Just added the "Free Unlimited WiFi Calling" feature to my EM+ $59.99 plan (500 min/unlim text/unlim data). Did it over live chat, no questions asked the CS added it and confirmed my address for 911 calls over WiFi. 2 Questions:
1) The CS said it will take up to 2 hours to activate on my phone properly. 4 Hours later it hasn't been added to my plan when I check 'My T-Mobile'. I'm assuming it actually is supposed to show up as a feature on my plan?
2) Do I need to do anything since my phone is running CM7? The CS rep indicated that the app will actually stop saying "WiFi calling uses plan minutes" and will say "UMA". Will running CM7 with a "HTC Vision" instead of "T-Mobile G2" build.prop matter?
I'd love if someone who has enabled this feature and used it on their CM7 device could comment on the what exactly happens and what I need to look for.
TIA
I have wifi calling on my plan but on my G2 running CM7 nighties, it still says that wifi calling uses plan minutes....although I have never really checked the bill to see if it actually does..
edit:
this is what shows up on my-tmobile

Interesting. The only services I have listed on my account is "4G Web - Unlimited (required)". (FWIW I go into "edit services" and its not an option to add this either).
Thanks for replying though. Good to see that it actually is a line item that needs to show up on my service.
I'm thinking about switching over to my stock 2.3 ROM and seeing if anything changes. Did you add this to your account before or after you switched to CM7??
Edit: Going into "see usage details" then clicking on my phone (even though I'm the only line on the account) shows the page that you took a picture of, and it shows free wifi calling on it. Interesting because nothing else on the my-tmobile site reflects that...
But... Derp:
Message is not correct
I have been using wifi calling for months now. I think the message is just hardwired into the application as wifi calling would use minutes (if you didn't have the free option).
I have never seen it charge my bill.

Thanks. Yeah this is what I'm noticing now too. The calls show up on my bill with the "(U)" tag for something like "hotspot call". Not charging me for them.

Engadget had an article that states Tmobile will now charge for tethering starting sunday Nov. 14th. I am wondering if us who have been able to root the G2 get charged for using the tethering option? If so i can always use wireless tether but the built in android hotspot is much better in my opinion. If anyone knows the answer that'll be great as i dont want to get charged without knowing.
No. From what I've been able to gather, there's no way for T-Mobile (or anyone else) to tell the difference if you're tethering or just using standard(phone) mobile data.
Well something I just noticed today was a redirect to an upsell page. This is using the G2 with PDAnet, I have had no luck getting the native tethering to work. I will keep trying and see if I run into that same issue. I'll also post a pic of the page that it'll take you to.

here's the lovely site you'll get trying to get you to buy the subscription to tether. I have also noticed that G1 and MT3G1.2 and they're still able to tether just fine.
Well I just tethered without getting that message so I guess us rooters got around their trap!! Niiiice

tmo probably made and agreement to not remove pda net from the market if they made it to where tmo could check if the user is tethtering with pdanet
Actually, I am rooted and I was using PDANet, followed by Wifi Tether and I got the page both times.
this sounds like either they are filtering for user agent(easy to bypass), but then again i could be wrong. i used to use pdanet, and even paid for it(didn't like wifi tether on G1 because battery temp would get too high) and now if i can't use that app i'm going to be very upset. try changing your user agent to "Android" and see if you can tether
they will only notice if you pass the 3gb - 5gb limit, refrain from downloading while using tether.
I just got a notification from my Tmobile (US) My Account app that I hadn't rebooted in a week and should consider rebooting if I was having any issues.
WTF?
I remember when I had my g1 I had some problem with 3g because my SIM card went bad. The vs rep suggested I reboot my phone at least one a week to "clear up" any issues I might be having.
This was back when I would reboot my phone almost daily to try new mods and stuff for my phone.
Rebooting seems the cure for all tech device issues. I was just surprised to get a message like this from TMO

It's just the My T-Mobile application acting like a nanny. Personally, I don't recommend using this app at all, but that's just my opinion.
It's the T-Mobile "My Account"/"My Device" application. Go into the Account app, go to system messages or whatever, and turn them off.
I've also uninstalled the My Account app since then, as the mobile interface for checking minutes/usage is really really good. Just added a bookmark shortcut to my homescreen instead:

check out their mobile website, its just as good as the app if not better. i stopped using the app a while back.
I don't have a data plan on the phone. The app is useful for changing my plan from pay as you go by the minute to something with data for when I need it.
I hadn't realized the app had alerts. They're off now.

Why would you ever want a superphone like the GNex w/o a data plan? Especially when prepaid plans are so cheap?

I almost always have wifi when near home. If I'm not near wifi and I need data, I turn on TMO's data for a day plan using the app.
I use prepaid data when traveling.
I am an att n3 gu,y but just bought a rooted 900t for a friend on jb4.3.
this is the end of 2014, whats the best app at this time to mask wifi tethering (I don/t mind paying/donating)
anyone tether their unlimited tmo plans?
I have to turn this phone over in an hour and would really like a suggestion or two :good:
I'm on effortless rom and there's unlimited tethering built into the rom. You can also use an app called FoxFi ($7). I also use a VPN called private internet access to hide my tethering just in case.

OK, I downloaded pda+ (w/foxfi)
rebooted, and turned it on.
it must be connecting through the T-Mobile hotspot cause it is still metering data, (so I went back to playstore for a refund).
no one on the internet can even find tmobile hotspot to freeze it w/titanium backup.
My N3 (which is an unlocked 900a) is unlocked and I tether all day though a separate app, (no tmobile hot spot app on my 900a)
The phone im talking about in this thread is a 900t and I need to freeze/uninstall it, (but no one can find it).
The tmobile hotspot is just a meter to let them know how much data is being used, (I need to get rid of it/freeze it, turn it off some how so I can use a 3rd party app
If it's rooted just install Wifi Tether Router.

You need to create an alternative APN and select it before you enable foxfi. The name and apn is all you need to fill out. Leave everything blank. This is mine below.

Am I missing a setting:
Every time that I try to dial a number from my contacts in the "People" app, the phone states, "No Internet Calling Account" with a further description, "There are no Internet calling accounts on this phone. Add one now?" The cancel or add buttons both work, but I just want to use the phone to dial!
Bad programming, or are you required to now have a SIP account setup on the phone to dial your contacts?
It is interesting to me that this setting would be defaulted to use internet calling... (wonder if it was from installing an app!)
I found in settings under the heading of Call, Use Internet Calling was set at For all calls when data network is available.
I changed this to "Only for Internet calls" and now everything works fine!
Hopefully this will be helpful for someone else... .

Yeah but when you turn it on, it wants a SIP account for VoLTE. Yet Verizon hasn't provided the SIP account details needed for it.

Mine does not do that.
What about if you click on the phone icon and then on the top right click on the three dots and then settings. At the bottom is an option under "Internet Call Settings" there is another option that says Use Internet Calling. Mine is set to "Only for Internet Calls".
my mate20x from hk, should be same as grobal version as it came with google services.
the new problem i found was when i share wifi to others my phone will go offline and cannot connect to internet.
i found out it was an old problem for many huawei phones.
I have the exact same issue with the 3uk sim. Hot-spot works with ee sim correctly but not with 3uk sim. I was on the phone to 3uk today, changed apn settings but nothing happened. I bloody did a hard reset but that still didn't rectify the issue. Threes technical support said they will call me in few hours to see if they can find any solution. I have the global version from wonda.

I found the solution from previous Huawei forums. Add a new apn and where it says apn type paste this default, mms, supl,ia,dun, entitle
Magically that solves the issue.

I have attached the picture, just change the apn type in your new apn. If the phone doesn't let you save the setting after editing then just press back button. And select the edited apn. Then put your Hot-spot on.

Thanks but..
I too have the global version from wonda. And i'm with 3(uk)
Imagine my disappointment when your fix didn't work. :crying:
I get a "your carrier does not allow you to add dun APN's" message and the new apn is not there when i use the back key.
I'm on unlimited data and 30Gb tether.
Mine works without any issues now after adding the new apn. I almost use it every day for work purpose. Try this may be, reset the network settings. Then try to add the new apn. Make sure in the apn type don't leave any space between the commas. Press the back key and see what happens.

My oneplus 5 could and still can tether.
I have tethering on my contract.
Unlimited data on device, 30Gb of which is tetherable.
I heard they removed the tether cap, but i've never been anywhere near 30Gig so i don't care.
thks. that worked!

I got this too, seemed there as the default APN and then one for tethering, removing the 'dun' from the hotspot APN and saving made it work for me - now hotspot and phone data are working.
