I'm trying to decide if I should file
a claim for my broken dinc1 with asurion and in turn get the dinc2
that they are offering but...
What are the chances that it will
get sent with 2.3.4 making s off impossible?
Id almost rather take the chances
on replacing the screen on my dinc if that's the case :/
S-off with gingerbread has been available for awhile now....

I thought that revolutionary didn't work on 2.3.4?
You wont get a DInc 2 with 2.3.4. The official gingerbread build is 2.3.3. and it is rootable through revolutionary.
I think the original DInc is getting 2.3.4.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA App
Well that's good news...I guess I got thrown off by the warnings that it wouldn't root 2.3.4 ie that it was a recent ota update. Thanks!

So since I messed up my first Droid by rooting and then OTA updating I was cautious about rooting my shiny new Droid Incredible 2. I updated to 2.3 OTA because I was excited about some of the features I saw in the Nexus S but unfortunately not all those features made it to my phone. Soon after I read that I saw a post of an OC Incredible 2 with a Quadrant score of over 3000. I am asking anyone out there, is there a way to root OTA 2.3 and if there isn't can some one as soon as they hear how to post here. Thanks.
Look into XTC Clip. I don't know if it can or not, but it's probably ur 1st choice right now.
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
XTC clip is currently the only method, unfortunately. And in reality, that is only getting you S-OFF. However, from there, you can move on to rooting.
No GB root at the moment.

Thread moved to proper forum.
Yea i would like to know this too. My wife has the DInc2.

well if your wife's phone is still on froyo, you should be able to use alpharevX to s-off then root it.
EDIT: just realized the title of this thread. too many threads open, got confused.
My neighbor just got a dinc2 and she saw CM7 on my tbolt.. of course she wanted that instead of Sense. So I tried AlphaRev to do the S-OFF stuff but I get 'failed getting root ' on both windows and linux. I think she has 2.3.3 on there.
Is there no way to put CM7 on this guy?
Not yet if it shipped with 2.3.3

Oh, and you might want to move this to the general section. Its a question, not a full development related thread...

What he says, thread moved.
Nope, not with my Dinc2 with Gingerbread update either... Here is to hoping HTC removes the ridiculous signed boot loader like they promised with the Sensation.
For serious, also hoping that alpha rev x hooks up those who updated but perhaps want to root later. That guy / team is awesome.

I hope someone figures out this whole GB mess. I've only had my Dinc2 for about a week and I'm already dying to flash something!
I'm in the same boat... just got my Dinc2 and was hoping there was SOME way to s-off this bad boy.
It shipped with GB 2.3.3..
If I WANTED it to have the GB on it, it would have come with Froyo!! Grrrr.
I assume no way to flash a 2.2 RUU?

I see the thread that says there is no root for Gingerbread but I've seen other posts that say there is an experimental beta for root.
Can someone enlighten me?
I have a buddy with a INC 2 and looking to root it, but it has Gingerbread already loaded.
There's currently no software root. The only option is the XTC clip.

awww.. makes me sad.
will check back here in a few weeks, maybe some luck then
Yup.. no root for people who updated to GB or got it preloaded. Stock isn't horrible though. I haven't had any real problems except wanting a couple more features like abit louder speaker or stronger vibrate options.
You can always get an XTC clip to S-Off. So no, it's not impossible. It's just not free
Edit: sorry, Nasty, didn't read see you already mention it

I may be wrong, but I don't believe gingerbread has a known exploit yet, for any phone. So even if you get s off, I am not sure it will help because root is a whole different thing.

Well, you are wrong. AlphaRev and Unrevoked have implemented a GB root exploit for both the HTC Sensation and the HTC Evo 3D in the latest Revolutionary solution.
In Twitter land there has been some success with other HTC devices, but the Dinc2 is proving to be troublesome.
Actually, I am rollin' a Moto Droid X2 and they just released a rooted GB update before my phone allows OTA update. Root it up!

Must be a new exploit. Last I checked the only root path for phones with gingerbread was a rollback to froyo.

You rooted it when it had froyo though. It is easy to flash a pre rooted rom, op is asking for a way to root an already installed gb.

If you manage to s-off the phone I would think you could flash a custom recovery with fastboot and from there flash a rooted rom.

Revolutionary uses the same temp-root exploit as it did with alpharevx, which means, that temp-root exploit is patched in GB. So revolutionary only works on froyo Inc2s.

Well considering we aren't concerned with those phones and there isn't a gb root for our phone, then you are wrong.

Why is he wrong? He said there's no GB root for the INC 2 but was pointing out to kingsway8605 that there is such a thing as a GB root.
Gingerbreak, it's been out for a while. But since Verizon likes to patch to OTA's and cover that exploit (Just like they did with the Droid X) Yes, it's proving to be rather difficult.

I reads kings post as gb on inc 2 doesn't have an exploit yet. Because if I remember correctly he made a comment about temp root on the 3d a while back. Either way no big deal

Greetings! I am new to the DINC2, just downgraded from my Droid X2 (or upgraded, however you want to call it) and love it! The phone (unfortunately) came out of the box with 2.3.3 (I even asked the guy to check before he started setting everything up). Anyways, I came from the DX2 because there isn't much development going on for it at the moment and I honestly needed something smaller. So far I love it!
TL;DR
Holy crap did this thing come with a lot of bloat! I've looked around the forums and seen that GB is unrootable at the moment. Does this phone work at all like the DX2 as far as SBF goes (probably not, since RSD is Motorola)? Anybody have a clue when it's going to be rootable again? Like an ETA? I will gladly donate to whoever is working hard to make this possible!
Thanks!
From my less than 24hrs with the inc2 I have figured out there is no eta for root. You cannot sbf like motos. You can not downgrade like the incredible via a ruu. We are waiting for an exploit. It took over 2 months for an exploit to be found for 2.2. So it is a waiting game.

There is a custom sense launcher I the thread somewhere. I don't know if it works for us or not, but it may let you hide apps. I know launcher pro does. And has some sense theming if you want it.

This is true. However, if you can't wait a probable couple of months till root (by alpharevx/unrevoked) then you could always obtain s-off by purchasing an xtc clip. This is the only known way to root gingerbread currently.
I got a replacement evo coming hopefully froyo
So I can root it and then flash a rooted 2.3 ota?

If it has Froyo then yes it is rootable and you can flash a rooted 2.3.3 ROM.
Don't get your hopes up though; most of the replacement ones are now being shipped with Gingerbread... Hopefully we'll see a breakthrough soon though as far as gaining S-off on the updated OG Evos.
Its a new one not refurb my first evo came with 2.2 but i was not aware 2.3.3 wasnt rootable and let it update
Well I believe even now the new ones come with 2.3.3.
Hopefully not cuz my current one was 2.2 and its new
Just need root to remove bloat that's all
Too much roms to decide on lol

Moot now since it was broken as of today yay
Now what's the best battery saving kernel/rom combo
I remember the syndicate rom and their kernel were best for the epic
