I was playing about on the new Opera 10 beta yesterday, and do you know the lil cursor pointer, well its a bit difficult to navigate with the dodgy dpad our beloved TPs and Diamonds have. Well i wondered, wouldnt it be cool if we could use the capacative navi panel at the bottom for a track pad, yes i know there are apps out there like this such as Gscroll, but i was thinking of an app ONLY for thefor where the center button is. I find when using Gscroll i could press parts of the navipanel i dont mean to touch and it would try to activate a program. Now i know alot of you will be telling me why do you need this hwen your phones a touchscreen, well, it would jus be nice to have a working dpand for once without pressing the home/back or call buttons. the app would ideally stop the rest of the navi panel apart from the middle button. What you think? Ive tried searching for this but with no luck, if anybody knws of anapp like this, lemme know!
Yes, i know thats not what the play is for, but sometimes i want to use it for e-books.
Is there an app that allows me to turn pages with my shoulder buttons?
PLAY around with the button changer apps
I used the XDA App to post this, what did you use?
Played around with them but could not get ihem to work. I use CM7.
Do they even allow remapping to the volume keys?
Well there was an app, but doesn't support new FW.
no point in making now since ICE CREAM SAMMICH is coming next month. Give time till NOVEMBER and in sure there will be an app for it.
I used the XDA App to post this, what did you use?
And how would waiting for till November solve anything?
Back to my question, is there an e reader out there that allows you to chose wat buttons turn the page? Seems to me like that would be a basic feature, but the ones i tried didn't have it.
Keep in mind that unlike volume buttons, shoulder buttons are by no mean a standard feature of Android phones. It's not a "basic feature" at all.
The user hatcyl is working on an app to give extra functions to the buttons. That would be your best bet
I am not saying shoulder buttons are a basic feature, but i am saying that choosing what button goes to the next page is a basic feature.
There are tons of different phones out there with facebook button and multimedia buttons. Not to mention camera buttons. Or even the dpads.
Is there no ebook reader app that lets me pick what keys turn the page?

I've tried Cool Reader, FBReader and Aldiko to no avail . The only common feature for Android smartphones are the volume buttons. There are more readers though, like Moon+, Laputa and Mantano.

This has been my solution.
I used it to set both shoulder buttons to volume down.
Hope it helps everyone else.

Do you need to reboot every time you change the mapping or does it work without reboot please. Also if I map sholder buttons to dpUp and dpDown for example and then start a game which has it's own function attached to shoulder buttons, what will be prevailing: my own mapping or the in-game mapping? Thank you in advance.
You have to do a "Hot reboot" to change the buttons. This takes about a minute.
I haven't tried gaming with this settings. I always change the buttons back when i'm done.
Ok something that we are recently finding out, which is a cause for some xperia play owners to have issues with "O" button on their game pad. It seems Stock or so maps the button as "BACK ALT" while some other roms map it as "BUTTON_B"
The "X" button is mapped as "Dpad_center" which also acts as a confirm, or open app button. Again some roms remap this as "Button_A"
Now when its mapped as Center and Back Alt, it means those buttons will be used as another way to open, click or esc/back out of things. Which some games and apps would close out or act up. (Not all apps tho, since alot of devs allow mapping to be different for XP)
While if its mapped as Button_A and B then its a truly separate button for use that doesnt interfere with normal android or app use unless its mapped to use that exact button.
So the question to everyone here. Which do you feel should be the standard for roms and apps? The generic use of confirm and back for X and O or would you rather those buttons not be used for anything other then what you want it for in your app and game.
Cause devs who make their apps have to tell their app to assume that "O" and "X" are "x mapping in the keypad_zeus.kl file" If its not correct then we wind up with people saying "gamepad buttons dont work!"
So XDA, which should be the standard?
Standard mapping for X and O is:
X - Alternate Center Key
O - Alternate Back Key
Altough these buttons have different IDs so they are recognized as totally different buttons - O ≠ normal back key, but acts the same.
No android-related mapping for another keys such as ▲ and ■ BUT L and R are mapped in Timescape app to switch between windows ;-)
Personally I like this mapping. I was a little bit surprised when I realized that X was center and O was back. I thought that it will be different buttons such as A and B (because ■ and ▲ are recognized as X and Y) and I was wrong. But it's always good to operate through android with our dedicated gamepad but I think it should be supported better. F.e. bringing status bar down when you swipe on touchpad down and bringimg it back up when you swipe up. It would be cool ;-)

Yea which seems diff roms have been changing this standard. Since those buttons even as "alt" act the same as normal ones. Seems to be an issue in some apps. While I dont mind keeping it as the official way, it still brings up the questions. =)

Another thing, Mysticales, there are like... 16 different KL files in CM keylayout. There are maybe 5 or 6 in the other ROMS I looked through. There are also three different 304 and 305 entries in the CM keylayout, while only one in the others that I looked at.
So confusing eh?
I like keeping the X button as keypad center, but having the O button as button B. Woo 3rd option
It seems to me that since Sony is the one who created the SEXP, they would know what mapping is correct for it. From everything I can see, BACK ALT and DPAD_CENTER are the mappings they chose, and therefore the right mappings. Why do I say this? Games dev'd for the xperia play are going to be dev'd using those mappings, and not button_a or button_b.

Im with you on this one. =p Too bad I didnt put that as an option. What we need is a rom that has an option to toggle which modes we want.
Hi,
I use the menu key a whole lot more than multi task. How hard would it be to remap the multi task key to act like a menu key? Is it even possible?

If the apps is according to the new ICS look, Holo I think the theme is called, then the menu button is on the top right of the screen.
Seems to me it would be a hassle to press a button on the bottom right and then move youre finger to the top right to actually use the menu.
On apps not yet fitted for ICS I can understand what u mean, however this problem should hopefully be almost gone within not too long.
Would love to remap the useless.most recent programs button to act as a google search button, much like a long press on menu on my s2 does...
There are several threads about this. Here is one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480130
I just got my One X, so haven't tried anything myself.
But being able switch songs with the volume buttons while locked is what I'm looking for.
A must when you're outside in heavy rain or snow.
Don't really know why this app was never mentioned here.
I know it from my Archos 70 times.
To know what it does its best you look in the play store for it, but I want to tell you for what only reason I use it.
You can have shown all buttons you would have as hardware buttons, but that's not the point.
If you use the pro version you can edit and reorder those buttons, and that's what I did.
I choose only one button and that was the menu button, when only one button is mapped it directly uses that instead of expanding than I put the icon to the lowest right corner., and there you have the menu button, now you can use recent apps button like intended without having to map it to long press or something else.
Sure you can do the it with the recent apps button instead, whatever you prefer or use more frequently. Will try it the next days and see if it's practical in daily use.
You can see the button in the picture attached, you can set 3 sizes, for now I try biggest, that's what you see on the pic. I don't think it's interfering in use because it's totally in the corner which u don't use that much.
This way you get the speed of the recent apps button with the comfort of having a menu button
Let me know what you think of it

"Squeeze control" if u know wat I mean. But back to on-topic, u know that u can have recent apps and menu at the same time in one button? Look for it in tweaks.

Yes but only with long press that's to slow and uncomfortable sometimes.
