[q] please help!! - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently tried to flash the non rooted stock rom for the evo 4g from the bootloader. However, when the update got to system, it failed with this next to it, "Failure-PU." I have done this procedure before and it succeeded without problems. However now, it won't work. The update as a whole failed obviously, and when I try to boot into recovery, it gets stuck at the htc evo 4g splash screen. I have used fastboot and the bootloader itself to flash both amon ra and clockwork. It says it was completed everytime. However, I still can't boot into recovery. It continues to hang up. I need urgent help! I can't afford to replace my phone!
EDIT: Finally fixed it. Cleared storage in HBOOT and reflashed Amon RA.

stuck at splash screen

running hboot .92, radio 2.15.00.09.01. I was using clockworkmod recovery. I flashed amon recovery and everything was good. I then tried for partition my sd card and things did not turn out good. My phone will not boot past the initial splash screen. I can boot into recovery, but get a message saying the cache can not be mounted or formated. I put clockwork back on and can get into recovery, but can not do a restore.
Any suggestions??
edit: fixed. Apparently I trashed my internal partitions when I was messing around with amon recovery. Here is a post I followed to fix the situation: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/6433-solved-messed-up-partitions-on-internal-storage/ . Made for a long day getting everything restored back to where I started.

[Q] Accidentially deleted recovery

Hello! While flashing RA recovery on my rooted stock 2.1 Desire, something went wrong (got stuck on Waiting for root... message). Phone powered off, didn't power on again, so took battery out. Phone booted as it usually does, but when I boot to recovery, I just get HTC screen, and nothing more. Looks like I've erased recovery.
YES, I've tried reflash with RA mod.
YES, I've tried to reflash with Clockwork mod.
YES, I've used unrEVOted last version (as of 18/11) to flash my phone.
How do I return standard recovery or flash RA? I need to install new ROM, and I can't do it without recovery.
Try this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=673277
its the original way to flash a ROM before clockwork mod and that where created.

Can't Use custom Rom or create Nandroid Backup

Hi guys,
I got an Evo earlier this week and tried to root it first thing. I read that it might not be possible on the latest ones, but I wanted to try it anyway. I now have S-Off and root with HBoot 2.02 using some instructions from here and unRevoked 3.2.
I've been trying to take a nandroid backup and keep getting errors. I tried using Rom Manager (which just boots to ClockWorkMod Recovery and does nothing), tried to use ClockWorkMod Recovery which gets an error like can't mount /system and then I'm stuck in a continuous boot loop, and I've tried to use Amon-RA recovery which gives me an error to run nandroid-mobile.sh and then I'm stuck in a boot loop again.
Everytime I try to do a backup, I have to rerun the RUU and then UnRevoked to get my phone back in working order. It's already been about the 5th time I've done this. I've read and searched everywhere. Any help would be appreciated.

[Q] root evo from 2.1 (02/11/11)

My phone reboots before the rom loads, I rooted my evo using the unrevoked method and everything was fine until it started to reboot on its own. I, however, messed up and ran an older pc36img.zip so it unrooted me to 2.1 (2.1 does not reboot in other words its stable) thats not where the problem is at, when i do the over the air updates and get to 2.2 it reboots again and i would just take it to sprint but the s-off is my problem. What can I do fix the reboot or show s-on?
Almost sounds like a boot loop. If you can still boot into recovery, do a full wipe, then reflash a rom. That should help.

no I tried that same thing happened now the issue is that I'm unrooted so there is no recovery and when i get to 2.2 thru over the air updates I'm stuck in a boot loop
Flash a custom rom and radios
Thanks guys but i found out that the reason it was stuck on boot loop was because of the memory card. I turned it on with out the memory card and it was fine I put it back in and back to the loop, so now I reformatted the card and everything seems fine.

[Q] Rooted Bricked EVO 4g Running 2.3??

Hello, I'm new to the forum. So I'll try to explain my story as detailed as possible So,
This morning I decided to root my evo running 2.3 with REVOLUTIONARY s-off.
Then I flashed superuser on the evo. it worked perfectly. And I was rooted. But that wasn't the problem. The problem started when I tried to flash a custom rom on my evo. The rom was The kingdom rom, by virus. I put it on my ad card and went into recovery, recovery seemed a little different. It had a REVOLUTIONARY logo in recovery. I flashed the rom, it was succesful, I rebooted the device and I noticed it would just stay on the first white boot screen, the one that states htc evo 4g. I left it there for 10 minutes but it still didn't leave the boot. I took out the battery and went back into recovery, I reflashed the rom and rebooted the device but no luck, the same thing persisted. So I went BACK into recovery and mounted the USB hboot with my sd card, I then put a PC36IMG.zip and flashed that because I thought that would put everything back to stock. I rebooted the phone, put to my surprise, the pc36img file was loaded before I did anything on my boot loader screen.... It was flashed and it was rebooted, but no luck. I went back to my boot loader and tried to go back into recovery but it doesn't work!!! all I see now when I choose recovery is a picture of a phone with an exclamation point. This is weird but I think I'm partially rooted because in my boot loader it is s-off and has a REVOLUTIONARY boot logo.... Please help, I booted my device and all I see is the first boot screen, and I've seen that for 2 hours and 24 minutes.... Help me please!!!
Running an RUU replaces the recovery with the stock recovery, which is pretty much not a recovery. I believe if while on that screen (the red triangle recovery screen) if you hold both volume buttons at the same time you'll be given some options. Anyway, you just need to flash a recovery.
Here is Amon Ra: http://db.tt/WP0beNa
It's a PC36IMG file. Remove the other one and flash that. Then boot into recovery, wipe boot, data, cache, dalvik, sd-ext, and .android_secure. Then flash the rom or try a different one.
