[Q] Installed 2.3.4 - soft key backlight issue - Defy General

Tried searching all over but didn't find much info on this... yesterday, I successfully installed Gingerbread 2.3.4 on my Defy using instructions in the guide by boonhoong (thanks for the great guide, btw!).
Anyway, everything seems to be working fine, except the backlight on the soft keys - it turns on / off normally but is always at FULL brightness, no matter what setting I use for the display. I am pretty sure this wasn't the case with the stock Froyo rom - the soft keys used to dim with the display rather than being at 100% all the time when turned on.
One thread on another forum mentioned this same issue and cocluded it was a h/w incompatibility with GB (this was a Droid 2, though). Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

is if it can help

I believe it uses the light sensor to turn on/off the softkeys baklight....test that see if it works....

[Q] Softkey lights problem after installing .zip from UOTKitchen

Yesterday after installing a zip from UOTKitchen i noticed that my softkey lights would not turn off! Normally they dim after about 15 seconds but they would not turn off at all. Not only am i concerned about the battery life but it is also quite annoying. One more thing is that now the keyboard lights will not turn on! Any help appreciated!

This happened to me as well. I'd be very interested in a solution.
So far I've tried restoring old backups w/ data wipe, reinstalling CM from scratch w/ data wipe, and formatting the system folder from clockwork.
I've also tried changing the CM backlight display options as well as the automatic brightness and none of it is working =/
I tried changing ROMs completely (Pure Stock, GingerSense, etc) and it fixed the problem. But when I switch back to a CM ROM - regardless of which version - the problem returns. I can't explain why this is happening now since it worked before and why other ROMs fix the problem.
I've tried switching ROMs around noticed that the other ROMs are also exhibiting backlight issues although not as blatant as CM.
The sensor appears to work properly since the backlight is fine as long as the LCD display is on. So since this now appears to an issue with my /SYS files, is there a way for me to get a new version of them or something?
Any help would be great.

Checked out the files via ADB. When the LCD display is on, I can adjust the button backlights easily.
Once the screen goes off, I am no longer able to adjust the lights. The 'brightness' file is set to 0 (as it should be) but the light is very clearly on. Editing it to other values does not change the intensity of the light.
Since this seems to disprove that there is something wrong with the /sys files, I can only assume this is some weird hardware issue now. I guess it's back to T-Mo...

[Q] Proximity sensor

Hi,
I have a problem with proximity sensor and sometimes I can't hang up.
This is quite annoying when I get an answering machine because I have to remove battery.
I've installed HTC official 2.3.3 and I've notice that it's possible to unlock the screen during a call by pressing the power button and I'm fine with this solution.
However I prefer some other roms but it is not working the same way...
Do you know if there are other roms which have the same functionnality (power button to unlock the screen during call) as the official one? and preferably a sense rom.
Thanks
btw
I have already tried acesmod007, insertcoin and oxygen without any success.
As I could not find any ROM working the same way as the official one, maybe I should try to get the appropriate app from the official ROM.does anyone know how I could do that? Which app or files can I copy from the official ROM?
Or is it more complex to do?
Do u use some protecting screen or something that dosnt leave free the proxymity sensor (on the top at the phone) ?

No i'm not using a protector...I think there's dust on the sensor because when it's sunny it's working properly.I tried to vacuum it but the result isn't satisfying...
Coolexe rom with sense 3.5 works the way I wanted
Merci coolexe
Cool 3D Aces
For those who have the same proximity sensor problem:
This one is also working and has less bug than the bliss rom

Hi
I had the same problem using Leedroid 2.3.3 R5 (moving from Oxygen 2.2.2).
I had underclocked to 245mHz (I think)
I think I may have hit on a fix (only tried it today and it appears to work fine dialling with stock dialler and Contapps) :
Re-flashed Oxygen (full wipe incl cache and Dalvik)
Went to CPU settings
Changed CPU clock settings to 575(?) mHz
full wipe again
Re-Flashed Leedroid
did full install, Titanium apps restore etc.
It appears to have solved the problem.
I have a sneaky feeling that it might drain my battery a bit faster but as I said I've only done it today and haven't ran the phone for too long yet
Hope it works for everyone!
*UPDATE* Looks like I spoke too soon, it's stopped working. I can get the lockscreen toggle (power button) working sometimes in Oxygen, but it takes 10-20 secs - not great.
Even tried raising minimum CPU to 998 and it still didn't work.
Sorry for raising everyone's hopes!
:s
**UPDATE THUR 4TH OCTOBER**
Messed around a bit - updated the SU app (after uninstalling updates) - don't know if that had any effect but it got rid of unable to update binary error
Now Using :
GINGERvillain 3.1
Kernel 2.6.38.4-defrost-bravo+ [email protected] #891 (comes with GV 3.1)
Still a problem with lockscreen but power button seems to wake it every time
Good luck
Actually I'm having a hardware problem with the sensor and I just needed a workaround.
With some roms it's possible to unlock screen using power button so my problem isn't fixed but at least I can end the phone call when needed.
I'm using cool3d aces and it's working fine.

Soft keys Stopped Lighting Up

The soft keys were lighting up just fine, I have installed BeastMod II vs 2.1 and am using Go Launcher everything seemed to be working the first day and now the second day, the soft keys do not light up anymore. Does anybody know why this has happened or a possible fix?
Edited: Idk their exact name, soft keys, on screen buttons. (If theres any confusion...)
did you install any new Kernel for BLN ?
@Allgamer, no i did not install any Kernals. Only the Rom mention and Go Launcher
Edited: Installed Jaug's Rom it started working now, could have been a rom bug...

[Q] EI22: hardware buttons don't dim?

After upgrading to gingerbread, EI22, I noticed that my hardware buttons don't dim any more. Under display settings, I do have keyboard dimming set, but it doesn't seem to help. Normally it shouldn't be a big deal, but I use my phone for a bedside clock, and they are kinda bright
So far tried with both Legenday and ICS ROMs, with 3-4 different themes, they all seem to do that
Any ideas?
Thank you!
Auto Brightness perhaps? Keep it on and I've heard it may dim the capacitive buttons.
Both controlled by the same driver.
Sent from my Epic 4G
Just tried different combinations of Automatic Brightness and Power Saving Mode, they both don't seem to have any effect
i wish we could disable those buttons at will but afaik it would require a kernel to completely disable them. or at least thats how kernels on the moment worked, they came with LEDon or noLED versions
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
So that's a new feature of 2.3 kernels?
It was fine for me on stock rooted EI22. If I flash any other ROM or kernel, they stay on in night clocks. It was like this for CM7 1024 build as well. I thought I read in the CM7 thread that it will be fixed in a new build, but don't quote me on that. ;P
oh, sweet! Thank you guys!
I have a similar problem with ACS ICS ei22. The lights simply never turn off when the screen is on even though I have the screen set for 30 seconds and the light set to 6 seconds.

[Half Solved] Please Help - Brightness Level reverts to 100% after reboot

After no reply, I'm editing the title and the rest.
System:
Phone: LG SU640
OS: Android 4.1.2 V30C V3 ROM by team TNT(SU640_TNT_V3_OK.zip)
Problem/s:
A)
1. After rebooting the phone, brightness reverts back to 100% and Auto Brightness is deselected automatically.
2. Screen timeout reverts back to 2 Minutes, no matter what I do.
Steps I've taken:
1. Flashed back to V10i_00.kdz, tried upgrading to V30C, then flashing the custom ROM by team TNT, this was done many times.
2. Tried apps to control brightness but even if something works a bit, it almost kills the games' like subway surfer or Air Attack HD's performance.
B)
I can't even run any custom rom since they lag like hell and are almost unusable.
I've run out of options. Will some experienced person please take some of his/her precious time and give some advice regarding these problems.? I'm stuck here an almost unusable phone. I'll be happy with anything that works properly.
I'll really appreciate it.
SOLUTION:
Get the ROM and Instructions link from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2373902
Follow exact instructions for flashing it and let the ROM settle for some hours, it may get stabilized after a few Reboots.
Avatar ROM isn't behaving well, neither is AOKP. Heard good feedback about CM on this model.
Edit: Brightness problem isn't just on this model, I've been told that LG LU6200 has the same bug so it is software related.
When you select 100% Brightness, and then you check auto brightness, nothing happens. It works only when you lower the brightness slider, yes, you can still adjust brightness slider when it should be disabled. LG should fix this.
Anyone with any suggestion at all?
I've done everything I could, please help me so I can use my phone again.
Does auto brightness work with any roms, stock or custom?

First of all, thank you for replying.
Yes, auto brightness works in Avatar Rom without any problems but the ROM itself lags like hell for some reason. I've tried MIUI unofficial too but the same lag.
It worked in stock GB too but then I flashed it and it stopped working. When I flashed it to ICS, Auto brightness settings used to stick at the boot but not anymore.
Auto brightness feature is adjustable through velis auto brightness program but it has a severe negative impact on the performance of any running applications. Experimenting with softwares revealed that the sensor itself isn't faulty.
As a last resort, I tried updating it with official lg online updater and it updated the stock rom to V30D. Now brightness settings reverts back, auto brightness is unselected and screen timeout goes back to 2 Minutes.
Very frustrating.
Edit: I'll be very happy if I can use Avatar ROM on my phone without any lag, then I won't have to rely on stock ROM.
Edit 2: I can't reply to any message via inbox. Whatever the problem is.
