Is it possible hide CM9's navigation bar on the fly via a script callable from LMT or even and additional option in the power menu without requiring a reboot?
I'm specifically asking about the feature for CM9 because this is my preferred ROM. Would like to "reclaim" some screen real estate whenever I feel like it.
I would love this too. It's the only real feature of AOKP that I could not live without (also great for minimising the risks of burn in).
I am a fairly experienced tech guy, and love playing fence sitting between Android and iPhone. I just sold my 4S for an even swap to a new SGS 3 on AT&T. Here are my biggest concerns:
- Phone locks immediately (no lock timeout)
- Messaging fonts HUGE
- Handcent fonts HUGE
- Settings fonts HUGE
- Lockscreen: doesn't show text in text message
- Lockscreen: No email/calendar summary
- Charging takes forever
- Must press OK when putting in the lockscreen PIN code
- Should I root or not? I want speed and I wish I could have a fully functional build of Jelly Bean with small high dpi fonts throughout
Thoughts? I wish there was like an iPhone to Android guide for power users. And I am honestly not trying to get into which is a better device. I like both, but am just used to the way things were on the iPhone and am wondering if there are equivalents here.
Phone locks immediately (no lock timeout) settings-display-screen timeout Push to 1 min
For all----!!!--settings display- don't small. Btw explore the phone.. not to be a ****, but at the same time being a ****... you should check settings...you'll be surprise to what you'll find
- Messaging fonts HUGe
- Handcent fonts HUGE
- Settings fonts HUGE
----------!!!!!!!!!!!!------------
buy widget locker, if you want that.. or go back to iphone..
- Lockscreen: doesn't show text in text message
- Lockscreen: No email/calendar summary
- Charging takes forever
Its a bigger battery than an iPhone.and screen
- Must press OK when putting in the lockscreen PIN code,
be cool and use pattern
- Should I root or not? I want speed and I wish I could have a fully functional build of Jelly Bean with small high dpi fonts throughout

He hit most of the points. Roofing does no harm. Rooting is easy on Samsung phones... just don't flash the wrong ROMs from a different carrier Verizon sprint and international.

I agree, there's nothing harmful about roofies. You should try it.

Former iPhone user here.
For your items on lockscreen, are you a lockinfo user or just referring to the stock notifications? Anyway, you could try a couple of options. Widget locker would work as mentioned, but also consider no lock screen at all. Then put the messages widget on your home screen as you want.
Charging - make sure you use the stock charger. Don't charge via your computer's USB port.
Rooting - highly reccomended. You can change your DPI of the phone overall (similar to changing resolution on a PC) and it will make everything smaller, including fonts. The stock DPI is 320, I run at 280 and really happy with it. I also reccomend CyanogenMod ROMs. I am running CM10 (jellybean) and I love the amount of customization and speed of the phone. It's a much better experience than stock.
An example of some of the customizations:
-you can reprogram the menu button to act like the HTC One X so that it's a multitasking button, then make the long-press of menu map to menu.
-you can make the lockscreen delayed by some set period of time (i.e. you turn off the screen, and then quickly remember something you wanted to do, turn it back on and not locked yet).
-customize the toggles in the notification area, including media controls (pause/play/ff/rw)

- idk i dont think mine does that..
- settings > display > font size
- doesn't really bother me since i'm gonna be going into the message app anyways.
- you can find alternative lock screen options if you'd liek this (not sure if they have it though)
- charging on my phone is SUPER QUICK, much faster then i imagined.
- no one uses pin code loooooooooooooooool!! i've never seen pin code/password lock used on any android phone. its either swipe or pattern. (explains the ugliness of those 2 locks)
- your choice.
Definitely root your phone and install CM10. TBH Samsung's touchwiz is really touchsux. No one should have to deal with it. CM10 has "quick unlock" functionality that will accept your pin after you enter it like the iphone.
One other thing to remember. Android is an open source operating system. The manufacturers download the source from Google recompile it for their phone, then send the modified source to the carrier. The carrier then modifies the source to be what they think it should. When you compare Android/iOS you should NEVER compare a non-Nexus phone with the iPhone. You should only compare an Android phone running AOSP ROMs with iOS. Any carrier software will cause it to suck horribly.
for the Phone going to lock , you can just activate 'Smart Stay' under display settings, and it will not lock if you are looking at the phone:cyclops:

You can bring down the notification tray on lockscreen which shows some of a text message, in Jelly Bean it will show even more.
EDIT: For messaging you can easily change the font size in the stock messaging app, by going to where it shows all the threads, hitting menu>settings and then select "Use the volume key" to change the font size with volume key.
I did exactly the same thing - love the gs3

I use the PIN-lock on my Nexus.
Just picked up this phone today and while i love all it has to offer, the huge system icons in the notification bar irk me. (like the wifi, 4g, and such) Is there any way to disable some, such as the headphone ones? Or is this just something I'll have to get used to?

If you root you can loose some of them
Any way to do that? Reason I'm asking is that I want to use dashlock but sadly it's always minimized. Tried some mods but they don't seem to work. Alternatively is it possible to extend the notifications now only used for calls/sms to also show notifications from other apps?
I'm using Slidelock at the moment but I do miss a bit the original lockscreen, it has some better qualities in it.
Thanks!

Hi,
I would really like to get rid of this stupid menu bar that consumes a lot of screen space and replace it with a good gesture control 'app'.
I used pie controls in the past. It works, but is rather fiddly for going back a few times.
I like the way the iPad handles multitouch gestures and would like somthing similar.
Setting it up can be complicated, but using it should be simple
Running Stock unrooted, but rooting is not a problem.
Thanks for your answers
