FAQ:​
Q: Why are there still sense apps in here..I thought this was aosp alternatives?!?
A: In some cases sense apps are better than aosp (camera comes to mind) and in others the aosp equivalents just dont work bug free...for example to use aosp contacts you need to have already synced google contacts and you must keep htcdialer anyway, so its kinda pointless...and aosp mms app has issues with fc on mms settings
Q: Do I need to wipe data/cache/etc when flashing?
A: As a best practice, regardless of previous setup, I would say yes. It helps narrow down issues/force closes/errors with the rom, otherwise whatever input we get isn't reliable. That being said, if you are running another fairly stock sense 2.1 rom, you could probably get away without wiping data. Worst case, make a nandroid, flash the rom and see what happens.
A2: Honestly if you were running any of our other gingerbangs its not really needed, although you may need to use tibu or package manager to wipe gmail or another gapp as there are newer versions in here.
Q: I wiped data and still having issues with the rom or its not booting into the os...what should I do?
A: Logcatting the issue is the best way for us to figure out whats going on. In a terminal

adb logcat > logcat.txt
hit ctrl + c when finished and a logcat.txt file will be in your tools or platform-tools folder (whatever u cd to). Post this with dropbox or pastebin for us to look at.
Q: Are there any themes for this rom?
A: No, but the gbsense ones would work with some quirks
Q: It looks like there are no wallpapers in new launcher2 and why is it saying no activity found on the dialer?
A: Currently there are no wallpapers included with the launcher

this is true of any sense-based ROM when using a launcher other than the stock HTC one (Rosie)

Yeah ill see if I.can comment that out of settings...HTC makes life difficult as most phones have a settings.xml file that controls the layout and allows u to remove or add tho.ha very easily
U have to hack the.crappy out of sense ones to do the.same.thing

Not sure if this is a limitation of the rom or the market, or what.. I'm trying to install Move2SD Enabler from the market.. yet I don't have the blue install button.. not compatible??

You might have the option from Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications to move certain wood to the sdcard.

would it be possible to fix something that is annoying me?
if you go into the browser and select a textbox the suggestions on the keyboard dont show

First sort of bug to report is that the menu icon appears on the lockscreen and if you press it, it unlocks the phone, its not to my personal taste but I'm loving the CM Launcher. So much more options to choose from the its lightning fast so far!

The same bug exists on the Android Revolution HD 1.3.1 ROM by mike1986. I just assumed that was a "feature" of ICS!!

CM launcher is the cyanogen mod launcher. The cyanogen mod team develops aosp ROMs for most of the major android phones and is generally considered one of the best and most stable aftermarket ROMs out there. But then perhaps you already knew that last bit.

Eagle's Blood! I used to rock that on my G2X. Methinks I just found my next ROM. How stable is the OC kernel on this? Well... I can only think of one way to find out...

My screen has the red flash graphic bug as well. I rebooted multiple time but couldn't get it to go away. Other than that the rom seems awesome so far. Great job.

thanks. I found another bug. Can't get Google Maps to update to the latest version. Error code - this application is not signed correctly.
Kernel seems fine. I am using the OC version and I haven't had any reboots or crashes yet. Will report on battery life tomorrow.

Running great so far, don't like how the text input option stays in the notification bar when typing, but I'm nitpicky . Been waiting for a smart ass kernel though

Its taken 45 + hours of work so far to get to this point (was horribly broken from first boot) and I think finally the rom is what I'd consider a daily driver (though I dont like that term personally)

*if something is greyed out in tweaks it means 1) I havent gotten it working or 2) it isnt meant for this rom (remnant of one of roman's other roms)
*kb may not show up after data wipe, just reboot and it will be there
*in my touch widget wifi calling doesnt work
*car dock doesnt work with some apps (mostly cuz i left them out)
*burst mode doesnt work in camera (requires mt4g camera hardware to function properly)

FAQ
Q: How do I add shortcuts to the lockscreen (sense)?
A: You can't. For whatever reason htc didnt add that in.
Q: I found a bug/issue not listed in known bugs, what do I do?
A: Ideally send me a logcat and an accurate description of the issue.
Q: How do I change lockscreens?
A: Go to settings-> tweaks -> lockscreen settings...and change to what you want, then reboot to set. (note music controls only work on sense lockscreen)
Q: When will this be finished?
A: No port is ever 100% finished, but hopefully I will be able to fix many of the existing issues rather quickly.
Q: Why doesnt my search key soft menu button work?
A: I remove many google apps like gmail, voice search, maps, etc to keep the rom as current as possible for as long as possible. Download google search from the market.
Q: Isn't this the same thing as newt's rom on themikmik?
A: No, but since its essentially the same RUU, it will be similar. I feel mine is usable, whereas that particular rom was only a preview release and would require more work to be a completely usable rom.
Q: How do I change boot animation/down animation?
A: Replace bootanimation.zip and/or downanimation.zip in /data/local with files of the same name.
Q: I though mysense/mt4g had a pink-ish theme to it.
A: It does/did, but I've removed it from most system icons and the frameworks. There are still remnants I have to get to.
Q: I just loaded the rom and have no keyboard?!
A: Just reboot, it sometimes doesn't show on a data wipe. You should also try to use it before rebooting, because if you don't rebooting may not bring it up. Its been suggested setting keyboard type to compact in settings, fixes it without rebooting

tbh i havent done much digging...might try looking in mt4g or mt4g slide forums and see (skins are the same for both i think)
it was such a headache to get this as functional as it is...and normally i wouldnt release it this buggy, but i needed to take a break from it and get back to work on other stuff and didnt want to just sit on it
so i figured id throw out what i had done

Yeah, its cool man, I was just wondering if you did. And actually I think its two different espresso versions. Ones mysense 2.1 and this is mysense 3.0. I looked on Google, and most of what came up was mytouch 4g

Okie doke, I flashed it and looked through it a little bit just to see what di and didn't flow properly, and here's what I came up with (Just stating things I ran into for your benefit [though I'm sure you already know the borked bits] as well as other people):
1. SD-Card won't mount
2. Stock IME won't load (Installed another keyboard via ADB and all was well)
3. A good majority of the Tweaks do work (I never noticed how funny RomanBB is)
4. My mobile data kept saying turning on and kinda grayed itself out, but that doesn't affect me, as I'm a WiFi only person (Yay for Google Voice!).
5. The themes from the screenshots are not present in the rom. I'll see if I can track them down and upload them here for people to install.
6. Everything in the menus (Settings menu, Personalize menu, etc.) seems a little big, but I wouldn't really consider it a bug.
7. WiFi works!
I'll add to this list over the next couple of days as I have time to dig around. Thanks for all you do for the community, Nitsuj!

1. hmm, works fine for me in windows and linux
2. keyboard should work after a reboot
4. yeah ports are sketchy with radio...for me on the latest ota radio its strong
5. if you wipe data and then flash rom the themes should be there
6. yeah thats just the theme/customization htc/tmo went with

ugh my android add got the better of me and i fixed some stuff
i guess whenever i decide im not working on something old logcat info and ideas pop back in, oh well
so far fixed mms fc, weather force close, and hot reboot

Thanks, I will be loading this up when I have time. Do you think I should wait for the beta 2, since it sounds like you have some fixes, or are you going to hold off for a week or two like you initially said?

if you just want to mess around and dont need to sms/mms id say try this
otherwise wait til monday(ish) for beta 2

if something is greyed out in tweaks, its either not available yet, or not meant for sense4a (tweaks ported from one x full sense 4)
to access quick settings, tap the pulldown carrier text
if auto brightness is on, slide status bar doesnt work
trace kb is off by default, turn on in settings->Language & KB->HTC Sense Input->Trace KB (trace color can be changed in Advanced Settings from that menu)
hot reboot is busted atm (will just bootloop) kind of given up on fixing it currently cuz so few people use it
like most Sense4a roms, signal bars work but arent entirely accurate (reads max of 4, usually reads empty)
weird quirk with aosp lock atm...only use clock in regular position otherwise you ll end up with dual status bar clocks when using center clock
weak or no haptic feedback (working on it, but may not be able to fix w/o kernel source)
native wifi tether does not work, barnacle from market has been reporting as working (will fail the first connection, restart to connect)

Q: Can I use your rom as a base for mine, or take fixes from it?
A: While I cannot exactly stop you from taking things from my rom, I would appreciate that you link back to this thread if you do so. Primarily because I credit numerous people, and I feel its appropriate that at least a link back here so those credits can be seen is shown. As for using the entire rom? I would appreciate if you didn't. Tweaks cannot be taken/ported without permission from j4n87. Kernels are from HTC, not me...but I did put work into fixing the ramdisk up, so credit is required if you are taking the one from me. And I'm not an idiot, I can diff your updates..and when a sizable chunk of that update is stuff from what I've done...

A: While I appreciate being anxious for something, I do not do this as a full time job (obviously) and have varying amounts of time to put into android stuff...if you feel slighted or ignored, my apologies. I try to answer or give feedback on as many posts as possible, but cannot guarantee if/when I get to your request (and its not always possible to fix the issue you may have noticed). Bug reports are better with logcats though.

A: Please stop right there....while I'm sure many enjoy using boot manager for various reasons, I will no longer accept bug reports from those running UKB from it. You are still free to share your issues in posts and others may be able to help you out, but I personally will ignore those posts...boot manager creates issues that dont exist in a straight wipe and install of a rom for the average user, and I cannot debug something like that, thanks.

Q: My friend has a One X/S and it has a lot more built in features, like rotating rosie, different sense lockscreens, etc..what gives?
A: This is a port of the HTC One V stock rom, which is not "full" sense 4, but rather (as htc calls it) sense 4a or "lite". Essentialy because the One V has relatively weak specs (512mb ram, 1 ghz processor, wvga screen) htc felt that it couldnt handle all the features in full sense 4, so they dumbed it down a bit.

A: Because our phone is wvga resolution like the one v, there is no resizing necessary. We could resize a full sense4 rom, but thats a lot of work, and honestly will always have more quirks/issues than a one v rom. I am currently working on porting in features from sense4 like lockscreens, cube animations, dialer, etc. Just give me time.

A: It *might* be possible (and I thought it was) to fix settings within the rom, but I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to do. It seems from what I gather, that all the fixes on Sense 4 rom ports are kernel related, and that requires kernel source which we dont have currently.

A: TBH? They are all going to be fairly similar. Different mods/functionality/tweaks/bases mostly. IMO, this is the best offering currently for this phone...and the vast majority of inc2 sense4 fixes have come from myself or chrisch. Read: if you are using a sense4 rom on this phone, its composed of numerous ukb parts.

Step 1: Dial *#*#4636#*#* to get into test mode
Step 2: Phone Information > Set preferred network type: GSM only. Then your phone will start crashing, until you do the step 3 fix.

the biggest help possible from a nondevelopment standpoint would be bug reports and logcats from bugs and general observations
since i do have to use my phone in a functional state i cant run the rom all the time to catch daily usage things, so all helps

Install a custom recovery (twrp/4ext)
Download the ROM and place it on your external SD card.
Do a nandroid backup!
Start rom install process and make sure you select to wipe data in aroma
Select your desired setup in aroma, and finish
Reboot the device and enjoy!
If you are dev unlock, you need to pull the boot.img from the rom zip and fastboot it in hboot

A: Installation instructions above.​
Q: Whats the md5 sum thing?
A: It ensures, that the rom is downloaded correctly and completly to avoid weird issues when installing/using the rom. Google for "md5 sum checker" and you should find what you need.​
Q: Whats the boot.img. Why we need to flash it? (s-off folks ignore)
A: The boot.img is the kernel and have to be flashed if you want your rom running well. HTC DevUnlock doesnt allow to install the kernel directly when installing the rom in recovery, thats why you need to install in manually.​
Q: I found a theme or mod, will it work on this rom?
A: It's NOT recommended to use mod/themes that dont clearly state, that they are compatible with our rom. Themes for other venom roms, *may* work...however if they flash apps or framework files you may run into serious problems. Anything for the venom theming engine is fine, but remember it may not theme everything on our specific device.​

A: Select GSM as the version of the rom you want during install...testers reported EDGE only speeds (same as all other ports).​

A: Presently, no. Unless HTC releases kernel source for the chinese OTA's, or the Virtuous Team brings their work on the 3.xx primou kernel to this device, we are stuck with the stock chinese kernel.​
Q: Can I tether with this rom?
A: Native tethering requires fixes in the kernel, at source level, so that is non functioning. However, many are successfully using Barnacle WiFi Tether (market) to do so, and easytether (usb, market) also works fine.​​

As if the ROM wasn't customisable enough, the venom devs have also developed the Venom theme kitchen.
Really want some statusbar icons that aren't in the Hub. Or got a great idea for a set of Sense icons? Why not make it yourself and share it with others via the Venom Hub?!
We've put some themes in the Hub to get you started, but the aim is to fill it with user generated content. We've tried to make the tutorial as easy as possible, but if you have any questions, here's the place to ask.
Post your completed themes here, with a screenshot. If the theme looks nice we will add it with credits to the venom hub, so all users can download it from there!
One thing we ask though - ideally you'd be using icons you've created yourself. If you are going to use someone's else icons, please ask them for their permission first. We all spend a lot of our free time making these, and it's really annoying to see your work ripped off by someone else! I'm sure you'd all agree. If you used icons from the UOT kitchen, then say so.

Q: I tried out some cool looking status bar themes from Venom Hub, but they dont theme my data or signal icons?!
A: Since Venom Roms are primarily on gsm devices, most existing themes are meant for qHD and HD res GSM devices. Our cdma rom calls on different icons, and the respective devs set "all devices" for those particular themes when they really dont apply to us. I'll do my best to port them and reup them.​
Q: Can I take someone elses theme for another device/rom and port it for venom?
A: We cannot add your theme to venom hub if its using someone else's work, unless they give you specific permission.​
Q: Can I use that "themer" signature badge?
A: If you make either a hub skin/theme/rosie theme or old-school update.zip theme, sure.​​

camera should be about the same as ukb....but honestly i cant remember if i made any significant changes between the last ukb and early venom betas

Camera works great. Fantastic quality. It does on occasion (on a phone by phone basis) just close...not fc...just close. When that happens, I use a third party app. It doesnt happen a lot.
Can't wait to try a little theming.
Nitsuj - did you see my comment in the beta thread about the framework.jar? I suppose it doesn't really matter now with a new build. Thanks for letting me test it out. :beer:

ULTIMATE Kang Bang do not record the audio when the video recorder is setting up to HD. I hope this issue don't exist in this rom!!!

Using the Aroma Installer
This is a quick guide to using the Aroma Installer since this highly customized version may be slightly different from what you have used before.
Looks complicated, but is super easy. And I think you will appreciate the ability to customize your set-up without having to re-install the ROM.
Enjoy!
Be sure to select your carrier!
Installation:
Nandroid backup
Factory reset in recovery if coming from a non-TouchWiz ROM (backup internal SD Card contents first)
Flash in recovery (button or touch)
Aroma installer should start within ~5 seconds
Choose a theme (if the colors look borked, go back and choose the theme again).
After agreeing to the disclaimer and viewing the changelog, Choose either:
Install or Update ROM - Installs ROM
or
Add or Remove Features - Allows you to add or remove apps, launchers, etc without re-installing the ROM.

Install or Update ROM:
Choose either:
Full Wipe - Clean install wipes system, cache, Dalvik, and app & system data (no media, etc).
or
Update Wipe - Wipes system, cache, Dalvik (for current CSROM users only)
Choose desired options.
If you don't choose a launcher, the TW launcher will be installed.
If you install both AOSP and Samsung email you will get repeated FC's.
You can install both launchers and decide which one to use after boot.

Add or Remove Features:
Be sure to select everything you want included in the ROM, even if it is already installed on your device.
If any given item is not selected, it will either not be installed, or deleted if it is already installed.

Additional Info
If at any point Aroma hangs, hold the power button until device reboots recovery (10-15 seconds).
If install completes and you get a "Status 0" error after pressing "Reboot" in Aroma, just reboot the device.

what DPI is this on? looks like 280?

I use a lot of google talk, some how I cant install it in this rom. I have tried downloading the latest gapps and installed it again but still no google talk.
Was anyone able to get it installed?

I added a flashable zip to the third post.

a word of appreciation for this ROM: flashed it last night and it works very well. I like the fact that you stripped out some bloat, the rest is easy to remove and modify ourselves, like the standard launcher and the option with Razor, thank you for the 1% battery mod and the extended power menu, and thank you for not then lumbering the ROM with a bunch of other features I neither want nor use!
If there is one request, it would be to keep the base nice and simple and have any extras people start asking you for as separate install packages or zips -- lots of other roms with 64 toggles, battery bar and other cut and paste features -- don't mess this one up!

You just described my Clean Slate concept (the "CS" in "CSROM").
I rarely add things without other options (like the launcher).
When I start a new ROM the first thing I do is remove most obvious manufacturer and carrier crap.
Then I try to keep most of the mods as background items you might not notice (performance & battery life improvements, revealing options blocked by carriers and device manufacturers, changing default settings to things that most of us use, etc.) and additional options.
If I do make a big, obvious change I do it because I really believe it improves the ROM.
When I theme, it is to move things in an AOSP direction or to clean up a mess (like the stock notification drawer toggles).
I try hard to balance what I want and what most users want with the ROM concept. I don't always get it right, but I try.

Been running this since release and I've decided to make it my DD. Still much to early to comment on battery life but everything else I have put it through has been solid. Not one issue, you made it just like I would have if I had your smarts.
Like lgsshedden said, appreciate you keeping is simple and 'lean'.
Keep up the good work, I've clicked the thanks button but you might consider getting a 'donation' button as well. Some peeps on here will might help fund your coffee breaks. :laugh:
