I am rooted and I like the stock ROM from Sprint. But I like some of the elements of Sense 3.0. Is there any way to port some of the elements i.e. the lockscreen, the battery percent, the app drawer, recent apps in the taskbar, etc.? I have tried simply moving the .apk files between ROMs but that does not work. Are there any .zips I can flash to achieve what I want without changing the actual ROM? Or is there a way I can edit my current ROM and make a .zip from that and flash essentially making my own ROM? I have searched and none of the flashing I have found or done has worked aside from just changing ROMs.

Its not hard, I dual boot between ubuntu and linux. A word of advice: IF you want the windows partition to see the ubuntu partition, you need to use ext 2 or 3, it won't see it if its in ext 4.
Yeah. I've used Ubuntu before, as well as many other distros. Ubuntu is the most simple probably. I'll post when I have the kitchen up and running. Again thanks for the help.

Hello all, i was wondering if it was possible to take a rom made by someone, and remove some of the apps installed on it and maybe add a few others. Thanks in advance.

Of course it is. That's what the ROM cookers do, and is the basis for these forums.
It will take a LOT of studying in order to pull it off, but everything you need to do it is provided by the gurus who build the utilities and give them to us here.
You will need to do a lot of searching, studying, reading and practicing. I don't believe you will find someone who will be able to spoon-feed you. It will take a lot of effort and perseverence.
Probably the easiest way will be with the likes of Pandora's Kitchen. But you should really read up on things...even with that kitchen, so that you know what you're doing.
Good luck,

So you can't just uninstall apps that are built into the ROM, just like any other application, if I'm getting this right?

Extended ROM is a memory area on your phone that typically holds some customization programs that are run when you boot your device for the first time after a hard-reset. It is typically about 10MB of space on a Hermes. Unlocking it gives you access to this space, which you can then use as if it was another memory card ... storing applications and/or data there. Using this space comes with its own set of ramifications, which you should read up on before attempting any modifications.
Unlocking this space does not do anything about programs and files that are flashed to your phone with the ROM. These files can be "masked", but can never be deleted or overwritten through normal phone usage. The only way to change what programs are installed at Hard Reset is to customize the ROM before flashing it to the phone. That is why the current trend with ROM cooking is to make the ROM as lean as possible, so that apps can be added, updated and deleted at will.
Hope this helps,
-pvs
PS: "MASKING" files in ROM is what happens if you attempt to overwrite one with a file by the same name. What happens here is that the old file is really still there ... taking up the same space it used to, but the new file is the one that the OS sees. It is MASKING the old file. If you delete the new file you just copied there, the old one magically reappears, and cannot be deleted.

im wondering if we can boot into recovery, flash images in order to apply themes, fonts, etc. i've tried rebooting into recovery using better terminal pro, rom manager and it says not permitted..is there any way i can have my phone to boot into recovery like lets say..using android commander, it does its job..you think that will work? thanks
I would like to know this as well, does anybody knows? Reef?
I assume by the nature of how the build is setup, you can't easily (at least not through the normal procedure) or even at all. However, I could be very wrong. Would like to see an answer from a pro.

Yeah, I'd like some new themes and colors, but as far as I can tell, it can't happen, at least for a while. Maybe someone will figure out a work around, but I doubt well see it happening without a specific fix or app for the rhod and xdandroid set up devices.

There are no themes for Fresh 4.2 ROM at this time. This is a pretty much stock ROM with few numerous improvements, so any MOD that is not ROM-specific, but works with the latest GB OTA, should flash fine. Again, you have to make sure these MODs are NOT designed for a specific ROM.
To remove clock from the status bar see this post:

Hey buddy, I am also looking for a theme to mingle with fresh 4.2 I've been looking but haven't found anything, not even generic themes mentioned already that work with any gingerbread roms. If you find anything let me know, and if I find anything I will let you know.

The kitchen is "full". But it looks as though there may have been folks who have cooked up their own stuff that would work with gingerbread roms. Is there anyway that we can tell and download someone elses concoction?

If you are working on porting the phone to the VS660, LW690, US670, or MS690 with the eventual goal of inclusion in the IHO repository please check in here.
I'm trying port this for the ms690. I'll admit it's a bit over my head but I have a rooted and flashed M and a rooted but stock M at my disposal and a working android development environment.
My rom is compiling now after fixing the typo in the mms_config.xml. I would like to help get the proper changes in the IHO repo if I get this working, but I have absolutely no idea how all that works.
I'll update here if I get my rom compiled and let ya know how it runs. Anyone know how long it should take to completely compile a rom error free? I'm running 2 dual core xeons at 2ghz... This is a long compile for a >100MB file, heh.
Has anyone successfully ported using Ubuntu 11.xx on a 32 bit, vmware setup? I got it to work with wubi, but that messed up my windows. Can you run Ubuntu off of a thumb drive but use your hard drive for storage?

1. I thought you couldn't successfully compile on 32 bit since 2.2
2. Setting up a development environment in vm? or on a flash drive? Do you really deserve that kind of punishment?
I guess you could build on a persistent usb but but it sounds scary to me. I don't know if you could properly mount a drive in live usb, seems like you would need your build folder on a hdd or a 32gig flash.
Backup your stuff and throw on an ext partition. Your building will be easier in a native environment and a clean windows install never hurts.
My compile is stopped. I've been poking around and I don't think I'm gonna figure this out like all the other BS I've figured out.
GRRR this is ****ing stupid, tried to post my error but the forum thinks that xxx.xml is a web address and wont let me post cuz I don't have enough posts. If anyone can help me shoot me a PM I'm not gonna spam the forums to get my posts to post a ****ing error log. If I ever met a spammer I would kick him in the nuts for all the bull**** I have to deal with because of the crap...

I had problems setting up a good build environment with 11.04, but 10.10 64 bit with VMware works great for me on Windows 7 64 bit.

I don't own a OC, I built it for a friend. He tells me that GPS, BT, and MMS are not working.
So I got my very own zip file, backed, wiped flashed, my phone told me It was "bad" so I went and restored my backup it said bad md5, I thaught no big deal, I keep a couple backups handy, all 3 of them said bad md5. It'll probably take a couple of hours to compile. The easiest way to get everything included is to file a pull request on Github. Keep in mind I'm not going to accept any applications (so that rules out the real popular MMS patches floating around for the C and M). Most of the stuff for the M is already in the tree, I believe...
Some of the other stuff like cnd probably won't get fixed /just/ yet, but I'll rename the keymap file. What else did you have to change?

Someone mentioned that IHO wasn't computing checksums properly in the general dev thread. Try using another recovery and/or making sure your build box isn't on its way out?
Anyhow I'm using a 32-bit Ubuntu 10.04.3 VM to build everything and it works just fine for me (definitely need to throw some more RAM at the machine tho).

I had to fix a typo on a tag in the mms_config.xml, I think using the cnd from the V was a no no, so i commented out the cnd in the build. There was an extra space in a string in an xml file I can't remember that needed removed. Other than that I just put in the ko files and the gps libs and it was building fine.
I fixed the last error I had which was about 2.5 hours into the build and started the compile over... Then my workstation shut down. It refuses to even post. Tried a new video card to no avail. Dual xeon running rambus ram, LOL. Don't have any parts laying around for it other than drives and video cards.
My port is kind of stalled at the moment, heh.
Just thinking out loud:

Is the "LG Optimus One, P500, > Optimus V Android Development" thread for all Optimus phones? Or just the V?

Unfortunately I don't think so. Themes apply to the entire system UI so if it's not set up to accept themes then it won't work. You basically have to run a rom like Nseven or another that has theme store support if you want themes.

Sure, I followed this guide here- https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...asy-guide-how-to-root-verizon-galaxy-t3454593
It may take you a few tries, some parts are dependent on timing cause you have to kind of rapid-fire throw commands at ADB, but it does work.
As for the port, I've been running it for about 6 weeks now and it's pretty great. I've tried various other roms but I always come back to Nseven.
