I am sure maybe many of you have heard of or used the today launcher called Active UI from V2R http://www.v2r.ag/ And those who did probably said its not so great or not so useful compared to other things out there. But with all things considered there was something I noticed when using active UI with the round animation pack(which is free) Using your thumb to click it activates it, now when its in its active state drag your thumb down and it will close it, drag your thumb left left or right and it will scroll left or right. Select any tree item and then drag your thumb up or down and that will scroll up or down. So that is three different distinct dragging motions in one program, one closes, one scrolls sideways, one scrolls up and down.
Why bring this up? With all the talk etc about touchflow and how it couldnt work on hermes different lcd panel etc(and most recently stated just a driver issue) Here is a program thats already using three different drag motions. Just thought I would share it for those who didnt already know. The round animations are really not too shabby, the only problem I have is that it shrinks itself down, which many may like, but it is very slow to open to its fully round state, if it were instant, or just full round state constantly I think it would be much better.
Try it yourself and see, basic is free.

hi guys i'm a newbie here keen on knowing if any masters out here have successfully got rid of the 6.5.3 bottom bar for 6.5 styled. personally i really hate the big n ugly 6.5.3 bottom bar -- my phone has got 4 hardware buttons so there's really no need to upsize them on screen the only thing i might find upsizing useful is keyboard show/hide, which btw i find is exactly what wm7 is doing.
http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/11/18/windows-mobile-7-ui-confirmed-by-microsoft
Um, the entire point of 6.5.3 is that bottom bar... That makes it far more finger friendly along with some other small tweaks to some drop downs and check boxes. Otherwise it is essentially the same as 6.5.

you can search for 218xx series 6.5 rom. These are old style 6.5 roms.

I think a better way to say it is: When one goes to a 6.5.3 ROM, how does he get rid of the retarded oversized buttons at the bottom of the screen?

But I dont really think it's practical. They' could've simply made a larger top bar, with regular buttons at the bottoms.
So there is no way to make the bottom bar thinner/ return to the WM6.5 setup in 6.5.3?

seems like there's no way around this...my point is that i don't need the bottom bar to be finger friendly, i just need it to show labels for my left/right soft buttons, which are hardware buttons i can happily press with my finger.
the only ui improvement i see in 6.5.3 is the tabs being replaced by pivots, which sadly do not feature kinetic scrolling...think i'll still stick to 6.5 for the time being and wait to see what com5 will be like...
Or try my theme with the Plain Toolbar. Perhaps this is what you want?

ENTIRE POINT, lol...
WM6.5.3 has a big bottom bar. Period. Why make a bigger top bar where your thumb can't easily reach one handed. The idea is to make everything within reach of your THUMB, which is the fattest digit on your hand, thus needs a bigger area.
Stop using a WM6.5.x OS as a standard Wm6.5 device. Sure if you use your phone with your 1 hand while tapping the screen with your index finger of your other hand, then bigger buttons are a waste. But start using your phone with one hand, like we used to, and you'll appricieate the bigger buttons.
The whole new layout style is built from the ground up. Themes, Graphics, UI settings, image height, everything is revamped to allow the new style. You can't simply flip a switch and flip flop. It is what it is. If you don't like the new style, then use an build based off of the old style. It's that simple.
bottom bar is the best thing that has happened to WM

Seriously? Does it still look like this? Because this is the fugliest interface I've seen in a LONG time.

I don't know any fix or tweak for the soft button bar, but you can tweak sizes of a lot of other features, such as the pop-up menu items which are way too big for my tastes, and the spacing in file explorer and and regedit. The main 6.5.x-specific registry keys are all in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today (menu and listview), and they are imported with the .tsk files. I've got a thread on it here.
I'll add, there are also registry keys that sound from their name that they might tweak the size of the soft key bar (like the group under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Softkeybar, lol), but I haven't played with them at all. I like the large size, even though I thought it was fugly as hell before I actually tried it out. The problem is that I think you may need to tweak other things, like the \RadioButton or \PushButton keys, so it may take some effort to shrink the thing down and to shrink the soft keys.
However the release date of WM7 has been delayed. Microsoft may still find WM7 has something that should be improved.
Farmer Ted: tks for the advice...i'll play around with the reg and see what happens
i think different ppl have different ideas about a big bottom bar, which boils down to dif usage habits and handsets. that's why i think ms should give an option for 'classic' bottom bar like they do with vista/7. i prefer operating my handset with thumb only as well, but as said my diamond2 has got 4 buttons so i don't actually have to press the bottom bar buttons on screen.
astart: i find wm7 bottom bar better from the screen shots, though the battery/signal indicators are just a dumb waste of real estate...
I was sceptical at first too. Didn't see the point of losing any screen space.
But I have to say that having the buttons below, although I have HW-buttons, is much easier to use. Just touch, not press.
At to that your skin of choice and you are all set
I do however find the topbar still something to work on.
Maybe an app to hide and unhide the top/bottom bars would do the trick..
If there is an need.
The bottom bar is not wasted screen space because it grew by the same amount the top bar shrunk. It is better in every way. There was a whole lot of extra room down there (two softkeys and the SIP button) while the top was crowded.
With the new way, there bottom now has 5 buttons, everything fits just perfectly, but now the top can have both clock and battery at the same time, a bunch of status indicators, and still hold the full program name on the left. No more screen space was used, yet more was fit on and start and OK are easier to hit with your fingers now (though those buttons have been on most recent devices making them a bit redundant, though keeping them is better than not having them at all).

Anyway, I don't understand why MS didn't remove the Start and close buttons altogether - after all, all (?) devices have these as hardware buttons. This way, apps would have 4 softkeys...
First time really using Mango. I just love the bar at the bottom in IE. As mobile's get bigger it's stunningly awesome. The only thing left I want is for it to hide and I'll swipe to go get it and swiping tabs.
Very cool feature. Thought I would hate it at first.
Its different. But they really need to revamp I.e. N quick and accessible back and forward buttons

I second that, what with these huge screens now it's so easy to get to, whereas before was a bit of an effort, especially if you're in bed using it lying down.

I don't get it - why do you like the address bar being permanently stuck there? Do you really need to constantly look down and be reminded of what site you're on?
Back / Forward / Favourites / Tabs buttons like on iOS (or WP7 pre-Mango) would be far more useful. I honestly can't see how being able to see the URL of the site is a cool feature; would love it if you could explain..

You should read better. He just likes the new position. But he clearly said that he would want it to hide after a few seconds.
I love the address-bar at the bottom and I agree it would be even more awesome if it had autohide after a few secs.
I prefer it at the bottom with no autohide. when i am done reading a site, i want to type a new address or go to favorites, not mess with trying to make it reappear.
It also is following windows 8 metro IE 10. It's the same way.

Just tap anywhere on a site that doesn't contain a link. Your address bar should disappear. At least it does on my W8 CP when I left click.
On my Trophy, the address bar at the bottom is a pain for me. I do a lot of single-hand typing - when the address bar was at the top, it was easy to 'thumb', but now its just not as easy...more risk me dropping the phone etc.
Plus I now sometimes accidentally press the windows or back button as well, when selecting the bar.
A simple option in settings would be nice.

confirmed. Not sure why i didn't notice the behavior. You have to wait for the site to finish loading before it will minimize. on Windows 8 CP
Its good and there should be a button to swap tabs at the side of the address bar.
I feel like Windows Phone 8 will bring a lot of gestures and UX elements from Windows 8. For example IE will be full screen on the phone and you would swipe from the top bar to bring up the menus.. Super awesome I think. Then in the menu you can add the address bar, back and forward buttons or whatever common functions you need in IE.
i don't care if the address bar is at bottom or on top. i need the "find on page" back. i almost stopped using the browser.

There's a JavaScript that does exactly that. Add it to your favorites and voila, you have your find on page feature back. Not as convenient as having it as part of the menu though.
So I always have my gs3 and ipad handy at night and like to browse the forums. My ipad has a nifty ability of touching the status bar to automatically scroll to the top of the page when I'm finished. On my gs3 it can be a pita racing to the top. I have anxiety and insomnia so I like things to be as quick and efficient as possible. With all these needless fillers said, do we have this ability on our phones, is there a mod we can use?
There's double tap to top of list but unfortunately I've only seen that work in contacts.. Doesn't seem to work with the xda app. Go to motion settings and enable it and see what it works with.
Thanks for the reply. I only tried chrome and stock browser but nada. I did find a neat litte shortcut wheel with a nice array of option sets per section in settings>labs. Maybe I can drop a suggestion to add scroll to the top, but to where
I seen on google, there was this guy having trouble writing a code over the summer but he never mentioned if he ever completed it.
Scroll with your finger on the far far right of the screen. It activates a fast scrolling option. I do it by accident all the time and have to find where I was on the page before that.
Hi there,
Just got a new Galaxy Tab 3 10.1. There's a line of apps installed below the page/panel indicator on the home screens, with a bunch of (to me) ill chosen apps. But I can't drag them off the screen to delete them, like I can the ones above the page indicator. I can't find any mention of what this apparently separate panel is called to search better.
Of interest, are people happy with their purchase of one of these? So far I'm finding it pretty ordinary - not horrible, just ordinary...

Just drag the apps on the lower part of your home screen to the upper part where it says delete. then you can go to your apps and drag them to the lower part of your home screen to add them in the dock
If you're saying about the lock screen then I don't know
Hi!
I'm pretty happy with the tab 10.1! With the latest OTA update it runs even smoother! The runtime is great, can handle up to 5 days with daily usage without charging. I received my leather case today, a 360° case.. I can put it horizontal or vertical and it "wakes up" when i open the case.
With that prize its an absolutely recommendation.
Greetings

Hi there,
On the default home page, there's two large widgets on the top (weather and news). Below that there's a Google search bar. Below that there's a row of shortcuts. These all behave normally. Below that there's the page/panel indicator (telling you which home page you're on) and then at the bottom there's another row of shortcuts. It's that last, bottom row that I'm having trouble with. They don't seem to act normally - I can't drag them off to delete as normal. They appear to be hardwired. They are not the choice I would select and I want to change them.
Are other people able to delete these shortcuts?
Thanks!

I have the same problem. I'm tired of reading the answer "click and hold then drag it up". It seems to be the stock answer on all forums. They won't move! No matter what I do, the ridiculous row of apps bottom most on the screen is stuck. There's no help for this in the help app/widget. Someone must know how to unlock these darn things. I want to replace them with ones I use regularly.

Qranparoger,
Unfortunately that is the correct answer of click and hold and move. I just did it to mine and I can move two of the three apps I have in the bottom row. The only one that cannot move is APPS. My SETTINGS and FIREFOX can both be moved to the main screen above the bottom row.
My tab is rooted, but uses stock rom. There is nothing special about what I have done. I checked settings to see if I had changed a display or security function but I do not see anything. I do remember when I first got the tab that I too was having problems. But I do remember solving it and removing the bottom row (except APPS) and rearranging the icons or deleting the icons.
It think that maybe it might be in the APPLICATION MANAGER in SETTINGS that you "Turn Off" the app and it might vanish from the bottom of the screen. Again, I cannot remember how I did it but it can be done.

Latest ROM update - still can't change the apps. My tab isn't rooted, and I couldn't be bothered to now. I don't necessarily want to "turn off" the apps, just not use my precious home screen space. Anyway, I solved the problem by buying a Nexus. Yep, free Samsung is just collecting dust, piece of rubbish... Before anyone rages on me, there's a bunch of reasons I didn't like the Samsung, not just this one thing.
