[Q] does the new Insertcoin require Revolutionary? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I've been using RCMix on my desire for the last couple of months and have loved it, but I feel like changing to something that seems to be updated a lot more often.
I am rooted and S-OFFed through Unrevoked and Alpharev, but on the first post of the ROM's thread it says it requires you to have run Revolutionary.
Is this actually necessary seeing I'm already rooted?
Also, when I flash a new ROM, as I've been using a ROM with A2SD, will the apps in the partition on the SD card cause any problems or will that be sorted with the usual wipe procedures?(I'll be nandroiding and titanium backuping before I do anything)
Many thanks

It just needs S-OFF, no matter if revolutionary or alpharev.
When you wipe prior to flash new ROM all apps from A2SD partition will be deleted, so do titanium backup.

YOU NEED S-OFF (AND ENG-OFF IF YOU WANT TO CHANGE BASEBAND RADIO)
wen you do a backup of your older rom you can restore it without problems and it restores user data, apps, system, dalvik cache...etc... all things that you was haved.
try and enjoy new roms after doing a nand backup!!!
EDIT: now is available a new version of Clockworkmod recovery:::: lastest:::: 3.0.2.6 and a new version of ROM MANAGER::::: 4.1.0.0
YOU can install it from android market...
donĀ“t forget that if you use an older version of CWM for sd card partition you can brik your device... be careful!
byeee boooyyyy!!!
To be safe, if you partition it, mount sdcard in pc separately. For Windows, use Mini Tool Partition Wizard Home Edition. Then 0% chance of brick.

[Q] Nandroid Backup?

Hey everybody,
I'm rooted for almost 4 months now. I only have one problem,
When I create a nandroid, all goes well, till restoring.
I get a USB-Brick and i can't use the nandroid. This is very annoying after doing a full wipe for another rom. I know it's caused by AmonRA.
I have version 2.0.0> upgrading tot 2.0.1, will that help
And can I do that without S-offing my phone.
I can't use CWM as I have a PVT4 SLCD Desire.
I really don't want to s-off yet.
Any help?
Hi, i have the pv4t w/ slcd, too
Cwm worked to root, then applied the alpharev from bootable CD to s-off. Nandroid backups work 100% safe untilled now.
Sent from my HTC Desire
Thanks but as i mentioned before i don't want to s-off yet.
I don't have any problems without s-off it's just titanium backup takes me ages because i have too many apps and nandroids are much easier but i'll think about it. No other solutions?

[Q] Help Flashing Custom ROM

Hi had the official 2.3 RUU installed on my Desire, I have used Reveloutinary.io to S off my phone, i have now r0oted my phone.
I have created an ext 3 partition on the SD card and took a nandroid backup.
The info i really need is my HBOOT v is 6.93, i want to install the "[ROM][15/08][STABLE][Sense2.1+3.0 GB]InsertCoin CM7 HBOOT/STOCK 1.1.1" on my phone, the question i have is can i simply flash the ROM straight on the phone, or will i have to downgrade the ROM to an official 2.2 RUU first.....
Sorry for the noobness but this is my first post ever so please go easy on me.
If you successfully s-off'd you dont need to downgrade anything, just copy the ROM to the SD Card and for this particular ROM make sure your ext partition is atleast 1GB.
Then Full Wipe/Factory rest + Cache wipe + Dalvik Cache Wipe in recovery.
Now flash the .zip file, after turning off signature verification (should be under "install from sdcard")
Also make sure you download right version of the ROM.
Stock A2SD version if you didnt changed HBOOT, and CM7 version if you changed your HBOOT to CM7.
Also if this is your first ROM, then take a look if you have any WIFI/GSM problems after you booted up, if so it means you might need to update your radio to 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23 (search forum for it, there are guides how to flash it too), if you dont have any issues then just ignore it.
Thank you so much for your help, will try it tomorrow and see how i get on.
I jumped the gun and tried it, i took an online backup using My backup pro and whe i have come to restore all of my apps and settings it has restored nothing.
Is there anything i have missed off this?
Sorry no idea i have no experience with My backup pro.. using Titanium Backup.

[Q] a2sd or a2sd+ on rooted stock rom

Hi
I have not been on the desire forum for quite a while as i got an SG2 but a friend of mine needs some help with his HTC Desire.
He is realy frustrated with the memory running out all the time so
I am going to root it for him and try to get him sorted with the memory issues.
He will not require anything special so I basically want to root it and install a2sd or a2sd+ onto his stock rom if possible so as not to lose his apps etc.
My question is, is it possible to install a2sd or a2sd+ onto a rooted stock rom without losing any data?
I know i need to add an ext3 partition which is not a problem.
It is but its much more hassle than its worth. best bet would be to flash something like Teppic74's rooted stock 2.3.3 (or even 2.2 but Dont see why you would).
You probably wouldnt need to wipe for this anyway. This is assuming its a GSM (Sim card) phone.
You can always take a titanium backup of all the apps and data anyway incase you do have to root.

Stock GB: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200261
Stock Froyo: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
Look for A2SD+ in description.
Backup all apps/data with Titanium Backup before wiping.
thanks guys. just what i was looking for

Planning to S-OFF, some questions before I do

So, I'm planning to finally S-OFF, mainly for the extra internal storage, and the extra speed since I won't be needing my ext3 parition any longer, so just to get some things straight -
1) I am currently on the latest Oxygen ROM, is it OK to S-OFF with this ROM?
2) I've made a nandroid backup of my ROM for restore, thing is, once I re-partition without an sd-ext, what happens when restoring the nandroid? Because when restoring, it needs to restore sd-ext... What do I need to do?
Thanks
As far as I know, Oxygen has a built in a2sd enabled when it sees that you have an EXT partition and might mess up Alpharev's (and or Revolutionary's) S-off process accourding to their site. I suggest you flash CM7 rom temporarily then S-Off with this installed since natively it doesn't support A2SD.
I'm not sure about the 2nd question. My logic tells me that I leave the ext, and do a nandrestore because it will obviously look for an ext partition to flash the data files back. The problem is once, restored and rebooted I don't know if there is a command or zip file you can flash to undo the a2sd and transfer the data from the ext to the data partition of the phone.
It would be better to go do a fresh reinstall of the rom and use titanium backup to restore your apps back.
Thanks, I probably will do the long TB restore process.
Re. the ROM issue - Will flashing Leedroid 2.5.0 Froyo ROM be good enough? As it seems to be pretty stock-ish.
Quoting Alpharev.nl
Requirements:
The only requirement right now is that the ROM you're running is rooted.
As techniques such as 'data2ext' have been popping up, these might disturb our finely-tuned flashing process.
Please revert to a rooted stock ROM if possible. Your /data partition is used for temporary storage of important files.

For my understanding as long as the ROM doesn't use data2ext, or 'anything'2ext out of the box it's good to go. I've S-off with Cyanogenmod rom on my phone so I can only speak from what I experienced.
