Help With Partition Question - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just partitioned my EVO 4G and did everything "to a T" but I am not sure if it worked or not.
I am running a ROM that doesn't HAVE to have the SD card partitioned (Kingdom Rewind 3D) but I flash ROMs frequently & figured 'what the hell'.....
now I read in all the posts about partitioning the SD card that I should have around 300-400MB once partitioned...now when I went into SD & Phone Storage I see the following:
total space-12.98GB
available space-12.65GB
and for internal storage 97.66MB...
but in Titanium Backup it shows the a2SD with almost 2 GIGs of free space (see screens)...
my question is- did the partition work correctly or do I need to run a script or something?

did that (thank you by the way) and the ROM started acting crazy...flashing Synergy in a minute & then I'll do like you said....hopefully it works.

I'm pretty sure synergy uses cm a2sd scripts those commands are for dta2sd but its normal and your fine but if you start to get some lag you could flash dta2sd you'll need to find the moded version on that thread somewhere then run the command "nodata" I believe thats the one or "nocache" hope that helps.

everything seems to be running smooth right now....although the commands didn't work there is 357MB internal storage showing....so I guess I'm good for now.

There are a few threads in the dev section that have pretty detailed instructions for using a2sd scripts.
I just recently started using this myself, and have found two things to be pretty handy. First--and this won't help you on Synergy--but if/when you're using a CM7-based ROM, try this s2e app. I've been using it on CM7 and Deck, and it works great, basically gives you a GUI to manage the options from:
https://market.android.com/details?id=ru.krikun.s2e
Second, and you can use this tool with any rom, is another utility by the same dev called freespace--you can tell at a glance where your stuff is and how much space you have in /system, /data, /sd-ext, etc:
https://market.android.com/details?id=ru.krikun.freespace
I also just noticed this one for managing the darktremor a2sd script. I haven't used it, but if somebody wants to try it out, it's got 97 reviews and an avg rating of 4.7 stars:

[Q] How to free up some space if you are using darktremor a2sd script or RCMix GB rom

hi to all,
yesterday i started to struggle with the space on my desire with GB RCMix S v1.7 Rom. i know i have a lot of applications but i wanted to know if its possible of getting more space somehow.
quickly searched the forum and didnt find anything i really wanted but found this: (not sure about links policy here):
h_t_t_p://w_w_w.baadnwz.eu/2011/05/align-your-sdcard-fat-and-ext-partiton.html?showComment=1306324922084#c1198792341921194805
ofcourse all credit goes to baadnwz for his great work, however, im not sure how its done and where to imput all those commands? is it ADB or terminal being used? and how do people input | ?
i know baadnwz is a busy man with all the development so i thought i might just ask general public on this and see if i can get an answer and learn how its done and maybe someone else will find it useful.
thank you and sorry if its repost or i didnt put it right. and sorry that i cant make clickable link as i dont have enough posts
EDIT: the link i provided does not apply for this thread as apparently it could only be used for people who have different a2sd scripts. but you still might find it useful using the information discussed in this threa to free up some space.
U r using rcmix yes which hboot n Rom please n have u used a2sdGUI
app provided buy robo
Insertion Rom uses a different script so the command u try will not work
Rcmix uses darktremor a2sd script

thanks for all the help but would like to ask something before i try and move Dalvik to Ext. will it have any effect on performance? as the rom now seems to be very fast and smooth, so dont want to lose it. and what are pros and cons of moving Dalvik to Ext?
by the way noticed you have Dalvik Jit on? and mine is not on so should i turn it on as well as latest 1.7 version as per changelog has Jit turned on as well.
thank you again
Moving dalvik to ext will not have any harm to ur devuce make ur device much happier
As it means u half & half n settle its self n works very good I would always recommend moving cache
U can look on xda for more indept details about cache n pro n cons if u really won't
N yes just tick jit n reboot buddy
The Best Things Come To Those Who Wait
wow great help mate, will do that right now and will report if i see any changes or if i have any more question. will also edit the title as it would only be appropriate for guys/girls with darktremor a2sd script
thanks again and have a good day
No props if u find u are having speed or performance issue just use the a2sd GUI to move cache back to internal u will just have to delete some apps lol
The Best Things Come To Those Who Wait
daddyspud just moved Dalvik cache to sd-ext by pressing Move button, however dont seem to gain any memory so i assume my Dalvik was being move already by the script that is in the Rom. however, would like to know what Move and Rebuild would do? and regarding Jit it stays on when i click on it but if i reboot my phone is off again. is it how it suppose to be?
thanks again
Yh there a issue with jit on 1.6.2 but 1.7 is been fixed wat version if rcmix u using ok so to check if working
Download terminal emulate from market
Open it type Su enter allow Su
Then type a2sd cachesd then it will run a command n the reboot that should do the trick buddy

Ext Partition isnt used

Hey,
I am using insertcoin on my desire and have a 1gb Ext Partition.
Titanium Backup says the half of it is used but my phone says my phone space is full.
Why? How can i make the Ext Partition use?
Metin
The fact that you got Insertcoin installed proves that you have a working EXT partition. Now if you are using the CM7r2 version of the ROM, be advised that the dalvik cache was not moved to the ext partition for speed considerations. That's probably the part that is full on your phone. I use FreeSpace app on the market to view every partition. It's better than the one built inside Titanium Backup imo.
No i am using a2sd and want the apps to be installed to the Ext partition.
Ive tried link2sd but this makes some apps like opera unstartable
They should be installed to the ext part out of the box. Although it's been a long time I cant remember if I'm right. And yeah using another app could just mess the script baadnews implemented for the rom.
And what i have to do?
What partition type do you have? Ext3 or Ext4? I remember using EXT4 with Insertcoin.
I use Ext4
I run the CM7r2 version of InsertCoin. Your apps are automatically installed on the EXT4 partition BUT not all the app is stored there so some of the internal memory is still used when you install an app.
How many apps have you installed?

I have 60 apps or so, but i see the apps folder is linked to Ext. My data/data folder is about 60mb, would it help to move it to Ext? But where are the other 60mb used on Internal? Which folder would best to move?
How i move it?
I believe moving anything will cause problems.

Are there any suggestions? I have a 1gb Ext Partition but i can only use half of it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310309
I ran this on Sandvold's ICS with a class 4 SDcard. This has a flashanle zip. But as you can see in the thread you have to manually install it. I tried the ICS zip with a fresh InsertCoin flash and it falied. I have not attempted to install it manually yet as I have been focused on installing and learning to live with s Linux OS...
Try this.
Edit
I meant to say the download from sandvold's site for the ICS ROM is a flashable zip. It appears that you need to manually install it for other ROMs.

I think the libs of apps like opera are very big.
I think it would help if i link them to the system partition.
Link2sd link them to SD but would it be possible to link them to system?

Read this...
http://docs.insertcoin-roms.org/master/en-US/misc/free-space-without-data2ext.html
I remember someone made a little script based on this to make it easy. There was a thread about it.
I ve read that moving data to Ext isnt good because it damals the SD but can i do it same way to system Partition?
Probably not. From what I understand, when the phone boots it reads the system partition first before it reads the SD card. If you link system to sd-ext, I believe the phone will not boot at all as the system files cannot be accessed during the initial startup since they are on sd. I'm not an expert but I haven't heard of anyone moving system to ext.
If you are really after more storage than the Sense hybrid, check the Supernova ROM. It's the official GB rom from HTC with a lot of space for apps. Downside is it's the old Sense.
I mean a symbolic /data/data/*/lib=>system (or may to SD, but system would better) because the libs are big.
I have tried link2sd for it but a2sd deleted all libs from SD.

[Q] Internal storage on tommytomatoes Classic Rom

I'd love to post directly to the thread in the developers section to ask this, but until then, can someone testing The Classic v0.0.9 let us know how internal storage is with the latest update?
I'm currently on Classic v0.0.6 with a substantial number of apps moved to SD card with Apps2SD Pro, and still only have about 47 mb of available space in Internal Storage. Just wondering if the latest version has more/less/or about the same amount of internal storage than v0.0.6?
Thanks

I'm running 0.0.9 and have a ton of free storage, however I'm using dta2sd on a partitioned SD card. I'm not familiar with apps2sd pro.
sent using a freaking pigeon, with a note tied to its leg.
Apps2SD Pro just moves part of the app. Data and cache still stay in the internal storage of the phone for the apps. If you use a lot of apps you may want to partitioned your sd card and flash dta2sd. This way the app and data will be moved to sd partition. You can even move the cache if needed. Hope that helps.
I wasn't familiar with dta2sd. Just read some posts stating that this rom already has it. Should I move the apps back to phone using Apps2SD, uninstall Apps2SD, then move to apps back again with dta2sd?

Is your sd card partitioned? If not you must do so to use dta2sd. Just make sure to backup all data from your sd card to your pc before doing so.
Sorry. I did mean to include in earlier post that my SD card is partitioned already. Thanks for all of the help.

Then all you need to do is go into terminal emulator. Type su. Then type a2sd reinstall. This will activate A2SD and move your apps and data to the sd partition. This is if the rom you have has a2sd baked in already. If not you will need to flash it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715938
Thanks, this worked for me as well!
I'm not sure if it's related, but after flashing DT a2sd, I was able to reinstall the google search box widget on Classic Rom. For some reason, I kept getting errors about a month or 2 ago. So I tried to uninstall/reinstall. For the past month or so, when tried to reinstall/download from Play, I kept getting error message.
Thanks again for this recommendation on a2sd.

This is by far the smallest internal storage usage I've had with any ROM. I also have my SD partitioned
and use ROM Toolbox's App2SD...
...and I know its off subject but I would like to share...
...this blows away any battery life I've had with other ROMs and kernels and tweaks.

Insufficient storage Link2SD error?

I'm not sure what the problem is here. I'm running CM9A6 via the RobotoMod 1.0.2 ROM, and I couldn't get the default S2E to work at all. I installed link2SD as a workaround, and while I know it has it's limitations, I can't determine why it won't link an app.
I downloaded Where's my Perry? for my kids, and due to it's size (50+ MB), I wanted to get it out of my internal storage. It isn't working, though - link2SD is throwing an error saying there's "insufficient storage". I'll let the screenshots speak for themselves:

Perry?free is already on the SDCard. You are trying to install it to internal memory and then getting Link2SD to link it back to the SDCard. As you only have 51.18MB free on your internal storage and Perry?free is 52.73MB it won't work. Leave it where it is.

Hi,
For CM9, use Ext4 on 2nd partition on SDcard. Do you have it?.
Link2sd was working fine with me when I had CM9Alpha7. Try only with Link2sd(don't have multiple SDcard apps).
Select 'Autolink' on Link2sd settings. If you do right, all apps will be installed on SD card.

2nd part is formatted Ext2. It works fine other than this one program, and I have it configured to install to SD.
I'll try linking just the dalvik-cache and library, and see if that works, leaving the app on the SD card.

If you bothered to look at the images provided by the OP, you will see that Link2SD is working fine. Changing the partition to Ext4 will not magically create more internal space.
See tats the problem wit link2sd. I used it for a long time after using data2sd. Now I'm back to daya2sd. It may boot slower but it gives u happiness.
