is there another / better way..

You can try from a pc. Youll just have to install the usb driver. What radio are you on and are you running froyo or gingerbread?

Froyo 2.2
baseband version 2.15.00.07.28 (radio?)
softwarenumber 3.26.605.1
is there a possibility that is just didnt work threw the mac..
(when i did threw the mac it was just one click and kept on going.. i didnt have to do anything, is that normal?)
is there another way besides unrevoked?
There 's only Unrevoked for the Incredible. Rooting via the Mac or Linux is a one click method. It is the easier method whereas rooting via PC requires you install drivers prior to rooting.
It took me a few tries when using Unrevoked on my friends Mac before it worked. I think my solution was a matter of plugging and unplugging it, selecting USB Debugging for it to work, OR redownloading unrevoked and restarting my friends Mac. It was so long ago that I don't remember why it didn't work initially but it worked the fourth attempt.

My HTC Desire is ok most of the time.
Until i plug my usb cable in & try to download, then i get a reboot & have to reconnect & try again to no avail. I am trying to root my phone with unrevoked 3 & get to the point where the phone is being rooted & my phone will reboot at the same position each time. My phone is currently loaded withCyanogen7.03
I was trying to load another rom & had the same problem of rebooting, that is when i thought i would reroot my phone. Is there anyone that can lead me in the right direction .
Partial USB Brick.
Is the phone more or less operational?
You run AlphaRev by chance? (S-Off)
Surprised you ran unrevoked again when you were already rooted.
Try this; flash your cwm recovery through ROM manager to get the latest version.
Do all your wipes as usual.
Flash Cyanogenmod7 again.
Also, you can run a search for USB Brick. I've seen several of these as of late in numerous forums.
One more question, does it reboot when you plug it in to charge?
If not, you're lucky.

Is there a way to root stock 2.2 that isn't unREVoked or z4root? I can't get unREVoked to work, just tells me to connect phone via usb and enable USB debugging. I have done this. Adb isn't working either, and z4root just sits at the screen for hours saying it's working. I just need a temp root for now, as I am having a usb problem where the phone reboots to 5 vibe whenever unplugged. I obviously want to get back to rooted, but just want to go one step at a time. Phone can read the SD, but my computer cannot recognize USB storage mode.
Is there a way to get this done?
Thanks,

Did you get the drivers for Windows and change USB connect to "charge only?" Not sure about how else to go about rooting to be honest.

Ahhh, fancy schmancy lol. I have very little experience with a Mac in general, and absolutely none with rooting on a Mac. Hopefully someone else could chime in and help ya out!

I've installed what I think to be are the proper drivers for the EVO 4G onto my Windows 7 64bit PC. While connected, however, despite the mode (HTC Sync, disk drive, etc.) the computer keeps "thinking" that the phone is continuously being plugged in and out. Any ideas how to fix this? Any proper drivers or a link to them that could solve this issue?
I'm basically trying to re-root after an unrevoked root awhile back and, unfortunately, since an OTA Gingerbread update.
About to try a VM of a fresh XP install with the said drivers and try that way...
So far the VM is also intermittently disconnecting the EVO 4G from it's recognition. What the hell? It recognizes it, disconnects it, recognizes it, disconnects it... with no pattern or rhythm whatsoever. What the hell's going on? I used both Win 7 and a FRESH install of XP on a virtual machine. I don't get it.
What ROM are you running>
I had a thread on here about that happening to me on Sense ROMS, including the Stock ROM.

If you read the OP, he's on the stock GB OTA, and trying to root his phone.

If you rooted with unrevoked and didn't s-on then you may still be s-off and only have to flash recovery.
It may not be the computer, it could be the phone's charging port or your USB cable. Mine is loose, I have to hold the phone above the USB cable, our with the cable pointing upwards into the charging port sometimes.
If that doesn't work, try a different computer or cable. If it does the same on a different computer then you know it's not the computer.

fortunately, using the new revolutionary method, the phone was able to "stay connected" long enough for root (yay0r!). anyhow, it wouldn't stay on long enough to flash clockword mod but whatevz. since i was able to get S-OFF, i just flashed the alternate recovery (amron ra, i think?) through adb on my mac. all good to go. thanks for your replies, however.
back to the point, i did try another USB port on the same PC and no luck. even tried a different cable. i still don't know why that was happening but i'm now rooted, which was my goal. running cyanogenmod7 w/goodies like the transparent google search bar and lovin' it - should definitely hold me over until the sexy galaxy nexy comes out soon. thanks all and happy holidays!
@plainjane: by the way, i had to RUU*.exe from unrevoked root to get back to factory settings because i had an issue i had to take the phone in for, so it reverted back to S-ON prior to my reroot last night.
In the future, you don't have to unroot to take your phone to Sprint. Just flash a Stock/Rooted ROM
Better yet, EVERYONE should have a nandroid of their phone, stock, right after rooting
I have rooted a DINC2 successfully in the past but for some reason I've been failing and it's VERY frustrating! I got my replacement phone 3-4 days ago and i've tried rooting it using the Revolutionary method and every time it gets stuck on "Waiting for fastboot"! No matter how many times i try it still does it. I've tried rebooting the computer and the phone, still doesnt work. My phone IS ON DEBUGGING MODE, charge only, fast boot is un checked, ive downloaded the driver, no anti virus program is running in the background and I am still having this problem! I have tried looking for the solution of this but nothing has been working, please help!
also i am using Windows Vista and I do not have access to another computer
You might be on firmware 6.*****
If so, you have to downgrade a little different way. There is a thread in development.
Are you running cmd as administrator?

This. I just got a replacement and it was on the most recent firmware. You have to downgrade using tacoroot method (or equivalent) first, then you'll be able to run Revolutionary.
I started to download unrevoked onto my Evo, but the cable became disconnected.. Now, when I try to use the Unrevoked program to "reload" the program, it just sits there and does not seem to recognize that my device is connected... I do have debugging mode on, as per the instructions. Revolutionary also just waits to recognize the device. The device is recognized, as the evo tells me the debugging mode is on when the cable is plugged in.,,,
What can I do to solve this issue??? I just want to root my phone... Thanks!!!:crying:
Any other suggestions for rooting appreciated!

Hi Diva64, how far did you get in the process before the usb came unplugged? Are you able to just reboot your phone and start again? Any other information you can give to pin point what stage it went wrong and what your phone is doing, or not doing will help me walk you through the rooting process.
Thanks jOst..
I got probably about 75% of the download. The phone is acting fine... I was able to just continue on as if nothing happened.... the problem is when trying to "redownload" the revolutionary program onto the evo via the windows popup program. ... the windows computer program pops up, but says it is waiting for the device to be connected.
When I connect the evo, the notification bar tells me debugging mode is on, but nothing else happens on the evo or the windows program. I did try rebooting the phone w/no problem, and I cleared the application cache, thinking that maybe the evo thinks the download occurred... Again, the phone itself works fine in stock mode... Hope this provides some clarification! Thanks for your help!
Any help would be appreciated!! Anybody??? Thanks!!!

hey Diva64,
sorry it took a min to get back to you. Glad to hear your phone is able to go through round two..lol, ok. I have ran a virtual machine numerous times and have found these basic failures, basically to do with wrong drivers or lack there of....question...do you have htc sync installed on the pc you are rooting from? if yes, remove and go to root method.... if no, question two. Do you have the diagnostic drivers installed for your phone yet? if no, google search diag evo drivers and install. (will give more instructions as you define what or what is not missing. ) if yes, question three. did you verify the checksum of your downloaded unrevoked.exe. possibly corrupted files is why i ask. if no, check by going to download page and look for sum. after redownloading, match the sum from your pc to what is listed on the dl page. let me know what you find.
Still not rooting
I was able to make some progress.. to the point that the screen on the computer tells me it is "rooting..." it does this for a few minutes, then I get an error screen telling me "error: Failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?"
My Phone is an Evo 4g (NOT lte)
Sprint
Supersonic EVT 3 Ship S - ON
Hboot 2.16.0001
Android 2.3.3
What should I do next? Thanks!!!
You should be using Revolutionary, not Unrevoked. Unrevoked is for older Hboots. Been awhile since I used it, so not sure how much help I can offer. Biggest thing to me was making sure I had the drivers installed that are in the Revolutionary guide. Everything else was a cinch.
