Which app would be best to control the kernels customizable contents like overclocking wattage audio boost. I'm kinda noob when it comes to changing settings that are allowable through the kernel i probably listed most that cant be. But what app is good for overclocking would it be the setcpu app?

Absolutely SETCPU. Make sure you let it auto detect after you install.
EDIT: Tiny updated to beta6, he says it's the RC now.
Thanks! I've been wondering about that one but didn't want to feel like I was wasting my money.

no, setCPU is the ****; you won't be wasting your money, trust.

Certainly OK, but useful... you'll get a lot of answers. I'll say it can be

If your happy with the way your phone is running then why mess with it? Setcpu will work with it no problems but if you want to overclock then you will need to change kernels

Yeah I wasn't planning on issuing for overclocking, but for underclocking when the screen is off.

SetCPU is useful regardless of ROM or Kernel. The ability to select different profiles and CPU settings based on need or battery life is always nice. I would set my default to "On Demand" and max 998 min 128. Then enable profiles and set it up how you like. I perfer to drop my cpu way down while charging, wayyy down for screen off, and hero style 528 for 50% or less battery.
If you do opt for a different kernel make sure it is one that is listed in Myn's post, otherwise it will bork your Spare Parts app.

Ok thanks for the info! I'll play with it and see if I get better battery.

I would like to boost my performance a little bit either through another kernel or overclocking or both. How do you overclock the Dinc, and do some kernels overclock better than others? Thanks for any help.
Certain kernels have higher overclocking ceilings than others but none are "better", per se, for overclocking. Check out setCPU or CM7 has overclocking preferences built in.

Ok cool.
I am running cm7 but also have setcpu, is one preferred over the other? And as far as overclocking, do you just start increasing the speed slowly until you get it where you want or it becomes unstable?

I would just use the built in OC of CM7, I've heard that using both can cause conflicts. And yes, just bump up your frequency bit by bit and if you start getting reboots or freezes, dial it back. For AOSP kernels, I've founds incredikernel to work really well, then invisiblek, then tiamat. Though incredikernel does have a lower OC ceiling than the others.

"kernel manager pro" in the market may also be useful for you. It keeps up to date on which kernels work specifically for your device and you can flash from the app. I'm currently using Tiamat 4.0.2. It will clock to 1228MHz
Other than SetCPU apk, Is there another apk that will allow me to overclock on my evo????
There are a couple in the market. Overclock widget is one of them
We're comin from a pure power source.
I personally like SetCPU the best

You are probably aware of this but I'll throw it out just in case... You also have to be running a kernel that allows overclocking.

Yea, I think this is my problem, it won't go past 998400mhz. It says you can disable Perflock, but that doesn't do anything.
So is there no way to overclock with 2.6.35.10 htc kernel?
So on the miui.us.us latest after installing tiamat kernel everything works great...but do I need to install something like setCPU(which I would like to avoid) to set clock speeds etc etc. I'm pretty sure you do seeing how I can't find it anywhere in settings. I know in roms such as mexdroid and the like new kernels replace "performance settings". So I'm thinking I need to use setCPU.
Thanks for any help given

I'm not completely sure about that specific kernel, but its a pretty good idea to run SetCPU if your ROM doesn't include CPU settings.
For example, if the kernel you installed OC's up to 1.5ghz or something, you may prefer to run at a lower frequency. SetCPU is probably a good idea. Also, if you want to run at 1.5ghz you're going to need SetCPU profiles for heat and screen off, etc.

Thanks for response. I know all about setCPU, I just don't like it. But yeah looks like that's the only option. Although miui.us seems to be clocked at 1GHz so I think I'll just stick with that.
Thanks again...and tiamat kernel works great on it

Good. Yea I don't like setCPU either. I use the built in controls in CM7. If you're happy with the stock clock speed and don't have issues you won't need to use it.

Hey guys so I've been reading up and it comes to my attention that people here don't recommend setcpu rather fauxclock or system tuner. I come from g2x and everyone there recommended setcpu and I am pretty used to it ( simple interface) and I want to know why people don't use it here

sorry double post
bump, please answer guys! thank you
I believe setcpu doesn't play nice with this phone (it didn't with the vibrant). If I'm not mistaken faux was made new for this phone.
I've used SetCPU since beta and have had 0 issues. I have heard that FauxClock is better with voltage control and a few more settings.
