Return to stock with xtc-clipped phone? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Jcase over at rootzwiki posted a tutorial for going back stock if you used alpharevx. Do I have to do the extra steps of replacing the bootloader or can I just flash the ruu since I used a clip?
*I'm having connection issues (no 3g) so i'm wanting to take it to Verizon and get their input.

there's no way as of right now to s-on from xtc clip. so just flash a stock ruu update to the latest ota and bring it in.

Thanks times_infinity. After backing everything up and going to stock, Verizon tells me that their towers have been messing up. Talk about frustrating.

[Q] Sending Incredible back to Veri.but rooted

I'm sending my Incredible back to Verizon for a new Inc. but I'm rooted with the new update. Want should I do so they don't know I rooted this phone. OK just check my phone I guest when I did the official update it unrooted me. I' still S-OOF. But I got to go back to original stock before I sent the phone back my phone should get to me in 2 days. So I need to put back 2.1 and S-ON.
Have you done unrevoked forever and turned off the S-off, if so you should probably not send it in.
The best thing you can do is look for the stock 2.0 firmware. Also look on YouTube for a unroot video. I have unrooted and re-rooted this phone so it can be done.
Sent from my Rooted Droid Incredible
I'm S-OOF right know. So I should go back to S-ON and try to find 2.0 rom. Where can I find the right programs to this before 2 days.
I'll help you out.
It does NOT matter if you send the phone back with 2.1 or 2.2, they don't care.
They care about two things you need to worry about.
turning it back to S-ON
and having the stock recovery.
to achieve this. You MUST be rooted to do S-OFF or S-ON, so first off get rooted if your not. Then visit unrevoked
the unrevoked3 is for root, unrevoked forever is S-ON, S-OFF.
once you are rooted, follow the instructions to turn it back to S-ON. **(the same exact way you turned it to S-OFF, but using the new S-ON file.)**
Once this is completed now you will have S-ON, but you are still rooted, and have the ClockworkMod recovery. You need to un-root by downgrading using the 2.1 OR 2.2 RUU. your pick and like mentioned above. don't matteh. This will get you to have the stock recovery, and S-ON. Go in that order. Hope you get it. Peace.
If your S-OFF then you are screwed. There is no way to turn it back on. You are SOL man. You can always restore it to factory but the S-OFF will ALWAYS remain

Also your phone has all the programs you need. You just news to put them all in the root of your SD card and reboot into hboot

Unless there has been a break though in getting HTC's and Verizon's super secret security code then I doubt it. The reason its called unrevoked forever is because there is no way to turn it back on. Check other posts in the xda to prove my point. If you return a S-off phone you will void the return and have to pay full price for the new one.

FYI unrevoked forever 1.1 was released last week allowing us to return to s-on.
Also, the reason its called forever is because it forever allows our phones to truly be ours, unlocked and how it should be.

Assuming that to be true why would unrEVoked be offering a package called unrevoked-forever-son?
They SPECIFICALLY provide it in case you need to go BACK TO S-ON....
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can this be removed or undone if I need to take my phone in for service?
A: Download the latest ''S-ON'' tool to a temporary location and follow the installation instructions above to run it. Once your phone is S-ON, you may lose root permanently if you install an official update

Download S-ON file from unrEVOked's website and run that so that you get S-ON back onto the phone.
Then download either the 2.1 or 2.2 RUU (find them in the Android Development Section) and run that and it will wipe the phone and bring it back to factory state.
If it says your phone is not found when using the RUU, try downloading the HTC Sync software for the Incredible and installing that first. You need the drivers for "MY HTC" on the computer for the RUU to recognize it and HTC Sync will install that for you. I had that issue, but remedied it with the HTC Sync software install first.

stock device, can I RUU to older updates?

Here's my question. My friend's brother attempted to root his stock Evo using simpleroot instructions I sent my friend 4-5 months ago (pre-2.2) without knowing that simpleroot isn't supported. His phone is now borked. When he tries to load into bootloader, he gets an error (not sure which one), but his phone will boot into android.
What I'm wondering is this: As of yesterday, his phone was updated and current as per sprint and the update commands in the system menus... Can he flash back to an older stock rom via RUU (such as this one) without causing other problems? If my understanding is correct, the latest sprint updates aren't yet rootable, right?
Any help on this issue?
Thanks

No, you can not run an older ruu. If he updated to today or yesterdays update hes stuck. If he is on HBOOT 2.02 he can flash the 3.30.651.3 ruu or ths 3.70.651.1 but you can not ruu further back.

Yes, they're both rootable.
S-ON vs S-OFF; is just basically a security parameter that's being locked/unlocked. This allows for PC36IMG's files to be flashed via the bootloader without having to use or have authenticated signature keys from Google.
Basically, if you ever accept an OTA and it flashes and removes your recovery (CWM or Amon_RA); then you have no way of flashing custom roms/mods, etc... however with S-OFF, you have the ability to get your recovery back and set yourself back to root if need be.
Essentially, S-OFF allows for another method of flashing stuff to the phone besides just using the CWM or Amon_RA recoveries.
Hboot versions however can affect S-OFF; so it's important that if there is a new OTA that you always hold off, until a developer can validate that the hboot can be exploited and that the OTA can be rooted.

1. 2.02 is rootable 2.10 is not and is the newest one.
2.0 S-ON means you can not flash roms s-off means you can. It is the security of the phone kind of.
If you can not get into bootloader then you can try running the oldest ruu and then the next. It wont hurt the phone at all (I just did it today) it will just give you an error and reboot the phone.

To see if you're S-OFF or S-ON; you can boot your phone into bootloader mode.
To do this:
1. Power down the phone
2. Hold the Volume Down + Power button
3. You'll see a white screen with three little Androids
4. Read the very top of the screen; should tell you if you are S-ON or S-OFF.
You can reboot afterwards.
And yes, you can switch from the S-ON to S-OFF and vise versa, though I don't see why you would want to do the latter.

There actually is a way to downgrade without rooting, all you need to do is flash the mtd-eng.img file to your misc partition as explained in toast's rooting part 2 thread. After you do that it will let you flash any ruu that is compatible with your phone

[Q] S-OFF Forever? Impossible to get S-ON?

So...I wanted to unroot my phone today before the Sprint store closed so I could sell it back to them for the $150.
I was in such a hurry that I just downloaded the latest RUU (4.24) and I flashed it from the bootloader... I completely forgot about S-OFF still being there.
So now I have the latest stock software, but I am still S-OFF instead of S-ON.
Can this be fixed? Or am I screwed?
Does Sprint even care? I guess it depends on the employee.
There is an S-ON tool somewhere on unrevoked's website, but I don't know if that is radio specific, since I've never used it and never will.
Since it is S-OFF, could I flash a custom recovery, then flash a older radio, then flash unrevoked-S-ON.zip, then see what happens?
just sell it...
Why not just sell it on Craigslist? You can probably sell it in a hour or so for $150... or in a day or two for $200!

But yea, totally selling it tomorrow. Now I await S-OFF on the EVO 3D.

Actually you can flash an RUU from the bootloader. They make zip versions of the EXE releases. Which I find alot nicer and easier to use than having to hook it up to my machine.
Ahh, you should trade me first! I have s-on!

Going to the Sprint store tomorrow

To get charging port and home button fixed. I have insurance and my phone is rooted. They have to repair it right? I remember reading on here that rooted phones can be worked on by sprint employees now. True, correct?
Wrong. My friend is a tech at the local Sprint Store and I asked her about that. Her answer was hysterical laughing.
You may want to try and flash a Stock Rom first.
I thought they had to repair them now?
Sorry, you thought wrong.
So should I just unroot and take it in? I don't mind. I think when I took it in last time the rep said he couldnt fix it cuz it was rooted and it was the charging port that tiem too.
You can. I just keep my stock/rooted setup in a Nandroid, in case that ever happens ,so I can roll back to Stock without unrooting. I don't think they'd check for S-off, but you never know
Ill just unroot. I can use djrez's method to unroot if my bootloader doesnt say revolutionary at the top right? I am pretty sure i used unrevoked forever to unroot.

If you used unrevoked then you can just flash s-on & RUU. You may have to downgrade your radio to get the s-on zip to work.
If you're taking it in for a bad usb port, they'll most likely replace it instead of trying to fix it.

If the issue has nothing to do with being rooted, why would it matter? If a phone comes into my service center with software issues that's rooted, then yes it pertains to the issue. Digitizer out? Root has nothing to do with it. I leave it the way it is and repair.

Never perm-rooted it. Didn't even have custom recovery.
