Cwm red tutorial for ec07 clean
i love it. thanks again logan302 and adrynalyne
TUTORIAL CWM RED FLASHING!!!
im not a total noob anymore (at least i think), but i have yet to soft brick/brick my phone. mostly due to support of everyone here and plenty of patience. here is the steps i took in flashing this rom and it working great for me.
first off i was running off joskoss ec07 beta1. with no clock mod from trailblazer101. now im not saying u gotta do that but just to let you know what i did. (thank you logan302 for helping me)
what you need:
make sure your drivers are installed
odin (re-partition unchecked)
ec07.tar(modem+kernal)(adrynalynne)
samsung.pit here(thanks logan302)
ec07clean.zip here (adrynalynne)
cwm red here(update.zip)
put files where they go,
ec07.tar and .pit are on pc
ec07clean.zip and update.zip (red) are on root of sdcard
now in odin:
make sure re-partiotion is unchecked. (usually isnt but for some reason my 1.85 was)
1. load pit in pit.
ec07.tar in pda not phone
2. before you press start, shutdown phone, pull battery and go into download mode (hold vol- and plug in usb). u should see a yellow yield triangle (right?)
3. press start on odin, it will flash modem and check pit, turns blue (reset) and shuts down phone. unplug usb and put battery back in and boot into recovery (hold vol+/- and power)
4. in stock recovery 2e load update.zip pressing menu soft key when highlighted update.zip
5. should be in cwm red (its not a legend anymore) wipe cache partition from main menu and dalvik cache in advanced menu (vol+/- to highlight, pwr to select, softket back to go back)
6. now with that said and done go back to main menu in cwm, and select instal zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > ec07clean.zip
7. once flashed reboot from main menu. it will lag on verizion like always. u should have all your same personal info etc.
from there i connected usb and put on reboot options mod and glass asop lockscreen mods here on sd card to flash next
i also installed root tools for the reboot into recover to flash reboot mods (ironic)
use titanium backup to take out what u dont want, and root tools or liberty tools to tweak to your liking.
enjoy hopefully this helps. let me know how yall did.
Can we get some additional info on the ROM? Debinged, what bloatware was removed, etc?
Sent from my Continuum on stock Froyo 2.2.2.
debinged it is... twlauncher intact... nuff said.
use titanium back up to debloat what u want, and root tools/liberty tool to customize
what is the speed and stability like on this one vs. stock?
I've installed this just now. Used it for a few minutes. Bing is still the search engine within the browser, but the search button goes to Google. Long pressing the search button doesn't do anything.
It is hard to tell what has been removed.
The only apps I think that are removed are the VCast apps.
Very stable rom. Very close to stock it seems.
I just checked the browser settings. There is an option to set Google as the search engine but it doesn't take effect. Bing remains the search engine despite choosing Google

That's strange. I installed this clean rom over Josh's beta 2. I wiped data and cache.
Would love to have the long press search working again.
How about when you search from the address bar of your browser?

luv, ciscogee

ec07.tar(modem+kernal)(adrynalynne)
samsung.pit here(thanks logan302)
ec07clean.zip here (adrynalynne)
cwm red here(update.zip)
OK. 2 questions. (apparently I do need someone to hold my hand. So much for sarcasm).
1. Which version is cwm red? I'm using adrynalyne's test 4 (2.5 cyan)
2. PIT? I didn't use that one for pastorbennet's rom. done a few searches and I can find people recommending one PIT file over another, but not what it is and what it does. Anyone willing to educate?
nevermind... my dumb hind end searched everywhere but xda before I asked what a PIT was... feel free to laugh at the idgit.

1.red is 2.5 red. needs to be used to flash this rom. u can skip the step of flashing test4 with odin cause when you flash radio+kernal (eco7.tar) and pit with battery out. when that passes unplug usb and put in battery and manually boot into recovery, (making sure you boot RED update.zip)
2.im not sure what pit is either. just know that it was givin to me in good faith and i flashed with it, i was told you can probably not include it but it didnt hurt
pit: now that you know what it is can u educate us?
This isn't going to be the education you are asking for, but I flashed this ROM before all those steps were posted.
I only used the two files in the OP....I used ODIN to flash the .tar file, then I used ODIN to flash the CYAN Recovery.....and I installed the EC07 Clean.zip file from recovery...wiped data and cache and it seems to work fine.
However, after reading testimony from ciscogee, I have not been able to get my search button to work with a long press....even after going back to Josh's beta 1.
I have no idea what the .pit file actually contributes to this whole process but that might be why he gets long press and I don't.
Though I think it more likely has to do with one of the mods he installed before or after the fact.
So, ciscogee, do you know critical the .pit step is that I never did?
2.im not sure what pit is either. just know that it was givin to me in good faith and i flashed with it, i was told you can probably not include it but it didnt hurt
From what I've read so far, PIT stands for Partition Information Table, and tells ODIN where to put what (IE radio in one partition, data in the data partition, and system files in the system partition.) Otherwise, it dumps it all into the phone and lets android sort it out... Basically a safeguard to make sure nothing gets crossed up and corrupted... But, I'm still watching.

there is the most informative thread I've found so far.

Strange, I pretty much did the same thing and the long press works perfectly. In fact, not only do I get voice search as an option, I also get the option for QR Droid and Handcent Quick Compose (apps I have installed). When thing I did differently is I didn't Odin the tar file. I just flashed the clean zip from cyan 2.5. I haven't noticed any problems yet, but I will be on the lookout.
Peace
Man I'm jealous. The handcent quick compose is actually the feature I normally use that long press for.
Did you install any Trailblazer mods?
Sent from my SCH-I400 using XDA App
If you didn't odin the. Tar file, what radio and kernel are you using? Also, o: an unrelated note, last time I tried handcent, i had major issues with not receiving mms. Is that fixed?

read flash firmware using odin. i recommend one of the jmX firmwares. the newest of them being WXJM7
thanks a lot for the help, i will never forget you. i was scared of losing the warranty and not solving this issue. if i am right, the method will work because i didnt know that you can make an entrance to the system. i checked the download mode and it works, i am now stuck with my pc until i repair it and on the firmware. 2 questions: 1. if the drivers of the sgs are installed, do i need to remove kies and reinstall it or something like that? and 2. if i did the factory reset, was the internal sd card formatted? thanks a lot again.

1)Hi there. There is no need to uninstall/reinstall kies, in fact u do not have to open it to be able to use odin. You can view this video tutorial first part and second part for illustration purposes. If you are unable to connect to odin you can open kies and reinstall your drivers with it.
2) As far as I know when you do a factory reset only your system reserved partition of your internal sdcard is formatted. The rest of your data in /SDCARD will remain untouched.
Senior members pls correct me if I'm wrong.

theoretically you WILL loose your warranty when you use odin to flash a firmware, in reality the will never find out as long as you don't brick it during flashing...if you want to be 100% on the save side (regarding the warranty) you can also flash the original firmware (JF3 for me) back. personally i would not worry about that ...

as i wrote above i recommend a JMX one (JM6 or JM7) as they are really stable. i use JPC (android 2.2) which works well for me but there are people reporting serious problems like locked phones and overwritten IMEI's. therefore i wouldn't recommend this for unexperienced people...
i don't want to worry you but there are people who managed to brick their phones with odin. it's very very unlikely if you follow the instructions precisely. just that you know ... read the howto's carefully before proceeding!

i agree but desperate people don't care about forum-rules which is why we have so many threads like this in the dev section. i guess the only way to solve this would be if an admin/mod would manually move them
i will consider this and i understand that it has some risk, but i think this is my only chance. also, i hope the 0.05 percent chance of a major electricity fail will not ruine my phone. for clarifying: is this reflash like the windows reinstalation with different update packs? if the process will be done completely, is there a chance for the black screen will be still there? i am a little nervous, not scared as the first time, but if the process dont work, is there any chance to repair it through samsung with some costs?

Hey there buddy.
I can see that you are really concerned about messing things up. But really, don't worry. It has some down falls, but flashing with Odin is might safe. And as was earlier recommended, you can try flashing to either JM6 or JM7. Both are very stable releases. Here are a couple of links, one for the JM6 and the other for JM7. Trust me when I say this, IT WILL BE ALL RIGHT.....
JM6: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765032
JM7: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770821
This is another link to a brilliant post by Darkstriker. This is a well thought of FAQ's. It will guide you properly. Follow instructions to the letter and you will be all right.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596
It would also be a good idea to do a factory data reset after you are done flashing.
Take the plunge buddy. Be cool.....
Cheers....
Whoops.... Almost forgot. This is a link provided by Darkstriker in his FAQ. This is a faster website to download from. Let me give you direct links to the JM6 and the JM7 and the Odin and PIT files.
JM6
JM7
Odin And PIT File: https://www.wuala.com/Samsung Galax...Odin & Bootloader(.PIT)/Old/?key=AfzUZSU4SpKU
You will need both the files listed on the linked page (Odin and PIT File)
Plus you will also need the CSC files. Choose the correct one from the link below after finding the relevant info from the JM6 and JM7 links. If still in doubt, ask away.
CSC: https://www.wuala.com/Samsung Galax...C fo XWJM6, XFJM6 and XWJM7/?key=AfzUZSU4SpKU

No problem. Will try and walk you through this.
After you have downloaded either of the JM6 or the JM7, and you have extracted the files, you will see the PDA and the modem files. You will also have to download the relevant CSC file that is specific to your region. Also, make sure that Odin and the PIT files have been downloaded.
Let me give you simple steps to work your way through.
1. Make sure Samsung Kies is NOT RUNNING including in the notification area.
2. Disconnect your phone and switch it off.
3. Start Odin
4. Make sure the three options, "Re-Partition", "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" are TICKED
5. Click on the "PIT" button and select the "s1_odin_20100512" file you downloaded.
6. Put your phone into download mode by using the key combination: POWER DOWN + HOME KEY + POWER KEY. When you see the yellow triangle, release all buttons.
7. Connect your phone and wait for the drivers to get installed.
8. Click on the "Start" button and wait for the process to finish. This will be indicated by the words "PASS" with a green background. DO NOT DISCONNECT THE PHONE TILL YOU SEE THE WORDS "PASS"
9. Remove the battery and put the phone into download mode again. (Step 6)
10. In Odin, click the "Reset" button and UNCHECK the "Re-Partition" option and keep the remaining two options CHECKED.
11. Click the "PDA" button and select the file starting with "CODE"
12. Click the "PHONE" button and select the file starting with "MODEM"
13. Click the "CSC" button and select the CSC file which you have chosen. (NOTE: You will have to extract the file from the CSC package you have downloaded and not the actual archive)
14. Connect the phone
15. Click on the "START" button and wait till Odin finishes its process. Again, DO NOT DISCONNECT THE PHONE TILL ODIN DISPLAYS THE "PASS" MESSAGE!!!!
16. If you are using Multi CSC, follow the instructions from any of the posts for JM6 and JM7: "When using *Multi CSC* you need to type *#272*????# after the flash (in dialer). ???? being the current time displayed by phone. For example if the time is currently 6.25pm you need to type *#272*0625#. Then select the desired CSC version from the list and press "Install"."
You should be fine once these steps are done. They might seem very difficult at first glance, but they really aren't. If you still feel concerned about the process, I would suggest reading the entire post again just to familiarize yourself with the process. I was trembling the first time I did this and it turned out perfectly all right in the end. I am sure it will be the same for you.
Cheers....

Hello again community. I am writing now from my SGS. Wonder how? (I did not the reflash) I don't know, the phone just booted up this morning. I have no idea how but now I will try to not reboot my phone. I think the logo is broken and the factory reset worked.
I still have the MCR app, but the Quadrant scores around 870, so I am no longer rooted.
Thanks all, I surely will need your help sometime... I consider the rooting now not so scary because I understanded that I can not break my phone completely. I will update to Froyo when it will be official and I hope the problem is not any longer in my phone.
Cheers!
Edit: I found a folder in the internal sdcard named ase that has 2 subfolders. In «resources» folder there are 2 files: playlogos1 which is 0 kilos large and userinit.sh, also with 0 kilos. If I am right this is the reason which stopped my phone to boot. What to do with them?

Relax bro.. You'll live longer
So I am finally in front of my PC, but I don't know if when I will reboot my phone it will work. I have the superuser/MCR and the scripts still in my phone and I don't know what to do. I don't really understand why the playlogo1 and userinit.sh files have 0 kB and they are on my sdcard. I think they have something to do with this. That's why I am afraid of rebooting it... but sometime I will need it and I hope I will not have the problem. Also, if I will reflash my phone with JM6 or JM7, which lag fix do you recommend for me? (The phone sometimes really annoys me)
Thanks in advance...!
3/3/2011 - I've been away for several weeks, sorry about that. I've also moved on and will be futzing with my shiny new Xoom. I will not be working on Tab projects for the immediate future, it at all.
Been fun
There seems to be a genuine lack of activity on the Sprint version of the Tab. Hopefully this will allow folks to start making themes and ROM's for the Sprint flavor of the tablet.
This package was created via the "Rotobackup" Method pioneered by Rotohammer and maniac3389.
As far as I can tell, I'm the only one who has done this on the Sprint-flavor of the Tab, so this is all beta and VERY RISKY. I do not recommend using this unless you are VERY familiar with flashing Android devices.
NOTE: This is ALMOST STOCK. The Rotobackup process did not dump the modem.bin file properly. To address this, I used the modem from the Epic 4G (SPH-D700-DK28-8Gb-REL). This modem effectively disables GPS. There is no known fix yet.
Updates:
12/13/2010 - Looks like the package borks GPS. You cannot acquire satellites after flashing.
12/29/2010 - GPS is still broke if you use the package containing the modem. Looks like we will need to wait until an update is released. Feel free to keep troubleshooting the issue, I'll update the OP if somebody figures it out.
12/29/2010 - Uploaded package WITHOUT the modem
12/29/2010 - Introduced Zypher, a fully deodexed updater.
WARNING!!! YOU CAN BRICK YOUR DEVICE VERY EASILY.
THESE ARE FOR SPRINT VERSIONS OF THE TAB.
Instructions:
Backup your settings with Titanium Backup
Do a factory reset: Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset
Turn on USB debugging: Settings>Applications>Development>USB debugging
Extract the RAR archive
Open "Odin3 v1.31.exe"
Reboot into Download Mode (adb reboot download)
Do not check Re-Partition option
Click PIT, select pit.pit
Click PDA, Select .tar file
Click Start
Downloads
Download 1 - Stock, no modem - Sprint Only! Use this if you want to get back to stock (rooted). ALL USERS SHOULD TRY THIS PACKAGE FIRST! If you still have problems, then you need to use the modem package which kills GPS (Download 2).
Download 2 - Stock, with modem - Sprint Only! Includes modem from Epic 4G - Only use if your Tab will not boot, this package will kill GPS
THERE IS NO WAY TO GET THE STOCK MODEM BACK AFTER YOU FLASH!!
Download Zypher v1 - Sprint Only! Deodexed\zipaligned. I recommend running a factory reset before applying the package. Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset
Zypher Details:
Based off DJ30
Deodexed and zip aligned
Removed startup/shutdown sounds
Added Busybox installer
Added Titanium Backup
Added Z4Root
Added AD-Free hosts file
To do list:
Work in the full screen fix (via Spareparts)
Replace launcher with LauncherPro
Theme everything
Nice work, not that Sprint would allow it, but did this enable dialer functions since it is using an alternate modem file?
Awesome, thanks!
Now who's got a busted Tab to try this on!
Not sure if this is any help, but here's a system dump someone posted....
http://forum.androidcentral.com/galaxy-tab/44323-us-galaxy-tab-sprint-system-dump.html
Dunno. There is no dialer installed and it gives the standard engrish statement "Cannot make or take a call using Galaxy Tab"
I did some comparisons between the sprint tab and the epic, and the modems are identical. I just flashed this and it worked flawlessly.
Thanks again man I appreciate it. You have ressurected my tab.
Wow, maybe I can finally root

Excellent, glad it worked for you.
Nevermind.
I am going to try this now... I had terminal emulator crash on me and it messed up the filesystem or something. My Sprint Galaxy Tablet just says "Samsung" and glows after the intro animation.
I did manage to get the tablet into downloading mode by:
1) turning tablet off
2) holding Volume UP key and power key at the same time until it turns on
and I get little android man with a shovel that says "Downloading... Do not turn off Target!!!"
wish me luck
Why dont you just wipe it and see if that works first?

how would I do that? It won't actually boot up.. Just shows the samsung into screen and says on a screen that has samsung glowing. It will blink after a while and vibrate, then go back to glowing at me.
HOLY CRAP that worked!!!!! I was just about to give up! Notice the many hours between my last post and now.. (6:50am now LOL)
I had to do some other things not outlined in this thread to get my computer to see the Galaxy Tablet in the Device Manager. Basically I tried these things, (try them all if you have trouble, I'm not sure what or which actually worked):
tried to wipe from boot up (turn off, hold volume up and power until it turns on and release buttons)
that didn't work
install Kies and Samsung(android) SDK and JDK (java developer kit)
that didn't seem to work
install Samsung PC Studio 7
ah hah! I see you there in the device manager now!
power tablet off and get to download menu (hold volume down and power until you see the android holding a shovel at the download menu)
Load up Odin, YAY It connects and detects the COM!!
Select the PIT and TAR, start, it downloads and reboots and tab loaded right up!!
Best of all I think it also got rid of the Sprint Activation nag notice screen. It hasn't popped up yet and it has been a good 10 min or so! That would be a nice bonus
You saved me so much time and $$ thanks a TON!!
((side note, Odin loads up and displays GT-1000 not my SPH-P100... I edited my odin.ini to reflect the correct model. not a big deal at all, but I was getting confused at first as to why Odin was saying wrong model, thinking it was doing a detection when it was really just blindly echoing info from the ini file))
Good stuff.
You'd think Sprint would want to leak the firmware to keep people from exchanging/RMA'ing devices. One thing is certain with Android, people will hack the hell out of it.
My bad on the label. The top title in Odin is just that, a title. It doesn't doesn't affect the reload process at all. I'd change it, but uploading another 200MB file isn't on my list of activities today

THANK YOU!
Same thing happened to me this morning as ManaKill described...I had terminal emulator crash on me and it messed up the filesystem or something. My Sprint Galaxy Tablet endlessly glowed "Samsung" after the intro animation - thought I was DONE. Tried wiping but no go. I followed ZoinksS2K directions and it worked flawlessly just as infamousjax described. Thank you!!! No telling how many Tabs have been ressurected thanks to this post.
Have you guys been able to get a gps lock since doing this? I can't get one worth ****.
Congratulations & ty...a step in the right direction.i will help once I can make a proper nandroid.

We received our Samsung Galaxy II phones a few days ago.
My wife had a Swiftkey and Swiftkey X keyboard apps in her Amazon appstore account. She installed Swiftkey X, and she was presented with an "update" that showed Swiftkey (not the X; apparently this is an issue with Amazon appstore based on Swiftkey site). Thinking that it was an update to the Swiftkey X, she apparently applied it, and immediately there were number of FC notices (she remembers seeing TWLauncher among them) and a spontaneous reboot of the phone. Then, she couldn't get online either through WiFi or 4G. At that point she gave the phone to me to fix it
Comparing her phone side by side with mine it is very clear that there's an issue with network connectivity. While mine flies through the pages, market downloads, etc. either on WiFi or 4G, hers get stock for 3-5 seconds before opening pages or sometimes just displays a "webpage cannot be found" or "connection error".
I went ahead and did a factory restore, but that seems to only delete user account, personal files, etc. if I understand it correctly. Moreover, the issue is still there after the restore. So, is there a way to restore the system files to stock as well? Can it be done without rooting, or does it require loading a fresh ROM?
Sorry for the lengthy message and thanks in advance!

Everything goes back to stock.
You need to either:
1. Root
2. Install CWM through ROM Manager
3. Flash this
Or:
1. ODIN flash CWM
2. Flash this

Thanks again for the replies. So, I'm going to have to root it and put a stock image back I gues... I was hoping that SII had a fail safe similar to Nook Color where you can easily go back to stock if something was not right.

Alright, I'm halfway through. The rooting process for the SII is little different than NC, but the principles are the same.
By the way, is it safe to assume that some conflict between SwiftKey and SwiftKey X caused the problem on her phone? The reason I ask is because I'd like to put SwiftKey X on my SII (it has multi-language support) and I dont want to deal with the same issue if it was the culprit.
I believe I did enough reading at this point
Since this doesn't involve rooting (now I understand it), I'd like to get an "OK" from the guru before proceeding with the following "as newbie as it gets" steps:
1. Install Odin (v1.85)
2. Install Kies for the recent GSII drivers
3. Make sure Windows recognizes the phone in ODIN (seeing <ID:0/004> Added!! in the message box)
4. Turn off the phone
5. Turn on the phone by holding both the Vol-up and Vol-down buttons and plug the USB cable in while still holding both buttons
6. Select volume up button to proceed to download mode
7. Start Odin
8. Check the PDA button in Odin and browse to “T989UVKID_HOME_SGH-T989user_CL594724_REV00.tar.md5” file
9. Click Start in Odin and let it flash
10. Once it completes and reboots…..
Is that it? At Step 10, it should boot into a 100% T-Mo stock, right? Just to be sure, I’ll perform a factory reset after that point and start all over with the user files, apps, etc.
Thanks in advance!
Sounds good. But if you look in the stickied threads top of this forum the drivers for our phone are posted. No need to install kies but that does work also

The "factory reset" you used IS the fail safe. The parts that "factory reset" doesn't remove is the part that won't be messed up unless you are rooted. So I don't even know how you touched /system etc without rooting...

Just finished flashing the stock image and everything worked as expected. This was also a good practice to learn how to restore it to stock in case something goes bad.

The issue was created after installing a 3rd party keyboard and -by accident- applying an update that was supposed to be for a slightly different version, which resulted in numerous force closes and random reboots immediately. I might be wrong here, but that indicates that more than just the user files were affected, since deleting just user files via factory reset didn't help the network problem. However, flashing the stock image -without rooting- took care of the problem.
I want to install the Blazer ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363071), but I'm new to rooting and flashing ROMs onto my device as this is my first Android device ever.
I was watching qbking77's video on installing the Blazer ROM, and he said that I needed CWM 5.0.2.7, but I believe he also said somewhere in the comments on some of his other videos that Rouge doesn't work as well as the (normal?) CWM 5.0.2.7? Is this true? Because I followed Zedomax's tutorial to root and install CWM and he uses Rogue, so I was wondering if this would mess with my phone at all.
Also, I heard that using the stock EL29 rom is usually unstable when installing ICS ROMs and that I should flash EL26 if I plan on using any ICS ROMs. Would it also be bad to try flashing the Blazer ROM without flashing an EL26 ROM and/or regular CWM or can I just go ahead and flash Blazer with my stock rooted EL29 E4GT with Rogue CWM 5.0.2.7?
Long story short: Can I just flash the Blazer ROM from stock EL29 Rooted with Rogue CWM 5.0.2.7 or do I need/should to do other things before attempting to flash this ROM? I've heard bad things about Rogue CWM and EL29 vs EL26 and regular CWM.
Thanks.
CWM won't be too picky, I have used standard cwm attached below and have not had problems with any flash so far, except CM9 {alot of people do, you will learn that}, anyway, follow OP install instructions and you will be fine, make sure to grab Calk's Format script in the OP. You should be on your new home screen in no time at all. If you get any FC's at first, try going back to CWM and Fix Permissions, Reboot and should be good.

So I shouldn't need to do anything other than get standard CWM (aside from the OP's instructions, of course)? Also, how can I go about getting standard CWM and getting rid of Rogue?
And what is an "FC?" Sorry, I don't know all the terminology yet, but I read and watch a lot of videos daily about all of this stuff to try and learn as much as possible. His instructions just seem very vague for people that are new to rooting and installing custom ROMs.

Correct, download the file I attached, it has EL26, its rooted and the CWM is present - Make sure you do this with Odin 1.85, put it in the PDA position and uncheck the AUTO RE-BOOT option. You will then have to wait for it to Pass, but should only be a few seconds, unplug, pull bat and reboot holding Volume+ and Power.
FC= Force Close
They seem vague at first, but mainly due to alot of jargon your not familiar with yet.
Anyway, I hoped I helped you, if I did hit the thanks button.

Okay, and where can I find Odin 1.85? Or can I just use the exact same Odin program that I rooted with (using Zedomax's root method on SPH-D710 to root to stock EL29)?
And, let me see if I'm understanding this all correctly (please be patient with me ):
1. I run Odin 1.85
2. click PDA (I'm assuming is an option/button in Odin), and uncheck Auto-boot
3. select the EL26 file you included and click start(?)
4. wait for it to pass, then unplug the phone (should still be turned on at this point?)
5. pull bat (I assume you mean select the file for EL26 included in e4gtauto.zip Zedomax provided?)
6. reboot by going into CWM and selecting reboot.
Correct?
And I shouldn't have to do anything to delete Rogue CWM? Just these above steps?

I am not sure where the 1.85 odin file is on XDA, but I have attached, below, still learning my way around here too.
SS= Screen Shot - See attached.
your steps are good, except I meant pull battery, not really necessary, but I usually forget to move my files to my sd card, so I end up pulling it anyway.
Once you get the PASS in odin, you will then hold in power for 8 seconds and hold Volume+ button at the same time {or pull battery and do same}.
That will put you into CWM, then go to install zip from SD > Choose Zip File from External SD, grab your Calkulin file, run it, then go back and run the ROM file and Reboot!
You should be good to go from there.

Sorry I'm so bad at this, but I really do appreciate you being so patient with me. You're pretty much one of the only people that has actually attempted to help me with a question I've had.
One last question: I don't need to do anything to remove Rogue CWM before following your steps, do I? I didn't want to try anything until I was sure about this because I'm incredibly scared of bricking my phone as this is my first time ever doing anything like this.
Thank you so much for your help so far, though. I've thanked all of your posts along the way, and I really do appreciate it.

Correct, once you flash the el26 file from above, Rogue will be gone, you will reboot to recovery, flash Calkulin, flash ROM, reboot, rejoice!
Not a problem, I understand how it can be frustrating, still waiting on an answer to my question I posted to the XDA.
Good luck and remember google is your friend too! Just search XDA and then what your looking for and you will likely get an answer somehow.

Haha, I bet. I'm already loving this ROM, the theming is really minimalistic, everything is stable, and I can just install Apex Launcher if I want the stock ICS experience. I'm here at my parents house for summer break, and I live in Florida for college. I don't really have access to a windows PC there since I have a Macbook Pro (courtesy of Full Sail University), and I didn't really want to deal with all the bs you have to go through on a mac to root the phone and stuff so I just waited for summer break, so getting your help this early in my break was amazing because this means I can try out other ROMs now that I know what to do if I feel so.
I'll be using your tutorial for the rest of my family's phones as well since they all got incredibly interested when I told them I could update the phone for them before Sprint did, haha. Plus, my mom loves the idea of the Wifi tethering for free, so she was pretty much sold the second I said that.
Thanks again! I already love Android 100x more than iOS (I'm coming from an iPhone) because of the ability to customize literally anything about the OS.
You are most definitely welcome, I would be more than happy to help in the future too, but do try Nova Launcher, its quite slick, easy to customize and I haven't seen a bit of lag out of it period.
Im posted up in my basement working, while the wife and kids sleep anyways.

I'm using Apex right at the moment, but I've heard great reviews about Nova. I'll definitely try it out tomorrow when I get some time, and I have to set up the wifi network on this phone. We live a little outside the city here and the 3G/4G speeds get pretty awful in certain spots for them. Back in Orlando for myself, however, they're really fast.
But yeah, I'll definitely check out Nova. Maybe I can still refund Apex. XD

Once you get him rooted follow the OP for Blazer Rom and flip back and forth through here if you have questions. Really, it's super-easy to install the backlight fix, and you don't even have to root or muck around all that much. You flash CWM in odin, which takes about 30 seconds, and then boot into CWM and flash a single zip file, which should take at most a minute including the reboot time. Tada, keyboard light is fixed.

That requires root access and messing with stock recovery right? Although it can be done quickly, it could mess up any future official ICS update...you know, an official build that has the backlight fix + other fixes. I'd rather not deal with unrooting, getting stock recovery back on, and still have a risk of a soft brick....all for a backlight fix. For my scenario ICS can wait or never be applied on the glide. My wife doesn't care .

I made a walkthrough for the entire leak here, but I'll snip it down and just assume you're running some form of ICS now that's completely stock:
bakageta said:
To fix the keyboard backlight bug, you'll need the following:
Odin 1.85
Clockworkmod Recovery
The Keyboard Backlight fix The one labeled LH2 is for the official, the one labeled CWM is for the leak. If you're not sure what you're on, go to About Phone, and check the Baseband Version, if it ends in LH2 you're on the official, if it ends in LG9 it's the leak.
Optionally, SuperUser 3.2 RC3 if you'd like root.
First, make sure you have Kies installed, so that you have the correct USB drivers. Download the 4.0.4 .exe file from here. Power off your phone, hold Volume Up and Power to turn it back on. Keep holding them until you get a screen warning you about custom software, and release, then press volume up again to enter download mode. Hook the phone up to your pc and run Odin 1.85. Uncheck "F. Reset Time" and make sure that the only box checked is Auto Reboot, you shouldn't need to change anything else. Click on the PDA button, and load the clockworkmod .md5 file you downloaded, then press the start button and wait for the device to reboot.
This time you'll reboot into recovery. Power the phone off, hold the volume down and power button to turn the phone one. Keep holding them until you see text about entering recovery in the top left, and release. Use the volume keys to navigate and power to select, and go to Install zip from sdcard. Select the keyboard backlight fix zip. Once that's finished, if you'd like to be rooted, repeat the process to flash a zip, and this time select Choose zip from sdcard, selecting the superuser zip you downloaded earlier. Select Yes, and wait for superuser to flash. If you plan on keeping Clockwork Mod Recovery, you should make a backup now. To do so, select Backup and restore, and backup. This will take a bit, just be patient. When you're finished, select reboot system now, and you should be set.
From here, if you rooted you can install something like Titanium Backup, which will use root access to let you remove the various AT&T bloatware.

Cool, thanks for the info. Good to know root is not required. I'll still hold off on the update but I'm sure others will apply ICS+backlight fix.
I updated last night, and I can report that after ending any call the phone app reports a hard stop rather than just going away, and that resets your cell connection. And I imagine the keyboard backlight will be fixed very soon. But did these issues exist on the leaked rom in its first release and then programmers modified to get them back?
