Flow Player Ads - About xda-developers.com

I love Xda and what you guys do and I know that ads are what keeps this site going but the flow player ads are loud and they play automatically. Is there something that can be down about this? When I click on a page now I have to scroll down to the bottom click stop and they still automatically play about 5 seconds later. Please help

Have flagged this to the admin.

i was coming here to ask about this also. i stepped away from my desk today and come back to pop music playing out of my speakers. i was less than thrilled. the reason the ad plays again is because they refresh every 30 seconds
i love xda and what yall do and how you foster the community and i understand that ads are a big part of how you're able to continue which is the #1 reason i have xda and a handful of sites that i love and visit regularly whitelisted on adblock but if this situation continues i'll have to adjust my settings.

I also have to mention how annoying this is. Especially when browsing at work, the ads are so much louder than the streaming radio I keep playing at low volumes. I'm forever having to mute the sound on my machine to keep my office mates from wondering what's going on.

How can these ads be blocked? This is a little disturbing and I don't like it. I understand they are selling ads, but give the users of this forum an option. Hidden to some, I'm getting several calls from friends of mine that use this forum about this. I'll just stick with the Android version until I can isolate the code and stop it from accessing my network.

Ended up using a flash blocking plugin in Firefox. 'Flashblock'

Post screenshots please please.

Pop-Out Banner Ads ANNOYING

Is anyone else having issues with banner ads on the portal page? I dont usually mind them. But lately if my mouse goes anywhere near them they pop out, take up half my screen, play loud audio and are just such a pain to exit out of. especially when they pop right back up a few seconds later.
dont get me wrong, i dont mind ads, im glad to see the site making money from them, but do they really need to have pop out audio ads

Could you get a screenshot if they are audio ads or ones that block the site off?

Spanish speaking ads?

Just recently began hearing Spanish speaking ads, I guess, as I don't speak spanish. I hear these when I get on XDA developers website using my PC. Anyone else experience this and is there a way to turn them off? Thanks.
WTF is up with these ads auto playing in the first place??? Embarrassed the hell out of me at work today when out of the blue, my computer starts blaring out SPANISH crap from an ad playing automatically. Could you not simply beg for donations from members like us instead?
EDIT: Ooops! That's what I get for switching from Firefox to Chrome. Ad Block Plus had been saving me from this garbage and I never saw them in the first place. Time to find a suitable equivalent for Chrome.
it has nothing to do with Chrome i'm On IE at work and it started playing
Happened to me this morning too, took me a while to find the ad, way down in the bottom right hand corner of the page.
They should NOT auto play and, esp after you hit stop it shouldn't start itself again a few seconds later. ANNOYING!!!

extremely annoying CLEARASIL ads with loud audio

At the bottom right of most pages there is a interactive flash ad for CLEARASIL which is not visible unless you scroll down to the bottom of the page, and yet has loud and annoying audio. for me it loaded on pretty much every page I loaded for a few minutes, even playing at the same time in different tabs. Seems like its the wrong sort of ad for a site like this, its extremely intrusive and distracting.

I believe it should be removed... If that's not the case, let us know.
I just had one a second ago... when your not expecting sound then all of a sudden it starts going, next thing you know the house wakes up and wife comes downstairs and boots me off of XDA. It's in all of our best interests to stay as covert as possible. Please make the video ads go away or make them silent.

We are trying to. Can you get us a screenshot of it, so we can pass that on to the company?
Its very annoying and even more annoying when you have lots of tabs open. I've installed an ad blocker and it does the trick
Sent from my Lumia 800 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

ads on XDA

Maybe its just me but, when I browse around the xda website, it seems like the frequency of ads that pop up on the screen is rapildy increasing. Also, the screen seems to jerk around alot as the ads are loaded up. I sometimes feel like I'm walking on a mine field that is shifting all about. It can be annoying and disruptive when I'm trying to go to a particular thread and such. I know XDA has to keep the lights on but Is there a way to turn this stuff off on a browser, especially on my phone. What do folks do to minimize this on xda.(Tap talk?) Thanks!

Random Audio Ads?

Anyone here noticing random Audio Ads on the new ZenFone 2 US versions? I've had the phone less than a week and have heard two (identical) audio ads for Toyota. One of them happened in the middle of the night when I was sleeping, and the phone wasn't doing anything. The other one happened just now I was a taking a pic of it. I couldn't see any running apps that would have Ads like this, and I'm not running any new apps that I didn't run on my last 3 phones...so the only thing I can think of is it's some sort of Asus built-in app? Or this phone is cheap because it's Ad supported??

I have had the phone a little over a week and have not had any issues like this.
Ad-supported phone.... That is an interesting idea... I really like this phone and if it turns out to be ad-supported, I would have to consider sending it back.
I suspect you have an app or a webpage open in your browser that is causing this issue.
You can bet I am going to be watching this thread closely.
Report back when you find out more.

Yeah, the first time it happened at 3:30am I thought it my be a rogue app or open webpage. but nothing was found. the fact it was the exact same commercial has me suspicious. I did realize I had one new app I didn't have on my nexus, the comcast xfinity app. But I don't know that to have audio ads unless you're watching content. I uninstalled it anyway, and scanned with malware bytes (clean). so I'm also very interested to see if it happens again.. I had my phone on vibrate only today too when the ad came on, and it was quite loud! A friend said it sounds like a rogue app, but it just doesn't make sense since I haven't gone with any other new apps, other than what's bundled on the Asus.
Anyway, I'll report back if it happens again, right before I wipe the phone and send it back to Amazon.
The phone is certainly not ad-subsidised. You've got a rogue app generating these.
