I did a quick search and didn't see this posted anywhere. I recently purchased the Motorola car dock from amazon. It comes with the splitting charger cable and audio out port. The phone charges perfectly but the audio out doesn't seem to work. I plugged it into the auxiliary port of my car but the sound still goes out from the speaker of my phone? Is there an option that I need to set or is it because I'm using CM7? I might try Aura later and see if I have the same problem I just wanted to see if anyone else was having this issue also...

It's CM7. Car dock audio out is built into the Blur framework as far as I understand it.
Ah that's what I thought. Damn...I don't wanna lose CM7 but at the same time I really would like audio out supported...decision decisions.

It's on the official bug list for the beta and the devs have accepted it. Meaning they are working to get it resolved. It's only a matter of time and considering how quickly they got this up and running it shouldn't take too long.
Where can I see the bugs that are currently being worked on and the ones that are resolved?

CM7 has dock audio setting if you drill down in the menus. Maybe the USB/audio out cable controller is proprietary because CM7 doesn't detect when it's put in or taken out of the dock. It's like the phone just thinks it's a regular power cable.
I just got my car dock today, so this bug came as an unpleasant surprise, but I'm very happy to have the camera working now, so I'll stick it out with the devs and hopefully this will be fixed in three revs or less too
Lol. My official atrix Car dock didn't detect on stock, even after I factory reset .
Oh, well. At least it charges.

It will work on Aura because it's based on the OEM Blur ROM. It'll be the same with Alien and any other pre CM7 ROMS, even the "Deblurred" versions because they just clear out certain apk's and not the base framework.
And CM7 will recognize the dock and start Car Dock automatically, it just does not have the audio out capability. Also some people are saying it only does a trickle charge not a rapid charge. I haven't tested that out yet but you may want to watch it.

I just flashed beta, and it does not detect dock at all. When I plug in the phone it behaves exactly as though I plugged in a regular power cord. I did a factory reset and cleared the cash, I even tried flashing a different kernel... Am I missing something?
Only thing I can think of is to make sure you are using the cable that came with the car dock and not another charging/sync cable. I double checked mine just this morning and Car Home starts when I place it in the dock.

Good find, thanks for posting!
I read some bad reviews about it, I guess the usb port is for charging only, not computer connectivity. Can someone confirm that?
That is correct, I havent been able to do any development while using the dock. Also, I havent been able to get the Audio Out to cooperate. Looks nice though.
Apparently the audio-out won't work until 2.2 is released. Don't understand why the computer connectivity won't work though. I have two of these things. Works fine as a charging only station next to the bed.

I tried the audio out on an old 2.2 Cognition build before; it works. But yeah, I really don't get why this doesn't connect to the computer.
I just got mine, so I thought I'd do an impromptu unboxing.
One thing I noticed is that desk home FC's on Cognition 2.3b6 when I try to change the weather settings, so I likely won't be using that too often. I haven't looked for other desk-friendly software, so I might just use this as a place to keep my phone while I work.
Despite having 2.2, the speaker jack out the back does not seem to work for me. That, combined with the fact that the dock itself covers the speaker port, unless I find a way around that, I will not be able to use it as an alarm clock dock. It doesn't fit as tightly into the dock as I hoped it would, but part of that is the phone's design, I'm sure.
Is there any iHome, iPhone style radio dock for the Captivate? Something you could say dock and then play Pandora through the docks speakers?
I use my Logitech Pure-Fi 2 sound dock from when I had my iPhones. They have a 3.5mm jack in the back so you can connect your captivate with a 3.5mm -- 3.5mm cable.
I use a bluetooth piece from Creative Labs

I haven't found anything like that. The closest thing is something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0PK95M6DQN8QKCRXG0HY
I have one and it does have a 3.5mm head phone jack on the back of it which you can connect to speakers. The problem that it only works if you are playing stored audio from your phone. If you play Pandora it will not work. I don't really understand it. I stopped using it because I would have to take off my Outterbox Commuter case any time I wanted to dock it... so it became pretty useless.

You got that to work? I thought the 3.5mm jack only worked with Froyo, and people who have Froyo custom ROM's haven't been able to get it to work . . . sucks about Pandora, for sure, but I'd be interested to know how you got the dock to work at all.
I take that back... it doesn't work. Sorry for the misleading info.
I have the one from Samsung and it does work...nicely by the way. I thought it would be difficult plugging it in because the jack is so small but I do not have a problem with it... doesn't make much sense to think that a dock made by Samsung for a phone that ships with Eclair wouldnt work, with Eclair. Pandora and everything works completely fine. Even pulls up my Better Alarm Clock app, which is kinda like the Desk Home app, when it is plugged in. Definitely not as nice as the Ipod Docks with radio and CD player and all that but the phone is loads better than an Iphone so I look past its shortcomings.

I understand that and I have cyanogen mod which has the cardock app. I'm looking to make my own hardware cardock. I have seen people use USB and magnets and such on other phones but what I'm trying to attempt is to lose 1 cord hanging from the phone.
Is it possible to charge phone and play music out of just the micro USB port of the phone. I hate having wires running out of the top and side. Its a hassle to plug in two if I can do away with one.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
you'll have to find out what is triggering the phone to output analog audio over the USB lines. I'm assuming, there is a voltage put on pin5 of the USB (ID pin) telling the phone. "You are in a cardock. Load cardock application. Route analog audio to the USB pins". Again, I'm ASSuming it is using the data +/- lines as L/R audio outs.
I have 0 proof of any of this. Just as an EE, how I might do it. In short, it'll probably cost you more to build one, than to just buy the official on off ebay/amazon.
Also, since you're using Cyanogen, as am I -- with cardock and desktop dock, Cyanogen does NOT hve the ability to route audio through USB yet. You'll have to use the 3.5mm jack or bluetooth(?).
Ohhh that sucks... I'm sure cyanogenmod will fix that soon. Guess ill order the official. My main issue is I'm going to run this behind the dashboard so no hanging wires. Also not taking up my cigarette lighter. I didn't want to cut up the original cardock but I can manage. Thanks. Ill keep looking around.

Does the Motorola atrix car dock only plug into the USB port of the phone or does it use the HDMI port as well?
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Only the USB not the HDMI.
You can put all the resistors you want, but cyangen as a ROM doesn't do it. Otherwise, it should work with the official one. I doubt it will work with a generic one, or a homemade one.
If this feature is a must for you, then go to a Pi variant of the official rom. That works great. I had like 17-18 hours on a charge. With 8 of those streaming pandora at work.
I froze the CarDock application on my Pi rom, and everything still worked (audio through USB.)
If you want usb cables, www.monoprice.com.
As for the HTC thing, make sure it is not a properitary connector to HTC phones, like the motorola docks are to motorla phones. Ie) The Resistor on pin 5 of the HTC one might be 100k, while the one in the motorola one might be 200k.
Seriously, its easier to get the official one. Theres only one cable from the dock (microusb) Which splits into a USB-A and 3.5mm. And you can get extension cables from monoprice.
Good luck.
Wow... thanks. I meant to mention I have an extended battery so the phone is bigger than stock. And I wanted the ability to buy a new phone and keep my DIY Dock installed. But HTC and Motorola differ grrr.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
You found out for sure? I'm not saying there ARE, but they MIGHT be.
That sucks man. The battery pack probably won't fit on the cardock, it MIGHT on the regular dock. But the car dock has a back to it, and a latch that latches on the phone side. I HATE cases, and prefer skins. I had to trim the side of the skin from corner to corner on the USB side, just so it fit into the docks...little room for anything larger than stock phone.
I suggest...hacking up the official cardock or maybe the regular dock (instead of one cable, it has two jacks -- a microusb and a 3.5mm), and using a Pi-rom.
Ok so my goal to achieve is.. a permanent hidden wire behind the dash.
Kind of blows motos differ from HTC.. puts a kink...
I also hate cases but! With this extended battery my phone EASily lasts 2 days with decent usage. Like navigation all weekend. I had my stock back and battery in today with moderate use like Pandora at work and I was 10% by lunch. Possibly because I wiped the battery stats this morning from the Tom change. Allso I hear there is a battery drain in cyanogenmod.
I'm going to search up the pi-rom
I will most likely sucker up and buy the moto dock and use my stock battery :-(
I hate to cut the dock up when u can always resale it with the phone with the attrix 5g comes out lol

so i have to use tenfars cwm, flash radio...
flash romracers recovery...

Why cant everyone just make compatible things with cwm recovery from rom manager
I got it installed. Not too thrilled it seems like a themed stock rom. I will deal with it until progress on cyanogen goes further
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
you have to remember this particular rom came out right after the bootloader unlocked. before Cyanogen even started.
All there was was 4.5.91 so every custom rom was based on that.
It was also done before a lot of the other clockworkmod recoveries were around... tenfars was the only viable one at the time. Hell, I even tried CWM's and it didn't work for C7 either. I still had to go to romracers recovery .
It is a themed and somewhat debloated 4.5.91, says so right in the description.
Extremely stable. Use Titanium Backup to freeze some other processes and you should easily be able to get 17hours on one full charge with 8hours of that streaming pandora over HSPA (stock battery). I do that all the time at work. And to top it off, the dock functions WORK.
I also changed from the launcher it comes with to ADW...to give it more of a stock feel.

I've been running π crust lately. It's pretty good. Not a fan of most of the themed roms.
I actually restored back to c7 because my home button quit working.
I noticed battery performance right off the bat with pi crust. I liked having blur but not logging in lol. The sticky notes from it are nice.
17 hours on stock battery with 8 hours streaming Pandora sounds nice. I actually stream 3hours of I heart radio in the morning than switch to Pandora.

So I just got my Verizon SG3 and I have the Infuse 4G car dock which everyone says is working wonderfully (It fits perfectly!). I have two problems however, and was wondering if anyone could help me troubleshoot.
1. The stereo output does not work. I have the phone on the dock in my car and when I plug an audio cable in the output on the dock it does not work, when I plug the cable into the stereo jack on the phone it does work.
2. Only a car outlet adpter to USB jack will work to charge it. If I plug in my dedicated car charger (not coming from a USB port), it will not charge the phone.
Any help with these two small issues would be awesome, thanks so much!

You have to go into settings-»dock to change the audio output.
Also, it is a very tight fit. Make sure it is all the way plugged in to the dock. I would recommend using the headphone jack on the phone however. I find the dock audio output to be somewhat noisy when using the audio out on the dock. Ymmv.

What do you mean noisy? Like cause the power input is right there? Is there a buzzing?
Yes, buzzing. I had the samsung droid charge dock and it was the same way with that phone. Maybe its a samsung thing.
Changing the audio out option in dock settings should have fixed your issue with the sound. No clue why your dedicated charger isn't working other than maybe not enough amps......just a guess there.
As for the noise/buzzing issue.......could be a grounding issue with your car or the cables aren't pushed in all the way. I used this dock for a good week and it sounded perfectly fine. The only thing I changed was the EQ settings in whatever app I was using. I'm using poweramp now with the EQ turned off and it sounds great.....no noise or buzzing. My JVC deck does all the EQ fine tuning it needs.
I ended up disassembling the Infuse dock and pulling the PC board out. This has allowed me to keep my case on my phone. I am using the exomount holder and just ran a microUSB extension from the PC board to the phone. So far, everything works great. In fact, just ordered all the same parts again last night to do the same setup for my Dad.

Here you go.
I do need to add that today I did notice some background noise at the end of a sound when it was fading out.....that was the first time I ever noticed anything. During regular listening, I don't hear anything. This may be solved by adding a ground loop isolator.
Anyway, here are the pics. The first couple are of the pc board from the infuse dock. The others are of the mount and cabling. The last is what the Google Car Home screen looks like.I moved things around and put the camera, messaging, and poweramp apps on the home screen.
Let me know if you have any questions.

By the way, the case I have on there right now is the Diztronic Matte Black TPU case. Waiting on the Otterbox Defender.
The wires you see on the second to last pic are tucked under the dash....I pulled them out to show how they were connected. The PC board from the Infuse dock is wrapped in electrical tape to keep it from coming in contact with anything.
That exogear mount was put in place a week ago and it shows no sign of coming loose so far.....really am impressed with it.

I am not rooted. Though the play store shows it is not compatible and won't let me install it, I was able to do a Google search and find a copy of it. It doesn't show up under apps after it is installed. But, once you plug in the dock, it will give you the option to use it.
I don't know if it is proper to put links to files such as this (even though the app is free), but do a Google search for "download google car home apk" and the second choice (droid-life) is where I got it (alt-link).

I replied in the other forum. As for the cable.....if you do what I did and want the phone to switch into car mode, then you would need a microUSB extension cable that uses all five wires.
I wasn't sure if you are wanting to output audio to a deck or if you just want to be able to charge and have the audio come from the phone.

The app I have is car home ultra. Right now I'm having to plug 2 cables in so I get why you did what you did. One cable would be alot easier. This is where I got the cable from. It uses all five wires which is what is needed to trip car mode. They have many choices. I am using the right angled one. I have used both the 24in and the 6ft one, both have worked fine.
I just got my Otterbox Defender yesterday and it fits fine in my mount. I must say that this exomount has thoroughly impressed me with how well it holds.

Hello everybody,
i've noticed that when i plug my DHD to the USB car charger, it begins to make an annoying background noise, just like an electric whistle.
Usually i've the phone connected to the car radio via AUX so i can hear it well.
As soon as i unplug the car charger, the sound stops.
It is not very loud but it is loud enough to make it difficult to understand some low quality phone calls. Luckly, PowerAmp and mp3s are able to cover it.
Anyone else has experienced this?
Any suggestions? I don't know...maybe i could fix it changing the AUX cable or the car charger for some better ones...
Thanks!

Odd issue..
Which ROM, Kernel & Radio?
Really?
Well, i'm sorry but i'm even happy i can fix this..
ROM: JellyTime (CyanogenMod) R30 (i had the same problem with IceColdSandwich)
Kernel: 3.0.57 JellyTime_R30 (default for JellyTime)
Radio: 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M (never changed it)
Odd..
I've used a few ROMs based off JellyTime and never had this issue..
I'll flash R30 and see what happens.
Are you sure there's nothing obstructing the ports?

You mean, like dust and dirt?
It seems clean to me but i'll clean it better with a vacuum, later...
Could it be caused by the car charger? It's a cheap one...maybe has some weird voltages or similar...

Don't use a vacuum! You might damage it.
It could be because of the charger. Link to it (if you bought it online)?

Hmm... I've got JellyTime running now and a generic in-car charger in my Mum's car. Aux audio seems OK to me.
Try reflashing the ROM or a different ROM (CodefireX Periodicals if you wanna stay JellyBean)
It's most likely a hardware problem, on the charger side to be precise... Try another one...
I have recently noticed this once with my phone plugged in the car. I listen to music over Bluetooth to the car radio and only once had this issue so far. Not sure why but like you said as soon as I unplugged the power, the problem was gone. I hope it doesn't come back again

Thank you, i really appreciate you help!
I think i will do the following tests:
- Use the same car charger (and same car) with another phone
- Use the same car charger and my phone in another car
If the problem follows the car charger i will buy (or borrow) a new one.
I'm don't want to change ROM only for this issue. I really like JellyTime....i'll think about it...

Yes, it's probably like that.
I've thought it could be my car, too, because it's old (a Citroen Saxo from 1998) and i those days the charger hole was used only to light cigarettes

Well not sure if the wiring in it is any different that today's "dedicated" 12V plugs... Anyway, try and fail method is the safest bet, do inform us what was the problem

I've replaced the car charger with another one (alway cheap) and it seems that the noise is gone away :good::good:
Simply changing the ROM didn't help, neither did changing the AUX cable.
Good to hear that mate.
I've had the same problem on old SE's, BB, X10, every charger (oem or plain), and almost every car.
The "sound" follows the gas pedal, like you'd have a turbine.
Simply said, adding gas sends more input to the plug than it can handle. It can't be heard until connected to speakers.
If you've fixed your dhd with a new charger, please post a link/exact model of the charger here, so I get myself one too
Edit:
" It's caused because the car charger doesn't have a dedicated ground but a shared ground."
