I realize that the Android OS has not had a Screen Capture ability built in, however some mods and ROMs have installed/created a way to get Screen Caps by pressing the Power/Lock and Home button to get them.
I am rooted and on the latest release of the OTA 2.3.4, but I wanted to know if there was a way to install/enable the screen shot abilitly like in previous ROMs I used.
Kind of like how I installed/updated the QuickSettings control in the notifications pull down - I was hoping there was an install package to enable this screen shot ability.
Thanks!

Well there is always market apps that are capable of this. Otherwise there isn't any flashable mods that will give you this function. This mod is a mod that must be baked into a rom before it is installed. Requires a certain apk, build.prop edit, a certain lib and the android.policy.jar must be capable of this function.
I use and recommend Shooter.

I recommend Drocap2
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.gmail.nagamatu.drocap2
I used it in the past with rom that didn't had the screenshot mod and it work perfect
Sent From My Optimized HTC Incredibly Dinc
Get a CM7 nightly, it has the screen cap feature built into the power screen. Or get ShootMe. Both work
Sent from my Droid Incredible running some random CM7 nightly.
Thanks Everyone, appreciate the feedback.
I didnt want to use one of the other ROMs right now, I just went back to the OTA Rooted ROM that was posted a few days ago and figured I would wait it out until some of the ROMs were rebuilt with the new OTA release and became stable.
Thanks again for the responses!

I'm on MikFroYo with Slayer69's CYAN Dragon Theme I have vanilla lock screen. I want menu unlock. Every thing I find is how to disable it. I tried
the app on the market but it dose not work. If anybody can help it would be greatly appreciated.
Me too. I'd also like a way to undim my screen with the power button. My top button has just about bit the dust.
Swyped from my Evo on steroids.
Nobody knows how to do this.
Lol I know it's on cm but I don't like cm. The aosp phone sucks, and I don't like adw or any other launcher other than stock.

Not sure I can help but don't understand the "I want menu unlock". Can you explain this better or in a different way so I get a grasp on what you want to do?
When i had Fresh rom I would remove HTC lock screen and would be able to swipe the screen to unlock or push the menu button. It seems like everybody is disabling this.
Sorry for the delay.
This is what I would try first after doing a nand backup of course!
Click on the paperclick by the Fresh Rom post and download "Rosie.apk". Install it and should overwrite the one Mik uses. This might give you what your looking for.
However, I could be wrong and it may just change the theming. But easy to return to what you have now with quick restore. I found a zip to add this feature but it was for Fresh on the Hero (which is where it originally came from). Not sure if it would work for the EVO.
Let me know if this didn't work and I will try to help further.
NM...here is what you want.

Just download the "Remove HTC Lockscreen" and flash it. Will give you the Vanilla Lockscreen and allow unlock using menu button according to thread.
*BUMP* See my previous post for solution.
Did not work it was disabled in the rom or the theme. If you look at the rotary lock screen post he disables it. I do not have that mod just an example. Some roms have it some do not. It has to do with the vanilla lock screen. With the theme I have he says to rename the HTC lockscreen app. witch lets the vanilla lock screen work.
I've been using the Blu Kuban mod for months and really liked the color schemes, being able to take screenshots by holding the power button, the expanded toggle bar at the top of the pull down, the transparent pulldown... Essentially, there were a tons of things I liked... until my phone died and I got a new stock unit.
Apparently, I've been missing voicemails for months, GPS locks on instantly now, 4g speeds are amazing, and the phone seems a bit more responsive...
So, I'm wondering how many things I can change from the stock rom to get rid of the stupid bloat crap but what I should keep to maintain functionality. Also, can I change the drop down/toggle bar/color/themes on the stock rom?
Thanks

root and use rom toolbox to remove all the bloat apps. as for the toggles im pretty sure theres a thread in the themes section with toggle themes for TW roms, but im not to sure on that
If youre question is how far can you go then the awnser would be AOSP

So here's the deal, I'm looking to upgrade from my HTC Sensation 4G in about 6-months, and I'm debating the Galaxy S4 vs the Nexus 5. As in 6-months both will be roughly $300-$400 used. The only major advantage to me that the Nexus 5 will have is the S800, while the S4 has a removable Battery (VERY useful to me) and a MicroSD slot. And I'm torn regarding the physical button = more screen space VS beautiful onscreen buttons = less screen space.
This brings me to my 1 question regarding the S4, is there a cross-ROM mod that changes the default function of the menu button to recent apps switcher, with long-pressing bringing up the menu?
Reason I'm asking is the Sensation's default menu button action is just that, the menu button, the same as on the S4. And I hate it.
I LOVE the recent apps switcher, but the only Rom that allows me to change the button action is CM, every other ROM only allows the Menu action. Is this also the case with the S4? I'd rather not be stuck with CM forever.
Thank's for the help.
P.S. If any of you had a Sensation before the S4 and found a mod for the Sensation to change the default action of the Menu button for every ROM, can you share it? Thanks!

I had the Sensation. I know just what you mean.
I don't think there is a cross ROM mod that does this. But most custom ROMs have this as a built in feature, to be able to remap the function of the physical home button and the virtual menu and back buttons. You can remap the function of either quick press or long press.
I know that all AOSP ROM's have this feature and most TW roms do too.
So just flash any custom ROM and you will likely get what you are looking for.
Look into Xposed modules. I think this kind of thing is exactly what the dev had in mind. There's an Xposed module for just about any kind of mod or customization you can think of.

So every custom ROM has the option to change it? Even AOKP, PA, and others? Because AOKP and PA don't give any custom button mapping option on the sensation.

How would I look into them? An app? A flashable zip? Don't have much direct programming knowhow. :-\
Edit: Installed Xposed framework. Where would I find the mod to change the button mapping? Thanks.

The next step is getting Xposed modules. These are basically mods that change functionality, and they use the Xposed framework to work.
I think this module does what you want:

Really?
It's a native feature of CM for all devices, including the Sensation, which AOKP and PA both heavily utilize.
So let me rephrase to be more accurate to what I actually know....all CM based ROMs for the S4 hav this feature. The vanilla AOSP roms might not.

Thanks. it's really good but unfortunately no haptic feedback on button presses. :-\ Otherwise it would be perfect. I tried gravitybox as it also has the button remap option, but my "systemUI is not responding" when it's active. :'( Any fix for that? Or does it just have issues with CM?

Darn, that's the same on the sensation, whenever I install a 4.2/4.3 AOKO or PA or AOSP ROM it doesn't have the feature. I read that they moved away from CM as a source after 4.1 and that's why it's different. Well could you do me a favor? Can you try the gravitybox module in xposed framework and see if it works on the S4? I tried it on my sensation running CM 10.1 and it breaks my SystemUI. I also tried Xposed additions and it works but doesn't give haptic feedback, which is a downer for me.
Thanks!

Gravitybox isn't compatible with CM iirc.
please take all further discussion to the sticky thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433835
I never thought such a simple thing would bug me so much but not having a dedicated menu button on my HTC One is driving me up the wall. I'm running CM10.2, and I know I can convert the home key single or double tab function into a menu button but I would prefer the logo to be my menu key as I haven't been able to train myself to accept the home key mods.
That being said all of the kernels I look at say they will work on sense roms or google play edition roms. I can't seem to find anything that specifically says it will work with Cyanogenmod. If someone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you.
I believe the AOSP edition of Lunar kernel will work, at least there was a comment of someone using it. Make a nandroid and give it a shot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2594677

Thanks, I gave that a shot and it froze my phone within 10 minutes of use. I'll have to keep an eye on it.
Elite Lunar AOSP is for kitkat not jellybean. We do not have a kernel for that version of AOSP...but there might be one floating around the international forum.
Are you talking about the 3 dots menu icon? If so I had this issue for a while too. If I remember correctly you can change it in settings. I think it's in Settings >Hardware. I'm no longer using CM so i'm not 100% sure.
If you're talking about something else, I apologize.
Think he is talking about the menu button that's just above the HTC logo.

Yeah the have the option. Any of the AOSP kernels should work on CM.
Just so you know the HTC logo as menu is very close to the edge of the screen. When I tried to hit the space bar many times I would get a menu button press.
Well hello Lads and Gents,
I've been using the PACman ROM, which unfortunately hasn't been updated for a year, for a long time and I was amazed by the variety of functions available in this All-in-One ROM! But a weird bug in the ParanoidAndroid options (will talk about it later) annoyed me, so Mustaavalkosta's CM11 release got my attention.
I have to say that KitKat is pretty cool! But for some odd reason, my Google Calendar isn't syncing at all, the extended desktop feature doesn't change a thing, Trebuchet went full retard so I had to delete and replace it with a version designed for non-rooted phones, random freezes, etc. (will add more when I find more)
Nevertheless CM11 features nice data protection options and other little things that I didn't have in the PACman ROM (as it's JellyBean), while PACman ROM had nice features I don't have in CM11...
So my core question is: Is there a way to install AOKP and PA features in CM11? I really loved Pie and the notification bar customization (PA) was really cool too, even though it didn't work for me. I'd appreciate any hints on how to add new features (from other ROMs) on my phone without f*cking it up.
Also, is over the air updating possible for the nightlies?
And about that weird ParanoidAndroid notification bar customization bug: The problem was that the scaling of the settings were wrong. To be able to access the field where the color is set, I had to turn my phone to landscape mode. But when I did that the color palette which opened had its save button outside of the screen, no way to scroll. If I turned it back into portrait mode, the dialogue simply disappeared! I tried everything to fix it but I had no chance. So I've been unable to change any of the notification bar settings for ANY app.
Thanks in advance!

You could either build your own ROM with the features you want, or find replacement apps. There's not really a drag-and-drop method for adding new features.

So that means I have to learn ROM coding? Oh lord... I thought there might be an easier way to bypass just this solution.
