[MOD/ROOT/DXKH2] framework-res.apk for CRT effect only - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

Hi all,
This is the framework-res.apk for DXKH2 with CRT effect only
I have been looking around for such mod but have not found it anywhere and decided to mod it on my own.
I followed the instruction here by bruflot so its all thanks to him.
This requires root and works on either odexed or deodexed DXKH2 rom.
Unzip the file (it's not a flashable CWM zip), push via ADB or use file manager with root access capability.
Do a backup before you replace the system file. I am not responsible for any damage to your phone

Nice one..

too fast..?
hi,
does the effect move to fast? bcos i manage to do it by myself and found that it kinda fast...did u include this also
<bool name="config_sf_slowBlur">true</bool>
anyway i'm gonna try your files to see if the effect differ from mine...
update : it give no effect applying the slowBlur...mayb sgs2 too damn fast!

Yup. I actually tried it initially. However it does not show much difference.

Themes. Where to get the templates from?

so i kinda started to get into theming and im doing well i think lol but i wanna know how to get templates for the roms i wanna make a theme for i got one for el30 (thanks travmofosho) but i wanna try and theme cm7.2 beta 1 but im not sure if i would have to theme the orginal rom file or is there a certain way to get a template or something less than the full rom that i can just flash over it?
Well the key to theming is proper punctuation and grammar.
So start with that.
And really all you need to do is download a ROM and rip the files out. If you want to theme CM9, download CM9 and extract the appropriate files. Same for EL30.
I remember someone had the files pre-ripped and ready to go back in the day. Maybe you could be the one to pick that back up!
It depends on whether you want it to work with theme changer or not. If not then just pull the framework-res and systemui out of the ROM. But for CM7 if you want it to work with theme changer you will need to rip apart an apk that is set up for it like androidian or cyanogen from the ROM or download one that is close to what you want and mod that. If you google making a theme for cm7 a tutorial pops up in the list.
Sent from my PantechP4100 using xda premium
Lol, well alright, im just used to typing without caring. I'm not trying to get it to work with the theme chooser app. I just want it to be a flashable .zip since it seems that development for cm7 has kind of slowed down so I can use my theme until its updated. So basically all i have to do is delete all the files from the ROM and keep the things that get themed like systemUI.apk, framework-res.apk, and the other things?
And about making templates for other ROMs i would just make them and post them in the themes section..? I need an account to upload files though. I'll have to sign up with something.
XDA allows up to 12 Mb in a zip file which will handle most themes with a couple of system apps. And yup, you are good to. Just yank out the framework and systemui and have at it.

Not to hard you need to install java developer kit... and then the android sdk.. and install the resources for gingerbread or 2.3... once thats done get apk manager or apktool. you use apktool/manager to decompile the res and change the values/colors.xml.. its a little hard to explain to someone who just started youll get there though i did eventually.
You could always throw it into the kitchen and change the background color of the menus or change the text to white.
Sent from my PantechP4100 using xda premium
I think the kitchen would b an easier solution lol or at least just for now
But I'm having one other problem
I used a template provided by travmofosho (I think that's his name srry if I spelled wrong) and the bootanimation says "nashdogg" lol cuz he made that for him and I can't seem to get rid of it I tried applying a boot ani from the kitchen but it doesn't stick over it how could I get that out..?

If you don't mind, I would like to port that in my new custom ROM too. It looks cool.

i think i have minor down which image file they use. however, i assume the file has to compile under .9.png file method which is quite impossible for me to achieve as i am still learning.
so i can't really help you with this. i can be wrong in all this. sorry mate.
gotta continue with my rom.
Well in gingerbread the file is in systemUI.apk and its called status_bar_background.png
No .9png's to mess with. Im not sure about ICS though, if you wanna upload your systemUI I can take a look.
edit: no it doesn't i'm not on samsung sorry.

|MOD|NavigationBar|ICS

-You need a xml editor for this. Something like Notepad++
-This mod is untested because I dont have the device at the moment.
-Make a backup of your current framework-res.apk and Systemui.apk files
-After 2 weeks I believe I found all of what I need for this MOD after going through the framework and Systemui of my Galaxy Nexus
-This did work on my Galaxy Note
-Please try at your own risk
How To
1. Decompile the framework-res
2. In the values folder you will find bools.xml
3. Open up the file and search for "config_showNavigationBar"
4. This should be false, change it to True
5. Open up the dimens.xml and search for "navigation_bar_height"
6. Change the value there to either one of these because im not sure how it would look (25, 30, 35)
7. Recompile your framework-res.apk
8. Extract or Decompile the systemui.apk
9. Navigate to the drawable-hdpi folder
10. Download these NavBar_Icons images and place them in that folder
11. Zip or Recompile the systemui.apk
(OPTIONAL)
After completing the above
Disable the light on the capacitive touch keys(Home-Back-Menu-Search)
1. Decompile the framework-res.apk
2. In the values folder you will find arrays.xml
3. Open that xml and search for "config_autobrightnessbacklightvalues"
4. Change all values to 0
5. Recompile the framework-res.apk
Thanks!

People have always wanted them. We were just pushed aside by those who think only their opinions matter. Its part of ics and actually a cool feature. Bootanimations and Shutdownanimations [Updated - 1/4/2013]

BOOTANIMATIONS:
Stock JellyBean
Stock Sprint
Stock LG
Stock ICS
Nexus 7
Pac-Man
R2-D2
SHUTDOWNANIMATIONS:
Stock LG
Stock Sprint
DO NOT FLASH IN RECOVERY!
Make sure to have a file explorer installed to do these instructions, such as Root Explorer or (What I use) Root Browser Lite.
Steps :
1. Download the ZIP
2. rename it to "bootanimation.zip" or "shutdownanimation.zip"
3. push it into your /system/media
4. set permission -rw-r-r- a.k.a 644
5. reboot
6. PRESS THE THANKS BUTTON
7. ????
8. PROFIT!!!!!
Make sure you delete the old ones, "bootanimation.zip", "bootanimation_sprint.zip" and bootanimation_boost.zip or shutdownanimation.zip and shutdownanimation_sprint.zip"
Please let me know if these do not work or the link ever gets broken or anything like that.
I do not take credit for making any of these, I have found them throughout the internet and edited them to work with this phone, such as resizing the image. If any of them are yours then please let me know!
Mega, you seem to always be the first person to "thanks" my OP when I post anything. Haha.
Also, Almost done uploading. Decided to get an account at Android File Host, was just waiting to get approved for Dev. I am trying to take the stock Jelly Bean bootanimation and reverse it for a shutdown animation.
Thank you for your work.
Does everyone know, though, that the boot animation applications from the play store work as long as you adjust the proper settings inside the app?

No, has to be done by the directions.
Updated OP and added 4 more bootanimations.
Theoretically couldn't you do this for any file that's supposed to be a bootanimation?
For instance, I have a GS3 as well so I frequent those forums and have a couple bootanimations for that phone. I could just install them on the OG the same way you explained in your OP. Do you think there would be any problems that would cause a brick/bootloop issue because of the different dimensions of the screens?
Changing the Sound - Awkward Sounds
Heya,
This worked perfectly the above method by Epic. However now when I boot up I get the awesome nexus boot logo but still the same awkward sprint boot sound. With a look digging I discovered that the boot up or as in the phone "PoweOn_Sprint.ogg" and the bootoff "PowerOff_Sprint.ogg" all located in the same media folder "/system/media/audio/ui/" So now the question is lets start picking boot sounds (on/off) maybe the nexus 4 will be a good start.
Thank you in advance,
TheAceX
What I would do is just search up android boot animations and so far anyone I likes has work. As for the sounds, you can make the boot sound literally any song or clip you want, my power on is the ps1 boot sound which is awesome. You just have to convert the sound into .ogg with an audio converter program, rename it PowerOff_Sprint or PowerOn_Sprint respectively and make sure its capitalized exactly that way, then put it in the Ui directory.
I was gonna post a how to but no one showed interest lol

Not a problem. Thanks man!
You could always try using something like THIS to convert any audio files.
I haven't tried this service so I can't vouch for it, but I've used ones like it before.
Then you install it just like the bootanimations (naming them appropriately and putting them in the proper folder).

You shouldn't (it is really unlikely) have any issues.
They may look a little stretched or won't fill the screen.
If the animation is somehow broken, Android doesn't need it to boot.
I might already know the answer, but can I add this to the rom your testing? and tell which one you would like me to try.

So, after a few searches, both on Google and on the forums, I cannot find this mod.

Right, there's a bit of the top showing though, and I can still open the app.
Except for the one in the middle, because the page indicator is right there.
I would still prefer a modified launcher though.
But I'm using this until, hopefully, someday a modded touchwiz appears on the scene.
I remember I had one on my Galaxy s 4g.

Well, I'm a noob at decompiling.
So what I did was change the extension from framework-res.apk to .zip, and extract it.
In the /res/ folder there is no /values folder.
I've been searching for a bools.xml folder, but no luck.
Is this something that will only show by decompiling?
Or is the GN2 framework diferent from the GS3 one?
TIA
That would work to edit images. You need to use apktool (search it ) to decompile the file before you can edit those values. I will be home in about an hour if you can find somewhere to upload it i can take a look. However i believe if you look up apktool it will be pretty easy to do yourself. Just dont forgot to make a backup in case something goes off

Yeah, I've been following this guide, but I always get an error when decompiling.
Hmm, let me try a dropbox link.
Let me know if that was successful.
Thanks for all your help!
Modded framework

needs renamed because I'm lazy
Here is a flashable zip. Disregard it saying edge zoom. It's an old zip. It works on s3 may not be the right flasher for you but you can try it

Oh yes also. I looked at the guide you are following and got lost. There are several quality guides on this site. Here is a good one for beginners

Thanks for all your trouble.
However, I got the file on your first link, renamed it to framework-res.apk, and copied it to system/framework.
As I started to get a lot of force closes, I did a reboot.
This resulted in an endless boot loop, which forced me to pull my battery, get into recovery, and restore my system.
So back to the drawing board, I guess.
I still appreciate all your help. Thanks for using your time to help a stranger.

I'm uploading a zip to replace the modded with the original. Try installing from recovery and if that still boot loops try fixing permissions. Only thing i changed was the bools.XML
If it still fails you should be able to use this remove zip

So, you're saying flash the the zip on the second link in your previous post.
And if that goes wrong, flash the zip on this latest post?
I'm at work right now, but I'll try later tonight.
Thanks.

Funny I'm just headed out to work. The first post has a zip to install screen rotating. The second post is your unmodified original framework so when you try the modified again. if it does not work, you can replace with the original file from the second post instead of having to wait through a full reset
That does seem odd. Maybe it's the flashable file. It was for my gs3. I've replaced them with the update scripts from a Galaxy note 2 package. They are the same download links as before. I verified that it is the modified file there. Was there any error? Did you verify that it actually copied the file? Easiest to tell by looking at the date it was modified. Its really not that great of a mod anyway. The constant rotation gets annoying and this method doesn't give a toggle. Still try the new zips and see if that makes the difference

Well, I flashed the ScreenRotation.Zip, and while nothing wrong happened, nothing happened at all! Everything is just normal, no screen rotation.
Bummer, huh?
