MOD EDIT: STOP! THIS IS OLD AND DOES NOT WORK AND MAY BORK YOUR DEVICE. THIS IS NO LONGER RELEVANT.
Here's how to root your Epic 4G Touch:
Video Tutorial:
So, I finally got everything working today 3G/4G/Voice/Hauptic/Wifi, we have full root for the Epic 4G Touch!
Huge thanks to users ShabbyPenquin and Tanimn at ACS, I wouldn't have gotten this working without them.
*Note - This rooted kernel is still experimental, we are not responsible for anything that happens to your phone! You can always flash Bubby's stock kernel here after flashing Zedo Root to get back to stock with root or even bring your phone back to completely stock like day one. wootwoot
Here's how to root Epic 4G Touch:
This is for Windows ONLY, for Mac or Linux rooting, please see this thread!!!
Download rooting files here and unzip:
Download epic4gtouchrootv1.zip
Put your Epic 4G into download mode by holding down Power button and Volume down buttton, when you see an option screen, let go of both buttons then hit Volume up button.

You should now be in download mode, connect your USB cable from Epic 4G Touch to a Windows computer. (Sorry ODIN uses Windows only...)
Make sure you have Samsung Kies installed, it will install the proper drivers,
Download kies off samsung site here:
http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/m...softwaremanual.do?page=MOBILE.SOFTWARE.MANUAL
Open up odin3 v1.85.exe, click on "PDA", then select "SPH-D710_Zedomax_Kernel.tar" and hit Start.
Your phone should reboot and voila, your phone should be rooted with SuperUser app.

Having issues with voice and data?
Most likely not from the kernel but you just need to do an MSL update, see video tutorial here. This one is for Evo 3D, u will need to use this method to read MSL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17703908&postcount=11
***Try out some ROMs***
The best two ROMs for Epic 4G Touch right now:
Starburst ROM for Epic 4G Touch by PhantamHacker - I highly recommend Starburst ROM, I have it on my Tab 10.1, it rocks, faster/better/stock/overclock.
MIDnight ROm for Epic 4G Touch by pftdmedic rocks!
And if u need Arabic support, see here.

GOT ROOT!
NOTE: I will be posting full step-by-step instructions on how to compile your kernel and what I've learned, this is my first root! Still can't believe it. Coming soon at AndroidKernels.com so you don't have to decompile my code.
For those of you who want better battery life/performance/overclocking, flash this Zedomax Epic Touch Kernel instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269437
The first day of root STUFF*******************************************************************************
UPDATE 9/18/2011: 6PM PST, FULL ROOT ACHIEVED, WIFI/VOICE/3G/4G WORKING!!! Instructions coming soon, Zedomax Kernel is here!!! (My first ever kernel rooted, huge thanks to tanimn and ShabbyPenquin, I took some of their work and found a way to get wifi working.)
UPDATE 9/17/2011: Voice CDMA, capacitative buttons, usb, sdcard working now:
UPDATE 9/16/2011:
Working on it, worked on it all day long, if I can just figure out how to get Samsung open source kernel to actually work, we should have a fully rooted Epic Touch 4G soon...
Working on it, will update this thread when I have everything working in order.
And thanks to everyone tried to help me earlier with the config files.
UPDATE2: I just got a replacement from Sprint!
UPDATE1: I just HARD BRICKED MY PHONE, can't not get into ODIN, which I was using to flash kernels, damn it, didn't know that would happen, try again tomorrow after I get my replacement. I am just gonna tell Sprint my phone just started giving me blank boot-ups, that shoulda work. good thing i got the warranty.
Here's what I did: (and plz don't try this as you can really brick ur phone!!!)
I just tried flashing original Galaxy S2 Clockwork mod (which flashes but you lose 3g/4g/voice) then flash superuser/su with clockwork mod(which gives you root), and lastly you just need to flash a working Epic 4G Touch kernel (from a kernel compiled on Samsung Open source), but that kernel doesn't work and ends up in a boot loop. Looks like we have to find a way to get initramfs compiled with the kernel, trying to do that, any help appreciated.
The bricking part wasn't caused by what i did above i got so frustrated and used a PIT file for ODIN off an Epic 4g, (don't do that).
You won't brick your phone by doing what I did but not do flash PIT file off Epic 4G like I dido.
You are gonna lose 3g/4g/voice if you do what i did by flashing s2 original recovery/kernel, until someone can post a stock kernel of epic 4g touch that works correctly, the ones off samsung's open source site don't.

actually havent tried that but could work. Samsung needs to really fix the issue as I compiled about a hundred times with different config files but they DON'T WORK otherwise I would have a working rooted epic 4g touch instead of a brick.

Build dates are Tuesday July 3rd 2012. Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4. For the 8.2 and 10.1 Wi-Fi AND 8.2 and 10.1 LTE models.
WARNING: If you are on a Wi-Fi only Xyboard of any size, there are no known fastboot files for you. Meaning if there is a newer leak for ICS or the official ICS 4.0.4 for Xyboard Wi-Fi only is a higher version number, you are STUCK on this ICS unless fastboot files come out.
WARNING 2: If you are on ANY model of Xyboard, once ICS installs there is no going back to Honeycomb. Ever. Ever. Ever.
Now that warnings are out of the way... here are my install instructions adapted from andlaw's Sideload ICS thread on droidrzr.com:
Be on STOCK Xyboard latest Honeycomb update. No frozen apps. No custom recoveries, etc.
Install instructions are using ES File Explorer and Rom Manager (free) from the Play Store download these and be rooted on stock latest honeycomb.
open rom manager free, hit OK, now press the home button.
open es file explorer, press YES, press menu, open settings, scroll down to Path settings and under Root settings: Enable
Up to Root (path settings)
Root Explorer (root settings)
Mount File System (root settings)
"DOWNLOAD THE ICS UPDATE ZIP AND PLACE INTO YOUR PHONES /CACHE DIRECTORY (not /system/cache, but in the root of the phone ~/cache/)"
open ES FILE EXPLORER, locate your /cache directory and then select the Blur_Version.___.___.___.MZ6__.______.__.en.USzip (depending on your version of Xyboard and ICS leak)
(now choose Open With ROM MANAGER)
phone will restart, and begin installation of the ICS leak (takes 10-15minutes)
phone restarts, boot animation begins, Android is upgrading :: Profit success!! Celebrate!!!

Now onto rooting:
Connect USB to Xyboard and the Windows PC. Install the Motorola USB Drivers 5.7 or higher (found by an easy google search if you do not have these already installed).
On the notification menu set the USB Mode to MTP mode or Camera mode (basically anything besides USB Mass Storage)
Under Settings > Developer Options > Hit the "Enable USB Debugging" selection.
Run this after extracted the zip file: http://goo.im/apps/mattlgroff/DroidRazrRoot404.zip

Note from a nice user:
Hey man.. I'm HussX on other forums.. I don't have enough posts here yet to post in dev forums, but I have something you may want to edit in/sticky. If someone recovers their tab with the fastboot files, the cache size may show it doesn't have enough space to copy over the ICS leak. To fix it, they need to boot into recovery, wipe/format the cache, then reboot. It will then show up the right size and allow them to copy the file over to update. Thanks, dude.

I am hording nothing lol.
They are on mod2extreme.com I believe the site is, found by a google search or three.
I am uploading utilities (similar to my Droid Razr Utility) for the 8.2" LTE and the 10.1" LTE Xyboards for pre-paring sideload of these leaks and unbricking them, which include the FB files.

i had no idea the official fastboot files were out...
theres like 0 info on that site, do you know if those are official fastboot files?
i ask simply cause if they are just imgs someone pulled off the tab itself they will not contain the moto sig and would fail to flash.
Well I'm ready to jump on this... But uuuh... I literally JUST got my Xyboard back from Motorola lol
Any precautions I need to do before jumping into this? lol
And PS Last I checked those Fastboot files on Mod2Extreme, they were dead, I tried downloading them and they didn't work - could've saved me shipping my tablet to Moto!
Update: Installing... Engineer Android man is working!! Here's hoping :-D
Update 2: Success, ICS is SWEET!! Video is up on the Xoom General board!
First of all great job Matt...after all the neglect, I still want an 8.2 Xyboard. Perfect size IMHO.
Maybe now that an ICS leak is out and it sounds like this one is very stable, more development will get going for you Xyboard/Xoom2 guys.
Congrats!
This will not work with a german Vodafone 10.1 WiFi+3G device, am I right?
Thanks for the screenshots and the video, nice to see this progress.
Most likely not.
MZ616 the one you have doesn't have LTE(or 4g network) like MZ617.
You could brick it when the rom boots and sees no 4g hardware.
Well this looks cool for the xyboard! I kinda like the icons used in the settings too and those home actions as well. And with those new, smaller ics versions of the xyboard's soft keys may possibly make mine obsolete :silly: ...
By extracting some images from some system files from a xyboard, I was able to get the softkeys of the honeycomb xyboard and recolor them. Then I made them ICS-ready. looks brighter in real life... Now the xyboard actually has ICS softkeys!
Anyways great guide for helping the xyboard catch up a bit. It's only unfortunate because JB is coming out for the OG Xoom not to long from now. Nonetheless, this is a great leap for the xyboard! And like others have said, I hope this puts more fuel back into xyboard/xoom2 development!
Anyone tested this on the EU/UK Wifi only 8.2"? I'm wondering if it will work, it should practically be the same device as the US device; unlike the 3G vs LTE versions.

Update: this will not work on the recent firmware updates.
Hey, you can't jailbreak an Android.. yeah, i know, but "Jailbreak" is a protected act under the USA DMCA Exemption of 2012 and "Unlocking" is illegal without carrier permission. There will be no misunderstandings here.
WARNING:
This is not a normal bootloader unlock. This is even higher. It's an IROM unlock. This device went from the most secure Galaxy Note 10.1 to the least secure. After performing the technique in this thread your device will allow you to flash a Justin Beiber MP3 over your bootloaders (that means a hard brick). BE VERY CAREFUL and never flash with Odin or Heimdall unless you're absolutely sure it is intended for a SCH-I925. Odin or Heimdall can easily brick your device.
Introduction
CASUAL will guide you through the process of unlocking your bootloader using exploits developed by Lee Harrison. It works on Windows, Linux, and Mac. Put your device into “Developer Mode>USB Debugging”. Click the do it button. Any problems will be addressed with updates. See the About CASUAL section below.
Overview
You are expected to be STOCK.... Stock anything, but stock. This will install a stock kernel and that may affect non-stock roms. You will need to download and execute the CASUAL application below. Make sure you're connected to the internet. Then click the Do It! button. You need Java. Do you have Java?.
Windows 32/64 Users: CASUAL will put your device into Download Mode. It will automatically flash everything. If drivers are required, jrloper's CADI (CASUAL Automated Driver installer) will handle it. Make sure you're connected to the internet.
Linux 32/64/raspberry pi Users There may be a permission escalation in order to install heimdall, either way sit back and relax. CASUAL automates the entire process.
Please run the following in a terminal first:
Mac Users: Mac works easierr than any other system at the time of this release on 32bit systems. Please report problems.
Download
Take Note Verizon CASUAL(R478b) CASUAL is used to automate the process. The exploit was developed by Elite Recognized Developer Ralekdev and packaged by AdamOutler. To run CASUAL you need Java. Do you have Java?
Note: Please don't mirror this file. Link to this thread for download. d-h.st is a fast server. If I find people mirroring old versions of CASUAL, i will throw the killswitch and their browser will bring them back here to download the new one so they end up downloading it twice, otherwise I have to support multiple versions.
Videos
Demonstration on Linux. It is roughlty the same on Windows and Mac, but if anyone wants to make a video I will put it here.
About CASUAL
CASUAL stands for Cross-platform ADB Scripting, Univeral Android Loader. CASUAL jar files are a wrapper for the CASUAL scripting language. CASUAL allows rapid and accurate deployment of hacks and exploits. CASUAL is an Open Format, meaning, you can find out as much as you need to about how it works because they're easily taken apart and modified with WinZip. CASUAL is also secure. At any time, if a serious problem is detected with any script, the kill-switch will be flipped and you will be brought to a support page (most likely here) so you can download the latest version. Otherwise for minor corrections, new CASUAL scripts can be deployed remotely.
Here's a picture of CASUAL and a Verizon GNote10.1 running Team Win Recovery

CASUAL will let you root, but it won't install files that will damage your device. Even if it would, it's a bad idea. This is an IROM unlock, intended for Verizon devices only. IROM unlock means you can flash anything you want including files that destory your device.
You don't need this if you can flash custom kernels and ROMs. We have taken down all defenses here. If the U.S. Cellular version is locked down and you cant flash kernels/ROMs without it, I can release a new, updated version.

Hit me up on an email with the output of terminal emulator command "cat /system/build.prop"
Update: rebooted windows 8 and the install went through fine.
Adam,
So here is what I am seeing, see the pictures attached
Alright guys. I'm uploading two new packages....
The first one is the latest copy of the Take Note Verizon jailbreak. It includes a modified Recovery by Dees_Troy. Our Note 10.1's are different than the other ones.
Differences: The partition structure is totally different. The kernels are totally different. This means you will soft-brick your device by flashing anything in these forums involving a recovery or a kernel other than this one. That being said..... It may be a good idea to get a separate forum. If you are interested, please start a *NEW THREAD* in General forums listing all the i925 specific threads which could be moved.
Alright. For the second part, I'm uploading a Rooted back-to-stock which I packaged from my own device before unlocking it and flashing stuff. Here's the technique used. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082951 . This file is large so it will be a while before it's uploaded. The files included are basically everything needed to safely get back from a custom ROM and be rooted stock again.
Files included: boot.img, hidden.img, modem.bin, param.bin, recovery.img, system.img
We don't have a way to remove the modified system status currently. There is no completely back to stock.

There is no completely back to stock.

no. The hardware is different. The bootloaders are similar. You need a different kernel
As a note: Never flash an N8010 bootloader. this is a SPECIAL bootloader based on the N8010 bootloader. Just pretend it has nothing to do with N8010. For all practical purposes, this is an I925 bootloader we crafted out of an N8010 because we didn't have a i925 to work with.
Ok thanks, mostly just curious as i own the N8013 but considered the verizon version or selling and getting the unlocked international.
Thanks a ton Adam! Worked perfectly.
So if I have this correctly, we will be running stock until we get a dev to start working on our variant? I would assume that the other roms wouldn't install correctly with the partitions being different correct?

Great work Adam, almost sent you a PM begging you to take this project on about 6 weeks ago... thanks!
But I had some problem as I ran the script, it stopped after it had rebooted and was stuck in Download Mode and asked me for my XDA username for some pastebin. The last information in that pastebin was:

After unpluging and holding the power down for a few secs it rebooted as usually, but I dont know if it completed or not... how do I know if the bootloader got unlocked?
If you would like to see the pastebin then I'd be glad to be able to help, just let me know.
Thanks again,

Use a different usb cable and port on your computer. There is a problem with the communications.
hey all,
I picked up a 2nd hand E4GT on Sprint from a buddy for my wife. figured AOSP might be a little much for her to tinker with so i put the stock rooted GB27 on it. Battery tanked on it so bought a new one. Now she gets anywhere from 12 to 16 hours on it, but she still gets frustrated with it doing wonky stuff like hanging, not waking, not sleeping, etc.
I'm not a noob by any means but every device is different. (i'm on an HTC Evo 4g lte myself) I'm just trying to figure out what ROM to jump her to that's a) not bloated with crap to make it slow and b) has great battery life. I guess i could take her back to AOSP if need be provided it's stable. She's not a tweaker at all. if something doesn't work for her i'll hear about it. close to stock but debloated with some tweaks and goodies would be perfect.
after all that, what's the best (easiest) way to get a good recovery on this thing from the stock ROM i loaded so i can switch to the aforementioned ROM?
i could sit here and read the forums until my eyes bugged out (and i do for my own device) but i just want to give her something she'll be happy with, so i defer to you all who've been around the block with the thing.
TIA
I'll shamelessly send you to my ROM, it seems to be the most popular right now-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2320041- I'll let you be the judge, just read the features and see if it sounds right for her.

I suggest the gb27 rooted full restore ( wipes sdcard ) one click from rwilco12's repo....flash with Odin..After its up and settled in.You can flash a different kernel/recovery( they are tied together on this device )if you want. But I wouldn't think she would need it. Also..after its up. Just debloat to you're liking...I take everything out I don't use..down to widgets I don't use.
If that's not what you want to do...since you're rooted. Use mobile Odin to flash a custom ROM. If you'd like...I can link you to a guide I put together for mobile Odin.
As for what will be the best ROM...all ROMs run a little different on each device. You know that. So it will be a little back and forth until you find one that works for her. I really like project x...but im lucky, in the fact that all the touch wiz based ROMs run great for me. I can also run about any other cm/aosp/aokp ROM..but dirty unicorns. My device doesn't like it..and its an awesome ROM.
Let me know if you want the mobile Odin link or if you have any questions...
FYI...we have a Q&A thread for this forum...for these questions..Good Luck. And Welcome to the Epic 4G Touch Forum.

Thanks, can you shot me towards the mobile Odin info? I'm not familiar with it at all and you're right, she wouldn't need recovery except for me to nand back if she likes it worse afterwards.
Also, is there a safe to remove list someplace? I've had sammys before but never a tw device. Figure worst case i just go on a terror spree with root explorer uninstalling junk system apps lol

As for the bloat ware...I'll look around. But I usually just start freezing stuff and then run it for a few days...if all is well. I make a back up of the frozen apks and then delete them.
There is a de - bloated boost ROM ( you'd have to change the apns to get MMS working and flash a sprint modem...gb27 is the newest ) and there are some light gb27 ROMs that are debloated, for the most part...project x is one of them.
Let me know if you need any help...FYI..make sure you get the el 29 direct boot kernel...not the stock el 29 kernel...This will make sense once you read the mobile Odin guide and go to rwilco12's repo...all links are in the guide.

[SIZE=+1]Q3: My device is encrypted, how do I remove the encryption because I can't flash new Roms? [/SIZE]
If you do not have or have forgot your password, you can only factory reset your phone to remove encryption.
[SIZE=+1]Q4: Will rooting affect my battery life?[/SIZE]
No simply rooting the phone should not hamper battery life.
[SIZE=+1]Q5: What is the best ROM?[/SIZE]
There is no best ROM for all users, depends on personal needs and preferences. best to pick a few which look like they meet your needs, and try them out..
[SIZE=+1]Q6: How do I return to stock?[/SIZE]
You can download the stock rom and return to stock using updated ODIN / http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2465764
[SIZE=+1]Q7: Can I use my SGN3 on other networks?[/SIZE]
At this time you can request a sim unlock from T-Mobile and use on networks with a sim that have same network towers.
[SIZE=+1]Q8: Can I flash a new recovery without rebooting my GNOTE 3?[/SIZE]
Yes. Place the recovery.img on your sdcard root. Open a terminal emulator and type "su flash_image recovery /sdcard/xxx.img". (Note: The x's are the name of the recovery as some may hold a different name. If not on the sdcard root folder, specify the folder /sdcard/xxx/xxx.img!)
[SIZE=+1]Q9: Will rooting my device void my warranty?[/SIZE]
Yes. If you have a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 it will void your warranty. If you have another variation in other countries, then you will need to check your Terms Of Service with your provider.
[SIZE=+1]Q10: How do I use the Sideload function?[/SIZE]
Install a recovery that has sideload functionality.Choose Sideload in recovery. Update the Android SDK to the newest version. Use the command " ADB Sideload (path to where the .zip you want to install is).
[SIZE=+1]Q11: How do I get to the Developer options to enable Debug mode?[/SIZE]
On your handset, click on menu>settings> General Tab > about device. Then scroll down to Build Number and keep tapping. It will give you messages like "5 more steps until you are a developer" Then it will open the developer option. Back out and click developer options and then USB Debugging.
[SIZE=+1]Q12: I'm having a problem rooting with Odin. What is the easiest way?[/SIZE]
If you are having issues, try updating your version of ODIN and also downloading the .tar file from an alternate source".
[SIZE=+1]Q13: What is a "logcat" and how do I create one? [/SIZE]
For setting up ADB see What is ADB (above) logcat allows us to log what the OS is doing, and possibly offer information if things are not working. its quite simple to create but may be difficult for most to understand. This is a tool a Developer may ask for in detecting issues your device may be encountering.
To use logcat
Code:
adb shell
logcat
To logcat to a certain file do
Code:
adb shell
logcat -d > /sdcard/whatevertexfileyoulike.txt
For a full explanation follow the link in What is ADB
[SIZE=+1]Q14: What is KNOX, and how does it affect me?[/SIZE]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2478391 This is a thread by Lawalty explaining what KNOX is.
[SIZE=+1]Q15: I have gps issues. Why can't I lock onto GPS?[/SIZE]
Some roms have "time" issues with getting a gps lock. This is a known issue with all custom Roms.
[SIZE=+1]Q16: How do I get the best out of my Rom?[/SIZE]
Depending on what Rom you choose. Once you go to the "THEME" sections there are many more mods for your selected rom. Always try different Roms to fit your liking.
[SIZE=+1]Q17: Titanium Backup ask if I would like to restore my original ID Code after I flash roms, what should I do.?[/SIZE]
Do to the mass amount of custom roms, some internel phone setting get changed by default. You should always restore ID codes and native handset information when possible.
[SIZE=+1]Q18: How loud is too loud?[/SIZE]
That realistically is up to you. Rule of thumb, if your sounds is distorted, even the least bit, then lower the settings. Distortion is a warning sign, and prolonged use can damage your hardware.
[SIZE=+1]Q19: I have about 4gb of data missing from internal storage I cannot find. Where is it?[/SIZE]
Recovery uses a large amount of data for backups. TWRP saves by default, backups to the /sdcard/twrp or /sdcard/0/twrp directory. Make sure you delete old or unused backups.
[SIZE=+1]Q20: I need to return my rooted phone for a replacement. Does returning to stock work?[/SIZE]
Yes. Follow the instructions on the forum for unrooting and flash the Odin stock file. If you flash an earlier version, make sure to accept updates to get your phone back to factory. Knox 0x1 will affect rather your warranty will be honored
[SIZE=+1]Q21: What is so different about the Galaxy Note 3 that should get me to upgrade from the Note 2?[/SIZE]
Other then the hardware and screen upgrades, you can read the the 45+ Ultra-Advanced Features of the Note 3 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441935 Thread by Ipsuvedi
[SIZE=+1]Q22: While restoring using Titanium Backup, I get constant FC's. How do I fix this?[/SIZE]
The TB Team is working on a fix for the SELinux links in the new system. For the time being, everytime you restore apps using TB you will need to run TB Restore Fixer found here
[SIZE=+1]Q23: Does restoring in recovery break my phone? I fear the "brickloops"!?[/SIZE]
Not with TWRP version 2.6.3.5 <<CLICK - problems existed with earlier versions but basic restores (boot, system, data) are now working as they should. Thanks to dwitherell for the Q&A

Might be worth adding in some info on the initial recovery issues with restores, resolutions if you suffered them, and versions that no longer have those issues (or at least not to the same extent)
Nice FAQ.
I knew the answer to every question but one, so hey, I learned something. Namely, I had no idea that the "flash_image" util was so prevalent. I assumed it was a touchwiz-only thing, but I just checked and it's also present on my CyanogenMod 10.2 ROM as well. Doing a "flash_image recovery /sdcard/twrp_foo.img" is certainly easier than having to remember the correct partition to manually 'dd' to (though still not as easy as just using GooManager).
One other Q for the FAQ:
Q: Is it too big?
A: No.
Does it perfectly work with AT&T's network? (including LTE)
Yes!

It is a friggin amazing all-in-one package... It is a tweaked kernel, super-tweaked ui, installs BusyBox AND Gappas as well... It is an AOSP with a working sys-updater(OTA). I have paired the previous with a Hulk Overlock Kernel, and it was happily accepted... So on top of all the developer tweaks, I was overclocked to 2.1ghz..... I also slap on Seeder or another entropy tweaker and a swap file creater, and my friend.... You have the most fluid ROM since stock TW...

Wow you made my day, I spend alot of my time working on my ROMs my policy is this:
I ensure the best ROMs for any device , I believe performance is more important and business comes second, I ensure everyone's devices have a experience they never seen before, I make sure everyone can enjoy my ROMs equally and as well ensure to beat any ROM out their to be the top os since CyanogrnMod since started, not just to be better, but to have fun and the fastest ROMs possible
This is my policy I stick to but I thank you for the compliment it makes my day even better
Well.... I believe, somehow, I had a mixed up build and baseband...
GRU2 used to work fine. Then somehow i guess something switched the baseband and my modem and LTE would not work. This was confirmed using "Phone Info" from the app store. THEN I got my wifi working but no LTE.... UGH! This was 2 am... That was where it all went south....
Boot loader was NH7 and the others nk2. So I spent literally all night trying to recover from that... Use PIT files and manually reconstruct. And yes.... I tried KIES... NOPE... Tried creating a flashable zip, using Tar2FlashableZip, tried using raw TAR files. Tried the MD5's... No Bueno.. I kept getting an ABOOT error on my samsung download screen.... Great.... Time to rebuild the partitions individually.....
All in all... As of right now, I am on Rooted Stock NK2 and am imaging that as we speak.. I don't want to flash another custom and loose another night of sleep.. So I will flash this tomorrow.

Anywho... I believe me flashing all those kernel fixes and flashing Alucard and Hulk and KToonsez AOSP kernel.... All trying to get the wifi and lte back....
That is just my guess..
Oh.. The reason it took all yesterday evening and into the night was because I wanted to force damn GRU2 on my damn device... I did't want anything else.. Even though I have a plethora of roms on my extSdCard..... To give everyone else an idea of the quality..... It was that good.... I am unhappy with the lagginess of CM12 and DU and pretty much every rom on the first page of roms on XDA.... The only solution was to go back to stock until I can try again...

That is what I ended up doing... Went to Sammobile and grabbed the NK2 updated firmware and odin'd it with the md5... This was only after rebuilding the sdcard and other partitions... I will try that tomorrow... I need a tad bit of sleep....Then again, I am probably lying and will stay up another night.... AHAHAHAH I am a flashaholic again... Your ROM cured me of it... Only to find out I became addicted to YOUR rom....
So this rom needs nk2? I'm on NH7

Well not really this Ron doesn't require nk2 I developed in under NH7 so it should work on all modem versions
Oh ok, I used NH7 with gamerrom 5 and it worked. I was just asking because of that other post on here

I apologize for the confusion... I was speaking about another one of the Dev's builds that I got addicted to. And I believe that I just got to "kernel flash-happy".
Other than that.... Any and ALL of his roms are freaking legit! Finding the right overclock kernel and you will never need a new phone.
Thanks for clearing that up

CONFIRMED WORKING on NK2/NK2 firmware. And I mean THIS rom.... OMG BRO!!!! THIS IS THE TITS!!!!! Easily my most FAVORITE CM based rom!!!!! This is the ONLY rom that will do for your UGR2_TW rom's place. I flashed the zip with ease... Then I didn't reboot and immediately flashed my own kernel..... Boot is straight LIGHTNING FAST!!! And that is no exaggeration at all my friends. It did it's App Optimize faster than some of these other roms take to boot up... Again... No exaggeration..... I cannot wait to play with overcklocking on this bad-boy. In the short time GR7 has been on my phone, I have not had a single force close... I think I am going to ALWAYS last stock, CFAuto_Root, Philz, install new custom rom, install kernel. Yes it takes about and hour more... But to have a device as stable and fluid as this is now..... It is more than worth it... And you know you will never have and permission issues or R/W issues. No Force closes either... Think about it... You, in essence, start with a brand new device each time... Virgin!
I wonder if an auto-Stock-Root-Recovery-Rom-Cache-Boot script... I wonder if python can handle that... That would be worth Gold!
Anyways... I have diarrhea of the keys... so I need to pull back...
Recommend this rom? Your device has not lived until you flash this.
Seriously... Comming rom a flash-a-holic(also have a usb thumb drive that has BOTH usb plugs... For the PC and for the Phone... 16gb is full... hahahaha.... I can finally empty it for use elsewhere.
GOOD JOB BRO!

Is there and downside to overclocking? I've never overclocked before. Does the phone heat up?

The pros witch are good are:
*Faster processing speeds
* Less Lags
* Faster boot times and more
The cons witch can be bad or not a big problem are:
Battery life is shortend witch it drains faster then normal
* Can cause Cpu heat temps to rise causing the phone to heat up but wont break or dsmage the cpu unless changing the thermal voltages settings through a third party app
* the opreating system can slow doen due to the stress of many apps being running at the sametime on the cpu/gpu
The cons are not that bad but you can safely tweak the cpu to get rid if some of the heat issue try Kernel Auditor its in the play store
