Hi, my 6 week old xperia arc suddenly went dead and does not switch on. None of the led lights are on, whether I charge it with its cable or other chargers. I removed the battery and put it back on; tried the software update yet the PC can't detect the phone.
I would like to try flashing it before I take it to the store and test a different battery. Flashing seemed to work for someone in this thread with the same "symptoms" : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829850
I would be surprised if it was the battery after 6 weeks and an excellent battery life of one day and half throughout...
Could someone tell me how to flash the phone? Cheers, Alex
P.S.: Carrier is T-mobile, phone is great, can't say I regret switching RIM for Sony but I was expecting the software to be a bit more glitchy...
If it's of any relevance: if I press the power on button it vibrates a bit when its not connected to the mains. if I continue pressing it it vibrates a bit every 6/7 seconds. The leds are never on.
Have you tried the flashtool?
Try this :

More likely the battery or charger / cable is gone. Because if there is no LED what so ever then there is no power.

I've been away from the Xperia S forums for about 4 months now, since my Xperia S died. I've been using a Samsung Galaxy S II, but i'm pretty tired of it, don't like amoled screens, battery issues, constant reboots, radio problems and it goes on and on.. SO I want to try to revive my Xperia S.. Here is what happened:
4 Months ago, I had just finished flasing a Paranoid Android ROM (4.4.2 KK) and was setting up the phone, had just finished installing some apps and was testing some CPU Governors, I/O Schedulers and things like that, running AnTuTu and Quadrant benchmarks. In the middle of an AnTuTu bench, the phone just shut down (with about 50% battery left) and woudn't turn on again. When connecting the charger, the LED woudn't light up, the phone wouldn't vibrate, Vol Up + Power wasn't working, coudn't enter recovery/download modes. Hard bricked. So I opened up the phone and removed the battery, tryed plugging in again and nothing, so I left the battery outside the phone for a couple of days. After that, I made a quick "short circuit" with the batter, about 1/2 seconds, and plugged it back in, connected the charger and the phone came back to life. Now I could enter fastboot mode, so I re-flashed the stock .96 using Flash Tool, re-rooted, and re-flashed a newer build of Paranoid Android and everything was working fine again. I managed to backup all my photos and documents, and left the phone charging overnight while downloading some apps from the Play Store. When I woke up: dead again, but this time it's different. When I connect the charger the RED LED lights up, but it turns off after a couple of minutes. The rest is exactly the same: can't enter recovery, can't boot, can't fastboot, Vol Up + Power isn't working.. So I took off the battery and tryed a short circuit again, but this time nothing happend.. The first time the the cables heated up quickly and this time nothing happened. So I don't know what exactly is going on. Is the battery completely dead (2 years old phone)? Or is my device unable, somehow, to charge the battery? If there is no charge at all, the short circuit won't work.
Anyone with any experience or any guess? I'm searching for a new battery so I can test it but it's kind of expesive here, about 60USD. I can't stand the SGS2 anylonger, and I'm not buying any phone until the Snapdragon 810 shows up.
I'm having a similar problem: After installing uCyan everything except the battery drain (irrational jumps in the curve) seemed to work. Then at some point the phone died and now is in a charging (red light, some minutes), bootup loop. Sometimes it reached the sys to then instantly die again. I was able to get into TWRP when I fortunately saw the next bootup. But the battery is too low to get stock or any other recovery back. So everything seems broken. I have tried with two USB cables. The phone/battery is over 2 years old.
If any further actions could help, please let me know. Would also love to revive this phone.

try the rubber band trick from here.
Ok I will try rubber band trick then. I think I already did it two times. I would have liked to avoid flashing the stock.ftf back and then doing again the unlocking, rooting and custom ROM flashing.

I thought You hadn't done that. You don't need to unlock bootloader again even if You flash stock ftf. And if You intent to flash a Kitkat or Lollipop based ROM, then You can simply skip rooting and all and follow the method from here.
Hi folks,
My Z1 Compact has died a few days ago, and I was running Resurrection Remix (CM mod) ROM.
I was playing some music and I put it back on the charger dock with the screen facing backwards, and there was a little chirp coming through the speakers after which the phone was dead.
I figure I must have bricked it by turning it around, I had no idea it could damage the phone.
When connected to the charger it just gave a blinking red light. No sign of life otherwise. Cannot be turned on regardless of key combinations, and does not respond to hard reset button next to the sim card slot.
It's still under warranty so I sent it back for a repair, but the repair center refused it because it has a custom ROM.
Is there any way I can flash the stock ROM when the phone is like this? They're obviously able to reach some part of it because they see the software versions. (they sent me a screenshot)
I had a similar brick two days ago.
Z1c was playing music and suddenly became death. No response to anything, even charging led. I press power + volume up and force reset was done, with blinking led and three vibrations.
But didn't boot.
PC didn't recognize it. Nothing.
Yesterday I connect to wall charger while pressing volume up and it displayed charging status (from 75%) and the It booted.
Now my battery has this status.
Edit: can't upload screenshot. By the way battery staysed at 50% for hours then dropped.

Well I think I bricked mine when I put it the wrong way on the charger dock. I was afraid it would have burnt the circuit board, but since the repair centre can see the phone details over USB I guess it must be ok, so my next guess is that the battery is dead.
They're sending it back to me today and I have nothing to lose by trying different things.
The phone doesn't vibrate though, when connected to the charger the light blinks red. It doesn't react to any button being pressed.

You probably have the battery drop problem that is discussed on the help section...
If you mean this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...ttery-reporting-phone-dying-suddenly-t3095120
Then it's definitely not the same issue.
I cannot switch my phone on, I cannot reset it, and I cannot charge it.
To be honest I'm more interested in getting the custom ROM off it so that I can send it back for repair, if it had stock ROM they would have replaced whatever died.
Hello all,
I have a htc desire 820 single sim. I had absolutely no problems with baterry etc.. This phone has only 4 months - i didnt put it into water.
I have unlocked bootloader and rooted my phone 3 weeks ago but it was running with no problems. I didnt install any aggressive software that may brick the phone. I just wanted to get access to all files.
So two days ago in the evening i just installed Skype app and wanted to download a file sent by my friend then in the moment that i was downloading my phone suddenly went off - just like there was no batterry etc (i remember it was more than 30% of batterry). I couldn't turn it on - 0 react. I tried to charge him - the orange led is blinking with 1 sec frequency. I left this phone overnight and still nothing - now its 2nd day that its charging and still nothing. I doubt it was a virus becouse i recieved this file on other phone without any problems.
I tried:
-volume buttons - booting in loader = nothing
-plenty chargers, cables = nothin
-charging via pc usb = nothing
-phone is not detected in pc after i connect it (just orange led blinking)
My question is, what actually happened? What else could i do to try to unbrick my phone?
The day before it got bricked i accidently let it fall down on the ground but frim 40cm distance (i have a silicone cover around) = but i didnt notice anything after falldown.
Thank You for any advices.
I think it's battery problem. I had something similar with One X. You can try leave your phone plugged in to charger (try every micro-usb charger that you have in home) for a night. LED should turn green, if not I recommend send it to htc for battery change or to "professional service" in your city Good luck!
Tighten two volume buttons and the power button when you see a black screen and holding down the volume- and power button that would go to bootloader.Telefon must be connected to kompyuteru
Im trying plenty chargers and cables at the moment - for now= 0 results @vuk1963 i tried your method but 0 react from the phone - just like before.. totally dead- just this god damn blinking orange led..
Edit:
WOW... my phone is alive!! All i did now was:
I tried charger from my galaxy core (same amperage like htc 820 = 1A) but i used original cable from my htc charger. The led was still blinking so i decided to "knock" the back panel (around the place where connector from batterry is), then i pressed vol+ and vol- and power button for around 20-30s, then i pressed vol- and power button for around 30s then i released everything, then i pressed power button for 10sec and my phone turned on!!! im so happy! my phone is still on warranty but i live abroad now so i need to send it to my country to start warranty procedure but no im free of this!
Thank You guys for pushing me to try once more the magical tricks with cables, chargers and buttons
Btw.
My batterry is now 100% = that means it was charging all the time?
i don't know what was that but i am happy that it work now.
Thank You guys!
The phone was overheating and it stopped!
Leaving it for a while, then the combination of buttons did the trick.
Great to hear.
Send it back to htc, mine had the same problem. There is no way they will find out u are unlocked or rooted since it wont start. The problem is the motherboard failed. I got mine back with the motherboard replaced.
hi.
my xperia arc (lt15a) has all of a sudden stopped responding to the charger - it won't charge at all!
tried other cables, tried connecting the usb to a desktop pc - but no respond!
the battery was at ~40%, and during the night I connected my powerbank to the charger, and the Arc to the powerbank (so trying to charge both of them simultaneously - something I never did).
in the morning I discovered that the phone didn't get charged.
I didn't worry much - I thought it was a bad cable, so I let the battery drain completely to 0%. but later I have discovered that it wouldn't recharge at all, and won't respond to a charger or a pc.
I have tried several things - which probably got the battery to get very drained-out. So now, if I try to power-on the device, it wouldn't turn on at all (it could turn on before), and the led near the micro usb port blinks in red for 3 times.
there is a very very tiny chance that a micro drop of rain got into the micro usb port, before the problem had started. But now I can't see any corrosion - maybe I don't know how to recognize it well enough? Anyway, I have tried to clean the port with alcohol and with electronic cleaning solvent (tuner cleaner) - but the phone still doesn't charge. maybe I didn't clean well? I really tried my best!
this Arc has mikeioannina's CM11 from 17.4.2016 - I used it for several months until now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2545354
the last thing I could do before the battery totally drained out was to enter the recovery mode (by turning the device on while holding the volume-up button), and then performing a factory reset. but it didn't help.
and I also want to mention that initially when the problem had started, when I connected the charger, sometimes the legacy xperia logo had appeared - but without the battery indicator afterwards (the phone just went off afterwards). now even this don't happen, and the phone doesn't respond at all to the charger. that's why I think it's a software problem, concerning the 3rd party rom that I've installed.
the mistake I've made was that I didn't try to reinstall the rom while there was still enough energy in the battery.... but I was abroad, and busy, and without a PC - so I couldn't perform it even if I was aware of the problem and wanted to solve it.
I don't have another battery or an external (desktop) battery-charger. and I am not enthusiast at buying these for this old phone (unless people here would be certain that it would definitely solve the problem).
I really want to keep using this device for a few more months - until the galaxy s8 / lg g6 would be released. I don't want to buy the current devices.
So could anybody help me?
hey i can help

Z5 Premium not turning on
hello everyone,
PLEASE HELP ME!
My z5 premium was working fine.. battery was charged too, and suddenly it turned off, and it didn't turn on back again. I've tried all the different ways and solutions that should turn it back on:
hard reset didn't work
2 minutes hard reset didn't work
hard reset button didn't work
plugged it in using it's OEM charger and usb cable didn't work either and LED didn't lit up
plugged it in to the computer nothing happened, wasn't detected with no sign of life
I had to take off it's battery cover (using professional tools) unplugged the battery, connected the phone to the charger while the battery is unplugged, and nothing happened reconnected the battery back, and plugged the phone again to it's wall charger, and no sign of life.
i left it there all night long since the afternoon. and when i came back in the next morning to check if the phone is charging and the LED is lit up, but again NO SIGN OF LIFE!
(BTW, the phone is in mint condition and it was never been disassembled or repaired)
Please if anyone have an idea what this could be?
if anyone has encountered the same problem and went through the same of what I've been, and was able to repair it or find a solution PLEASE LET ME KNOW!
Now, I'm thinking of 2 things: either the battery is completely dead(damaged) or it's the mainboard which I don't hope to be.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS!
Now, forget about any sort of software repair, as I explained above, the phone didn't succeed in that.
So, any help or suggestion would be so much appreciated.
Thank you all for taking time in reading and participating in this topic.
Have a good day.

Not happy reading this thread. Why so many issues with Sony Android... Anyway;;
- I recently had the same issue - or an issue in the same ball park. Phone Just died and refused to charge, but would show a red LED and try to boot when plugged in.
- Sent it to Sony, Hoping it is only a dead battery
The OP sounds like a they have a USB port issue or a board issue, also OP phone will no longer waterproof after removal of cover.
Unclear as to whether you have tried the following;
- Turn on whist holding camera button instead of Volume up/down. it is worth a try
- Try to grab an official sony charging cable- basically impossible to buy nowadays, maybe a PS4 controller cable? try it
My stock unrooted Z5p died like this in April. Have the same issue as the OP and tried all the same solutions. My Z5p had only been used indoors for months with WiFi before sudden death. Replacing the charging port did nothing. Using the OEM cable and charger with a new battery gets a 2 sec red light when connected to power and starts booting up until the swirls (gets past Sony Xperia and powered by android screens). Then the screen goes dark and shows the big battery for a couple of seconds.
I didn't realize there was a sudden death problem with Sony phones until I started trying to fix this. What's even crazier is that I had (have) the Xperia Z, Z Ultra, and the Z2. The Z2 was used in the rain constantly and even survived an ejection from a handlebar mount at 15mph onto asphalt. (All these phones were rooted and using custom ROMs/kernels.) Seems like Sony has a serious QC issue they're not taking about.
