[PATCH] 100% working ad-hoc wifi for SGS1 & SGS2 - Galaxy S I9000 Android Development

All credits go to bruceleedragon1 for this.
He did a patched version of wpa_supplicant (similar to others i tested without success) and it works correctly on my JVR (i'm using SpeedMod kernel T10 but it should work with any gingerbread kernel).
The only problem for me is connecting to a WEP or WPA2 connection. It tryes to connect but gets stuck on "Obtaining IP Address...". But maybe it's a problem with my notebook, i'm on Ubuntu 11.04.
Please test and report on the main thread:

New Dopod rom - WPA-PSK problem

I've installed new Dopod rom on my HTC P3600. Everything works fine but I cannot connect to my AP using WPA-PSK TKIP. There is connection established but no data transfer. I've tried to connect to the same network using my laptop and everything if ok. Unsecured network also works fine.
Any solution?

WPA-PSK
Did you make sure you typed in the same wpa code?
Sometimes it can drive us nuts, seems like that could be one of the issues.Check on the MAC filter,DHCP server, make a file with the wpa-psk code that is on the pc and store it in the SDcard after that copy and paste when you set up the wifi on the HTC.
I use the same WPA-PSK TKIP, and I have no problem at all...
Work fine for me...
I've a WPA-PSK Tkip and a WPA-PSK AES working.
Did you correctly setup date and time on your device?
Ciao
Same problem here. 'WPA2 PSK Mixed Mode (TKIP+AES)' not working with the new ROM. It tries to connect then the AP becomes 'Available' again.

Sorry but I can't confirm your issue: one of mine AP is setup in mixed mode and I can connect with WPA2/AES without any problems.
If it is a device issue, check if any program has overwritten a system dll wih an old version...
But a behavior like this let me think about a wrong password or a system time problem...
Ciao
my trinity is not connecting to the ap when i use dhcp. if i use a static ip address the connection works.
Thank You all for your replies. The data and time is set properly. The password is ok. I've changed router settings - cipher from TKIP to mix mode. It's helped.

Defy & Ad-Hoc wifi network

I cant connect to ad-hoc wifi network, it is well known software android problem at all devices but i tried like this links:
exop.pro/blog/2010/08/15/ad-hoc-support-for-android
szym.net/2010/12/adhoc-wifi-in-android/
when i replace wpa_supplicant, wifi seems doesnt work, i cant find any wifi network (ap or ad-hoc)
please help
I tried creating ad hoc wifi network in my laptop for my defy but failed. The phone did not detect the network. Then I installed connectify instead and it works faultlessly.
Is there any adhoc patch for defy?
*wrong post deleted*
I can connect defy with my laptop without installing any other software. But I'm not sure if it is a ad-hoc network. My laptop wifi driver provide a special ap mode and it can be used to share network.

Same here. I tried all the patches of wpa_supplicant given in this thread as well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755254 but the wifi just can't search for any network and it turns off itself.
Another member "webvan" tried the above steps on his Milestone and failed(from the above thread).
Seems like Moto has a different hardware config.
FYI, I'm running 2.2.2 custom rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037076)
What a tragedy.
It seems there's no such patch for Defy.
for me it worked with 3.4.2_177-005_NORDIC rom which i used for a very long time.
the problem is, you must manually connect to an ad-hoc network.
if you don't want to do that each time, you can install cyanogenmod by quarx and it will automatically connect to your saved ad-hoc network
Maybe you should try update to 2.2/2.3 based rom.
Fyi, i'm now at MIUI rom & got no problems with ad-hoc wifi network.
Dont forget to activate Internet Connection Sharing (for windows user), just to assure your device got IP Address automatically.
P.S Sorry for my bad english

[Q] wifi adhoc "obtaining ip address"

Hi friends
Searched the forum and tried the proposed solutions but nothing helped.
I'm trying connect to addhoc wifi on my desire HD os=2.2
I replaced the wpa_supplicant file with one of those that exists on the forum and
indeed now i see adhoc networks but the connection is not stable - it goes like connecting -> obtaining ip address -> connected -> disconnected
and so on in loop ... i verified that the ip is static and i even put gateway+mask+dns.
when trying to ping the target it even sometimes succeeds!
Tried with several different adhoc targets and tried both wpa_supplicant for ver 0.5 & ver 0.6
Please does someone can help ?
thanks

My phone is samsung galaxy GT - I 5503. I do too and obtainging IP address...
This question not yet solved
I have the same issue with my sgs2. I get no connection ever, only a constant "Obtaining IP address.."
I'd suggest resetting your router and forgetting the network and trying to reconnect. Also a static IP might work but as for finding any of your provider's info, that's up to you. Unfortunately, XDA doesn't even recognize my network (Sasktel) so I am having a very tough time with this!
most probably firewall problem , i had same problem with hotspot doing exactly as you discribe.
it can also happen by some custom Roms and don't happen with others ( firewall disabled ) .
Also lot of sense Roms have an issue with that exact wifi problem , not like AOSP Roms ,i don't know why
I only had this problem with a network called; 'eduroam', my schools' network. I solved it by recotting & changing the network security TLS/TTLS/EAP or somethinf like that.

AdHoc Support & Internet Pass Through

Ok, I know someone will tell me this thread doesn't belong to the dev section, but it does.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT WIFI TETHERING - READ CAREFULLY!!!
There has been adhoc support in CM 7 for the G1 (Htc Dream) I used to own and it worked just fine with my laptop AdHoc connection.
There seems to be a problem with most AOSP and GB STOCK(ish) roms - including Darky and CM 7.1 Stable. They seem to detect the adhoc network when a modded wpa_supplicant is installed (in Darky it's installable by the Darky App and in CM it is included in the stock rom). When trying to connect there are two scenarios :
1. I don't specify IP address and Gateway and rely on the windows DHCP to assign an address.
What happens in most roms is the phone hangs on waiting for IP address and never connects. In MIUI roms the phone connects instantly, so I guess the issue is rom related.
2. I specify IP address (the laptop is 192.168.231.1, so I choose 192.168.231.2 for the phone, and the laptop IP for DNS and Gateway)
What happens in most roms is the phone just disconnects instantly giving no reason and continues scanning. I've actually managed to connect in some roms (CM 7.1 and Darky) but it happens to be very unstable - the wifi keeps on scanning for new networks and even if the phone is connected, there is no actual internet coming through. [EDIT] I flashed the latest CM Nightly and the connection worked flawlessly.
I have ran some logcats but they don't show significant information on what's actually happening.
My idea is to put some of the MIUI binaries into use, but I don't know which ones, except the wpa_supplicant are responsible for WIFI. Can some of you developers help me and possibly make an All-Types-Of-Roms solution.
[EDIT] The Adhoc Connection seems to beworking in latest CM Nightlies. There seems to be something different in AOSP roms like CM, that makes Adhoc connection work flawlessly. Any idea what is it?

T210R WiFi Issues

I'm at school where WiFi on my T210R used to work.
I am running Android 4.1.2 on Crash Rom V1.6 with Kernel Version 3.4.5.
Root apps installed are Titanium Backup, Greenify, AdAway, AFwall+ (disabled), Quick CPU Overclock
This is the troubleshooting that I have already done:
-Forget Network
-Turn Off Wifi
-Turn On Wifi
-Reconnect
-Repeat the above, but restart before turning wifi back on
-Wipe Cache in Recovery
-Factory Reset
-WiFi Roaming Fix
The network is built on a set of WiFi repeaters that use WPA2 PSK authentication.
I do not have access to the network (router) settings, so modifying router settings will not work
When entering a correct password, the device will try to connect but will not displace "Obtaining IP Address".
Instead, the device will show "saved, secured" and "authentication error' after a while.
The device will connect to most other networks that I have tried (Tethering on my Lumia 920, D-Link DIR 655 at home)
Thoughts? This is getting slowly becoming frustrating!
I had similar issues when flashing ROMs. It turned out that my router had some security mechanisms in place and conflict was caused when the same device came in with different ROMs on it. My guess is perhaps MAC related. At any rate, a router reboot fixed it. I know that doesn't help you much sorry.
