MIUI
I use MIUI because it's simple and fast. However, it doesn't support 4G.
i had a rooted evo 4g a couple months ago n i tried alot of different roms...my personal favorite was the kingsrom unleashed...it was fast as all hell n my battery lasted for days without a charge...unfortunately i have a shift now so i cant use the rom anymore...sucks big balls

King and Team Nocturnal put out some nice pieces...Try Shooter its 3.0..I love it
I personally like the RCL1=Gmode that i running right now and the Mik3d is nice also but i had some lag issues that im sure is due to me not knowing how to tweak it correctly.
[AOSP] would have to be SalvageMod v1.4. [Sense] HTC Bliss Sense 3.5 - although it's still in early..

Haven't tried salvage but lithid is the truth so gonna try that out. Tried 3.5 and I love it and hopefully they get it working and leave drama at home.
AGGIE GIG 'EM EVO
CyanogenMod nightlies (they say they are buggy but they really arn't that bad at all)
Or
NocturnalBliss (still in beta, but very smooth and my battery hasn't dipped below 90% with little-medium use. I don't even have a sbc kernel.)
Nocturnal Bliss definitely!! It's still a beta, but its LIKE BUTTER BABY! lol.

Here's a PC36IMG to flash in boot loader.
Put the PC36IMG amon ra.zip on root of Sdcard and rename the file "PC36IMG.zip" (without quotes). Reboot into bootloader and it will scan for a PC36IMG.zip file and ask if you want to update and choose yes (volume up, i think.). reboot and then when you reboot to recovery it should be amon ra.
If I have forgotten anything, then just ask.

Okay, so I was trying to upgrade to the latest nightly for my mother, since she loves gingerbread now. So here is my issue, I know that I need clockwork mod 3.0 or higher to get the nightlies to work, I have gotten #14 to install with the old recovery she has on there now. But when I try to update the recovery it will either not upgrade or revert back to 2.5 upon reboot. For example:
If I try using fastboot to install, I get an error. I don't remember exact error, but its a long the lines of it can't install.
If I try using the PB31IMG.zip method, but it just detects the zip and wont install or anything.
If I install the recovery via the recovery, it will work for the one time it loads, then upon reboot it reverts to old one.
I tried installing the newest nightly with the old recovery, but it will just load and then soft boot and repeat forever till I pull battery.
I rooted the phone with the unrevokr root and recovery method, so I don't know if that has anything to do with my problems.
Any help would be appreciated.

Before you flash a new recovery with ROM Manager go into ROM manager settings and check the box to erase the old recovery before flashing the new one.
Then scroll to the bottom of the main ROM Manager menu and select all clockworkmod recoveries. Flash 3.0.0.8 since it has fixes for 3.0.0.5 issues.

Well I fixed it, was that I had S-On still enabled. I guess I'm so used to my nexus that I forgot that I needed that off to do that.

Some more details would be spectacular, such as which apps you're trying to use that give you that error. Do any other root apps work? What method did you use to root? Do you have the 'super user' app installed on your phone? When you boot to the bootloader, does it show Ship S off or Ship S on? What method did you use to flash the rom? Did you do it manually in recovery, or did you use ROM Manager?
When I boot to recovery it shows s-on. I don't remember the exact app name but it was used to manage power and cpu usage to boost performance. I used unrevoked root method found on xda.

Okay, you should be S off, not S on. Since you have custom recovery installed, you need to download the unrevoked forever s off tool, and flash it in recovery. Then boot back to your bootloader, and be sure that you're S off. At that point, I'd boot back to recovery, do a full wipe (data/factory reset, cache, dalvik cache, and flash calkulin's format all.zip), then reflash your rom. See if it works after that.
Much appreciated friend. To be continued.

Not a problem. And if you are on the newest version of clockwork recovery, you may not be able to flash that Calkulin's Format all.zip. You may need to flash King's format all zip instead, which I will attatch for you. Just remember, that after you flash either of the Format all.zip's, you need to flash a new ROM before you boot up. Once you flash the Format all.zip, everything geti's wiped, and you won't be able to boot up.
So instead of calkulins use kingsmod? Now.I don't wipe again one I use kingsmod do I?

Correct, they both do the same thing, except king's is edify compatible, which makes it gingerbread and clockwork 3.0+ friendly.
Also...kings black titanium is my first flashed rom. I like it...but I don't want to miss out on something better. I am sure I will try other roms ...but in the meantime...any suggestions for performance and stability roms. http://goo-inside.me/gapps/latest/7/universal/ < gapps [google apps] you flash them in recovery after flashing a new gingerbread rom, its so that your market, gmail, ect installs and work. And CM7 offers a lot of customization, plenty of themes, ect. You can overclock your phone using setcpu or from settings > cyanogen mod settings > performance > cpu settings. The only real con is a few select apps don't have gingerbread support yet, like juice defender, I believe. And if you want to update your PRL, you have to flash a sense rom, update, flash back, but that's easy.
Okay so that zip file is the gapps for cm7 rom? Now is the cm7 fast and responsive and is it a gingerbread based rom? I've been doing this replying back and forth from my phone...havent done the research yet.

Okay now I am S-OFF. Thanks for the help guys...also...i was peeping in on mikifroyo 4.6, if i can get another lead on flashing roms...first data/factory reset, then wipe cache, then wipe dalvik, then i can flash new rom? Or do i need to flash a format all.zip first?
im running myns warm 2.2 i love sense i've been to cm7 and back a hundred times that with netarchy's 4.3.1 kernel is nice fast pretty decent battery life too but ya gotta give it day or so to see better life and lots of mods for myns too. id rather wait for gingerbread til someone other than cm to come out with one
well I just traded my epic for evo and im woundering how to root this phone, im confused because I have hardware version 0004 and the video I saw he had 0003, and then there two different recoveries, so idk witch is more popular with roms, Any help is apperciated
Go to unrevoked.com and use unrevoked to root your device. It is simple to do and arguably, the most trusted method. If you do use the unrevoked method, it will put the Clockworkmod recovery on your device. Although clockworkmod is darn good, I suggest that you flash amon RA v2.3 as your recovery. Instructions are very easy and installation takes less than 10 seconds to complete. Just post your questions and someone will assist you as quickly as possible.

Lots of good information in the thread below, the hardware version shouldn't be an issue anymore and it seems to be split as far which recovery to use. AmonRA has been more reliable in the past and has more options while clockwork will allow you to flash ROMs through ROM Manager.

We told you it was easy...LOL....Anyway, for a sense based rom, I recommend Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 5 and for an AOSP ron, I recommend Salvage-Mod 1.2.1. Be sure to make a nandroid backup of your current setup first to fall back on in case you don't like the roms you decide to try. After making your nandroid backup, wipe EVERYTHING except the SD card itself and then flash whatever rom you decide to try.

When I used to use the ClockworkMod recovery, I made it a habit of wiping at least twice before flashing, but with the latest amon RA recovery, I simply wipe once. Remember these unofficial rules:
Changing roms: Wipe EVERYTHING except the SD card itself.
Updating a rom with a nightly build: wipe cache & dalvik.
Changing kernels: wipe cache, dalvik & battery stats.
Anything else: wipe cache & dalvik

If you're using a sense based rom, I recommend a Netarchy kernel. I do not overclock, but many people do.You can achieve overclocking with setCPU. An. AOSP rom like Salvage-Mod has a built in setting for it.

I have tried cm7 savaged zen and deck roms and at this moment it seems that I cannot flash my alternate recovery thru rommanager. Also I have noticed That the Rom pickings are becoming slimmer on Rom Manager, anyone have any insight into what is going on there. and is there something i should have known before paying for Premium. (just curious)

Just unzip and put in sdcard/clockworkmod/backup. Be sure to wipe data, cache, dalvik, and system before restoring. Also just a heads up, because this is a fresh install the CPU will max out for a few minutes while android.process.media scans the phone. Good luck, i hope it works for you.

ok I'll give it a try late 2nite/2moro. even tho u say to put it in a cwm folder I'll assume 4ext uses that folder for backups. thx a bunch

Wait is there a way to fix this? On every reboot i have to let my phone just sit there, if I unlock it the phone freezes then reboots.

Not that I know of I just know that if you wipe the caches is it has to reschedule media scanning and takes a lot of CPU power on first boot

Gotcha, thanks anyway
no go on that. spent all day trying to get something to boot so I could put twrp back on so I could recover viper. I believe if u could boot that backup and let it run/settle then back it up and post it, it could very well work for me. many thanks for the effort triscuit

OK so I nanded back to the unbooted backup, let it load and ran through setup without putting a gmail account in, let it settle in for a bit and backed that up. Again I'll post the md5 with the link. Just unzip and hopefully this works for you.
