Epic Touch won't charge? Bad wall charger - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Plugged in my Epic Touch to charge today and it wouldn't charge. Used a few different cords, and different outlets. Then tried my HP touchpad charger and it worked. Looks like I got a bad wall charger. Although, it was working last night. Anybody else?
Now that I've tested it some more, it's just REALLY finniky about being plugged in. It has to be plugged in at the perfect depth, somewhat at an angle even. Anyone else notice this? Bad charger?
Got my phone through Wirefly... surely I won't have to return the whole phone just to have this replaced?

I wouldn't even bother assuming i had another charger. The block Samsung charger looks just like the Hong Kong ones from ebay that you can buy for 3.99 each.

Well this one is supposed to be "super duper fast charger" so what kind of numbers (ohms/amps/jiggabats) am I supposed to look for when buying a new one. I know last night I had it on my old Epic charger and it took over 4 hours to charge to 100% from 82%.
Also, I know it's been mentioned before, but this thing is UNUSABLE when it's plugged in to charge. at least with the stock charger.

My samsung charger makes the phones touch sensitivity go thru the roof. Opens applications and menu's and carries out commands and such. It also creates lag switching between screens. Not an issue when I have my HTC Evo charger hooked up to it though. I'm just exchanging the whole phone and charger combo to be safe.

Really? I haven't even opened my stock charger and cable because I have so many others but I'm using a wall charger only with a Sprint label on it (got it doing some phone trading along the way) and the phone flies just like it does not on the charger.

The one that comes on the box gives the phone the major blues while charging
sent from my damn EPIC TOUCH 4G!!!!

This is horrible news ... my epic charger is half broken..

Using a HTC charger and it works flawless I wont even try to use the Sammy ones especially for DLing roms or for odin

Alas my sammy charger does not work either. I walked in to BB and they handed me a usb charging block branded HTC, since they didnt have any epics left.

Yes but what about speed of charge? The stock charger is supposed to be a quick charger.

Like I said in an earlier post, I haven't even opened the stock charger...so you can't use the phone with it charging with the stock..its that bad?

Touch screen extremely unresponsive when charging

So when the unresponsive screen when grounded issue came about, I didn't really notice the problem much myself. However, recently, and I'm not sure when this started, the screen has become horribly unresponsive when charging any time! Doesn't matter if it's on desk, in my hand, stock charger, 3rd party charger, etc., if it's charging at all, the touch screen only accepts half or less of my inputs, making typing impossible. Is this due to the last software update? Anyone else experience this issue? I would exchange the phone, but not if it's not going to help anything.
this happens to me when i use my cheap ebay charger
The fps lifting kernels fix this.
+1 for symtoms seen when using a wonky charger/cable.
+1 due to cheap charger - anyone know why this happens? is the OEM usb cable different spec from the cheap ones?
Hate to beat a dead horse, but the same happens when I plug my phone into the charger I got from eBay. Kind of disappointing, considering that I would otherwise be able to charge two batteries at the same time.
I notice this issue with the stock charger.
I believe the issue was when its not grounded..
Being plugged in is just about the most grounded your phone can get.
That's not the problem.
Starting to do it to me also now.
Just to be clear, this happens to me with the STOCK charger.

I'm having the same issue. i just chocked it up to the new kernel.
one thing i did notice is it seems to be intermittent. Yesterday night, it worked fine. this morning(conveniently when my alarm went off) i could NOT get the dismiss thingy to slide down.
Anyone else experiencing this? I do think it got worse after last software update. Would be nice if the next one improved things.
I emailed support, they did not say anything about it being a known issue, and suggested a factory reset. If that doesn't help, they recommended using my warranty. Would like to hear from more people before going through with the reset.
It happens to me when charging via outlet. Charging via USB connected to computer does not produce the issue.
I think it has to do with grounding.
Same thing happens to me! I noticed it with my aftermarket wall charger.
Bringing this back up, happens to me with a Stock charger.
Is it really the kernel? :\
@Person who said charging is the most grounded, the stock charger is not grounded ( in AU anyway ) and therefore it is the LEAST grounded.
ive noticed this happening over the past month or so. i've got to admit i've only really noticed this when its plugged into a usb cord i got off ebay. relieving to think it might only be an issue with it being a cheap cable and not the phone but i'll verify tonight with the stock cable.
I've been plagued by this problem for weeks and just discovered that it only happens when charging. I use the stock charging cable and wall adapter. I'm very, very happy to know what the problem is. I'm going to start testing this at various locations.
EDIT: I've tried this on both the wall adapter at work and on my work computer's usb. Same problem, though it seems worse when plugged into the wall outlet.
The touchscreen is fine on my sprint brand car charger and on the usb charger on my laptop. However, it starts missing taps when I plug my usb cable into my usb car charger. I'm going to best buy tonight to buy a different charger and see if that helps.
Sent from my Virus Infected Evo using the XDA app.
I have these issues as well with the stock charger and cable regardless of which kernel I use.

Motorola OEM chargers only?

Last night, I decided to use my HD2 charger, since it was already in my drawer. Charged it around midnight and woke up around 4 and it only charged 10% So I decided to use the Motorola charger, and when I woke up around 6 it was fully charged in less than 2 hours. So my question is, are we only suppose to be using the charger that came w/ it or is my outlet possessed
The actual cable doesn't matter, but the charging port seems to. My phone doesn't charge as well when hooked up to my HTC Aria's usb charge vs. the one that came with my Atrix or even the old Motorola Z9 charger I have (like this one since it's longer than my USB cable and it reaches my bed so I can do "Sleep as a Droid"
I tried using my Nexus charger last night and the phone didn't like it at all. It started FC'ing all over the place and I had to reboot it. The voltage on both chargers are the same. For a moment I thought I f'd it up but it's been fine all day.
I'm using Blackberry's micro usb chargers with no problem. I bought a few of these for my N1, and they work fine with the Atrix. The N1 charger from Google/HTC does not work like you all have said.

Check the amp output of the charger, a good one will be at 1amp, where most are around 500ma or less.
If you're having charging issues, it's probably because the charger isn't supplying the required 800ma draw. Most USB power adapters still only output 500ma max. Be sure your 3rd party charger can output 800ma or more. For example the Apple USB adapters can output anywhere from 1000ma to 2000ma and they work great charging the Atrix.
Hope this helps!

Yep to both. I tried my N1 charger last night, and the Atrix wasn't having it. Tried my BB charger at work and it charged up quickly. It's weird. On the plus side, a second usb cable is only 6 bucks from at&t ... which is fair.

The Atrix must be a little charge sensitive (maybe it has a rapid charge mode or something). We have at our counter a surge protector that also has two built in USB ports for charging. We've charged our iPhone 4 and my Captivate at the same time for months.
When I plugged in the Atrix, it starting chirping (like switching the charge mode on/off/on/off) and the iP4 _also_ started flipping out (again, like the power was being interrupted).
I wound up plugging into the same surge protector, but used a regular AC outlet and the supplied USB>>AC adapter. Everything ran/charged just fine.
Mine seems to freeze up and force close often whenever I charge it with my blackberry cord. The same cord had been charging my Backflip fine for months.
Need the Amp rating
I don't have an Atrix yet (I will soon).
The Blackberry charger that I have puts out 700mA.
But I have tried to use other micro USB chargers with the BlackBerry (BB) and if the charger does not put out the right amps, the BB keeps flipping into/out of clock mode. If you then plug in a BB charger....works great.
A USB-Port is only supposed to deliver 500mA by norm.
So, to charge the phone it hast to be >=500mA.
That explains why the Atrix charges really slow hooked up to a PC, since the battery is ~1900mA/h
You do the math
I'm using a Samsung wall charger right now with no problems.
Has anyone tried using an apple charger/aftermarket apple chager on their Atrix yet? I have an incase combo charger that can feed 2 amps (necessary for the ipad) and I'm worried it might cook something.

Yeah I use a cheap generic CELLNET wall charger and works perfect no problems

[Q] Screen Freak-out

I've had the phone since Monday. Last night, now that we have a stock kernel, I went ahead and rooted my phone.
Today, on three occasions (requiring reboot) my phone had what I can only describe as a touchscreen freak-out. The image twitches and jumps around even when not being touched. When it is touched, it's entirely unusable. Apps not even close to your finger open and close with a quickness. I've already sent a few very fun swype text messages, as you might imagine.
I migrated from the OG Epic and never had any issue like this. Lack of responsiveness when dirty, but not total madness. Has anyone else had anything like this happen? Is it just a matter of needing to get a new phone?
Thanks for any advice!

Happened to me today too. It was the OEM HTC EVO 4g charger causing it.

So this is a known issue? I hadn't seen it mentioned before.
It's a known issue. Some people claim to have good results with a different cable, some with a different charger. One theory is that the wall charger is over-rated and that extra juice is making it go wonky. USB charging doesn't seem to be affected by it. The effect seems to decrease the closer to 100% charge you get. It's a known problem on a wide variety of devices from a wide variety of manufacturers and aside from your cable and/or charger your own local power may have something to do with it. A software update can fix it as it has in the past on a wide variety of devices. Not everyone has this problem all the time. YMMV
I would suggest buying an OEM blackberry charger from Amazon for like 7 bucks. That's what I used on my epic and what I'm using now on my epic touch. The charger that came with this phone is still sitting in the box.

Extremely slow charging with micro USB 2.0

This weekend I manged to leave my included Note III Micro USB B 3.0 charger at a friends. I didn't think it was a big deal because I knew I had plenty of micro USB 2.0 Cables I could use in the meantime as they are supposedly backwards compatible.
I was home watching football for most of the day yesterday. The phone charged all day yesterday but I don't remember it ever getting as high as 45%. I didn't get worried until last night when I looked closely and realized the percentage was declining as I used and charged it.
When I went to sleep at about 12:30am I was at 9%. My WiFi and 4Glte were both off and I wok up at 5:30 am to find my phone at 63% only after 5 hours. This is the same charger I used with my Samsung Galaxy S3 just over a week ago til I got this. Why isn't it charging. I'm afraid I'm harming my battery somehow. That's why I'm writing this at 5:45 am instead of sleeping. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
P.S. In the 10 minutes it's taken me to write out this thread my battery has declined to 62. (Still on charger)

I had a usb2.0 cable plugged in in my car and I went skiing and streamed music and did the same while plugged in on the way home. I don't know if the cable just slowed battery usage or not but it was plugged in for 2 hours on the way home and I still lost like 5% while plugged in. I bought a USB3.0 cable off Amazon and it works well in my car, not as fast as plugged in to the wall charger but much better than 2.0

I understand that 3.0 will be faster but this is horrendous. It's now 8 hours since I plugged it in and I'm at 74%. And it's plugged in to a wall adapter not a computer or car. Haven't even had this phone for two weeks. Samsung you're killing me here.

It's not, at least, not from a wall charger that follows the specs. USB3 will charge faster from a computer with the drivers set up properly, but the stock wall plug is 2A (max), all the time. If you get better charging from a USB3 cable, your USB2 cable is probably using really thin wires or just is wearing out.
Some generic chargers are all over the place. Some don't short the data lines so the phone doesn't know if it should be able to fast-charge. Some don't actually put out the current they are rated for.
IF you use the charger the phone came with, and a GOOD USB2/3 cable, it will charge properly. If its not, you have something wrong in your setup. I use the charger that came with the N3 (and the N2), and a Nook or a Monoprice.com USB2 cable. Nice fast charging. I have never used the USB3 cable as I prefer to be able to charge other devices from the same cable and I don't own any USB3 computers.
I also get good charge speed from an older HTC 1A charger. Not as fast, but faster than I expected to get. Note that's a charger that came with a G2 and G2x, not some ebay crap. That's not to say that generic ebay chargers can't be good chargers, just that many of them aren't. If in doubt, use all OEM stuff, at least for testing.
What's probably happening for most people having slow charging on older and/or generic charging setups is one of these...
1) The charger doesn't short the data pins so the phone thinks it's connected to a computer USB and limits charge current to 500mA.
2) The charger doesn't output what the writing on the side claims, and the phone detects this, so it limits itself to charging as best it can.
3) The USB cable uses small, cheap wires and creates too much voltage drop, causing the phone to limit its charge rate.
4) Connector wear is causing voltage drops due to a bad connection. Try a new cable. Not a different cable, a NEW cable.
5) Your Note3 is defective and needs to be replaced. This isn't real likely, but damage to the USB port could cause it.
The Note wants a lot more current than older devices. It also has a system to detect issues that older phones didn't have. I think the first I saw with it was the N2. The phone detects voltage fluctuations under load and adjusts its current draw to keep the voltage as steady as it can. This makes the device more picky about having a good charger and cable. That can be a pain, but it also prevents overloading the charger, which could be something expensive like a computer, which prevents damage. Note that this doesn't harm the battery, it just won't charge as fast as you might like. At 500mA, it's actually possible for the phone to use more than that, so your charge will go down while plugged in. That's not going to hurt anything, it's just how it is.
For the OP: Try a decent wall charger. If you don't have anything better, you'll have to turn the Note OFF while charging. That should at least get your battery charged overnight. If it's a long cable, try a shorter one, that can make a difference. Or try to find a thicker cable, but that's not always a guarantee the wires inside are any thicker.

Slow Charging

When I plug in my power adapter to charge the tablet more often now I get the Slow Charging notification that says battery is charging slowly due to low electric current of TA/USB connection. Any one else seeing this? I am using the stock charger supplied with the tablet. I have tried this on several AC outlets in several different locations. It does not seen to affect the ability to charge the tablet it just charges it a little slower.

You might also try a different cord!
You may try to install "battery monitor widget", it will tell you charging in USB mode or AC mode.
I also find the stock LG charger slow charging, the widget shows I'm only charging at around 1100mA max. While the charger itself label said Output 1.8A max. I can't reach this level yet.
If I charge with a stock nexus 7 charger (which is 2A rated), it'll get worse...just reach around 800mA max.
I'm still not sure what's wrong with the charger or the tablet itself...
I can say that the cable that came with the gpad does charge faster than a thinner cable I had. Both were tested plugged into the stock LG charger.
Sent from my LG-V500 using XDA Premium HD app
When I pulled my g pad out of the box and saw the stock charger was below 2A I put it back in the box. I charge my tablet with the 2A charger that my note 2 uses.
I've seen this problem intermittently with the stock LG charger and today it seems to have become a permanent fault. Swapping to my Note 3 charger things are back to normal once more. Swapping back and forth repeatedly the LG charger triggers the warning and the Note charger is fine. It looks like the LG charger is a bit rubbish. I'll press for a warranty replacement.
I have noticed mine recharges really slowly as well. Using the stock charger, and the battery app previously mentioned, it gives me about 1.1A from the stock charger. Using my Vita charger rated at 1.5A I get about 1.4 into the G Pad. It seems their charger just stinks.
I sent them a support query to see if they will replace it without hassle, if they want me to send it back I'll just buy something else instead.
Edit: Heard back from LG, they want me to send the whole thing back to them or return it to Newegg. Not sure why they won't just ship me a replacement charger, it would be much cheaper for them in the long run.

Further investigation revealed the original cable to be at fault, as it would not make a data connection with either of my laptops. Another cable from my old Galaxy Note worked perfectly. Even so there is still a question mark about the charger as well. Today I spoke to an LG support rep who promised to send a new charger and cable. They should arrive within five working days. I had read of mixed opinions on LG's support, but so far it all seems encouraging.
