Has anyone had the good fortune of finding either a soft-touch metal battery door (like the one on the Droid 2) or a brushed metal battery door for the Atrix?

I've looked all over, no.
Probably wont find one because the way the battery cover is designed. It needs to be flexible to pull off. You risk bending the metal and borking your cover.
I voided my warranty and your mum.

man, bork you. i am not a gay chef.
hahaha.... "borking" aside, not only would you have to worry about potentially bending the metal on a metal battery cover, you'd also have to worry about breaking the small impressions in the bulk of the phone where the battery cover attaches itself. Unless it was a mostly plastic battery door with a metal insert... which could be neat... but dunno.
and plastic is better for phone reception anyways. metal phones are harder to design with metal casings. antenna should be in the top of phone and manufacturers do that a lot less these days.
It isn't actually metal, but this 2-pc case looks almost like mesh metal on the outside piece. I just got it, in white under with dark gray outside, and love it!

Is there a black with gray/darker color one like that? It looks really nice.

can anyone tell me if this case will work with the vibrant. if not, where can i find a kickstand case, other than the bodyglove brand.
Bodyglove has a cool case that has a kickstand. It's around 20-25
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
i have both the black mesh kickstand as well as the bodyglove. they both fit and work. the mesh kickstand may not be the top choice of some vibrant owners because it does not protect/cover the borders of the front glass/face of the vibrant as most cases do. i've had problems with the bodyglove case as it appears to be scratching the back case of my vibrant. i had the same exact issue on bodyglove case with kickstand on my hd2.
.
i let my sister have my bodyglove case. i actually didn't have a problem with the weaknesses of the black mesh case since the makers of it actually put some soft padding within the case to prevent scratches on the battery/back cover of the vibrant.

I think that seller was selling 3 diff colors; black, white, and pink(?). I bought the black one 3 wks ago and recieved it about a wk ago. Initially, I thought that it was going to be shiny hard plastic case but to my pleasant surprise, it wasn't. The exterior is covered in a thin layer of hard rubber, covering the black hard shiny plastic underneath, while the inside of it is slightly padded. It looks a lot better in person than in pics.
Is the kickstand serving its purpose? Hell yea, it is...it makes watching movies on my dope SAMOLED screen that much more awesome The hard rubber makes for a good grip so it won't easily slip out of your palms like it sometimes would w/out it and it gives the phone an overall slick/cool (IMO) look. The only downside so far is that I'm getting some very small worn out spots where the hard rubber has rubbed off but it's not a big deal though.
Pics or it didn't happen, you say? Well, check 'em out !

This looks pretty similar to something that I believe Otterbox will end up looking like. Personally, I think the flap over the camera is laughable but if you want true protection it comes with a price.
Picked one of these up. LOL! Why? I work in a very dirty environment that would subject my phone to a lot of fine particulates and water. Plus a 2-year old that loves to play with phones.
It is next to impossible for me to get the kickstand out with this case. I need long fingernails to reach the stand with this one.
Anyone else have one of these?
I have this case and i think it's great that you can add the extra protection when it's needed, and then just remove it when you don't.
Can the flap for the camera be permanently removed?

I just got mine in the mail about 2 days ago. i have no flap. i did also buy this from amazon. Maybe mine is older or new i don't no. i would post the link from where i bought it but im still a newb.

You could have to rip the rubber off the pivot piece for the camera cover. Then you could make it removable. It's the only option I know of.

that hole next to the camera, yea the bump on the flap is placed there to hold it back.
i had this case since i bought my TB but i got it from Best Buy n it was called Platinum. its a really good case. i would really recommend this
same I got the platinum series TB case from best buy. 34.99
its sleaker then the one posted though and looks better IMO.
The holes in the back for the cam and LED are 2 different accurate cut outs instead of one. looks better but it dies not have the flap/cover
Its the same case. The convert just has two extra layers and isn't rebranded.
Seeing there are several threads about people laying down black carbon fiber look vinyl on their phones, here's one done in silver. I got ripped off on eBay when I thought the listing was for genuine 3M Di-Noc, but the results turned out decent enough to share. Major problem with the cheap vinyl is that it stretches out way too easily and it melts at a lower temperature than the quality film.

Looks pretty sweet! Is that stuff adhesive, or do you have to use some sort of glue?
Yes, it is adhesive backed. Like I said I got the off brand stuff, the 3M branded Di-Noc works much better. There are numerous clips on youtube about the stuff and how to use it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mL0nOpvkTb4 <=== link to video showing install on a BMW steering wheel.

I've got black 3M textured Carbon, but I think the stuff would be way too thick to work on the backing. I'll try it though, have a ton left from my computer.
The 3M branded film works great on the back. You just have to trim it right at the edges of the cover instead of folding over the underside a bit. That pic turned out looking white? It is silver. They have 500! other colors. I dont know about the other 500 varieties but the carbon fiber look films are actually textured and have a good grip to them.
I went ahead and put the fiber on my backplate.... It looks awesome, but the lip is killing me....
Edit: The fiber was pretty thick, so an idea struck me. I stuck it on the back directly, instead of on the cover. Fits great, feels great. Might add another layer to get rid of some of the 'give' between components.
Ridges are a whole heck of a lot more visible in photos, but aren't they always?
Phone is an extra mm thinner, and a bit lighter too. In addition, the battery no longer falls out in those big drops

this is the case found on this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747091#
Okay so i just got the case today
My first impression was it looks pretty cool.
Inspecting the case more, i find the quality to be pretty good. It doesnt feel cheap, not at all.
The case is easy to put on, but hard to take off. What I'm saying is, it doesnt feel like the second piece of the case would fall out of it at all.
The first layer of the case is made of Silicone. The second is hard plastic with silicone top on it which gives it more grip on your hand and wouldnt slip when put on top of a table, etc.
The case feels solid and grippy. it has holes for the mic and noise cancellation mic. The case has a cover for the 3.5mm which is great but not for the micro usb(expected that anyways).
The volume and power button are easy to press and gives you a nice feedback. Its really great
There is only one problem that i came across with the case, though its not really a big deal.
The hole for the micro usb port is too small for the charger that came with the phone. But if you force it in, it should go in DEEP.
I have a spare cable like this one so everything is all good

For $6 this case is a total beast.
Quality is great and it looks pretty slick.
9/10
just got my other case today.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/330759812700?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
The case looks fantastic, though. Its hard to put on, like super hard. You have to force it to fit.
What i like about it is that it looks better than the the one similar to it. I like how the charging port is bigger as well.
Only problem i have with it is that fitting, its not easy and requires a lot of force to get it fitted.
Check out the pictures.

This.
I know a lot of people here like their rugged style cases. I love minimalism so it's a little too big for me, but this one just popped up and might interest some people. There are no reviews yet, so XDA might need a guinea pig to be first to test it out.
It's a silicone case, so I figure it's squishy. I do like the tyre tread design. And with the F1 2014 season starting up this weekend, what car guy/gal wouldn't want to walk around with a tyre stuck against their face? Haha

The fact that the case wraps around the top and bottom of the bezel ruins it for me :| i rely on the notification LED too much. But I absolutey love the design of the case on the back!!!
I think they needed a big lip over the top, sides, and bottom because it's silicone. It's the only way to hold the case on securely with a soft, stretchy material. If it was TPU it wouldn't be needed.
With it being silicone, it would probably be easy to punch a hole/notch manually with a paper hole puncher; if you really wanted the notification light exposed.
I just love those tyre treads though.

I can't say much for the case being on the nexus 5, but I know for a fact it's no good on my iPod touch, especially when you're taking it out of your pocket, it flops around. It is good for drops though, I'll give it that
