Boot Animation on stock rom - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have swapped out the bootanimation file in bin, I have edited the xml to point to the new one, and I have searched and searched and couldn't find a solution. All I am trying to do is have a custom boot animation on stock GB rom. No matter what I do, I get either the stock VZW one or none. I get none when I remove the VZW_bootanimation.zip. If anyone could help that would be appreciated.

You need to copy over a new one but leave it in the same location and name it the same "VZW_bootanimation.zip" Rename the old one something different but keep it there as a backup.

First off are you rooted? Second are you running a custom rom? If these apply then it should be as easy as replacing the bootanimation.zip file of your choice in the "system/media" folder.

Correct me if I'm wrong (anyone) but I think as of now there's no boot animations mods for ee03 (GB).

Sorry can't (don't know how to) post links using the xda app. Just look under the "themes and app" section and you'll see a few posts on boot animation. There's different types but the method is the same. Again it depends if your running a custom rom

Someone posted not to long ago that ee03 natively supported bootanimation.zips
if not then find nubecoders thread about tricking the stock system to run boot zips

I would be most interested in this. I'm unable to find any ICS boot animations in this section. Anyone know if it can be extracted straight from the GN and simply be placed in the boot animation directory without consequences?

You need a kernel/rom that supports bootanimation.zip
The stock/touchwiz based roms use a .qmg file for the animation instead.
Also the images in the bootanimation.zip would need to be modified for our resolution 400*800 as opposed to the 1280*720 of the Nexus.
The bootanimation.zip is already available for 400*800 devices & I can confirm it works beautifully on CM7

I'm running Darkside's kernel which supports custom boot animations so thats not a problem.
I assume thats what a CWM flash able zip flashes correct?
Sounds reasonable
Pardon me, but I was unable to find the thread containing the ICS boot animation, could you point me in the right direction?

Do not assume, no it is not a flashable .zip, you will need to manually insert to system/etc/media/
I usually rename the existing one to bootanimation.zip.bak just in case.....
Let me see if I can post it for ya !

Custom Boot Animation Problem

ok,
so i have followed all the tutorials on how to add a custom boot animation to the droid incredible. all atempts have failed and i have tried a variation of ways.
could this be that the custom rom i have wont allow it.
The custom rom i have right now is the Liberated v3.0 custom rom
and my kernal is 2.6.35.13
how come i cant load a custom boot animation.
the only other thing to try would be flashing the .zip file but i dont no if that will hurt the phone like all my data?
Could try rom toolbox.

Boot animations are named and stored in different places on different roms. Could be in /system/customize/resource, or /system/media, or somewhere else. If you have a file explorer like root explorer you can do a search for "bootanimation" and it should find the original lacation of the bootanimation and then just replace it with the one you want. Make sure the new one is named exactly like the original one, and that you set the correct permissioms, owner, and group.

Replace the /system/customize/resourve/VZW_bootanimation.zip. just rename the old one to VZW_bootanimation.zip.bak and then take the new bootanimation name it VZW_bootanimation.zip. also change permissions to the same as the old file, and change owner and group to root.

Well you should rename the original one in /system/customize/resource to VZW_bootanimation.zip.bak, and then copy your new bootanimation to the same directory and give it the same name VZW_bootanimation.zip and set the correct permissions.

That is actually pretty easy. They are PB31IMG.zip files flashed thru hboot. You just have to search for one you like thats compatible with the incredible. I believe there is a huge thread on them in the themes section.
Here is one of them http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753788 but its not the one i was thinking of, i will keep looking.

You dont flash it thru recovery you do it in hboot. When you enter hboot, (vol down +power while the phone is off) a white screen will pop up it should automaticly find the PB31IMG.zip and prompt you to press vol up to update. The PB31IMG.zip file has to be on the root of your sdcard meaning in no folders, and named exactly that caps and all.

[Q] Please help, trying to find an old app!

I was hoping to get some advice on how to find a certain app.
I'm running the Koodo SGH-T989D. It's rooted and still the stock ROM. What I'm looking for is called the Power Saving Widget. I believe it's standard on all the Touchwiz systems. It's translucent with a neon green coloring.
My problem is, I'm looking for an older version of the app. I have ICS 4.0.4. and the widget is two rows and not customizable. I've seen photos of the older version, and you can customize what toggles are in it (Wifi, GPS, bluetooth, etc..), as well as make it only one row.
I've searched the internet for the .apk but can't find it. Is it possible anyone could post the older version, or at least point me in the right direction. I've also attached a couple pics to show the difference between the two versions.
I appreciate the help.

Unfortunately I don't have the older rom. I just saw some pictures of app online, and through research found it was from an older version. Apparently it's from Gingerbread 2.3.3. Would there be any stock roms out there that I could flash and then extract? Gingerbread 2.3.3 is pretty old right? Does anyone know of a stock rom available out there?
Thanks again.

Ok, I just found version 2.3.5, and am now downloading it. So should I just darkside wipe and then flash using ODIN? Sorry for all the questions. I'm a noob who hardbricked his last S2, so I'm being a bit cautious. Thanks again.

the only way you do do it without root is use your computer . Download rom to computer or transferring from phone to computer then open zip find system/app right click on apk select copy and paste to downloads or somewhere on computer or back to your sd card. If rooted just use root explorer or rom toolbox open rom zip click copy save to sd card.

Need help in getting back Stock Boot animation on Tab S 8.4

I tried looking around but most guides/remedies seem to be for androids in general, kinda a noob at this so I apologize if this counts as spam.
I would be very thankful if someone could help me out with this recently after flashing ironrom I have this hideuous frog boot animation which replaces my stock one and I tried backing up my stock one and replacing it but when I replaced it, there was no change. I backed up before flashing the rom.
I checked in system/media there were a few boot-related files I think but I'm not sure, going into bin I found bootanimation but it didn't have the .zip extension.
Also, I can't seem to find the bootanimation.zip like most guides on replacing bootanimation tell you to do, some pointers would be helpful.
**Thanks in advance!**

Did that still black boot screen plus with the new shutdown animation (which was previously working) the resolution is halfed.
I'm thinking I should just reflash to stock since nothing is working but I'd really like to leave that as last resort as this seems like a really trivial problem which I'm just not handling correctly thus the many complications.

Something isn't making sense here, which Root File Explorer do you use?
You should just be able to copy all 3 qmg files from the previous Ironrom or any LP rom for your device and put them in that folder.
That should be it.

At the moment the files don't have any permissions at all.
They need to be set r-r-r-w.
Apart from that I see no reason for it not to work.

The ones in the screenshots have total access. I have tried limiting it to r-r-r-w with no luck difference.
Seems like the shutdown animation works though (it did before) but now the lower half is grey probably due to the different resolution size.

Then I'd back them up and try again.
One thing to note is that the t805 version of Ironrom doesn't have this frog boot animation.
