A Couple Quick MIUI Questions - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First where are the boot screens stored? I want to use the blue Helix boot screen rather than the MIUI screen.
Secondly what is MIUI considered? I want to use Incredikernel with the Incredikontrol app.

It is AOSP so it works with incredikernel. I haven't used it in a while, but under theme manager you can change the boot animation, all you do is put it somewhere on your SD card where you remember and import it through menu, import and then find where you put it. If not I think it's under data/local. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Guess that makes it GB since I just installed the absolute latest version.
And my last last question is where does the stock camera save the pictures?

There is a slight issue with the boot screen. I renamed the stock boot screen bootanimation.zip.bak and put the new one in its place. It was also called bootanimation.zip. Now there is no boot screen. It shows the splash screen and then a black screen for a few seconds and then its loaded. What did I do wrong?

You need to change the extension on the original from bootanimation.zip to bootanimation.bak, not bootanimation.zip.bak

In my experience the .bak is the extension once its renamed even if the .zip is there.
Regardless I figured it out. I had a zip inside a zip.

[Q] Removed Boot Sound - Permanently gone?

Soon after I rooted my phone on launch day, I manually disabled the boot sound (unfortunately, I don't remember which method). Now, regardless of which ROM I flash, I NEVER have a boot sound. Can someone help me out and let me know how I can about troubleshooting this further?
I've tried the obvious, by checking if the ROM I'm flashing has one (it does), and looking through Root Explorer to add a mp3 in various places, but nothing seems to work. Am I missing something very simple here?
you have to have a music file with the same name and format in the same location as in stock.
Same ROM's have different directory's for boot sound and animations. Check next two..
system/customize/resource (stock rom)
system/media (fresh & calkulin rom)
Edit: Btw I have try it, and does replace animation on Calkulin but still no sound... Which ROM are you using?

This may be my issue. I'm using CM7 (DESTROYED - link to forum below) so there is no system/customize directory. Can I just create it and put something in there? Does it need to be named specifically? android_boot.mp3???

See above - CM7 - Destroyed. I don't have an issue with the animations at all, just the boot sounds.
Stock file is called SPC_animation_final.mp3 but check witch someone who have same rom like you.

NO. You cant do that, must be specific (based on rom)
Tried to create system/customize/resource directory manually, copied the mp3 from system/media that came with the ROM and pasted into that new directory, renamed it android_audio.mp3 with no avail. Still no boot sound.
Tried renaming that to SPC_animation_final.mp3 and same result. Anything else I can try?

Will do - but realize this occurs regardless of which ROM I use. It's not ROM specific.
Thanks for the help all!
Try Fresh ROM, you should have sound saying "freshhh"
Sorry, I was thinking with Sense on my mind.

Really....wow. Was definitely not aware of that! I'll throw Fresh on there again tonight and see what I get. Maybe I've just had AOSP ROMS on there ever since. I thought I for sure tried out a few Sense, but maybe not.
Again - thanks to everyone. I didn't expect to get this much response. Really helps.

Yea, like they said, only sense roms have sound enable, no aosp, CM7 for example, support boot sounds.

It sounds like you just didnt zip it up correctly. The Bootanimation file has to be zipped with the "STORE" option.... as in NO compression.
try zipping it with the "store" option and copy/flash it over.
i will try that but i even just copied the images into the stock boot animation and didn't work also tried just couple images over the stock once and the when i ran it the stock once worked just not mine not sure if the images have to be in some kinda formate
Zipped it using STORE and the first folder works now thanks getting close just have to see whats going on in folder 2 thank for your help
i have it working for you. flashable zip.
looks cool even without 3d

anyone try CM10 Boot Animation yet?

so i gave this a shot, i used the 720 vertical bootanimation. it lets the phone boot but the whole rom has gone black. i cant see anything but the phone still works.
here is a link to the download thread

I had the exact same thing happen. Used adb to delete the file and everything works again. I got mine from a link from Android Police, and in the desc.txt, it says it's 720x720.. might have something to do with it, but I'm not sure. I'll try changing the numbers around and report back.
*Update
Tried changing the resolution to 720 x 1280 and the same thing happens. Putting it in /data/loca/ or /system/media gives the same result.
It's the same one as cyanogen9?? Or did they make a new one for 10?

A new one was just released for CM10. A nice change I think.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogp9f4_yEoU&feature=player_embedded
I see that the bootanimation from the AT&T nightly is still the CM9 version.
The file from the experimental for the International GS3 has the right graphics.
That works nicely for me
Course I'm on the International GS3 but only CM9.
It's because whoever created the bootanimation.zip file used an actual compressed .zip file instead of just using the extension as a wrapper.
Below is a fixed version that actually has the correct black for the background so that it doesn't look like a hackjob on AMOLED screens.

LoL. Same thing happened to me this morning. The phone booted up but screen stayed black no matter what. I did a battery pull, booted into CWM and restored my nandroid. Then I made a request thread in the apps/themes forum and zmore hooked me up with a CWM flashable zip of that animation and it works like a charm. Here ya go.

Yeah, you can do this. I use the Google Edition HTC One boot animation. Just Google it and you can find the file. Simply rename it bootanimation.zip and place it in /system/media. Make sure you replace the bootanimation.zip currently in there to something else such as bootanimation.bak. You might have to change permissions to rw-r-r as well.
my /system/media doesn't have an existing bootanimation.zip. Nevertheless I placed that file in that location, set permissions and the stock Verizon animation still showed. Now I'm stumped. Pulled the file from HERE, trying both a manual addition as well as flashing the flashable zip provided.

Are you running a Sense rom? If so, the boot animations are located in System-Customize-Resource. There are two that you need to replace, one for booting up, vzw_bootup.zip, and one for shutting down, hTC_downamination.zip.

Hmm... I did this and for some reason the boot animation wasn't replaced but the down animation works fine. Side note, does the boot sound in that folder play for anyone else?
HTC One s-off
On the stock HTC ROM, to change the boot animation, you have to change two files in 'system/customize/resource/' : "htc_bootup_one.zip" and "vzw_bootup.zip" (capitalization matters). They both have to be replaced with fully functional boot animations. When I changed mine, it wouldn't work if I just changed one or the other, I had to change both.
On the stock HTC ROM, to change your down animation, you have to replace "hTC_downanimation.zip" (capitalization matters) in '/system/customize/resource/' with a functioning down animation.
On custom ROMS, you have to look to find where it's at. Sometimes it's in 'system/media' named "bootanimation.zip", sometimes it's not. Remember, it has to be a functioning replacement, otherwise it will show the stock ANDROID boot animation.

Actually, you don't have to replace the htc_bootup_one.zip. You can rename it to .bak and replace or do the same to the vzw_bootup.zip and it will work. I actually removed my htc_bootup_one.zip and replaced the vzw one and everything works fine. Probably helps that the boot up animation I use was made for the One variants that don't have anything to do with Verizon

That's very odd. Now that I try it without the "htc_bootup_one.zip", it works, but it didn't when I originally replaced it. Very, very odd.
I grabbed a flashable boot animation (including audio) from the HTC One section and was finally able to get the animation to work after messing with the .xml file. Tried to throw the audio in with it and couldn't get it to work...I'm on Bonestock and noticed there wasn't any audio with the regular boot animation...could it be the Rom? Volume is up btw.
To get a better idea of what I did I'll include the tread. I wasn't able to flash, so I had to manually replace/rename the files in my system/customize/resource folder and then change the name for the boot animation in the .xml file. I tried to follow the steps to get the audio file included as well, but it just reverted to a basic android boot animation when I attempted that.

If I recall correctly, there is an option in the XML file that tells it not to play audio when it's not the first time you set up the phone, meaning it only plays on initial setup. You need to change that setting to play every time. I don't want audio on my boot animations, so I leave it alone.

Add this code to the XML file.
Code:
audio="/system/customize/resource/MP3_file_name_here.mp3"
This is assuming the sound you want is located in the 'resource' folder. If not, give the correct path and filename. Hope this works for you.

I had tried that like it said in the OP, but for some reason when I added that in there it changed the boot animation completely and still with no audio. Ah well, it's probably more convenient with out it.

Trying to create a boot animation for CM11

I've been trying to create a boot animation for CM11 using the attached file, but it's not working no matter what I try. Anyone have any ideas?
I've put the file in both data/local and system/media and neither is working.
Running CM 11 M8 on an i747.
Also, I am aware that the image quality is low. I'm just trying things out for now. Thanks!

Try this... at 30fps with only 20 images and 2 cycles it would've lasted a whole 1.33 seconds... I slowed it to 10fps and loop till boot is complete.. Don't forget to set permissions to rw-r--r-- as well
Still no luck. I have my entire system rw in es file Explorer. The zip over wrote the one I had in there. Still didn't work. Just getting the generic android name glimmering thing.

Groovy. Thanks again for all your help!
One last question, if you don't mind. I recreated the whole thing so that it'd be the resolution of the phone. The only thing I changed was the pixel dimensions in your txt file. Now, however, the boot up is just a blank screen. Any chance you may know what's wrong with the attached one? Is 1.83mb to big for a boot animation?
You zipped the whole folder... As in when I open the zip there is a folder called bootanimation... The part0 folder and the desc.txt should be at the root of the zip

What's weird is when I use the bootbox app to view it, it loads perfectly. Just doesn't load when I boot the phone.

Idk.. I re-edited the desc.txt in an app that I know works without jacking up the encoding (droidedit free) and zipped it up with an app that I know works (rar for android)... I had the same issues the other day trying to zip one up with ES file Explorer, rom toolbox, and 7zipper, all with compression set to 'store only' ... Only rar for android would work
