Obviously worse with the USB charging. Barely charging at all that way, in fact. But even with the wall charging, it is very very slow -- anyone else having this problem? Any known fixes?
Yes I agree it is slow... Very slow.
My Photon was very fast charging up, it was incredible.

Guys... The original epic charges super slow. The epic touch 4g charges way faster than the original epic even with a bigger battery.

Samsung smartphones are generally slow charging. My Nexus S 4g takes 4 to 6 hours to charge. Head on over to Samsung Galaxy S2 forum and you will hear the same complaints. Previous models, and I think Epic Touch are too, built to limit charge rate to 650 ma max. It may limit the charge rate even further if the phone is being used while charging.
This was the info I was able to dig up while researching the cause of my slow charging Nexus S.
Photon charged about 5x faster than my epic... So gs2 should be slower than photon..

Isn't the charging rate partially a function of the kernel? I could swear that one of the devs at SDX tweaked a kernel for the Moment, and one of his tweaks was "Increased power draw from USB for quicker charging."

Yes, but IIRC no one was successful at manipulating for the OG epic, not sure if it was galaxy related or not. Hopefully we'll have a dev who can make it happen on this device.

What bigger tank? The Evo 3d is about the same capacity battery and recharges about twice as fast. Same goes for the Motorola Atrix.

I thought that the 3D had a 1730 mAh battery?
Not that its a huge difference, of course...
Wouldn't charging it slower allow the battery to last longer? I don't mean like longer as in on one charge, I mean like as in years. Batteries have a tendency to go bad after a few years of use and can't be charged the same way after a while. But afaik with smaller Ma being used, its supposed to delay the aging effect of the batteries.
My Epic 4G and now the Touch always have charged slowly. To combat this, I use my old Palm Pre charger dongle (the part the plugs into the wall) and connect the Epic's USB cord to it and things speed up a bunch. I'm not sure if I'm damaging my batteries, but I have done that for a year on my OG Epic and haven't noticed any battery deterioration. I also purchased a fast charger for the car and it does the same thing--very speedy. So I don't think that it's the phone or the cable or the OS, but rather the actual plug. So you might go and look for a replacement plug from another phone or a a generic one and use that to charge. It has worked well for me.
That's rediculous it shouldn't take more than 3 hours for a complete charge and 6 hours for a partial charge makes the device useless this isn't the 70'a
If you let the battery drain all the way, I'll get a full charge in about 2.5 hours. If you keep plugging in during the day, charging will then be very very slow.
My experience anyway.

i actually brought the i.sound portable 16,000 mah battery. it's not as compact as the enercell but this thing is so worth it. 5 usb ports, can even charge iPad. so far it charges my standard battery from 0% to full in 4 hours. i've used it for 3 full charges and still have more than 50% juice left.

Most of the time the touch screen is unresponsive and erratic.
Unplugging from it cures it instantly.
I ordered the HTC factory charger as a result to have one at home and office.
I only use aftermarket chargers, and I think it has more to do with the kernel than the charger itself. I have experienced this issue with Iso's and adrenelyn's but they charge faster. Ziggy I've had no issues with using the phone while charging and ziggy's kernel packs the biggest quadrant and linpack punch but not so great on the battery. A little off topic but fyi, because I have been playing around with this.
P.S. Really the best thing that works for me is to just to swap batteries in the evening time and if you are streaming something then again before bed time. Its like $12 with shipping for 2 1500mah rip off batteries that aren't as good as stock but more than enough to get you through the day.

Is it normal for the charge to charge up extremely fast. I'm using Francos kernel 11 on gummy rom.

Those with a Verizon Galaxy Nexus, can you look at your charger and see what the output is?
Some of us GSM users got some generic Samsung one, so might not be optimized for the Galaxy Nexus.
So is it 5V, 2.1Amps or what? I've been using my iPad2/Touchpad/Transformer charger with my GSM version and it charges super fast cuz of the high amps.
It charges much quicker that my Galaxy S with a bigger battery on the same charger (the one from the Galaxy S, 700mA). Seems they made charging much more efficient in the Galaxy Nexus.

I don't think a bigger amp charger charges faster. I think the nexus is limited to 1A. I've tried a bc 1.1 compliant usb hub which allows charging of one device at 1.5a and I noticed no difference mentioning. But yeah, using a 1amp charger charges nexus ridiculously fast.

5V 1A is the standard for US wall chargers. My HTC ones, Belkin & Kingston ones are all that way also.

I installed Battery Monitor (a few bucks on the market), among many features, it shows the actual charging and discharging rate. On average my GNex charges at 1200+ mA per hour without use and discharges on idle between 2mA-350mA per hour screen off depending on background processes. I have the 2100 mA battery and average 2hrs for 15%+- to 100%. The stock charger is definitely fast with an exceptional charge rate averaging well over 1Amp per hour when uninterrupted.
**Edit: when charging & using the device I average 650 mA charge rate. Still respectable.

My GSM one charges full in at least an hour or two. And NEVER FREAKING DIES. This is the first phone ever that i can charge fully and let it go a full day into the next day and i know it will still be alive. I remember i let it stay alive for two days straight. only reason why it only lasted only 1 day, 2hs and 35mins this time was because i flashed a different rom. Only had the phone for a full week including today. Been reading alot about this franco dev. Does every rom currently use his kernel? Just flashed gummynex and i don't know if its running his kernel or not. A little off topic i know but its still pertaining to battery

Many people use the Touch battery without problems, on the contrary I hear tons of third party battery horror stories. I'm more ok with a snug fit than a broken phone or inaccurate power ratings. I'm glad you've had good results with yours though.

I've been using Third Party batteries for my current (Epic) and previous smartphone (ppc6800), without any issue so far. Knock on wood. Only downside has been that they don't last as long as OEM batteries. But, since they are slim, I keep them in my pocket, laptop bag, and never worry about battery during a day. Wimax Radio is always on, Bluetooth is always on, Screen is mostly at 100% brightness, I just swap batteries when needed. I mainly use my aftermarket batteries on a daily basis, and save the OEMs for infrequent use to minimize cycling. Though, at over 2 years old now, even the lightly cycled OEM battery is short on life.
My next battery will be the 1800 mah Epic Touch battery
Trying to reduce clutter and use less outlets on my desk at home, I have a GT 10.1 and the E4GT and was wondering if it was safe to use the brick from the 10.1 with my micro usb charging cable for the E4GT.
I know they have different amps, the GT is rated higher, so it should charge the E4GT faster. Just not sure if this is safe.
I know for Blackberry's you can buy the rapid playbook charger and use it on the phones for a faster charge. Now that I think about it, I have used that Playbook quick charger with my E4GT. It works fine but I just hope I am not damaging my battery.

Well, you can charge it faster but i will over time reduce the battery life. coming from an electrical back round, The best thing for the battery is bring it up on a slow charge. Lessens the chance of burning/shorting out a cell. L-Ion batteries are great for not having a memory like Ni-Cad or Ni-MH. So i frequently throw my phone on the stock charger a few times thru out the day. I would recommend you stick with your stock charger as it was ment for that battery. hope this helps.

Thanks, I did not realize that a fast charge can harm the lithium batteries. On a side note, lithium batteries can only be charged a certain amount of times correct? So if you charge your battery say four times a day, you have used up four charge times/cycles?
Thanks
A sprint tech told me that our phones have a built-in safety, and will not engage in charging the battery or damage it in any way if the amperage is incompatible on the charger.
Beware: this information came from a sprint rep over the phone, and I wouldn't even begin to know how to verify it.
Yes they are limited to certain amount of times they can be charged. I'd have to look it up again why tho.
