So, after 3 months I am still looking for a headset. My wishlist is as follows:
1. Wired, so that it can double as antenna for the built-in radio.
2. Remote (prev./next track, prev./next radio station).
3. Microphone for calls (with button to answer and end calls obviously!)
4. Volume control
5. In-ear design
6. Stereo (of course!).
I have searched numerous brands and models, even inquired directly. So far,
JAYS and KLIPSCH support have answered that they do not have such a model
in their product ranges. I am waiting for feedback from other manufacturers, but
I thought I 'd share the story in the meantime
So, does anyone know *for sure* of a wired headset that matches the above
criteria? Just for the record, I am using a BT Plantronics Discovery 650, which
is of course for calls only, and it works great (multipair etc).
Cheers

I have already contacted Klipsch Tech Support. Here is their feedback:
"Because our headphones with button control feature an Apple chip we cannot
guarantee the level of functionality they will have with other cell makes/models."
Also, the product's page on klipsch's site does not leave room for hope, and at
€80+ it's not something to experiment with.....
Sennheiser feedback just in: They say that MM30i and MM50i are compatible,
with the exception of volume control because "Android has no standard defined
for how to remotely control volume in the headset" (!! is that true????)
EDIT: Just checked. You probably mean Klipsch S4A. Yes, they seem to do the job
(no mention for radio station prev/next function though), together with the accompanying
App. Price must be around €80. It's just surprising that their Tech Support did not mention
anything to me!

looking for the same but can do without the volume control.
is there any other model that can do the trick?
I got the sennheiser mm70i.
And? Is your experience any different than what is reported here?

I tested Jabra Bt620s.Its fully functional with my s2.(including prev./next track) .Calls are great. But music quality is awful. Therefore i ordered Klipsch ProMedia from ebay.
If you look at photos and specs, it must be using same driver and control unit as Klipsch S4a (android version). If not maybe i can adjust it with the free android program which will be given by Klipsch.
Based on what I see on the product's web page, the Promedia headset is rather
targeted for the PC market. Maybe you could control it with an app (although
nothing is mentioned), but then why not buy the S4a? It's a newer model,
and supposedly designed for use with Android phones. Also, the specs are
probably better.
The main problem with both models is that they have ONE button remote! I find
it totally absurd to keep pressing 2-3-4-1-2 times in order to forward-back-skip
etc. or increase/decrease volume (of course this is Andoid's fault, as I keep
reading these days while researching for a decent headset that does BASIC and
ELEMENTARY things found on heasets for dumbphones since years ago with
dedicated buttons - not to mention crapple's........).Come on Google, give us
some basic functionality here!
I choose Promedia because S4a not exists right now and usd.40 differance.
Maybe you should examine this article.
search google for ''HTC HD2 Kulaklık upgrade''.. and go for the first link.

How you found the kilpsch for music?
Get a pair of HTC RC E160 headphones for about £3 from eBay or Amazon. If you don't like the earpieces, or want an inline volume control, chop them off and solder a line socket in their place so you can use your preferred regular headphones (with inline volume control, if they have it).
I use Klipsch Image x10i with mine. Its clarity and bass are amazing for such compact headset.
Mic works, call/action button works.
Before I've used Etymotic hf2, also worked 100% fine. x10i sound quality is way better though (primarily in bass range).
Volume control buttons doesn't work, but I believe no wired headset could provide iPhone-like dedicated volume buttons for S2, simply because there are no circuitry in the wired jack for such capacity. You could use one-button control though.
Hello,
As you already mentioned, the Jays seems to be great for android. I would recomment the a-Jay One+ with one button inline remote and mic. And also use the Jays Headset Control app from Market, its free! Tho that app could be used for other headsets aswell... It also has Volume Control "Gesture".
Volume +: Long press a single click
Volume -: Long press a double click
Track +: Double click
Track -: Triple click
Edit: Looks jmaciak suggested the the Jays One+ already So there is already 2 vote for them! Go get it!
I also love the flat cable design, its superb!
Slight bump here but I managed to click my way here form another thread, so...
I'm in the same boat, and have looked around, but think I'll take the same route as I did with the iPhone headset: take q cheap headset made for the device and solder on some better buds. I have a tutorial from back then on how to do it, and the method is the same for Samsung buds: http://andreasodegard.com/2009/08/iphone-3gs-remote-control-headphone-mod/
Takes a bit of skill, but frankly not much. This way you can mix and match whatever headphones you want and get control functionality

I can't get wired headsets to work with my white mytouch 4g phone. I've tried diddy beata, bose, skullcandy, plantronics 216, and others. My phone shows the headset icon at the top, but the mic and controls don't work. I've gotten a warranty exchange on the phone, took. So, I'm wanting to know:
1.what wired headsets work for you?
2. Does it have more than one button controls?
3. What color is your phone?
Try the original headphones that come with the phone, if they don't work either goto your local tmo store with all your equip and see if they can't help you or exchange
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Did that
Original earphones work with controller and mic. That's what makes it even more confusing and frustrating. Even so,t mo did a warranty exchange and again, the box headphones completely worked, but no other one's did. When the 3rd party headphones are plugged in, the symbol shows its a headset, but the controls and mic functionality don't work. I have two going theories on 3rd party headsets for the mt4g, 1. Only one-button wired headsets work. 2. Something is goofy about a group of manufactured phones; ie one's made in china, whiter ones, etc.
People please help me with your responses on 3rd party headphones, as t-mobile and htc have neither been able to help!
Unfortunately, it looks like it only works with the stock headphones.
If you REALLY want to start working on this, i would suggest you root your device and begin cracking down at both the headphones and what is going on behind the scenes.
I've been searching for a while and still haven't found one that works as good as the stock (crap) headset.
Noticing pretty much ALL aftermarket headsets are made for apple and if they work with any android phones, you're lucky.
Use to have sony, but the only thing that worked was the headset for music. No controls and no mic. I'm currently using both the meelectronics m9p and the jlabs j3m along with PlayerPro. For the most part, the controls work ok, but the sound quality is way better than stock. Both has a single button.
For music:
can single click to pause/play
double click to skip forward
triple click to rewind to current song
quad click to go to previous
Single click to answer/end calls does not work. Instead, while on a call, a single click starts the music player.
None of the aftermarket headsets work entirely. From what I can find out, all the aftermarket 3 button headsets use the outside buttons for volume control.
If you're looking for the music controls, stick with your OEMs
If you're looking for better sounding headsets, any aftermarket will do.
If you're looking for both, go bluetooth. I use the MW600.
BTW. Black

Thanks well, that goes along with my other theory that only single buttons will w work. They need to make some simple adapter or s something. Stock headphones blow and hurt my ears. Don't want to use bluetooth because that sucks the battery down big time.
I'm told through htc that a3.5mm to micro usb may be a work-around. Will post if that works and if there's diminished sound quality.

That is what I've discovered; only single buttons will work. With power amp, long press erl skip the track. I haven't tried the skullcandy with single button with multi-function yet. However, I HIGHLY recommend the rf3 envi earbuds. Amazingly good sound with great bass and a patented technology that eliminates radiation from reaching your ears. Pretty cheap, too! Stol haven't tried the micro usb adapter yet

Okay, I'm posting this response as a service to all those infuriates out there struggling to find am explanation why we can't use headphones like everybody else. We find this out when its too later to do any refund and we convince ourselves that headphones are not a dealbreaker. Well, before I got the s4i's, I had pretty strong evidence that all headsets would not work impresa they only had one button (including those that boast several clicks do current things-although it won't on your phone). When the s4i came, the suspicion was confirmed. However, I was very disappointed by sound quality anyways, so not a big loss. I felt like I liked my headphones without controls for sound quality anyways. So, fellow mt4g users, jets what to do. The best headset with mic (you can still use the button to ffwd and pause) that I've found so far is the jbuds j4m. Very clear highs and mids, with decent bass. Very durable and look cool. Chord is a little long though. Better still is a bluetooth device made by cellular innovations found on amazon for about 30 bucks. Its a bluetooth with music controls that clips on your short or whatever and you can plug ANY of you favorite headphones into and listen to your tunes.
Hi,
I'm thinking about buying JAYS a-JAYS Four headphones for use with my Galaxy S II. I'm quite sure they will work as far as sound is concerned, but what about on-cable controls?
Anybody tried these with our favourite phone yet? Alternatively, do programs like Headset button control or Headphone droid recognize all of the buttons to enable full use of this headset?
Thanks for answering
I've tried these earphones so far:
Shure SE215 (with the cable with buttons)
Beats Tour with ControlTalk
Klipsch image S4i
Play/Pause button works as will the mic if there is one. Volume up and volume down buttons do not work. Double press/triple press to skip/go back one song also works well with PowerAmp. I'm sure there are other music players that work as well.
If those have in-line buttons, I'm positive the play/pause will work.
Thanks for answering.
Did you try any of the aforementioned apps to make all buttons work?
I'd like to have 100% functionality if at all possible...

My wishlist is the same as yours, but still no joy. If only my Nokia WH-701
could work..... (only sound comes through, none of the controls work).
As long as Google does not address the issue (it's a native Android problem),
none of the manufacturers can do anything. For example, Klipsch have the S4A
model specifically for Android, but it needs its own app to work, plus it's a one-button
headset (meaning 2-3-4-xxx presses for whatever function). I find that
TOTALLY RIDICULOUS.
That's why my idea is to use these apps to override for example long press volume button on headset to skip tracks, etc.
In fact I did just order Klipsch S4i and I'll try to make it work 100% with some app like I mentioned above.
I'll report the results here
In the end I got Klipsch S4i headphones, so sound is great, but only central button works for Play/Pause and mike works for calls. Volume keys don't work even with extra apps like Headset Droid.
i read before, dont remember exactly what post, that some rom support htc headphone that can skip play pause volume etc
No three button headset support for SGSII
Hi all,
I can confirm I haven't found (yet) the way to get the all three buttons on a-Jays Four headphones on the Samsung Galaxy S2. Btw, the headphones are great and that wide lead is really tangle-free.
Anybody, any leads?
I tried PowerAmp - the center button works fine, you can do multiple actions with it as double click is supported for example.
Headset button controller apps will give you the center button support for any apps, and you can set a variety of things to do with it, for such a small price (2.99GBP), it's a great thing. You can even have something like "Say current time" with quadruple button click! In theory, you can setup 8 functions just with this one center button but beware, making "triple click and hold" is ultra tricky... so let's say, you can easily program 4-6 functions, so, do you really need the extra two buttons...?
Anyways, if anybody knows how to get the other two buttons to work, please tell...
Is it better then to go for a-Jays One + with one button instead for a-Jays Four? I would say no, i am sure somebody will add the support for the other two buttons at one point, seems like hardware-wise the phone should be supporting this (as apparently using same type of plug as iDevices).
i have these earphones and thers no way to use the three buttons. ajay has an android app to configure the headset but you can only use the center button, so you have to do all the tasks with it. But i think its the same with every earphone cuase almost 99% are made for iphone. Actually i nver so one say its made for android
Just checked with my a-jays four - "Jays headset control" app works like a charm. Need to get use to it ( volume up / down controls ) but - totally worth it
From my experience:
Headphones with mic, only the answer button will work.
For a louder sound it´s necessary at least 32 ohms headphones.
Remote
Any earphones with an in-line remote can be used to skip tracks and +/- the volume with this----> https://market.android.com/details?id=jp.co.chobirich.tools.mediabutton&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImpwLmNvLmNob2JpcmljaC50b29scy5tZWRpYWJ1dHRvbiJd app from the market

Did anyone see the the post on the Jays site about them teaming up with Samsung?
Jays has signed an agreement with Samsung, the world's largest manufacturer of smartphones. The deal sees Jays and Samsung team up for a number of joint promotional activities during February 2012.
The Swedish headphone manufacturer has long had a strong presence in Asia and the new partnership with Samsung will give Jays a further boost. Samsung is the world's largest manufacturer of smartphones by volume, with a 24% market share and 28 million phones sold in Q3 2011 alone. The cooperation will see Jays’ award-winning v-JAYS being marketed together with selected products across Samsung´s 691 stores and with its other retailers in Korea during February.
“The agreement with Samsung is a great boost for our profile in a key target market. It’s also an incredible endorsement of Jays’ unrivalled quality and our continued success. Coming from the world's largest manufacturer of smartphones it’s a great compliment,” comments Rune Torbjörnsen, CEO of Jays AB (publ). “Our Mobile Music concept has proven to be a very popular initiative and the response has been staggering. We’re continuing with our mission to deliver the highest quality and most musical sound to any media player and this collaboration with Samsung takes us even closer to this goal.”

I'm hoping it means better headphone support in the future!
It would be rather good they do something for existant models too, seeing their teaming up with Samsung. Maybe an insight in some API could do the miracle (although I'm waiting for my a-jays one button model to arrive)?
Would gladly see this possible right of the bat and not a year afterwards...

HOW!? Please tell me how!
Does NOT work for me. a-Jays Four with DHD on CM7
Better support in a future? not necessary, no
Hi,
I emailed Jays with this:
"Dear Jays,
I have bought your excellent earphones - a-Jays Four. My question is, as you have now partnered with Samsung, are you going to release an Android application so that I could use all three buttons (not just middle one) with a Samsung Galaxy S2 phone please?
If you would, your sales of the earphones would rocket up as you probably know the SGSII is extremely popular Android phone and there are no earphones with working three buttons on it.
Yours dedicated fan,"
and got this back
"Dear Lukasz,
We have not partnered with Samsung more than that they sell our products in their Samsung stores in South Korea.
The a-JAYS Four iPhone is made for Apple and the volume buttons is hardware controlled to Apples products so they cannot work with other products. But check out our JAYS Headset Control app that gives you volume control and more and for free.
// Regards JAYS"
So no, don't expect three button support anytime soon. I have learned to live with one button and multiclicks and its ok.
Regards,
Mod
Hi,
it looks like somebody has modded iPhone earphones and these work with Android devices, whether the mode would work on the aJays and with Samsung Galaxy S2 nobody knows, if you manage to do it, let me know.
As I can't input any urls (bollocks!), you have to do the google search. Use this "Galaxy-Nexus-and-others-headset-remote-with-medi"
Hi, anyone know if in the headphones AKG Q460 the play/pause and next/previous track buttons work in android (SGS2)?

same question
If you download an app like 'Headset Controller App' you can use any 3 button remote and mic on Android. The app recognises and configures any buttons to whatever functions you want, real handy, use it all the time on my HTC desire S with 'Made for iPhone' earphones, no problems
one more question.
I've some problem with mobile-headphones. The standart headphone they without mic and has just 2 lines on TRS 3.5 but mobile headphone has 3 lines on TRS 3.5.
The problem is when I connect my samsung\black-berry headphones to my MP3 Iaudio I7 so I hear very very weak until I click some buttom on the cable of headphone.
will I get same problem with this headphone on my I7 or PC?

Are you really sure about this ? I have read mixed reports on Headset Controller Button. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Seems to depend on the headsets, and also on the android smartphone.
I'm desperately trying to find if a AKG headset (Q460 or K451) can be made to work (all 3 buttons) with my Xperia Arc S. This info seems just IMPOSSIBLE to find right now !!!
Sorry for the late answer, But I am registered since only a few minutes.
Try it with the included Nokia-Adapter. This works fine on my xperia x10 mini.
If you upgrade your phone to the newest version of android, they will definitely work. Tried it already

Hi
I have an Xperia SL and this is not working...
I can stop/play the music, but cannot receive calls and no one hears me when I speak to the phone's mic.
is there a way to solve it?
I'm using AKG Q460
thanks
I have the Q460 and Galaxy S3.
The Play/Pause/Next Track function works. The Mic and Vol control does not.
The Q460 was made for the Iphone/Ipod with a 4 pole jack.
The limitation is a physical (wired) connection that is not present on the Android phones.
Bear in mind the headset was also tuned for the Iphone4/5 - sound will be weaker and distorted on my Galaxy-for example - but sounds OK with PC/Kindle Fire output.
I ordered a headphone amp for my S3 to fix that problem.
If you want phone functions on android get an AKG model that supports the android phones of which there are several.

In the last 6-7 months I reviewed a few dozen of headphones with fixed or removable iDevice cables and EVERY single one worked on my Note 2 w/android 4.1.2. I mean, volume up/down will not work because iDevices use different resistor values in the remote, but multifunction button worked perfectly for play/pause/call, double click to skip, and long press for Google Now. I was under impression Galaxy S3 was supporting 4pole jack as well with extra control signal. So Vol not working is expected, but I wonder if something is wrong with your mic?
Btw, how do you like Q460? I just did search, seems to be bass oriented, not much of mids/treble details (I only trust Tyll's reviews: http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/akg-quincy-jones-k460)

I just took a second look at my s3 factory earbuds, thanks to you, and they sure do have 4 poles. Two of the four are supposedly reversed on iPhone, as has been stated elsewhere. So the issue is still wiring in my opinion, Different resistor values- not sure but sounds like it would be an issue, no pun intended. I did not test my mic so I cannot say that it does not work, so I stand corrected. Which leaves me with the same observations that you had with the i devices cords. I stay with my original contention- that no "App " will fix this.
As far as reviews I listened carefully to two tracks looking for bias/distortion : " Animus Vox" by the Glitch Mob which carries the full spectrum and "Them Shoes" studio version, by Patrick Sweany, which focuses on voice, mid, and highs. I detected no bias toward lows, and the mids, highs were crisp. These phones, remember, were marketed for accuracy, not as "beats killers", and I am not disappointed.
There are a number of heavy hitter reviewers that agree with me so I would have to say they are real scientists
I ordered an aftermarket cable to replace the short cable that comes with the phones, the one without the Vol control.
And my headphone amp will be here tomorrow night (FiiO E12 Mont Blanc Portable Headphone Amplifier ).
One caveat : I expect these phones to sound even better with a CD since the lousy compression of Pandora or Amazon MP3's should not be used to review headphones.
Then, there gotta be a difference between S3 and N2/N3/S4. I would not be surprised that starting with N2 Samsung "aligned" poles to work with apple in-line remote. I can tell you with 100% certainty that every single headphone I tested (check out my signature link to all my reviews on XDA, also a sticky in this accessories forum section) with iDevice in-line remote worked perfectly with my Note 2 and also with S4 when I had that one for review from Verizon. Volume didn't work, but multi-function play/pause/call button did.
Regarding resistor values, take a look at this link. They go over in high details about it: http://www.instructables.com/id/Galaxy-Nexus-and-others-headset-remote-with-medi/

No app will allow iDevice up/down volume control to work on android, at least none I'm aware off. Do you mind posting a link to app you have in mind?

You can get the same app with better controls for free, JAYS: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.jays.headsetcontrol
And, NONE of these apps, neither yours nor mine will allow iDevice volume control on in-line remote with Android phone > 4.x. There is a workaround from the app to get volume control working on Android 2.x devices, but it doesn't work on 4.x.
I usually listen to the music over my Note...
Could anyone advise a good sound quality wired headset with full compatible microphone & its control with Galaxy Note?
initially wanted to get Klipsch S4A for Android but read somewhere that it might have compatible issue with some Samsung Android phone. So do beware if you are getting this.
these sound awsome for music
http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/hf2.html
and can be got for as little as £65
Thanks friends for you all recommended...
However, I have see many wired headset in iPhone shop with vary price level & quality.... if they compatible with iPhone, can it also compatible with Note? (I see they using the same connector type)
You have to choose carefully
Tee3D - No! Not all headphones that work on iPhone will work with the Note. I have a pair of iLuv cheap headphones for the iPhone and they work fine with it. The headphone has a mic and phone/music controls that work fine on an iPhone, but not all of the controls work on my Note. You have to check carefully.
I just bought Klipsch promedia.
http://www.klipsch.com/promedia-in-ear
Sound quality is very good, they are comfortable and music control works well.
1 click for play/pause, 2 clicks for next track.
You can also install from market klipsch control which allows you to control the volume too.
I paid klipsch promedia 45€..very very good for that price
If you are not looking for high-end audio quality (which I suppose you can't really get with the Note, given the rather less-than-good audio circuitry implementation), I would suggest to give the bundled headphones a try. I've been using them from the start and I find them quite decent.
Thanks all friends for advises & comments

There better than awesome and the mic is the best I've used as well.
the Op asked for a wired headset with the full control (mic, vol, stop, play, next track) of the original headset - as far as I have researchrf none of those recommended do that without tricks or using software solutions. can anyone recommend a headset they are using that are good and have the mic and all controls for the note? I just lost my original samsung note headset. Or does anyone know a place that has a discounted or reasonable price on the the samsung original headset - I can't find them when I google for it.
Skull candy 50/50 got it from apple store although fwd/rewind/nxt/previous track buttons not working ' i am happy '.
Sound quality Its awesome.
Also mic and play/pause button is functional.

AKG 450s sound absolutely amazing with music. They are a set of portable headphones that are on offer at the moment for £40 GBP on Amazon, which is £60 off from the £100 price-tag (itself a cut from a £150 price tag). They fold up and you can buy an accessory set with volume control and a microphone for use on mobiles. These things knock the socks off of Beats!
Try this android with volume control works

I though I'd ask you guys as you'd know best.
I have some excellent sounding Klipsch x10i but the volume buttons don't work on my Samsung Galaxy S III I9300
I was looking at this but it says it will not work with S3/S4
Is there anyway around this?
Thanks
This could be the answer but is there a cheaper option?

I am afraid not
I am looking for something likes this very long but could find a solution.
The thing you found seems great... I hope it works
Samsung has their own propietary headphones that correctly work with your phone. As far as others, you can get a player that supports customizing the buttons on the headphones, like the one i use Player Pro.
Volume - forget about it, its proprietary. In order to make it to work, you need to crack remote open and replace 2 resistors inside. It's very tedious and these in-line remotes are so small, you might break it before taking it apart.
Regarding control and MIC - it absolutely DOES work. Get JAYS free app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.jays.headsetcontrol - and with a single multi-function control button you can play/pause audio and video, pick-up/hang-up calls and use MIC (you don't even need app to use any of these functions for single button and mic use), then also assign double and triple click for playback control to skip Next/Prev tracks and adjust timing between clicks (very important because if timing is too short it will think you did a double click and a single click).
Look into my signature link and over a hundred accessory review I posted on XDA, including headphones with dedicated Apple controls. Everything works great
Btw, how do you like x10i? I have S4A II (supposed to be for android, but they simply removed volume buttons from apple version, leaving a single multi-function control button). My favorite under $100 headphones are UE 600vi with "apple" control, about $59 on amazon. Wireless, I can't get enough of new Plantronics BackBeat Go 2. Also, might get x7i to review, heard some saying it sounds better then x10i? Also, Klipsch released x11i too.

Great, another HK spammer who is trying to get to 10 posts with useless short sentence replies just so he/she can start posting links to their product. I'm guessing it's going to be from "onite"? LOL!!!
ControlTalk is owned by Apple
As I said in the title. The ControlTalk protocol seems to belong to Apple. It seems there isn't anyone who has figured out the protocol, or if it needs some kind of logic in the phone to process the commands.
Basically everything I've found involving someones headphone button control app always works for most buttons, but not the volume buttons.
So its either an Apple well kept secret (NDA for vendors like Beats) or some kind of technical limitation which stops it working on non-apple devices.
Even HTC with Beats branding cant support Volume Up and Volume Down on the Apple ControlTalk headphones with Android devices.
Happy to be proven wrong if someone knows more.
