Hey guys,
Just picked up the Japanese Xperia Acro with au/KDDI in Japan. From what I gathered, the phone is almost exactly the same as the Xperia Arc, only difference in name, so I felt it'd be best to post here.
Anyway, great phone, but I'm desperate to root it and then overclock the processor. Thing is, it's branded with the carrier, so I'm unable to access fastboot loader. (Holding menu and plugging in usb doesn't trigger blue light)
Considering this is my first Android phone, I'm literally stuck on where to go from here. Is it impossible for me to root this phone and load custom firmware due to it being locked with the carrier? Am I really stuck with an untinkerable phone?
Appreciate your help guys...
I can unlock your bootloader remotely and enable fastboot for you
The process uses testpoint which is in a different position from the Arc

Sounds good!
How can I arrange this?
Hi Jinx13. Would you be able to remotely unlock the bootloader on my Xperia Arc? I've tried searching through forums for the past couple of days to unlock the bootloader but can't manage it. I'm with Rogers Canada, I unlocked the sim and debranded the phone (I think).
Thanks.

I have same phone and now i have a galaxy note 3 too so i don't use acro anymore. so i wanted to root my acro phone. i know what you are going throw because acro phone is unable to root. So i flashed the firmware and then i could root my phone and everything is working fine. Originally my acro had "IS11S_4.0.1.B.0.118_au" firmware so i flashed it in to "IS11S_4.0.1.B.0.112_KDDI" then i could root acro. if you want to know all the steps let me know i'll post all the steps.
Good Luck.!

- I don't know you can use it in UK or not. But i think if you can find CDMA mobile network provider yo may have a chance to use it. Also you may need you sim unlock.
Install Flastools and Flashing a new firmware
OK this is how i flash my firmware.
I have a Windows 8.1 running PC so this is the steps i did.
First you need to download two files so first download below files.
IS11S_4.0.1.B.0.112_KDDI.ftf
https://mega.co.nz/#!kVInSCQQ!bx7sX1izriRgHK14dmXC1r2LEKTZ4By6CBW5UjAcqww
flashtool-0.9.18.3-windows.exe
https://mega.co.nz/#!JVpBjTaI!fV-1JgQm7-bmMbL-xBxYOKhDAMZcS-aUsIreEm_gvFk
Then you need to install flashtool-0.9.18.3-windows.exe. Just double click and install it and Remember the installing folder (Example - "C:\Flashtool" or "C:\Program Files\Flashtool" like that) and then go to that folder. Inside that folder go to drivers folder and install Flashtool-drivers.exe. Click next check the Flashmode Drivers and Fastboot Drivers (Very important you select those) and go down the menu and select the phone model (Read all well). Then install. If your installation finis without warning errors then you ok. If your installation finis with warning errors then do next step.
Go to PC Settings (Charms Bar) > Change PC Settings > Update And Recovery > Recovery > Restart Now (Advanced Startup)
it will restart to Advance Startup automatically
In Advance Startup -
Troubleshoot > Advanced Settings > Start-up Settings > Restart
After rebooted you will get a screen says. Here to choose options for that we have to use function keys. Now press "F7" to select "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" .
Now your PC will boot with Disabled Driver Signature Enforcement and you will be able to install Flashtool/Fastboot drivers. so again install the Flashtool-drivers.exe and will finish without errors.
after that again go to falshtool installed folder and go to Firmwares folder and if you see any files already on that firmwares folder delete them. Then copy IS11S_4.0.1.B.0.112_KDDI.ftf file that you download before to firmwares folder. and then run FlashTool.exe (If your PC 64bit then run FlashTool64.exe)
Now on your device go to (Very important to do all the steps below)
01. settings > Application settings > Development > check USB debugging
02. settings > Application settings > uncheck Unknown sources
03. settings > Sony Ericsson > Connectivity > USB connection mode > choose Mass storage mode
Then connect your device to PC using Original USB cable.
Go to flashtool software click on flash icon.
Then chose Flashmode > ok
Then new window will open (Firmware Selector) then you can see the IS11S_4.0.1.B.0.112_KDDI.ftf file already on that.
Now just click on FLASH.!
That's all wait it to finish. and your device will restart automatically. and DONE.!
I couldn't remember where i download those files but i already had those so i upload it for you and anyone who want to download those.
And if this post helps you then be kind enough to click on THANKS for me.!
Enjoy.!

Yes, nothing appeared for me
What you do is -
After connecting the Testpoint/whatever your using, you should press start, control panel, then device manager, here will open all your pc devices, there will be a tab called other devices opened with a device called 'S1BOOT' or random letters, i cant recall exactly, anyway right click & select update driver software, here you will select manually & browse to your Omnious Driver folder & it should install, then start Omnious & follow the instructions to successfully unlock your bootloader

if u want try official sony instruction again u can use this drivers: http://www.mediafire.com/?1jqvtofgc13figr. Try install them like AwaisKhan said and it should works (this is how i did)
Thank you all, I'll try soon when I have some time
I had the same problems as both of you, this was the best thing that helped me figure it out.
taken from cetus90:
So Now. turn off phone take battery out wait 5 secs put it back in
2nd. hold back button and connect it to the pc while running the omnius *have it search for phone*
3rd. You will hear the sound that it didn't connect
4th. go to device mananger on your computer and youll see something that says S1 boot something something.
5th. right click and have it update drivers, point it to where the omnius drivers folder is
that should get it the right drivers hopefully.
if someone that knows better could correct me plz if its wrong.
Thanks to Blagus on gsmsecure forum for this
If the testpoint pin is not accessible when the battery is inserted (Play, Mini):
* Turn off the phone, remove battery. Do not return battery.
* Take something conductive. For example, tweezers are very good.
* Locate the testpoint - start unlock in Omnius and use the picture as reference. When you see the picture, abort unlock.
* Plug in the USB cable, while battery is removed.
* Use metal cover on SIM card slot as ground. Connect testpoint pin and ground, press power button, disconnect testpoint.
* Insert battery, and then disconnect USB cable.
* Start unlock again and plug in the USB cable, unlock will start
Eventually you might hear that sound again, just make sure you look at device manager and update/install drivers again.
This is the third time I am saying it in a different thread, use Pdanet for drivers. Install the latest version from their website and your driver problem is solved.

little question about unlocking bootloader. i got r800i. is it possible to rever bootloader unlock procedures as i want to get the official ICS stock by SE once it comes out?
try this file. it helped me when i bricked my phone and than i need to unlock bootloader again so i think it works. inside archive is ftf file which should be flashed using flashtool
Taken from [Tutorial] Xperia S/P/U/Sola Bootloader Unlocking & Relocking and modified slightly for the ion. I take no credit for this tutorial.
Quick tutorial for unlocking & relocking the bootloader of the Xperia ion.
This is the official way to unlock bootloader
Warning!
This procedure will wipe the /data partition of your phone, so you will loose all ur stored data, settings. SDCARD will NOT BE WIPED!!!
DRM keys WILL be lost forever
Why should I unlock the bootloader?
You can flash custom ROMs/Kernels.
You don't need to worry if the new firmware can be rooted or not as with unlocked bootloader you can always ROOT your device.
SE/Sony gives sneak-peaks/preview builds of latest OS which requires unlocked bootloaders, as they did with Xperia 2011 line (they had ICS alpha/beta), so who knows may be SE/Sony may give early builds of ICS (JellyBean???)
Most of this is taken from lollylost100's his tutorial from ARC thread (all credits for that concise tutorial go to him, i have elaborated on a few things and added device specific changes)
[ Before we begin unlocking bootloader ]
Get the IMEI code for your device: type *#06# in phone dialer to find it out, note only the digits (no dashes)
Download the fastboot package with usb drivers (alternate drivers if the ones in package dont work)
Make sure u have a windows PC with USB cable to connect the phone
Power down your phone and keeping the Volume Up button pressed connect the USB cable to PC this will trigger FASTBOOT mode and windows will start driver installation, extract the above package and point the driver install to that location (usb_driver) folder
Once drivers are installed just disconnect cable and power on device
[ how to unlock ] (official way)
Go to: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/ and read everything!
At the bottom click 'Start Unlocking the Bootloader'
First, you should confirm that it is possible to unlock the boot loader of your phone by checking the service menu. In your phone, open the phone dial pad and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu.
In your phone, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.
Click to collapse
After you have verified that you can unlock bootloader, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Continue"
You will get "Are you sure prompt" accept it by clicking "yes i am sure" (i assume that you have read an understood it)
Then accept the "legal terms"
Finally you will get a "Create Unlock request" page, enter your IMEI (sometimes the last digit needs to be removed for this to work), name and email address
You should now receive your unique unlock key, its displayed on screen, SAVE THIS KEY SAFELY
Extract fastboot_with_Android_USB_file.rar and open fastboot folder
Hold SHIFT and right click on the background of the folder
Select 'Open command window here'
Connect your phone in fastboot mode (turn phone off, hold Volume UP button and plug in USB Cable) [make sure drivers are installed as explained above)
In the cmd windows type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version
If a value is returned (it will return 0.5), it means the phone is correctly connected
Type in fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY and replace KEY with the key which you received earlier.
Your device should now be bootloader unlocked
If this tutorial is too much for you then itskapil wrote a step-by-step guide (and recorded a video also):
-Instructions: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-to...-play-neo-pro/
-Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRH3pC7MhEA
(the above videos and some steps are for Xperia 2011 devices, but most the steps are same for Xperia ion)
Info on Relocking bootloader is in next post
Relocking bootloader
RELOCKING BOOTLOADER WILL ALLOW YOU TO GET NEWEST UPDATES & REPAIR DEVICE USING SEUS/PCC
Before we begin relocking the bootloader make sure that u have flashtool download & installed
You can get the latest version of FlashTool from:
http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
Download link is under "Installation" tab
If you have not use FlashTool before read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526866
Download this FTF:
Xperia ion -> LT28-ION_Relock_bootloader_Dogsly-TEST.ftf // Mirror 1
Flash this FTF via FlashTool:
When it says enter flashmode, power down device and keeping VOLUME DOWN button pressed connect usb cable to phone, the device will now enter flashmode (green LED)
After this file is flashed reboot phone
Bootloader will now be relocked!!!
Incase device doesn't boot DO NOT PANIC... You can flash stock firmware FTF anytime to get back to stock ROM
P.S.: there is no official way to relock bootloader
So because my phone says I can't unlock the bootloader, does that mean I can never unlock the bootloader? Or do I have to wait to be able to root it first?
PS: I got my ion from Best Buy so is that why? Will I ever be able to unlock the BL ? I've rooted and unlocked my x10, back in the old days lol but I'm just wondering if there's any difference with getting a phone from at&t directly or from the sony store and best buy.

Have to wait to see if another way to unlock the bootloader is discovered. Root and unlocking the bootloader are two different things that accomplish or allow different things you can do on the phone.
IE rooting allows you to uninstall system apps & bloatware, backup apps/data, make changes to build.prop etc. Unlocking the bootloader will give you access to fastboot so you can flash custom roms/kernels and other images such as a pre-rooted system image to gain root.
I wonder. If we can not unlock the bootloader for some LT28at, why is there a key to unlock it? I did the Sony bootloader unlock for fun and apparently they have a key for my LT28at even though it says bootloader unlock is not allowed.

If the LT28i can be unlocked, what if we flash the international firmware on our LT28at's and then do the LT28i method? Maybe a stupid question but this is the first phone I've had that's a challenge to do stuff like unlocking and rooting. My last phone (HTC Aria) was extremely easy.

Kinda figured that
I tried to relock the bootloader. The flash pass but the phone can't turn on after that.
*I reflash the stock kernel again and the phone can power on now.
So here is the result, once you relock bootloader, you need to flash back the stock kernel in other to turn on the phone. Hopefully this will help those people who got stuck after relock bootloader.
Hello guys
I was just wondering, if bootloader unlock or flashing cutom kernel will allow to use sim cards from other mobile operators (European for ex.) ?
I have an ability to buy this device in us through my friend. but Im interested if I would be able to use it in Europe I was thinking of buying xperia p or s, but they dont have microsd card support.
Im not interested in using LTE networks. Just common 2g.
I planning to use it like a second android device as a multimedia player instead of my galaxy s wifi5.0. (because of good sound quality and other features).
Thanx a lot for responses

I'll do my best to help you, but we're going to need more information.
1) What Model of the phone do you have?
2) Are you absolutely sure that you unlocked the bootloader correctly?
3) Have you tried searching for and flashing the basebands for your model?
4) Can you link to the .ftf files and the CM9 wiki page for our access to be quicker?
And protip for the future: Include as much information and as many resources as you can about the problem. We can't solve insanely vague problems.

Model is R800i, Yeah I unlocked the boot-loader correctly I done it before when I had CM9, Bit of a noob so I haven't flashed any baseband for my model ill have a search for them now and report back. The FTF file was a 2.3.3 generic UK file found in this forum.
I have read posts about that. And it seams like the only way to reunlock is is to go with the paid method of unlocking... sorry

Yes, you are doing all good. However, you will need to install fastboot drivers first. Which OS are you using on your PC?
Thanks for reply, I have tried eRoot, It detects my phone (LT15a) runs complete process displays some form in the end asking for phone model, number and comments. I provided data but nothing happened.
I also removed eroot folder in appdata and retry this process again nothing happened.
My phone have rogers firmware
I have copied drivers from sonywebsite to android sdk folder (as suggested in official sony website)

For eroot , you dont need sdk.
Eroot is a bit laggy so you will have to connect it few times and try to root it with the software

I have installed PC companion as instructed in eroot's thread
I will try again and check if it worked or not
FYI eroot is detecting my phone correctly (My phone is in normal mode, do i need to be in fastboot mode?)

No, for Eroot your phone must be in normal mode, turned on, USB Debugging ticked, Unknown Sources ticked.
Yes Settings were correct
I tried again but nothing changed
(I am using Win 8) previously run eroot on win 7, nothing changed that time either
I have the same problem, but is still running Win8.
Hope you post the solution here - even if you found it somewhere else.

I did tried many methods posted here on XDA, but unable to succeeded (Hoping that starting a thread will help more)
Still looking for successful method, please help me
Can't you unlock your boot loader? You do have fastboot set up correctly right?

Phone with carrier lock cannot unlock bootloader using fastboot. You need to remove the carrier lock first before unlocking boot loader.

OP said that his bootloader was unlockable.

Seems I misread... Yeah for him the best bet is to check his fastboot installation.

I unlocked my bootloader, then I replace my boot image and recovery image.
Here's the problem:
I didn't back up.
the device can't detect my SIM card, I try another boot.img, the SIM card is detected, but no sound output.
Emma isn't working, flashtool by Androxyde didn't have a "G3426" selection.
I can't find any TFT file for my device, and can't find a boot.img for my device.
If my problem can be fixed by flashing a new boot.img, how can I get it?
If can't, what is the solution?

Hi
If I were you, I would relock the bootloader, connect your phone to the PC and use Xperia companion to repair your software.
Did u backup TA partition and DRM keys?
No

You've a problem so.
You've lost DRM keys*, so you won't be able anymore to:
- use display enhancements (Bravia engine, etc.; You will see them as enabled, but they won't work)
- some audio enchantments (audio will be worse; same)
- camera enchantments (low light photos, zoom, etc.; Same)
- login to Xperia services and so on
- backup your phone with Sony's app to Google
- and many others....
*DRM keys are keys (series of numbers) that are used by Sony to activate some Xperia features. They cannot be fixed on your phone (only if you have Z3, Z4, Z5) and cannot be generated. Only assistance can do something.
And you cannot do anything for all of this, neither if you will use repair software.
What I would do if I were you:
- relock bootloader with flashtool
- repair software with Xperia companion (you will be able to use your Sim)
- send your phone to assistance telling them you've lost DRM keys
- wait
- pay (80% probable, cause it's outside of the warranty)
- done
... Or buy another phone.
Hope could be helpful

Thank you!
But I can't
- relock bootloader with flashtool ( No stock kernel, cannot be verified when booting)
- repair software with Xperia companion (you will be able to use your Sim)[Cos I unlocked my bootlocker]
By the way, I found a TFT file. But I can't flash it with the flash tool.
So I extract it and found a folder called "firmware"
Should I replace my firmware in my mobile with those?

Hehe there's a trick to flash with flashtool without verification!
- uninstall your flashtool
- download from flashtool website THE PREVIOUS VERSION that doesn't verify anything on boot and install
- enjoy
If you relock bootloader you would be able to repair software
The folder is C://users/your name/.flashtool
I don't have a PC now, but if I remember well there's a folder like firmwares or something similar. If you don't find it, download a random firmware with flashtool (obviously don't install it) and watch where there's the ftf inside the aforementioned folder
PS hit like if it was helpful, more people will find it

All I need not is the kernel. It's not the problem with the firmware.
But I can't get the boot.img for my device.

As told before, just relock bootloader with flashtool, you should be able to do that with the previous version of flashtool, as told before.
After that, go to Xperia companion and repair software. It will solve all, cause it flashes everything (boot, recovery, etc.)

Ahem... I didn't understand what you said...
If I understood correctly, you shouldn't have problems, because "repair software" downloads the firmware, the boot, the recovery and so on from Sony servers

The SIM card isn't working.
It's about the boot.img (I guess so)
I can't repair mobile(unlocked)
I can't relock it(no stock boot.img)
If I relock it anyway (I tried it), it can't boot and shows"This device can't be verified, power off after 5 second"
I copied all the firmware correctly (with twrp file manager)
Nothing changes.

When you said "If I relock it anyway" did u do it? If yes, power the phone down and connect it to pc JUST PRESSING VOLUME DOWN (no power button) with "repair software" opened up. If the software will find your phone, just repair, else press "device not found", it will do a deep scan into your USB ports.

Aww... But still, no root.
I can't dump my boot.img without root... Fewer developers support G3426...
I can't even boot into TWRP with my stock boot image...
Flashtool root will always show "Waiting for device. After 60secs, stop waiting will be forced"
