When the gingerbread update comes out, if I update to it will I lose root? I rooted using unrevoked3 then flashed unrevoked forever.

Just wait for a dev to cook a rom based on gingerbread.

As a rule of thumb never do OTA updates. You could potentially lose the ability to root forever.
Just check on here when the update cones around. The devs will most likely have a modded rom within the same day.

I doubt the Evo will get Gingerbread. I believe the phones will only get one major upgrade, thus Evo started with 2.1, then went to 2.2. I think we will see the Desire Sense come to the Evo though to get the phones on HTCSense.com. This is just my opinion. Sprint will come out with a replacement phone for the Evo which will come with Gingerbread and it will be almost the year mark for the Evo which is about the timeframe of phone life.

Who cares if Sprint puts out a Gingerbread update for EVO? Just flash a rom that does. They should be ready within about 2 weeks of the release. This stuff only encourages users to root.

Yeah, development may slow down, but the Evo still has more development than most other devices. Despite developers moving to the 3D, there will still be development, and unless the bootloader is now encrypted (I know it has always been locked, I've heard that it's encrypted but I've also heard otherwise) we'll definitely see root for the new update. It may take some time, but it'll come.
If you know anyone with an Evo that doesn't care about rooting and hasn't installed the update, trade with them. You can activate the phones on your individual accounts, keep your number, and root right away.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
So any yet find a way to permanently root 2.3.3 gingerbread? I used my upgrade eligibility and got my newphew an EVO 4G but came stock 2.3.3. I've tried using z4, tried downgrading to 2.2 by installing drivers and RUU image but getting error messages. I hope HTC unlocks bootloaders for EVO 4G as well!

I see the thread that says there is no root for Gingerbread but I've seen other posts that say there is an experimental beta for root.
Can someone enlighten me?
I have a buddy with a INC 2 and looking to root it, but it has Gingerbread already loaded.
There's currently no software root. The only option is the XTC clip.

Yup.. no root for people who updated to GB or got it preloaded. Stock isn't horrible though. I haven't had any real problems except wanting a couple more features like abit louder speaker or stronger vibrate options.
You can always get an XTC clip to S-Off. So no, it's not impossible. It's just not free

I may be wrong, but I don't believe gingerbread has a known exploit yet, for any phone. So even if you get s off, I am not sure it will help because root is a whole different thing.

Well, you are wrong. AlphaRev and Unrevoked have implemented a GB root exploit for both the HTC Sensation and the HTC Evo 3D in the latest Revolutionary solution.
In Twitter land there has been some success with other HTC devices, but the Dinc2 is proving to be troublesome.
Actually, I am rollin' a Moto Droid X2 and they just released a rooted GB update before my phone allows OTA update. Root it up!

Must be a new exploit. Last I checked the only root path for phones with gingerbread was a rollback to froyo.

You rooted it when it had froyo though. It is easy to flash a pre rooted rom, op is asking for a way to root an already installed gb.

Revolutionary uses the same temp-root exploit as it did with alpharevx, which means, that temp-root exploit is patched in GB. So revolutionary only works on froyo Inc2s.

Why is he wrong? He said there's no GB root for the INC 2 but was pointing out to kingsway8605 that there is such a thing as a GB root.
Gingerbreak, it's been out for a while. But since Verizon likes to patch to OTA's and cover that exploit (Just like they did with the Droid X) Yes, it's proving to be rather difficult.

I would dare say the EVO is legendary in its own right. It was the first 4G phone on Sprint, and was pretty revolutionary for its time and the first EVO in a line of good handsets to carry that name. The phone had a ton of development for it, and it still has support to this day. The biggest problem is the lack of driver support for both WiMax and the FFC, as I've already mentioned.

I am purchasing a new LCD and digitizer for my evo 4G (supersonic) since the screen got destroyed right before I bought my Evo 4G LTE (jewel). I wanted to see if there were any plans for a kitkat ROM for the evo 4G because I recently installed android 4.4.2 on my roomate's kindle fire and it runs amazing! I heard Google was trying to make kitkat run better on older devices. I think 4.4.2 could be great for the Evo 4G. I have high hopes that when I fix this phone someday there might be a 4.4.2 ROM available. I miss this device and the community that came along with it. Can't wait to get back into playing with this device again haha.

I am STILL rocking a Evo 4g but running 4.1.2 Rom (for the Google NOW experience) and love it. Just got a second one and playing around with some Sense Roms that will have everything working. Some (Jellybread 1.4 for example) are very well designed with a Holo look and feel.
I don't see why it should be too hard to 'skin' a Sense theme to bring you Kit Kat goodness!!!

Is there any new updates on the CM 11 kitkat Rom unofficial? I've been itching to try this out and see the improvement on the OG EVO. I really want to see if kitkat can really run smooth on a low spec device. I've had a few JB ROMs that ran decently smooth.. with over clock at least.
I was trying to build a recovery with SELinux enabled for this, but it was too large. I read that I could probably change the compression to make the kernel smaller, but never got around to doing it, as my newer devices took precedence. I don't even remember where I left off with it, to be honest .
