Is there a way to fix apps disappearing after switching phone off, its becoming annoying.

Eh?........
It might be a stupid question question to some, but not all of us are pro's. I searched before I posted my question, but unless there is an easier way to filter through all the results before u get to what u looking for, then a forum like this is pointless. We all here for help or To help.

Post ridiculously vauge questions and you'll get such responses. ;-)

Why is it ridiculous, because u know the answer and dont feel like pointing me in the right direction. If u taking the time to be reply surely u can help.
Thanks anyway.
If anyone else can shed some light, im new to Android, so I dont know all the tricks yet.

Did you come to xda thinking we are mind readers? Shall we all take guesses at what apps you're referring to, or if you're rooted, unlocked your bootloader etc etc etc.
And no, I don't know the answer because I haven't got a bleeding clue what apps go missing, etc etc etc. So instead of taking the hump, try writing a post that might help people, to help you. ;-)

That's fair enough, that being said im new to this forum or any for that matter, it was honest mistake not being clear enough.
How "Vague" as u put it, was ur response. That didn't make it any clearer what info u needed u from me.
As a newbie, my phone is stock, nothings been done to it. The apps are ones that have been moved to memory card.

ok my phone is rooted and I had the same problem and I believe it to be that I have to many apps for a phone that has such little internal memory when that get's low it affects how the phone works over all , and I don't think your question was Vague at all and quite easy to understand to any one who has been using a computer for a long time .

Well don't act like you don't have a clue it souds like your just being lazy every body knows computers get glitchy when the memory is low if this isn't his problem then it's probably something els wich We would then need more details on and Im kinda interested in hearing more about it but I'm pretty sure it's got something to do with memory .

Not sure what that has to do with knowing what FW they're using, if they're rooted, bootloader unlocked or not, all of which if provided in an OP instead of a vague post like "is there a way to fix apps disappearing after switching phone off, its becoming annoying.", helps other users to help them.
If you mean after reboot some apps in the external memory disappear ( I have this problem) then you have to give the device a minute after boot without touching anything then you will notice that all your apps is back again but remmember if you went to the apps drawer immediately after the reboot the apps will diappear again and you might need to reboot again in order to see them (in short be patient) I hope this will help you
just force stop the laucher (settings, applications, manage aplications, all, sony ericsson home, force stop), press the home button and your apps should be there.

Torres77 - is your phone near full ?[/QUOTE]
Actually, no it isnt near full. I dont have too many apps because im mindful of the phones low memory seeing as not all downloaded apps can be moved to external memory.
Will try what some people were kind enough to suggest

I would like to revisit this as I have an OG DROID with Chevy SS 5.6 ROM which uses the Xperia Arc Launcher. Sometimes the app drawer will just lose a bunch of my apps or it will take 5 pages of apps and spread it across 20 pages, some pages only having one app on it. I can manually resort it to alphabetical and the apps will fall in line, but some will go missing. Also, the home screen will lose my widgets however, I cannot put them back because the launcher thinks they are still there even though the space appears blank and open. It does not matter if the apps are stored locally or on the SDCARD. Any help is appreciated.

Hey guys,
I am still very new customizing my touch pro 2. I would like to know how to edit the android start up text. Mostly for the ability to overclock but also I would like to become more familiar with this os.
I have really had issues with my device running on Windows Mobile and would love to keep Android . Any help at all would be much appreciated (even if you make me look like a fool). I love this phone, But I have exchanged it many times due to it being sluggish and totally unusable. If I can't figure this out I will be selling my brand new phone and getting a Nexus One in the hopes that the combination of android and a stupid fast cpu will make me happy.
To all of the people who are working so very hard getting android fully functional. Thank You. Thank you for all your help guys I know your time is better spent not answering my stupid questions. Rich
A few things, you can visit the thread here and read the first 2-3 posts for an overview:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627997
You can also go the the new Portal site Reefermatness put up, there is a section that covers the startup.txt and explains all the various options, including the overclocking.
(FAQ section - way down towards the bottom)
http://sites.google.com/site/androidport/
Thank you
Thanks for your reply. I had searched everywhere and been reading everything.
the only thing i didn't do was actually look at the files android created on my sd card lol.
Found it
So I tried the overclock command and it didn't work ? what could i be doing wrong. Thank you

We need more details. Kinda hard to tell what exactly went wrong w/out details. Lol.
As far as overclocking go, what file manager did u use to make the edits? I found the easiest one to use for editing start up txts is gool ol File Explorer. I had issues using total commander. First, u have to make sure the spacing is right, when u enter in the edit. Its real picky and will trow out the previous or following command line in the txt, if its not spaced right. Plus the edit has to come b4 that phykeyboard command. That's probaly mispelled but u should know what I mean. Then u have to make sure that once ur done with the edit, it stays as a Txt file. Its gonna ask u to save and if u want to save it as a Doc., say No. That keeps it in its original format of startup txt. If u save as a doc. , then it definitely won't wrk.
If u still having issues, juss let me know. Or look a few pages back from the last, on the android rhodium thread. I had uploaded my overclocked startup txt there. All u would have to do is make a copy of ur original unedited startup txt(to hve juss in case), then delete that startup txt in ur andboot folder. Then download my overclocked one in there. It'll overclock u to 787MHz. ;-) make sure to read the notes on it though. So u will know the in and outs of it and what to do if issues arise. Its real easy once u get the hang of it. Try it out..let me know how it goes.

demandarin is right, and just like Johnny-5, we need more input!
It is important the 'set cmdline' line is all on a single line. All the options are listed with a single space between each option, and a double quote starting and ending the complete options list.
In the FAQ, it may appear that this line wraps or is two lines, but that is side-effect of the html page and narrow views/screen resolution.
I do all my editing with a vim editor...
Demandarin,
When I edited my startup.txt I just used file explorer. I put the oc line as the last line before the keyboard entry. It must be my spacing that is giving me problems.
I have looked through a ton of your posts, lol.I cannot find your startup.txt copy anywhere could you post it for me?
Also, I just noticed that when in android I cannot make outgoing calls, is there a fix for that ?
I tried to reply to you yesterday while i was at work using the onscreen keyboard but it kept correcting me with the wrong words how do I turn it off.
sorry for the format of my post I am running late and wanted to get back to you as soon as I could. Thank You

Yeah, u juss have to keep practicing at it. I usually put it somewhere in the middle to be on the safe side. Ill post my startup txt shortly in the main thread, so look for it after u see this post.
As far as ur outgoing calls not wrking, not sure. What device do u have? Is ur internet , incoming, and data wrkn though? If none are wrkn, then u probaly have to manually enter in ur carrier APN settings, which can b found on first page, thru link, of the rhodium android cab thread. Click on the download button. A whole slew of info and troubleshooting tips in there. If ur apn settings already in there, and other stuff wrks, then id say just delete ur data img. In the andboot folder in ur sd card.
You should keep trying the edit though, so u can have it downpacked. I couldn't get it right at first either..lol. tried a million times , kept getting errors. Then I finally got it. U know u got it when ur Android boots up without giving u errors that this or that is not a commandline. Ima boot back into windows now to post that in the rhodium android cab thread for ya.

No, not that I know of or have noticed. The only thing is that if u let the phone go to sleep, in android, it doesn't like to wake up a lot of times. My solution for that is go into Android settings. Then go to display. Scroll down to screen timeout. By default its set to 1 minute. I put it at the max at 30 mins. So the phone won't go to sleep or timeout for at least that long. Everytime the phone is touched, whenever, it resets that timer. I also went into spareparts. Scroll dwn to end button behavior. Change it to "Home" only. Instead of sleep. I get about 6-7hrs off da charger with really, really heavy android use. When I boot into android, I'm on it. Lol. Plus another tip is if u leave it on the charger and use it, it won't fall asleep. Even if u put it to. Its still technically running although the screen is off.
As always, use at own risk. Juss like with any other program or anything u dwnload. I haven't had no problems other than what was stated. To me, the difference in everyday performance is greatly enhanced. The builds work perfectly fine without the overclocking. With the overclocking, it makes everything faster and smoother and a ton less lag. Try it and determine for urself. ;-)

Just got home from work. A little tired and a little drunk lol. thank you so much for your help. I will try to change the startup.txt in the morning when I can focus.
A few questions;
Have you tried the battery fix at all?
I see you have increased your clock speed. how do you like it ? does it still have the sleep problems?
What other things can you change in the startup.txt file?
Thanks and good night.one more beer and its bedtime.
Demandaron,
Dude it totally Works. Thank you. Also I can confirm that setting the sleep mode to 2 works perfectly as a fix for the phone not wanting to wake up.
Edit: So this thing is awesome, everything is faster even web load times.
More questions:
Is there anything else i can use to enter text other than the tapatalk app? It keeps incorrectly correcting my words lol
How can i backup my settings/apps?
Random thing happened. I was using the slide out keyboard and all the sudden my tp2 goes dark like its sleeping (also it was plugged in). I had to pull the battery to get it to boot again.

No problem. I tried to reply to ur pm but I don't think it went thru. Xda havin issues or somethin..lol. I called n left u a voicemail.
As far as backing up ur settings, in Android settings, there's a place to check off backup settings. I'm not sure which one its under. Or if u trying to back up apps or whateva, use Astro explorer or titanium backup.
I think that pmem setting or battery edit for startup txt causes ur device not to charge when on the charger. I've read of that happening with a few people. Dats y I don't use it. 6ve never had my battery die not once while booted in Android.
With the keyboard thing, I think its a manufacturer thing or error. Me and several others noticed, in windows mobile, that if u open the keyboard to fast/hard or let it close too fast/hard..then it'll reboot or whateva. Something about maybe the battery contacts comin off for that split second. A simple fix for that is to wedge a piece of paper in between ur battery and battery cover. So it'll keep the battery pressed down and the power contact stays made. Regardless or keyboard or not. That's what I heard on that issue. I juss make sure to close the keyboard easily instead of letting it slam shut

I need to find a set of apps or an app that turns on/off wifi,3g,Gps

there are actually some apps for that. i think i may have a few. I havent forgot about cha. ima still email you those apps
I've just started getting using the xda-android port. Is there documentation for something a little more complex than what's covered by the key/button assignments. Like how to remove a widget if you decide it's not what you want on a given page?
DO NOT TRY OCLF, if you can not go to factory reset.
I have read almost all the threads answer etc. on many forums, How many people faced the problem and I think I am latest victim after having OCLF, phone doesn't start anymore, does not go in hard reset..nothing just vibration and 2 lights in bottom nothing else.
It just screwed me, OCLF 2.2, with Z4Root , Android 2.2 froyo on SGS....installed and you are gone. still you want it go ahead, feel free....I am angry on myself not on anybody else but I thought, I better write something to save few people at least, opposed to other people who are also bricked and praised the fix to not to stand alone.
Finally I gave phone back, not sure if I get a new one or get same repaired ( in warranty or I have to pay if they can detect that It was me not the hardware or something else...), will post what happens but for now, its not safe, do not go for it and remember there is very thin line between bravery and foolishness. decide yourself.
There are numerous ways to recover your SGS, all you had to do was have a read on here, don't panic and use the search function.
I'm new to all this and i've been in the same position as you and have thought I had bricked my phone at least 5 or more times. But thanks to others on XDA they have same me and my SGS )
sorry but if you dont know what you are doing, why are you doing it?
and btw there are alot of things you can do to recover your phone, even if its totally bricked.
you saying you read all threads etc? i dont think so cuz then you would know what to do.
and OCLF IS SAFE, if you know what you doing and have to do if its going wrong.
ps: if you need help, pm me i will explain you what to do, but only if you have the phone in front of you.
There should be a big banner in the development section which says "Don't try these if you are a n00b and not willing to read and learn before flashing anything!"
That is a thoughtless, misinformed thread title maligning a good developer's excellent work.
Think hard before you post in future........
doc jpy 7.1, jpx, k12i.
OCLF pertains to the Software Level. I see no reason for the Hardware to be affected. You should always be able to go the Download Mode after removing the battery for sometime.
i just say OMG.. i "bricked" (like you) my device about 7-8 times... no problem! i also BRICKED my device 1 time... no problem! don't panic, sgs is very strong! use search function of forum, the problem is not OCLF itself, is a "dead" sd-card (i don't know exactely, i'm a noob) it's a problem connected with the mount of an internal memory, i personally discovered that it might be also connected with a wrong flash of the csc (personal experience!)
Next time (yes it will be) don't panic there's a solution
No panic, just another way of adding some more info for OCLF
Well well well, I am not in panic, I have had galaxy for 5 days only and of-course a new comer for Android, I didn't hesitate for the fix, tried to figure out pros and cons (unfortunately didn't see complains for the problem I had after reboot, until I became the victim) and to be clear not trying to blacken the founder of OCLF with due respect.
Thanks for the fellows offering help, I don't have phone with me as I was not willing to play around with other fixes as I can get it fixed by service center but it would be great if you can blog about it or mention steps here for a problem of a phone stuck on Galaxy screen and can't go in recovery mode and does not connect with odin. what you get is black screen, 2 lightning button in the bottom and vibration when you press any key in bottom or screen.
I was already expecting the several responses and staring eyes but if its safe then why you have so many thread complaining a frozen phone. If this fix is safe then why its removed from Market? (arrg Google norms..but for a good thing and open source system, don''t understand, make it an enhancement, put it already in ROM)
and why OCLF app does not warn, if you have a temp root or permanent root? before making the fix. if its not possible in this context then place info window as it will fail with temp root.
ODIN thing will only work with rooted phone what if its temp rooted and do you want any user to open their phone's mother board for making some soldering to re flash.
Please somebody make a detailed instruction page, if its safe and get proper steps and don'ts list, I won't mind doing it again once I get phone back and keeping fingers crossed that they won't charge me for this out of warranty. Not sure I'll get replacement or repaired one.
Again its not safe until and unless in any case you are ready for using other fixes (which may or may not be applicable for your situation)to fix the phone. There are chances that you loose important data(if not backup). Go for it, if you have enough time and nothing else to do, if it works, good for you, if not don't panic..............
and don;t forget its not your development machine, open in front of you, for free by company, which has corrupted passwd file or something and not booting up....it's your costly new smart phone.
yeah criticize me but its doesn't feel nice when your brick your new phone.
in the end some more things to remember based on my exp for prevention:
1. Back up data
2. make sure you have hard reset option available
3. Root permanent
Please add more if you know. anyways thanks for all the responses.
Tried once to have a bricked phone, my first try actually..
Formated the system by mistake, to high i guess.. LOL..
Non the less, had black-screen ofc, System format, in more than 5 hours, till I tried odin with the org firmware, and brick gone
Sure, thought Sh!!!!!t at first, but then started reading, that was what I've spent the 5 hours on, and 7mins later up and running.. No worries for brick no more
So, think you could have made it your self, instead of returning it, sry
Or maybe you couldn't go into DL mode? I could with formated system?
Just like dhiru1602 wrote, DL mode should be in place, it was on mine like I said

1. You didn't read instructions clearly
2. You created a misleading thread title
3. You are now asking for step by step instructions when there is already numerous guides and answers on how to get your phone going again
4. You now look like a lazy, ignorant and upset kid that broke his new toy because he was too rough with it and now expects to be spoon fed instead of actually learning from his mistake.
5. I am not usually this hard on anybody but I am annoyed by this thread
you're funny. maybe you can discuss why it's so bad with RyanZA himself?

I installed OCLF about 2 weeks ago on my new Froyo install (!!>after reading<!!) and had no problems at all. I used version 1.1 on Eclair and version 2 on Froyo. Ryanza has made a brilliant tool and does not at all deserve to be tainted like this

WHOA!!! The lag is serious on this ICS overhaul/update.....please tell me I'm not the only one. Did a complete factory reset before doing my upgrade so I could have a clean OS install. The lag is serious here.......I need someone to clarify this for me.
BTW CARRIER IQ IS PRESENT!!! UGH!!!
Well its stock, and well let it get settled ...is it overall lag or just like games from my SGH-T989 using XDA
I sure hope so........or perhaps the damn bloatware. BTW it has carrier IQ!
Set the phone down for 10mins w/o doing anything. Its fine for me.

No lag here.
The lag disappeared after a reboot. Interesting how our phones have their own personalities. hmmmm

what that means (I assume you are getting this error message in Kies) is that there is not enough free space on your desktop computer. All you have to do is move some files off your C drive to free up some space. Usually the error message will tell you something about how much free space you need (something like 3000 MB of space needed...etc..).
If you free up some space on your computer it should run just fine.

I think it is just during the initial upgrade. I let me phone do it's thing for about 10 minutes after upgrading and it seemed to clear up the lag. But I "think" I still sense a little bit of lag. It does not feel as smooth as the previous stock ROM.
It also could be that I rooted my previous stock ROM and did not unroot prior to the update, nor did I reset to factory defaults. Not sure if that had any effect on the lag.
laggy yes well for me ot is...and ciq is **** yes tmo "only" use thats info but ciq keeps the resr on their server.all it tajes is one hacker and boom the whold world knows everything u dont want them to know
I had some serious lag after I installed ICS, so I did a factory reset and everything seems to be working ok. ICS doesn't seem to be as fast as GB in going into Landscape mode, but I like the ui improvements.
My problem is "Touch Key Light Duration". Seems to be a problem with the little bit I googled. I can set it the duration to "Always On, but it has a mind of it's own. Somethings will turn off the light; have to go back into the settings to reset the light on.
That's very strange. As soon as I upgraded the performance upgrade became apparent within seconds. I had some lag as it first booted up but its working flawlessly. I read somewhere that the qualcomm chip patch implemented in UVLDE is key in the "smoothness" of ics. Don't know about the validity of such claim but hey, it wouldn't hurt to Odin to uvlde stock and then kies/Odin back to stock ics if your problems arise again

Guys ADW has had a huge update! It has now holo design, ics layouts and damn it is SMOOTH! It also has tablet transition and it's very smooth even in free version. I think this could be the new standard for ics themed gingerbread roms! Try it its impressive!

Oh my goodness. Somebody please, quick, tell me how I can revert to the previous version!
This is a disaster on my phone. Google bar added to home screen (I didn't put it there, I don't want it, it is unremovable!). Takes up vertical real estate, along with the MUCH LARGER dock bar (and I can find no way to make that smaller either...arghhhh).
Those two things have reduced the real estate and jammed the icons together on the screen so the text on many is unreadable.
It is SLOWER than the previous version by far.
PLEASE I beg you; somebody tell me how to revert to the previous version which I LOVED. Do you have the previous version in a format that will allow it to be installed?
I have saved the following files from my dropbox folder:
org.adw.launcher-20120314-212145.tar.gz --only 5.02 KB though ?? Sep 2012
org.adw.launcher-20120314-212145.properties
Jesus Christ! It is perfect. Are you that noobish? Everything is in the settings. I have no google bar and I made the dock smaller from settings.

Well, thank you for the smackdown.
No, not a newbie. No it is not perfect--that is your opinion, not a fact.
Then tell me how to get rid of Google bar; normal means do NOT give you the delete option.
I think you do not have the version I received in the update because there are NUMEROUS comments on Play market and one-star ratings about it. I seriously think you are running the next to current version which WAS nearly perfect (my opinion). The new version is a COMPLETE overhaul, which missed the mark. I believe this because EVERYBODY with the new version has the Google bar.
Mind telling how in settings you made it smaller (I don't mean fewer icons, I mean smaller in height.)
Thanks so much for your willingness to help people.

See atch for pic of home screen.
Why do you even read these boards if you are so high and mighty that if someone knows less than you, you berate them?
I have looked in the settings. In the new version, the options are completely different. What I have said is true. All you can do is complain about me having the audacity to ask for help on a help board.
You are a jerk.
If there is anyone reading who can contribute substantively, I would appreciate your help. I will not answer this jerk any more, so he will have the opportunity to take another low class shot at me, as I will not reply to an idiot.

Oh, just noticed another change, the navigation dots left and right of the dock have disappeared.

I'm just pissed coz the update was so good yet people complain. Anyways I'm gonna answer you're question
You can disable the Google bar in ADW Settings>Screen>Actionbar Design>Disabled
The Dock Icon Size is on ADW Settings>App Dock>Dock icons scale. (If that's what you meant)
Now tell me is that too difficult? Is it difficult to just experiment on the new settings? The developer put a lot of time in updating that app so please appreciate it.
And yes I'm a jerk. Thanks!
---------- Post added at 02:39 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:36 AM ----------
And as for the new update is much slower thingy. Try ADW Settings>System>Advanced Settings>Keep in Memory off, Wallpaper Hack off and Scrolling cache disabled. Also turn off transitions if you want more speed.

Ah, actual help. Now I appreciate that. I had not found the Google bar control because I did not expect it to be labeled 'actionbar.' You are right; it is there and now disabled.
And for the Dock size, I was looking at the options called, ummmm, Dock Size. The 'scale' was off screen and I just flat missed it. See how easy it was just to tell me the answer?
I will now go check the other things mentioned for speed, which is noticeably slower than before.
LATER: OK changed all of those. When I backed out to the desktop screen, it was BLANK for about 5-10 seconds as it had been doing in this version, then populated. i.e., no change. That never happened in the previous version.
Help to find the navigation dots left and right of the dock, to get them back on?
Come on!! Play more with the.launcher!!

Are you from another planet where they don't even know how to talk and thank?
You can't even type the word "Thanks" nor hit the "Thanks" button for sorting out your problem. All i can see from the first is that you can only complain and nothing more. Stay cool and have a bit of courtesy as well. Learn to thank people when you're helped.
You know, you really gotta learn man. Am forcing myself to say this by seeing your messages and rudeness. Not to offend you in anyway but just making it a point.
Wow.
I do appreciate the help--which was finally offered only after smackdowns and replying pointing out that I was being given put downs instead of help. THEN the help came.
For a help forum, this particular thread has been populated with the most uppity people I've seen in a long time. OK, you are smarter than me. Make you feel good? You sure like putting down people who are stumped, when it is so easy for you, and you FAIL to see how someone else is having a problem--and berate them instead of helping.
What kind of place is this, where you are expected to know how to do it before you ask how to do it? That is insane, to say the least.
I do appreciate the help. I do not appreciate the put downs and having to drag it out by posting about the obvious non-responsiveness.
YOU ARE SMARTER. YOU ARE MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE. I am in awe of your ability. I am not in awe of your unwillingness to share it, and am totally puzzled as to why you even read on a help board when you are unwilling to help--except by being cajoled into it.
Lol i think lots of users use the sgsII v10 rom hahaha

XDA isn't a technical support forum .
XDA is for developers , and still will be for developers .
If you can't get that fact right , it's best that you leave .
It'll be a win-win situation for all of us: You can go ask that damn question somewhere else , and we don't have to give a damn ass about you

Yeah but don't developers need mere mortals like ourselves to help test their Roms etc?
Unfortunately this will come with the odd question.
I realise this is just an app and not a Rom. But where's the harm in asking questions?

Hello everyone!
I made a stupid mistake of uninstalling my GO Keyboard app before disabling the input method. So I install the Google Keyboard app. But when I get to the point where I need to change the input method to Google Keyboard, the phone hard reboots, saying XPERIA then the boot animation. I tried everything but no luck.
Any help appreciated,

Yup, fully. I looked for an app like com.android.input to clear cache for, but I didn't find anything.
Typed from the terrible stock keyboard which changes to Chinese every few mins.

Well thanks for the 'help' guys Seriously though you post on this forum no one replies for a day or so and then it is moved down to the bottom of the forum. And this reply thing is buggy as hell thanks for wasting my time and if Sony ever finds me, well screw you, you only take the popular. devices and update them, and leave the other devices to rot in bugs. Thank f***ing you, XDA, it took me 25 minutes to re type this because of your terrible website on mobile, and I can't change my profile picture from a terrible minecraft thingy to something proffessional. And before you people jump in and judge me as a 9 year old minecraft player, I am only pissed off.
Don't rage and factory reset.
