I was running CM7 at 1.5 GHz for a day, but I forgot to test out n64oid before going back to stock.
Has anyone here had any noticeable increase in emulator performance after an O/C?
zelda ocarina of time runs much better in certain areas with an overclock. market is prob earliest example.

Just got the N64 emulator and want to run Mario Kart as smooth as possible. Anybody have any ideas what combo of ROM and Kernel would produce the best results??

Exact same goal in mind, tried EVERY rom/kernel combo, ended up @
LiquidMetal + Cayniarb's Tiamat Kernel.
+10fps average in FPSE
Quadrant Score- ~1450
Battery life waaay better than stock/z
Smartass Governor with Tiamat's highest OC
STABLE.
(Z roms with Ziggy may get higher artificial scores, but in terms of fluidity they don't cut it for me. Smartass governor helps with gaming more than anything else I have found.)
what's the best rom giving best performance for gaming? e.g. to reduce lags on asphalt 5 or 6?
e.g.

Htc hd2 with custom rom is able to play asphalt 6 (though it's lagging) but on native stock desire, it lags like hell... should be able to run it at least like on hd2 as desire has the same hardware
I just installed the free version of 5 and I got no lag at all. My processor is overclocked to 1190MHz but that still shouldn't make much difference.
what rom are u using? have u tried asphalt 6? it requires more resources
I played Asphalt 6 on Oxygen 2.0.1 just fine. But its not butter smooth like on phones with better GPU. I'll say that as for gaming with more advanced games, Desire isn't powerful enough + the lack of multitouch doesnt give much of a gaming experience.
Asphalt 6 doesn't work too well.Desire isn't a gaming phone for a start so it has its limitations. You're looking for a dual core really

Although I haven't tried Asphalt on my phone, I'm more than happy with the games I run on my desire running GingerVillain but to lower the chances of lag I use SetCPU to overclock to 1113 MHz and change the governor to Performance. This gives me a quadrant score of 1355 which seems to run all the 3d games I want well enough. Probably not exactly what you wanted to hear but I thought it might give you a couple of options to try before binning your desire!
ok thx just bought the htc desire... other games work fine and are pretty good.. will play nfs shift instead which is quite good
Hey guys,
I wonder if the so called gaming SoC will get any better in terms of gaming performance with further updates from HTC. At the moment the games run barely as good as on my SGS2. I know..the resolution of the HOX is twice as high but the games graphics ar getting better and I cant even play NOVA 3 with my 'gaming device'... There is a way to make it a bit less laggy with new Base and franco kernel but it's still far away from beeing smooth. What I want to ask you is: Is there still potential for tegra 3 to run those games smooth and it's just a matter of time till an update comes that improves the framerates or is it just hardware limited? Are there other Tegra 3 devices which can run these games without any issues? I'm hoping that the 3.* kernel will improve something but actually I have no clue.
well u have to look at this from the point of view of the game/software/hardware
the one game u mentioned is not HOX compatible,
it's been force run on the device.... so as far as this go..... you'll need to wait for the game to be T3 optimized
software optimizations are still underway from both xda devs and htc.... and as u see they are getting better by the day
and finally not much to say about the hardware but... its more than capable just give it time.

This will not be a VS thread. I love all the ROMs we have and they all serve different needs for each of us. My primary question is which ROM/Kernel is best suited for intensive gaming (NFS MW, MC4, NOVA 3 etc)? I have played Hill Climb Racing and it lags and Bike Race Pro lags (stock ROM, stock kernel). Nova 3 is almost unplayable, NFS MW is very playable but reflections are in accurate. Any suggestion? I'm a big cell phone gamer and had the Optimus G for a few weeks and it spoiled me at gaming. Haha.
Like I said, please don't turn this into a VS thread, I will not have it. I just need a good combo of ROM and kernel. I tried Ktoonsez newest kernel slightly over clocked and it helped tremendously with Nova 3 and it brought full reflections to NFS MW but the 2d gaming hasn't changed much. I know our phone is capable of current games, our GPU is slightly upgraded from the Adreno 220 but even that GPU played great with most games.

Hey all,
Currently using xElite Gamer 2.0, tested in Aurora Play 2.0 as well, didn't notice any difference in frame rates. I'm getting +25-30 FPS in Justice League Heroes with PPSSPP but in combats the FPS drops to 20-22. Now I was wondering if there is any way to gain a little more speed, since I'm already using my Play at 1.6 GHz, and honestly I don't want to push my luck against higher frequencies. But I'm willing to "sacrifice" something like the camera to gain more RAM (don't know if it's going to help that much).
PS: Some players say Swap really helps with games, does it help with emulators as well?
Thanks in advance.
Hardly. There is already enough free RAM that PPSSPP need, weak CPU is to blame for low performance in emulation. That's why you gain speed only by overclocking. Maybe in future, if they optimise code to run better on lower end CPU's, you might gain some speed. For now, what you see is what you get...
I agree with Bakisha, sadly Xplay's hardware is ancient nowdays and 1GHz CPU single core is really weak for gaming, especially for emulation. Overclock doesn't help that much trough, I've tried FF Dissidia emulated with PPSSPP with 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 GHz overclock and there wasn't almost any difference, the game was unplayable and I got a phone crash (forced reboot) with 2.0 GHz. Consider that some PSP games lags a bit even on phones like Note 3 with 3 GB RAM and quad-core CPU so you can't expect much more from the Xplay.
