I can catch my mistake.

That's an actual Windows Phone. Not android. To mimic it, you can download Metro UI or Launcher 7 off the market. The game hub is Microsoft's, so you can't get that. You can't really copy the lockscreen.
If you like the Windows Phone's style so much, Sprint has the HTC Arrive.

-________- Windows phone has all those apps too; it has a market, you know.
And it even has a freaking Windows logo at the bottom of the phone.
There's a port for the HD2 to make it Android, but it is NOT originally android.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxkIJdG2brU <--- THAT IS THE HD2. The video you posted is the HD2 with WindowsMobile 7.
This is what you saw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiWDafvuaRw
Edit: Woah wait a minute...is that an Android port running? After watching it a bit more, it's like a mixture of two ports :S
Edit2: It must be a ROM or something, because some of those apps aren't accessible on the Android Market. I'm confused now xD
And if you're right about Android, that was really convincing. Launcher 7 has live tiles?
Look at the first video that i showed you, that is launcher 7, not windows phone 7:

What confuses me is how he got the apps to look so much like the ones from Windows 7.
I was also confused before because even though the HD2 originally has Windows Mobile, he clearly had a port for Android and then decided to make the HD2 with Android look like Windows 7 xD

It seems like he's using different launchers to mimic the People, Games etc hubs. Launcher Pro, ADW EX, etc. the launchers are heavily themed to get the same effect as the WP7 hubs, and then the launcher is linked to tiles on the home screen to get the full effect. Seems pretty straightforward to link the launchers to tiles on the homescreen, but all the theming and wallpapers, to mimic the hubs is way beyond my skill set. Anybody have any ideas?
Like the guy above me said, that is setup like this:
The main launcher is launcher7.
The hubs are just links to other launchers, probably adw, launcherpro, and go launcher.
You link the hub tiles to the respective launcher you have set up for it, and boom.
Edit: its too bad L7 doesn't work right on ICS yet. I miss using it.
Edit 2: and the wallpaper is probably multi live wallpaper. Not sure though how each launcher has a different wallpaper though.

i just threw this on my CM9 beta2 Epic4g and love it. Only issue so far is that widgets behave erratically... sometimes the BW widget from the "top" will appear on top of a standard tile towards the "bottom" and then disappear if i tap it...it still remains in the correct place, but it's like the launcher is confused where it should be on the homescreen briefly. oh, sometimes the widget will just disappear but then reappear when tapped on again. using the power widget, if i turn on wifi it will disappear, but then reappear when i tap the blank spot and wifi will be turned on.

Yes. All annoying sounds and popups still there. Samsung feels this is a safety feature since the mythological ipod that burnt down the house.
And I don't use anything that clear level 2 RAM completely. Memory Booster Lite clears as much as level 2 clear used to except maybe 10 MB and has no issues.
Isn't EI22 supposed to give us the ability to video chat thru google talk? If so, was there ever an official update for this? I can't find it anywhere on the market and all google searches lead me to believe I have to be rooted just to install it. I think I ran it back on EE03, but it seemed buggy. Did google never officially release it for all GB phones?

I think he's asking about the level 2 clear because he'd prefer not to use a 3rd party app to clear level 2 memory, and the stock task manager currently prevents texts from going out when you do this. So does the EI22 Task manager Level 2 clear prevent your outgoing texts from being sent?

The thing is replacing the launcher doesn't remove a lot of touchwiz, just the launcher...
I was very worried about jumping from CM7 to touchwiz when I got the phone, but coupled with a new launcher I have to say I do like TW.
Its kinda funny, I used to hate touchwiz back when I got my OG Epic. I always used ADW. When I got my Evo 3D I liked sense, so used that. Now I use Touchwiz on my Epic Touch. I have tried other launchers, but I dont like having to download widget apps to use with each one. I am using the calander, clock, and weather widgets from I9100 theme here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334922 I have them built into the rom, the are great.
This is the first time I have left the stock launcher on the phone. Through 4 Android devices and CM or MIUI on each one, I have always changed it because I hated the stock experience. Now with the Epic Touch I love TouchWiz. Hope Samsung keeps improving TouchWiz and doesn't move backwards with it.
Speaking of third-party launchers...why did Fede stop developing Launcherpro? Maybe not "stopped" but really, the refresh was promised for this time last year and he still hasn't done anything with it. What happened?

This is the first time I have left the stock launcher on the phone. Through 4 Android devices and CM or MIUI on each one, I have always changed it because I hated the stock experience. Now with the Epic Touch I love TouchWiz. Hope Samsung keeps improving TouchWiz and doesn't move backwards with it.

Long time ago but haven't bothered for a while. I was more or less just throwing it out there in case anyone knew anything. I am not really all that concerned to be honest as I am actually liking TouchWiz anyway.

Isn't this just a standard Android feature? I remember a friend showed me that capability on his G1 a few years ago, but he may have just been using a modded dialer.
With this being my first experience with Touchwiz (as well as Android) I haven't been conditioned to hate it, and I actually kind of like certain features like the calendar widget. I don't know if I'm not looking hard enough, but I can't find another calendar widget that behaves like TW one.
Also really like how you can adjust the brightness by touching the top bar, but I guess that isn't really TW feature.

He just disappeared. He has a music app that development has basically stopped for as well. Don't know why he stopped, he had to be making a killing. Hope he is okay.

You'd think so but no, not on the AOSP dialer from GB.

my favorite thing about touchwiz is definitely the ability to replace it with 3rd party launchers.

LOL! Oh man, that's funny right there! + 1
Having been a long time ADW EX user, which has been awesome, I'm currently running Go Launcher and I have to say: it's impressive so far.
I ran Launcher Pro Plus on my EVO and enjoyed it as well.
IMO, TW actually isn't bad for a stock launcher, especially after having used Sense for a while on both my OG EVO & EVO 3D. I didn't care for Sense. Blech. The use of hardware acceleration of TW makes it the smoothest launcher of any I have used on my S2. The modded version of TW here on XDA takes it to a new level and is actually pretty good. I used it for awhile early on and appreciated the customization ability of it over stock. I got spoiled using the gesturing features of these other launchers, though. If the modded version of TW were to incorporate this feature, I would definitely consider it as a daily driver.

Wow, it looks like everyone's favorite feature is the ability to use a 3rd party launcher
I personally use Go Launcher myself and it works for me now.

This is far and away the most ICS-like launcher I've found lately :
http://db.tt/N6xGTKpJ
It's a new beta of the 360 launcher, and through it, you can download and install a ridiculously great ICS theme... Play around with the transitions till you have exactly what you want.
P.S.: It's awesome.

the one thing touchwiz improved upon stock android is how you add widgets and are able to swipe to different screens to add them. the stock implementation is just crude looking.
also being able to move about the multiple homescreens quickly by sliding the numbered dots.
you can't discount the buttery smooth browser performance either, dunno if stock is as smooth.
First thing I do when a flash a ROM:
1. Restore ADW Ex with data
2. Delete TW launcher.
I've been having problems with launchers taking up too much memory. So I went searching for my fav, Trebuchet. I found it and it works
on the SlimRom 4.4.2 version,
Here is the download link.
This was found in the Motorola Droid section here at XDA.
Just as soon as I enabled Trebuchet the difference was felt immediately.
Previously I had tried Terrain, Nova, and Solo launcher but didn't have much luck. They all had this feel that I can only describe as sticky scrolling.
Enjoy.
If you like, then buy me a dunkin donuts hot hazelnut with extra cream and 3 sweet n' lows.

Try Holo Launcher. It's been a while since it receives an update. It's more customizable than the trebuchet, yet it's still small and fast. Personally I prefer eyes candy over speed, so I use launchers like APEX, Nova, and next 3 D.

Oh thanks. Just tried holo and holo hd. Both are very very good.
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.
Best launcher ever !
