Firstly, I apologise if this has been asked before. I have had a good look round and can't find any reference to it.
I have just received an new defy handset back from the Motorola repair centre (6th time in 3 months, 4th handset!). It is running the 3.4.2_177-3 Retail enGB rom, as with my previous handset(s). However, I have noticed when I receive email (standard pop3/imap email, not yahoo!, gmail, etc.) the icon used in the notification bar is grey, where previously it has always been red (same as the application icon).
Has anyone else seen this before and/or explain why I might see the difference straight out of the box?
Thank you for your help!
I have an italian Defy, shipped with 2.1.1 and now upgraded to 2.2.2.
Never had the red icon didn't even notice there was an icon, I simply thought there was no icon for this notification!
Is there anyway to fix it? maybe with root access?
thanx!
Edit: in mine the icon is not grey, is completely missing
never had a red one on gb, just froyo.........

Hey, just send the phone back. By now they're probably recycling all your old phones back to you anyway.

I've got a Dash running WM6.
It always shows that I've got 1 voice mail message. If I have 5, it shows 1. If my voice mail box is empty, it shows 1.
Does anyone know what controls this? Is it a registry key? If so, can you tell me which one?
Thanks in advance!

Hi, did you found the solution for this, I have the same problem with my Excalibur with Ricky's 6.1 ROM
Thats weird, try to restart the phone. Also, what network are you guys running on your phones?
I had the same problem here, but it was after I had installed on of the many weather programs here.
It was getting on my nerves so bad i reflashed and it still showed up.
Eventually, I called myself, left a message, and promptly went in and deleted it... Then it was fixed.
Who knows.

That is weird that you had to do that. I also had to reflash my phone because of so many weather applications that my whole phone got screwed up badly.
Same thing here, go to HKCU\System\State\Messages\Vmail\Total\Unread and check the count, if it has a count then set it to 0.

I had the same thing and that worked to fix it. I think i figured out that if you check your voicemail and then lose signal before your phone gets the response from your voicemail to dismiss voicemail notification, it will stay until you get another voicemail and keep signal after you disconnect. Who knows though.
Panel Notification - Voicemail
Anyone has found the solution for this problem?
I have the same problem in my Samsung i637 with WM6.5
I have a htc desire on orange uk. The gmail labs feature 'green robot' allows you to show/see if you have an android phone or not, by an icon next to users.
When i use my new desire, it doesn't show that i have android against my account . Is this an orange issue with talk not being available? other users show fine.
yh mine went as well, i tink it happen when i changed the keyboard to the one where u can choose speach to txt
via what setting?

Those icons show your Talk status. If you are using the Orange firmware, you aren't signed into Talk on an Android phone. And even when you are logged in, it doesn't show your own icon as a robot, just anyone else's.
Day one and fallen fowl of the lack of gtalk/talk.
Annoying as hell that. Thanks for nothing Orange :-(
Hope you rethink that in future updates.
Has anyone found a solution yet ? I mean its no big deal but its just annoying why my icon is not a "Robot" instead of a "dot" .
Ive enabled it on gmail labs and still its not showing up.
Hello Everyone,
I've lurk around the forums often. I just reflashed my HTC Tilt 2 last night with the new At&t ROM. I had the 1.59 version, or something similar to that. I tried searching the forums, but I'm only getting results on how to disable the annoying Message Sent notification.
There are many things I liked from the old ROM, but one thing that is really bugging me is the new texting box and text message notification.
Before I go into detail, On my old ROM I disabled TouchFlo 3d, and on the new ROM I've done the same, I disabled HTC Sense from the today screen.
With the old text notification popup of the sms you could see the message briefly on the bottom and being able to choose to view or dismiss.
With the new reflashed ROM I get the text notification popup of the sms, but there is no option to view or Dismiss, I only get an option to Hide the text.
is this a common problem with the new rom? I haven't seen it in any threads so far, or maybe I'm not looking hard enough.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you
No one else is having this issue with the new ROM?

I 'think' this is a WM6.5 thing, and not a at&t rom issue. The Windows default Today screen has a nice text messages display on the screen. Maybe thats why they felt neccessary to remove the "reply" and "menu" options in the notification pop up?

This is an issue with the new AT&T Rom w/sense. I posted about it in 2-3 threads and have had 2-3 other people confirm that this is happening after the Rom update, so I know it's not a software issue, plus I did a hard reset today and the issue is still there.
I want a fix for this too, but haven't seen anyone come up with one yet.
It sucks to get our messages and only be able to hide them, not hit the "view" button so we can reply right there.
Are you sure that the AT&T ROM did not upgrade you from WM 6.1 to 6.5?

i dont recall the menu/reply option being on the pop up after the 6.1-6.5 transition for my T-Mobile,so i second this guy
At&t has had 6.5 on all its roms for this phone, likely cause it was the last US carrier to get this phone. ;D
it's the new rom, cause this was a feature on the original rom released from at&t, I have both saved to jump back and forth when needed.
oh yeah, this issue is listed in the tweaks/issues , etc thread for the new at&t rom too.
I'm having the exact same issue. Can someone point me to that tweaks/issues thread that (hopefully) has the fix?

Hi all,
I noticed now in Gingerbread the sms and htc mail icons no longer hold their unread count display after opening and closing the app (without reading the messages/mails). Is there a mod anywhere to change it to how it was in Froyo? Ie always display unread count apart from zero...
Cheers.
No one else having this issue?
I found that SMS Unread can replace the SMS widget ico - the icon is not the correct size tho. Displays the unread permanantly tho.
Can't find a workaround for the HTC Mail tho. What with this and the fact that Exchange Sync syncs non-stop with Gmail in the HTC Mail app. Bit annoying.
that's one annoyance with the gingerbread update ... really wish it would show the actual unread count not just the unread count since the last time you went into the app.
I have the same issue.. Very anoying indeed!
Anyone ever figure anything out on this one. Just gone to Gingerbread on Desire, and it is somewhat annoying.
Never got it figured. it was too annoying so i went back to froyo, which i'm very happy with. a friend of mine just got a Sensation. it has the same problem. crazy.

How did you downgrade to Froyo?
I'm planning to do that same and unable to figure out how... The only reason is unread count not getting display in the mail app....
-PretoriaZ.
i flashed leedroid's froyo rom 2.29. very happy.
Got phone yesterday, T-mobile G3 D851, so far have one major issue - LED notification doesn't work for Gmail. It works for Twitter, missed phone calls, text messages, but Gmail is dead, I have to wake up phone every time I want know if I have new mail. My previous phone is G2, still have it, no such problems. I searched G3 settings, left no stone unturned, nothing. Google search brings only one result from xda-devs where poster complains about same issue, but the thread is short, no one gives him a good advice, and it's not clear which G3 he has, EU, ATT, Tmobile or etc.
The lack of outcry on the web makes me think that it's just me and the phone has to be exchanged. If you can, please confirm my worst fears or tell me how to fix this.
Tnanks a bunch.

Yeah, root isn't available yet, I'm on stock rom. I got it on Friday the 11th. Are messages getting pushed to your phone? Check label settings in your gmail tabs and make sure notifications are checked. They weren't for me initially.

It works now, your advice helped. Turns out Gmail doesn't have separate check box for LED notification, just checkboxes for vibration/sound which aslo affect LED. LED frequency is slow, but at least I know my G3 is not defective. Thank you.
