I am selling the phone to someone not on my plan they better not charge me $36 as that would be double dipping and i would pitch a fit.I got mine from wirefly but since i had one for a friend not on my account he will have to activate it on his plan and they will charge him $36 you can't double dip.

They do not charge to activate a device unless processed through a sale. So, you will be charged the 36.00 activation fee and your friend will not.

now I see it. I'm having all kinds of problems accessing sprint.com right - and this place too, actually

you did not look hard enough

Done and done, my baby is on its way. Good thing too 'cuz after 15 months of owning my EVO, its just now crapping out. I must say i put my EVO thru hell, hope the Samsung is just as good.

[Q] What exactly does insurance cover? How do I get my phone fixed? D:

So I dropped my phone for the first time a few weeks ago and a couple cars ran over it.. don't ask, I posted another thread lol. I finally got around to going to the Sprint store, and after waiting for an hour and a half she said its not covered by insurance because its cosmetic, part of my screen is covered by a black and purple blob. Why have I been paying for insurance for 2 years? How can I get it to be covered now? All help would be greatly appreciated. I don't have 100 bucks to toss right now

do you pay an extra $7 and month or the $4 and month?
If its the $7, just google assurion.com and file a claim and they will ship you one. No need to wait at the Sprint store with all those minimum wage idiots.
If its just the $4 plan, just smash it til the screen cracks and get it fixed. More than likely they will order you a replacement at the repair store this time... Stupid, I know, but they should have fixed it for you the first time. I would have raised hell if they gave me that "Cosmetic Crap."
Goodluck.
Assurion will charge a $100 deduct regardless if you turn in your old broken phone. If you still have the phone I recommend getting it done at the sprint store no deduct.

Oh wow, thank you for such a quick and thorough response! One question though, you said regardless I need to pay 100 to asurion, is that regardless of which plan I have? So no matter what the $4 choice is better? As far as I remember I have the 7 plan, but ill confirm it when I get home

50% Coupon at T-Mobile

T-Mobile has a coupon on their Facebook page for 50% off any accessories in the store http://www.facebook.com/tmobile I think I may buy the 1650 mah battery for $25.00 with the coupon. Thanks me!
Coupon
Aren't they out of the 1650mah batteries right now? Couldn't find them on the website. Also, is it confirmed that the 1650mah fits perfectly into the Vibrant? Skip that. I can probably find an answer with a search
Why can i never find anything good when there is a sale on...
The 1650 does fit just fine into the Vibrant. I'm using one now
I love how t-mo sells car chargers for $30+ and cases for 20+ when on amazon you can get them for a dollar... *not to say I would trust these at $1 but still.
Thanks for the coupon I will check it out.
too bad they don't consider phones an accessory like I do.

Serious? I have been with them since day one (my old local provider was bought up by them) and they don't do squat for me. I found out last year that I had not used an upgrade credit in 131 months and I can't even get them to waive the $200 fee for taking my wife's bastard nephew off of my family plan...

they usually wont help me out. i was looking for a powerskin case (i dont keep my phone in my pocket, like... ever.. so the issues people complain about shouldnt be a problem for me) and asked one of the local store reps why they are dickheads now about upgrades on family plans... and he hooked it up with a workaround.
scenario: my grandma is my second line. she has a dumbphone and doesnt text/data. i want to use her line to get whatever SGS2 variant comes out in august, but if i do that, i have to add data on her line, even though she wont be using the phone.
i asked the guy wtf is up with that, how it's not fair because i'm still paying the data on my line and they're getting a 2 year agreement on that line.
the loophole:
i upgrade her line to get the phone, add the data plan.
i then buy a dumbphone at full price (one of those refurbished POS phones for <$40 on her line and remove the data plan.
i bought the mhl cable with the coupon for 10.81 and tried it with my evo 3d and it did not work. Is there something i need to turn on in settings on my htc evo 3d?
my TV wasnt finding a signal in the hdmi 3 port that my phone was plugged into
I ordered "Samsung" branded items from Amazon, the low end bluetooth earbud is attrocious. The wallwart with data cable would not charge the phone. The car charger worked fine. The earbud and wallwart/cable look to have been sold a few times previously. For the hassle I'm out the shipping and could only get a refund on one of them. I've now been waiting a week on replacements. I would not pay t-mobiles prices but I will shop local for any other accessories.

Cheapest method to get an ET4G with $75 upgrade?

I only have $75 off from Sprint to upgrade, so what is the cheapest method into getting the ET4G? Many websites unfortunately only take account the upgrade price if you're 2 years in, but most don't give you an option if you're between 1 and 2 years between contracts.

Cheapest way is through Sprint. Their retail price is $499 for the phone at Sprint stores. That's quite a bit cheaper than through other resellers.
Depending on what your coming from, you may be able to sell your old phone on ebay or craigslist to recoup some of the cost.
The other option is to wait. I have no doubts that this phone, while impressive right now, will be outclassed in a few months. By the time you can cash in your full discounted upgrade, there will be something bigger and badder... or the E4GT will be much cheaper.
Keep in mind, you'll have to go another two years if you cash in that $75. Not worth it in my opinion... it's just a phone.
$75 is NOT worth re-upping your contract for 2 years. I went ahead and paid pull price for the phone and I will keep my full upgrade for next spring when the hopefully the LTE phones are out
Best Buy gave the phone for$399.99 and I also was only qualified for a $75 discount. That and the gave me $97 bucks for my old Epic thus I got this bad boy for about $300 and change.

Yeah I renew it, and I also had some gift cards so the price of the phone was a little under $300 with taxes

What i did was early terminate for $80 and started a new contract and got the phone for $199 plus acctivation. If you already got the phone wih only a 75 discount have ur accout reversed and do the early termination thing
p.s. If u do the account reversal you will need an old sprint phone to temperarily put ur number back on or they will charge u a restocking fee of 35 dollars

I was thinking of early terminating too. I am 1 year into my contract so it would be $100 for the ETF. Start a new contract and get the phone for $100 at Wal-Mart plus tax and $36 activation fee. The only thing is I want to keep my number so I would have to port it over maybe a prepaid phone or Google voice and then port it back to Sprint?

I did this exactly and traded in an Evo which they gave me an 87 credit for. I know I could of got more but it was too easy this way, totally off set the ETA. Phone number change for me wasn't a problem as I give out my Google voice number. I asked the guy at the store if he would just give me the full upgrade price instead of doing this but he said no. It was easy enough.
I was in the same situation. Got one from sprint, did not use it and sent it back because I realize that I could get a brand new one from eBay for cheaper and not use my $75 upgrade and be eligible for the next s3.
Maybe I might wait until after October 11 and see if Samsung and Google will announce the new Galaxy Nexus for Sprint hopefully. If it does come to Sprint I may just ETF and port my number out to a cheap prepaid phone and open a new contract.
Whats your current phone now? I personally think its worth it if you can sell your current phone for a decent amount and use it towards the 4g touch on eBay.
The best way is the Best Buy method. I sold my Evo and a Zune HD straight to Best Buy for about $210...I ended up paying $14 for mine (I had a full upgrade though).
If you've got some other old electronics you never use, I suggest going that route, Best Buy pays out pretty well.
Also, they won't be announcing the Nexus S in October. It'll be the iPhone 5 and MAYBE switching to LTE. IF we get the Nexus S, it won't be til later on.
I sold my Epic on Facebook in 20 minutes for $150, then used the $75 discount. I put down another $75 and billed the rest to my account. Ill have a huge bill next month, but I'm OK with that. But that's really the cheapest route.

I had the same problem and I was willing to just buy the Epic Touch full price without renewing my contract BUT I decided it was worth a shot calling customer service to see what they could do for me.
I got:
$100 account credit
$75 renewal
$75+ phone buyback (I had a bunch of old phones)
Which left me at less than $249 out of pocket.
Then I transfered my OG Epic to my wife, and she ended up getting a brand new OG Epic because the Sprint store couldn't figure out how to swap things over to her correctly and I wasn't about to tell them how
I'm happy with it because we both have brand new phones and like I said before I was ready to just buy it full price... and I still have a full upgrade next spring...

Wow, you guys are lucky. I must have spoke with 4 Sprint reps to try to get some sort of deal going on. Two over the phone and 2 online. Even one of the guy was telling me to just keep my Evo and wait til next year, "since there will be a newer phone out every year."

I see, yeah the 11th is coming up pretty soon anyways. I've noticed that the epic 4g touch prices have dropped quit a bit since I bought mine on eBay. I believe the going rate now is close to $450-60 shipped, I paid $480 for mine. Hopefully I can see my Evo for a decent amount. If you opt out for the new Nexus the price might be a bit lower too for the epic 4g touch.

Best buy buyback.

I got a ego 4g lte with best buy and had the buy back program applied to it when I upgraded when it was released. I know I would have to buy the note outright but if I traded in the evo does anyone know an estimate of what I would have to pay out of pocket?
Thanks in advance!

Not as much as you think.
If you are patient, root your phone, install a good rom on it and post it on eBay. You'll get a ton more from people who don't know how to follow directions and root themselves on that device.
When I bought my Evo3d (when it was released) I had a brand new Evo that I was trading in. Actually just opened the box and turned the phone on once. I walked in and they told me that the phone was in horrible shape and that in it's condition I would get 55$ in trade in. I lol'd and walked out. Skinned it and sold it on eBay the next day to some guy in the Midwest for a lot more than that.
It all depends if you actually are using the "Buy Back" program that was started around 2 years ago or the "Trade-In" program that took it's place not too long ago (there's some lawsuit that Best Buy is losing about the Buy Back program so they had to change their process). The Buy Back program is worth more than the Trade-In program.
Example: When you do the Buy Back program, the value of the full retail of the phone is used. There is a tier of value that dwindles after a certain time (prorate). I had an Inspire 4G with the Buy Back program and got $120 for it on a gift card.
They also told me the value of the phone if I were to use their Trade-In program which would have been $55.
If it is indeed the Buy Back program, after 1 1/2 years or something like that, you should get around 20% of the original retail value (even if you got the phone free with a two-year contract). For the Inspire 4G, it was somewhere around $599 (free on 2 year contract). I got $119 for it on the program. If you've had the phone for a shorter amount of time, the value goes up (something like if you had turned it in between buying and 3 months, 100%, 6 months =60%, 1 year = 40% etc. not exact numbers but you get the picture).
Your best bet is to go there, tell them the program you purchased (trade-in or buy back... and if you have the original receipt, all good but if you don't they can look it up... Make sure they select the correct program because if you did in fact get the "Buy Back" program, the value is higher), then find out how much you can get back on the gift card. Also, they run programs like if you do upgrade/buy and new phone, they give you an extra 25% that goes towards the new phone... and check their Reward Zone specials on upgrading your phone because that can get you major points as well
Check their calculator http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Misc/Buy-Back-Program/pcmcat230000050010.c?id=pcmcat230000050010

eBay and Craigslist is your friend. May be difficult to prove a clean ESN vs selling a GSM phone but it's worth more then $50.

I would have given you $100 for it and then you could have gone to bb and done price matching and if price went down again you could go back and get even more money back from bb. I will never buy directly from sprint again. Plus insurance with sprint is $11 a month with sprint plus a $200 deductible. It only cost me $7.50 a month with no deductible plus a loaner phone if I need it. Buy back for most companies is a joke. I'm thinking of advertising on cl that I will beat any local buy back by 30% and then turn around and sell phone for a profit.

Purchasing the One on a new contract, then cancel at day 15 and pay ETF?

Ok, I'm trying to weigh my options here. I have unlimited data and have no plan on ending that until they force me to. I have looked around and have found that a new HTC One still tends to go for around $500-550.
However, Verizon's ETF is $350, and now that the One can be had on contract for $50, it seems to me I could have the phone and only be out $400.
I actually ran this plan by a Best Buy employee as well to see if they could warn me of any pitfalls, and the guy said there would be no problem. But, I seem to find you guys know more than the guys at Best Buy or Verizon! So, here's what I had in mind...:
- Start a NEW LINE of service, not at all linked to my existing account, get whatever cheapest plan they have, and get the One for $50
- Wait out the 14 days "worry free" period, so that I am past the point where they would just want me to return the phone
- Cancel the service, pay the $350 ETF (plus a possible pro-rate for the half-month of service?)
- Profit!
Are there any catches? Any pitfalls? ANY way that I can screw myself over by doing this? Also, at what point can I switch the SIM card from my current phone over to the new phone? Right away or do I have to wait til I cancel the service? Do I need to do anything on the Verizon website as well? I have bought a phone outright for my wife and just switched the SIM and it worked fine.

Ok so as far as you know, what is the cut off where they can no longer ask me to return the phone, but will not charge me the full retail price of the phone either? After conversing with the Best Buy guy, he said this cut off is 14 days, after which they will not allow me to return the phone, and would only charge me the ETF, not the full price of the phone. Is he full of it?

NOT TRUE. I just opened up a new account to get the phone for $149. It was my only choice since I have a concession account and Verizon would not sell me the phone unless they could attach it to a consumer account and I wasn't about to pay $699 at Best Buy. I cancelled the next day over the phone. The rep told me I was within my window to return the phone. I told him that I wanted to keep it and he said that was absolutely fine. Got my final bill about 2 weeks later and was charged $350 ETF, 1 day service $3.50, and $11.48 in taxes. They tried to charge me tax on the Activation fee which they eventually reversed since the account was cancelled within the first 3 days. In the end I paid a total of $565. The cheapest retail is at a VZW corporate store at $599. I was satisified.

great info here, thank you. This is right in line with what I was expecting. Based on your experience, and the fact that the phone is now $50 on contract, I would say $465 is probably a good ballpark figure for what I should expect my total out of pocket cost to be for the phone.

If that is what they told you, that is complete bull****. That's a bs line that INDIRECT stores tell their customers. I know this because I was a store manager for one. The indirect retailers get paid when you buy a phone. When that phone/line is canceled a DAY before 6 months in term, they get their money taken back from them. Any new line or upgrade needs to be active for a complete 6 months before they are free and clear of returns and chargebacks. You tell them to shove it and call their bluff...Corporate Verizon should have NO problem doing this, I've seen it done. Hell....I've done it, but do it at your own risk because I don't work for corporate and never have, so idk what kind of guidelines they have about these types of things...
EDIT*** I thought you said the store TOLD you that, I misread. You WORKED for Verizon? Was it corporate or indirect? I've done this before, and have helped friends do it as well and there were no issues....

great info here, thank you. This is right in line with what I was expecting. Based on your experience, and the fact that the phone is now $50 on contract, I would say $465 is probably a good ballpark figure for what I should expect my total out of pocket cost to be for the phone.

Sounds right. I picked mine up from the same store that refused to sell the phone to me. I placed the order online and chose in store pickup. Phone was ready within an hour..

Pay full retail or do the 12 monthly payments split on your bill.

Ok, to play devil's advocate here.
1. Don't do it at an indirect. Best buy may be ok because they're large, and probably wouldn't notice/care enough to come after you with a chargeback. At my indirect you sign a separate contract saying if you cancel within 6 months, we will bill you full retail on the phone or you must return it to us.
2. If you cancel within the first 14 days, YES, corporate can bill your account full retail on the phone. Most carriers have a "gaming" department that handles cases like these.
(Source: I used to work in a gaming dept. Charged a guy full retail on 10 blackberry bolds )
3. You'll have the cost at the POS, a $35 activation fee, half a month of service, and the ETF. Just be aware of all of these.
4. When you call in to cancel DO NOT say it was lost/stolen. Don't want your ESN getting flagged
