Install manufacturer specific apps/settings - Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking

Looking at the new settings for the HTC Radar I've noticed a few things--Attentive phone, quiet on pickup, etc.
I own a Samsung and just installed an app that installs extra GPS settings.
Would we be able to unify these and "cook" a ROM?

Anyone having trouble with wm6.5 v12?

Flashed NSFFAN's 6.5 v12, and works great for a day or two, then it freezes and losses all settings and deletes everythign! Soft reset or hard reset will get it to work teporarliy but it will only freeze again. Runing verizon radio 3.37.78. Any suggestions? Does anyone have v10 still? Might flash back to that. Thanks for your help.
Flash again... you should flash 2-3x when going to a new ROM to make sure it works right.
i have been running v12 for 2 days now and havent had any issues at all still smooth and very responsive
I'm having the same problem...I flashed twice and hard reset and still won't work properly after a few days. Is it because I'm installing games and apps that freeze up the rom??...I get frustrated when I have to restore all the apps and phone numbers from scratch repetitively...Is there anyway I could modify the autoconfig to change the settings to how I like them and have it install apps and games and restore my contacts using PIM Backup???....help pleeeeez!
NFSFAN roms support user customizations. Take a look at SdConfigGen; once you have it set up any time you flash it will install all your programs and xml provisioning files as part of the rom customization.

I installed v12 on 2 phones, with no issues. Both phones run flawlessly, and fast as hell.
Here's what else I have installed, mostly to the SD card.
Sprint MMS, Sprint DCD Carrier Cab, Pocket Earth 3.5 (slow) Skype, Team One's Reader 3, Fennec (it blows / VGA version I think), Sprint TV, Facebook, FIM, Cash Org 8, Opera 9, Efficasoft GPS Utils, Mobile Netflix, TT Nav 7 +USA/Canada, Warfare Inc, Tower Mogul, Guitar Hero IV, Arvale, Cops & Robbers, SPB Air Islands, Peggle, 5 more JAVA Games, etc. etc.
This ROM has been working absolutely great-
Here's some things I did that might work for other people -
Don't backup your old TXTs, Emails, Tasks, Appts or Contacts, and Don't restore them. Sync to google, MSN or an exchange server. I have my contacts, calender and appts. synced to Gmail and to my work's exchange server, it restores them all when you first sync. On my V-11 install I restored all of that from PIM Backup and it bogged my phone like mad / froze whenever I went into my texts from Titanium. On my V-12 install, I just backed them up but never restored- no more Text issues.
Pull out your SD Card prior to flashing-
Flash W/O SD Card installed.
Fully FORMAT your SD Card, install after all customizations run.
I know, the SD should not affect performance at all, but for some reason I had all kinds of crap on mine. When I formated and installed it like new on this last install, all my problems went away.
Been working awesome ever since.
Double Post- oops.

but how do I make modifications to the file?...is there a tutorial that has screen shots??... or even better a video??
Same problem here. I had very few apps installed.
I flashed 2 Sprint HTC Touch. 1 with problems and 1 without problems.
The one without the problem went from WM6.1 to WM6.5 V12 without any problems. I tried to troubleshoot by pinpointing software but it seems like it's a ROM problem.
The one with problems has been consistantly updated with WM 6.5 V10, V11, then V12....once at V12 it would freeze and HARD RESETS!!! FREQUENTLY! I reflashed it 4x and hard reset after each time....all with the same result...random HARD RESETS. I don't konw why...had to downgrade from 6.5 to 6.1 v1.12 spint
No real issues to speak of with the following:
I have
Resco Radio
WunderRadio
EZinput V2.388 keyboard
CAnalogClock, CFacebook facebook&FIM home plug in and apps
Memory status (Titanium system) plug in
Ccomm manager plug in
iContact
Core Player
Skyfire
Music ID
Activesync set up with my google account
Advanced Task manager
Rhodium HTC Calculator
I'm at around 45-48 mem usage on average when idle. i was using vista battery gauge, but I found it slowing the system and using battery for soem wierd reason.
PS: I know the plug ins show WiFi even though the vogue doesn't have it, but they are super useful none the less.
I have notice some flaws with the VZW 6.5
Contacts:
If I select a person that I want to call & if there are multiple numbers is where I notice the problem. I think the mobile number is the first option by default. If I use the D-pad to select say the work number the screen reverts back to the top of the contacts list.
Call History:
I can’t use the D-pad to simply scroll through call history. When I get passed the fourth number all the numbers are highlighted blue & the names become illegible.
eWallet:
If I need to look at a password key I should only have to tap the selection once but I have to tap twice. Then it brings me to the screen to edit the fields which isn’t correct.
These issues may seem to be relatively minor but I didn’t have these issue with the VZw 6.1 ROM
massive reboot
i've flashed my Telus CDMA with the WM6.5 V12 ROM and my phone reboot and reboot and reboot... i've flashed 3 times now and it still reboot again and again but only when i disconnect the usb cable, when it's plugged to the phone, it goes well but always when i disconnect the cable.. phone restart. What can cause that failure ?
One little thng I noticed is the icons on the left side of the call history screen is missing.
Got it to work
To fix the problem, I did the following:
-Went to HTC's website and downloaded the latest Sprint ROM.
-Reinstalled V12.
A couple of notes:
-I was using radio 3.42.50. After downloading the official rom, I have 3.42.30.
-I had to repeat the process twice because the first time I did it, I had no data. The second time through I verified I had data with the official ROM before upgrading to V12.

That would be the correct thing to have done in the first place. Flashing your own carriers radio and letting customizations rrun helps ensure your phone is properly provisioned. The difference between the .30 and .50 radio is virtually none. Back when the 6.1 updates first came out (including the 3.xx radios with rev.a and gps) people were updating other carriers radio's to get gps, rev a etc. Now that most carriers have had official 6.1 updates since last August or so that is not required.
The only possible exception might be the verizon slaves with the gps problems.

Phone will not sync date and time automatically

Hey guys,
I just flashed my T-Mobile Dash Black with EVO's latest WM 6.5 ROM
However, I can't get the time and date to sync automatically via the network
Can someone help me out?
Did this work before with the old ROM? I have never seen this happen actually on any of my devices. Usually they are time-synced from the PC via the AS connection - which only happens if you establish a partnership and not in guest mode.
I've seen this happen on other phone models after flashing to a rom not provided by your carrier. For example, I once flashed an old Samsung phone that had Tmobile ROM to a generic Samsung ROM that had more features. The old ROM would sync the time with Tmobile whenever phone was reset or at regular intervals (I have no idea what intervals, 24 hrs, 1 week?). The new ROM, in spite of having entered all the correct settings for GPRS/WAP and selecting 'automatically update date/time' couldn't synchronize.
I suspect there's some 'magic code' carriers have in their ROMs to enable this but I haven't been able to find any info regarding this since I flashed that phone back in 2003! I purchased a Samsung SGH-720, a tri-band GSM carrier unlocked phone that also couldn't sync the date/time in spite of enabling the option.
Since you're running a modded ROM you'll have to rely on a third-party time sync app. There's a freeware one by SKTools called TSync. It's nothing fancy and won't automatically sync - you have to manually run the app but it works! I changed my date and time to incorrect values and TSync corrected both. Maybe someone else can recommend a good time sync app, preferably free
Two caveats - First, it doesn't know how to initiate an internet connection on EDGE/GPRS - it will give you a 'resource not found' error. Use IE or whatever just to establish a web connection, exit, then run TSync and it will sync with various NIST time servers. They can be edited with the included TSynccfg. Second, you obviously need to have a data plan. With the carrier provided roms no data plan is need to sync date/time.
I would really like to know how the carrier roms time sync - I used to have a Moto Razor V3 that would automatically sync and this was before I had a data plan!
Actually, my problem was fixed after I rebooted the phone.
I've noticed that with 3VO's 6.5 ROM you almost need to reboot the phone everytime you change certain phone settings and/or certain UI settings.
Which is nothing more than an inconvenience, buts it fixed now.
Thanks for the replies.

Things after upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile - any solve?

My third device, main one and the only able to run supported version of Windows 10 Mobile - Microsoft Lumia 640 LTE Dual SIM Country Variant Russia RM-1075, before it there were Highscreen WinJoy and the first is Nokia Lumia 620. Backup from L620 were applied on WinJoy and then backup from WinJoy were applied on 640 when I become an owner of it.
I never used Windows Insider on this one, upgraded by the first hours update made available via Upgrade Advisor.
First I thought it all went well, but today I can provide a list of what is broken:
Groove Music app on All apps list has no icon. App is working
TeamViewer: Remote Control listed twice. When I`m trying to delete it, nothing happens, "faked" one not listed in Storage utility at the Settings and produce black screen when trying to launch it (just start screen wents black, no actual app starting). Working one, app with the icon is just works, can be deleted, can be installed if deleted, no impact on that fake.
Many apps were with the blank icon at the Storage utility, even if they has icon on it`s tile or in the All apps list. I just reinstalled those I could remove and their icons at the Storage were fixed. MiracastView and PrintDialog still has the accent color only. I'm unable or afraid to delete those as they something like system apps, they`re not listed anywhere else.
Sometimes my phone just reboots with no reason, may be just lying on the table without any move while that. It happens once per one or two days.
Device Portal. Just nothing on the tab Home and list of installed apps never loading at the Apps tab. Processes, Networks and all the rest works. I tried to use thirdparty app Device Diagnostics HUB, it produces Server Internal Error 500 when trying to access the Apps tab, nevermind running on phone itself or connected remotely via Wi-Fi from the PC
There is an app without name or icon trying to be installed or update, I don`t know, at the Store. It produces 0x81030131 error after every try. Trying to download 5.7 megabytes, mates with similar issue also reports about 11.5 megabytes
I know there is Hard reset may help but I have many apps and games which data will not be recovered via backup, also some apps are no longer listed into Windows Store.
Is there any I can do about that? My phone is not hacked yet by now but I`m open for any suggestions that will lead not to anything related to flashing/reflashing the entire phone. Thanks
you must do hard reset if you want your device work fine... and dont use backup settings. make clean setup from start...
also many unavailable apps is available to install via My Library section in Store with this i installed many old and removed apps from store.
downgrade to 8.1.

Disable Car Mode on M8

I've got this strange bug lately where carmode just activates itself for no reason.
Is there any way to disable it permanently? It seems to be part of the android system and not a seperate app.
I've got a GPE Rom and the international version of the M8.

Its both a separate app, and part of the system, its a system app.
The app is called Car, and it appears you can disable it in Settings>Apps>Car.
Otherwise, it looks like you have a custom ROM (since you stated international M8, but with GPE ROM) and root? In which case, another option is to freeze/uninstall the Car app using Titanium Backup or similar tool. I would recommend freezing it first, and see if that adversely affects anything, before trying to uninstall it outright.
Either way, disabling or freezing Car app, should prevent the phone from going into car mode.
Thanks for your response.
The problem is, I can't find any kind of car app in the settings (with system processes enabled) or with titanium.

They might call it something else on GPE. I'm a Sense user, and its definitely called "Car" in Sense.
Another option, there are some apps on the Play Store that allow you to toggle off car mode.
As I found on another forum, this bug is likely caused by some hardware problem.
So i tried to clean the usb port by blowing into it and it seems to work at least for now.
All the apps including exposed apps didn't work btw.

Optus X Smart 4G smartphone

After purchasing several Optus X Smart 4G smartphones outright that are currently being sold in Australian stores I felt the need to make others aware.
Despite being branded as an Optus mobile phone it is actually an Alcatel mobile phone that comes shipped with some nasty packages, one being "Files" that after several days of enjoying your new purchase is upgraded to "File Manager" an application which now runs a boost application (Hawk Super Cleaner/ antivirus).
This boost application runs 24/7 and nags the user to click an icon then displays advertising. When you remove this application it defaults back to the factory installed version that does not contain "File Manager" stuffed with the boost aplication.
Being installed as an Android System App "File Manager" stuffed with Hawk Super Cleaner/ antivirus is granted with higher Android Operating System App permissions than the end user has limited controll over which brings privacy and security concerns to the device IMHO.
To stop automatic updates that will reinstall the boost aplication a user needs to log onto the Google Playstore and go into settings, then check do not automatically update applications to stop ALL playstore automatic app upgrades. Doing this in the phones bundled "Updates" aplication has no affect in stopping the automatic reinstall. Caveat being that Playstore app upgrades now ALL need manually input from the user who needs to remain mindfully to not update "File Manager".
The other option is to run "File Manager", go into settings and turn off the on screen alerts, this will allow "File Manager" stuffed with Hawk Super Cleaner/ antivirus to run 24/7 on the device and be granted with the many permissions you (like myself) may not want to (and never did) accept upon uograde / install,. However, the on screen displays will be gone from the phone.
Don't bother trying to stop it on the Android operating system level via options like disable app, do not allow peeking and rely on uninstall to the factory shipped version of the app as Android and Included bloatware settings do not act as expected and it will automatically install itself again, also displaying on screen despite the end users wishes and Android settings being checked.
Never being advertised that the phone would have on screen advertising to the end user or forced third party apps as part of the Android operating system I have made a complaint to Optus, the communications ombudsman, the "File Manager" developer, Playstore, Play Protect, XDA forum and anywhere else that I felt relevant.
My unconfirmed fear is that this device may allow the manufacturer to controll bloatware updates in the future via a command and control server rather than exclusively at the Playstore, hopefully this is an unjustified fear and one day the Playstore can clamp down on this type of unwanted and non authorised Android System App behaviour and put security fears to rest.
Currently awaiting an outcome
UPDATE: The Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman has forwarded my complaint to Optus for a resolve.
My argument was that Optus sold a product and forcefully allowed a third party aplication (Hawk Super Cleaner/ antivirus) to be side loaded and included as an Android system App, which in my opinion is outside the scope of Optus being simply a supply conduit to internet services as Optus now dictates what third party app the customer of this product must use 24/7 and without a reasonable opt out.
I have also suggested that Play Protect offer the end user the option to force a single Android System App from updating and add a detection flag for Android System Apps that stuff a third party aplication and byspass the new app install agreement methods used by the Playstore, AI is needed to detect mass user bases being unfairly exploited for the means of profit at the flick of a switch.
Hopefully the 4 devices purchased are given an easy Android System App uninstall option for bloatware that advetises on this phone by default, or get side loaded onto the phone without end user authorisation and after the purchase of the product has been made.
Otherwise replacement phones of similar specs that have Android as expected and advertised on the product box, and without forced Android System App advertising will be preferred for complaint resolution.
Now awaiting complaint communications from Optus.
Hi have you tried 'rooting' the phone to control the system better and remove that type of application? I have heard it may be the only way to stop such apps when standard obvious methods fail. (You will have to Google that as I know nothing more than what I have read). I would be pleased to know how you go with that as I have thought about doing it with my own phone but I haven't had as much of a problem as you are experiencing. ([email protected])
Put a custom recovery on it if there isnt one available im more than happy to build one for it if you would like and then flash magisk root
Install es file explorer, grant system root permissions and remove the file manager completely by deleting it then replace with another stock one in which you know has nothing being forced on you,
I was in the same boat have the optus x spirit next up from smart and the amount of 3rd party applications is to be quite honest shocking in my opinion i developed a TWRP for the X spirit and did exactly what i mentioned above no problems now
