Hello, I wasnt able to do it
Here are the details, I hope you can help me:
I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace, android 2.3.4 rooted.
I downloaded the FIRE animation from the OPto my PC, uploaded it to dropbox, downloaded it on dropbox on my phone, and opened it using ROM manager, using ClockworkMod recovery, as instructed in this thread.
In recovery mod, i got this message:

Try copying to another place on sdcard other than dropbox folder....also check the size of the file.Your download may have been corrupted for which you may have to download again.
If you had simply copied it from PC to mobile or downloaded directly on mobile it would have been easier.

I do not use a custom ROM, my phone already came with 2.3.4, can that be the reason it's not working?
If the above is not the reason...
I use the free verwsion of ROM manager, which I downloaded from the market, so I don't the problem is in this app. Is it possible that another app is "getting in the way" or something like that?
Thanks for the help

So you are not on custom rom.Thats why it was not working. If you don't want custom ROMs,the easiest way to get custom boot animation is to install a custom kernel like CF-root kernel which supports custom boot animation. Otherwise you have to deodex your firmware and follow custom boot animation tutorial the hard way.
nice, thank you!
i will try the Dancing Droid
Thanks

It is just ./data/local/ - /data/ is located in the root folder (same as system)
Did you try flashing this one? http://www.filefactory.com/file/b363f2c/n/update_ba_R2D2_Signed_Data.zip
I prefer to fully replace the boot animation in system/media to save space (but you do have to replace it every time you update) :/
I'm not sure why it isn't working, I just downloaded the files, and they're set-up correctly.
If you know how, you can copy it manually via terminal or adb.

badluck for me again....i flashed it but still m not able to see starwars animation i guess i need to download the bootanimation.zIP and need to use the terminal..
i guess you are right i need to clear the bootanimation.zip entry present in the system/media/ to upgrade it to another bootanimation
wot happen before when i upgrade it to the matrix bootanimation it worked and when i tried to go back to the default one (by deleating the entry in data/local/) I am not able to find the path so i again flashed by using terminal the default bootanimation.
lets see if i can get it by terminal.

If there isn't a bootanimation.zip in ./system/media/ or ./data/local/ then when you boot, the screen will simply go black after the initial G1 splash screen until the gui starts. The gui starts relatively quickly, but the rest of the OS takes much longer, so the wait time is the same.
Can you post mirror link trough 4shared or something please
Briefing
So, I've realised that in every single Gingerbread ROM thread, the developers are writing that to install their ROM you must be on Ginger or you have to flash whole XXJVK ROM via ODIN (about 150MB to download), if you're using any kind of Froyo now. When I was doing new version of my DebusROM, I've invited simple method to install the needed bootloaders and kernel with CWM.
How it works?
Method is simple. You just need to flash a small 8MB file via ODIN. It will flash Primary Bootloader, Secondary Bootloader (needed for Gingerbread) and the kernel with CWM recovery. The next step is to flash the ROM you want. It is much faster and light weight method than flashing the WHOLE JVK Gingerbread. It was tested by me in a few circumstances and It works!
Download
There is one version available, which is the most stable and safe one.
Gingerbread Starter with SpeedMOD K13E [DOWNLOAD]
ODIN version 1.7 [DOWNLOAD]
INSTALLATIONFirst of all, I'm not responsible for any black scenarios. This thing flashes bootloader, if it fails it means you have trouble. But don't worry it shouldn't
1. Download the right version from section above
2. Reboot your phone into Download mode
3. Connect your phone to computer
4. Run ODIN
5. Select Gingerbread_Starter_KERNEL_ODIN.tar.md5 as a PDA file in ODIN
6. Check the "Phone Bootloader Update" checkbox
7. Click Start
8. Wait until phone reboots and make it reboot into Recovery
9. Flash your Gingerbread ROM
10. Simple, isn't it?
Below, this is how should look ODIN before flash

You MUST check if Download Mode works or not, and if you can boot into recovery or not If Download mode works just flash bootloaders once again via ODIN, then flash ROM via Recovery. If recovery works, flash the ROM.

Google Edition Boot Animations etc.
Wanted to share > "The new Google boot animation and SunBeam live wallpaper that are currently exclusive to the Google Play Editions of the HTC One and Galaxy S4 have already been pulled and released for our tinkering pleasure. Thanks to the release of the GPL files (similar to factory images) for each phone by JBQ, members of XDA were able to get inside and pull out these two goodies. We’re still awaiting the arrival of the new Camera app, but we’ll take these two for now.
The boot animation is a .zip file that can be flashed through your custom recovery (yes, you need to be rooted). The files are 1080p wide, so it should look good on almost any device.
With the SunBeam wallpaper, you can try to install it as you would any other sideloaded .apk, but it may error out on you. Should you run into an issue, you’ll need to be rooted so that you can push the file to /system/app. Set the permissions to RW-R–R–, reboot, and enjoy.
The camera .apk from the GPe phones was made available, and appears to work on any phone without root. I installed it on my HTC One without issue (pictured above). In fact, I was able to snap a Photo Sphere, Panorama, video, and regular photo like you would hope."

Boot animation: try extracting the file contents and move the bootanimation.zip (from system/media in the zip file) to the /data/local folder on your phone. Rather than flashing
I cant guarantee anything as i'm not currently using any of these files.

the wicked rom uses a different format for boot animations. they use the .qmg files vs using the bootanimation.zip file. there are tutorials how to change the format. it is a little involved.

The boot animations cannot be flashed from recovery, splash screens can be flashed if you're s-off

False - if you have an flashable Boot ZIP. you can flash that with the recovery. ONLY FOR SENSE ROMS! (I dont know whether it works with Non Sense roms - i cant try it!)
here you have a flashable Boot Animation ZIP:
INSTRUCTIONS:
In the zip is a README.txt - READ IT! There are more information they'll you need!
This are the short steps:
1) Put your Bootanimation in the downloaded ZIP archive by /system/customize/resouce
2) If you have a Sense Rom rename them
3) Delete the README File in the folder
4) Flash the Zip via your recovery and enjoy your new Bootanimation
Bootanimation Flasher: http://bit.ly/1ocWu0q (Dropbox)
Bootanimation Flasher with this KitKat Animation (you have nothing to do - only to flash it)
KitKat Easteregg Bootup: http://bit.ly/1iSIUvR (Dropbox)
KitKat Easteregg Bootdown: http://bit.ly/1fNMEA9 (Dropbox)
ALLTIME REMEMBER: READ AND FOLLOW THE STEPS! KNOW YOUR PHONE!

hi, you are right; bootanimation down link works when i tried on desktop computer. via mobile, for some reason, stock browswer/dolphin and chrome kept giving me 'page does not exist/is down' error messages. sorry, should have tried via desktop (or at least desktop mode in mobile) before posting that link was down. quick question: if i want to change the 4.4.2 text, is it as simple as replacing the jpgs in the zip and reflashing? ie: i dont want the text and was going to copy one of the other images and rename them to replace the image files with the 4.4.2 images...
Seyidaga, serious question, why are the bit up and down not flashable zips from recovery?

So how exactly do I get the boot logo (splash img)? I was able to get the boot animation using Rom Toolbox but I wasn't able to flash the HTC splash img. Any help appreciated (I'm on the m8, btw).
As the title says, I would like to create unique boot logos for everyone, each with his/her personal touch.
Send me in your recommendations via PMs, and I will try to create them for you
All of them are flashable zips, but if any one prefers fastboot, just extract "logo.bin", and flash via fastboot using the command:
fastboot flash logo logo.bin

Every bootanimation comes in a zip file... In case of custom ROMs u have a whole bunch of image sequences, and in case of stock... it's an mp4 file....
The steps to change bootanimations are:
1) Go to your root -> system -> media
2) Here you will find the bootanimation.zip of your ROM
3) Rename it to bootanimation.zip.bak (just to restore if anything fails)
4) Copy and paste your new bootanimation.zip in the same folder as mentioned above
5) You need to change permissions to RW-R-R
You're done. Reboot and enjoy your bootanimation
Need help badly
