The Motorola Bluetooth ones work.

I would expect bluetooth to work. The interface is entirely different.
I guess I was just spoiled with the setup that came with my Nokia N97. The wired headset allowed you to use whichever 3.5mm jack headphones you wanted, and had controls for volume, next & previous, pause/play, stop, and phone answer/hangup. Plus a lockout switch, microphone, and antenna for FM radio with RDS. When I tried it on the Captivate, I had sound, but it was very hollow and about half as loud.
I also learned that when you unplug the headphones, the music automatically pauses and the virtual 5.1 surround, if enabled, is disabled and has to be selected again after connecting the headphones.
I do like the design of the stock Captivate wired headset, but the low end frequency response just isn't there. Seems like anything below 150hz is inaudible. I'm still using the earbuds that came with my Pioneer Inno portable XM radio and they're my reference by which I judge all other earbuds. I'm not sure what company made them (maybe Pioneer?) but they are the best ones I've used yet. Granted, I haven't tried anything from Shure, Bose, or the like.
I've been using my Ultimate Ears TF10vi, and the play/plause button works just fine but they have no volume control, so can't comment on that specifically.
I also haven't tried to use the mic yet, so I don't know if that works or not - I heard the Galaxy S had some weird issue with the wiring that made it incompatible, but haven't tested with the Captivate.
I am very surprised that the ones provided by Samsung didn't provide a volume control..
I am too. The volume rocker still works while playing and the screen is locked.

Tested my iPhone's headphone... only play/pause works and I was surprised it did!
Does anyone think the Skullcandy 50/50 earphones would work?
I have skull candy and no go on the volume control. I think it's just not supported.

All buttons work, and the sound is actually good.
Looking at them i was like "" then I was "" after seeing the price.
I figured what the heck and got them, figuring i could return them.
After using them for awhile, I give them "".
If you have a big head, these probably will not be what you want.
I am in no way a fan of the box club, but the price is right.
I've been using my wife's that came with her HTC Aria and they have play/pause and forward and backward buttons on them and none of them work.
On a side note, I hate the in-ear headphones, anybody know of a good pair that sit on the outside of your ear, like the old iphone ones?

The stock Blackberry headphones work. No volume control on them. Just one button. It works for calls and music and it's not in-ear.
Here it is on the Android Central store. Nevermind... Can't post links yet apparently. Go to the Android Central store and click on the Captivate and take a look at the headsets.
I've owned this BT earpiece with other HTC devices. Haven't had any problems with it. I also have used a 925 discovery with my EVO. Worked fine.
I was upgraded to 975 discovery by Best Buy. I always hear a buzzing noise in the background. Sometimes the audio quality gets scratchy or distorted. One time while using it, it sounded like I was on a horrible voip connection and i could hear only ever other word. I put it on speaker phone and the quality was perfect. I also own a Motorola S9-HD. I don't have any problems with it.
Does anyone else own this headset? I'm curious.... Are you having simliar issues?
I have this head set
make sure WiFi is OFF is you are using BT. I get what I think you are describing only when WiFi is on.
I have the same headset. I have the same symptoms when my body is in between the headset and phone. If there's a line of sight between them, the audio is perfect... I'm on my second 975 (lost the first one), and it still does it. I'm not sure if my phones bluetooth is messed up or the headset.
I have had this headset for a long time. I just switched to the EVO from the Iphone, and the 975 worked flawlessly on the Iphone. It SUCKS with the EVO so far. It will not stay paired. I can press the button to answer, but the no audio on the phone or BT. It will redial, but the audio comes out of the phone! Is there a better BT to use with the EVO?
Hi. Few weeks ago i bought the Motorola S305 and i never get the Stereo or "high quality" sound. My phone is Unrooted. I havent tried on another phone to check if the headphones are ok, but there are a lot of bad comments about the bluetooth on the Evo so i believe that maybe its the phone.

I get the same buzz too. It is like a real low hum. Only when I talk to certain people though.

Same Bluetooth same issue. When I don't hear the buzz I sometimes think the call has dropped. Had the same noise with my palm pre. Must be the Bluetooth.

Are headphones w/ in-line mic compatible with the EVO?
I'm not big on Bluetooth pieces and was wondering.....
Thanks.
I have a pair of skullcandy fmj's and they work...

NO, DON'T! IF YOU TRY TO USE THEM THEY WILL EXPLODE IN UR EARS!
But seriously, they will work fine. If they have an inline button it will even control your media apps.
If it works with an iOS device or Blackberry, and is the standard headphone jack (ie, not a headset jack) size, then it'll work.
</thread>
Yes they will work (using it now)but test them before buying as apple has started putting drm chip in some of them making it so you can't use mic /button on non apple hardware (I found that's true in some non apple brand ones too) and had a pair that didn't work with mine

i bought a pair of the klipsch s4i headphones. the play/pause button works, but not the volume up down buttons. the headphones rock, though. and, the mic on them works fine and dandy. i'd give 4/5 stars (only taking one off for the aforementioned volume up down problems) for the evo. they're designed for iphone, is why some button incompatibility.
they sound great though. i love them.
+1 on the Skullcandy fmj's, probably one the better sets of headphones I've used. Wear them all them while on my bike, great sound, blocks some of the sound of my loud pipes. I'd highly recommend them.

I use Zagg Smartbuds w/o any problem.

I think that the Evo just doesn't have any support for volume up/down. The mic and play/pause button are non-Apple standards (they existed before the iPhone was announced) but AFAIK the volume control is Apple specific.
I'm perfectly fine with the fact that my HTC provided headphones haven't worked, since I've rooted, but I was wondering why exactly it is that the mic stops working?
I can hear sound on them fine, even in phonecalls, but the mic just died. Is it an HTC thing? I've just always been curious.
Very cheap headset. Mine ripped apart just by dropping phone in pocket while connected.
Someone needs to make a phone that comes with quality headphones

Rooting doesn't change anything but permissions on the phone. As indicated above, its probably just a hardware failure of the headset. Try another headset.
I was testing the phones speaker last night by playing a bit of a song and maybe i'm just overreacting but I don't feel my phone is as loud Any more so does using the phones speaker at high volume decrease the phones volume?

To get the full power of external speaker, you need to have a dock station for E4GT. What I mean is something like Samsung car holder for E4GT. It has the usb connect port and speaker jack. Connect your external speaker thru this jack and turn on the settings > System > Dock > use external speaker option.
When you connect your external speaker jack to your phone's jack, the sound quality is not good because the output power is not enough to support the external speaker. Also sound quality is not good because it's amplifying the low signal to external speaker.
If the sound quality is important, using dock station would be the best way and don't use the speaker jack on the phone. Use the speaker jack on the phone adapter.
Im taking about the speaker on the phone.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
It's upto you. What I tried to talk about was, who's talking the amplifying task.
1. Car dock - both phone and speaker
2. Phone speaker - nothing
3. Phone jack to external speaker - external speaker
Im so confused. Im not using a dock or anything just the phones speaker

Sorry for that. The information above was just related to listen clear music. Never mind about the dock station.
Going back to your topic, it's not clear - which one is which from the volume control in settings.
The easiest way to control all kind of volume is by installing the volume control app.
There is one app can be used to control on-call volume, speaker phone volume, almost everything. Check this link -
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5jYi52b2x1bWVQbHVzIl0.
Not my question either.

Yes, listening to music on high gain *for an extended amount of time* will eventually bend and extenuate the speaker cone or produce small imperfections and tears, but it should not happen from one song.
One possible answer is a defective speaker. Also not all music is going to play at the same levels, due to the differing encoding types and qualities of files.
A repair store can replace just your speaker, I did it many times a day. It never hurts to go have it looked at.

Doesnt music automatically play from the phones speaker anyway? Not like its coming from the earpiece

Yes. That is the basic premise of a speaker. What did this have to do with the conversation?
