Help with kernel - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im sorry, the samsung set up seems so much more confusing than an htc phone and i was wondering what kernels work with the bonsai rom and maybe if there are any SBC kernels or if anyone recommends any?

Go to the dev section and search for kernels to see what works...as far as opinion, see my signature.

From personal experience, most kernels in the dev section break root with bonsai. If you like the bonsai rom, you're best sticking with the bonsai kernel.

Whats the Best Kernel for battery life???

I need to know the best kernel i'm currently on netarchy's 4.18 i and I have seen kingkilcks but I flash his #8 cfs but it made my phone lag alot and #7 seem to run battery down, but I can't be positive cuz I didn't run it for more than an hour...basically I wanna know wut's the best kernel for battery life? or opinions at least
Running snaps 7.5 or. 6 don't recall ATM but the battery life is crazy
from the fade
Kings #9 is pretty close to the new stock kernel ...
I'm having the best luck with Netarchy's 4.1.9.1 beta on my 002 EVO. I don't even have to use SetCPU to underclock for more battery that's how nice the kernel is.
I agree with cMeka
I am running Baked Snack 1.7 ROM with Kings BFS#9 kernel and the battery life is awesome.
P.S. Battery life got even better on Kings #9 after uninstalling SetCPU. SetCPU interferes with H/AVS and defeats the purpose.
Good Luck!

okay i will but then how would I over clock the fone, or should i just not set up profiles?
Can someone explain the difference between kernels and roms? Also do you have to wipe in order to flash new kernels the same way you would a new rom?

Kernels basically control the hardware. Roms not so much hardware as software(trying to be real simple for ya). Wipe cache and davlik.

I've got a noob question...... Can you flash just a kernel and just use a stock rom?
I'm rooted and just using clockworkmod, at the moment.

If your rooted then yeah you can. Make sure its for sense roms first. There are sense and asop (senseless roms like cm6)

no, it isnt. none of the king kernels are. they are waaaay out of date, and it turns out, kingklick just stole most of the code from other devs. either use netarchy's newest, or ziggy's newest. thats mostly all you have for sense.
Personally, any sense rom can drain battery, but the best i have seen is Baked Battery Kernel. Awesome battery life and it is very fast.

oh not ota 3.70 based. that's probably why it works. any kernel not 15 based usually gets terrible results on 3.70 ota so i guess you found a loophole there . i did hear very good things about that kernel so glad to know it can still be applied to good work.
I am getting good results with ziggy (calkulin rom) and suggesting to try it.

Most of the time i do use Cyanogenmod instead because, everybody knows, it has a wayyyyyy better battery life. Sense needs an app freezer, like titanium backup pro, so that they dont just start up again.

I'm not opposed to using a different rom, I just haven't gotten in to that area yet. Where's a good place to read about "sense" and different types of roms and reasons for using particular ones? Appearance I guess is the main reason? I'm just about ready to dive of this cliff. Thanks!

[Q] Battery Kernal?!?!

So I decided to root my evo a couple of days ago but I didnt flash any roms so Im still using the stock sense ui. Are there any good battery kernels to use with stock sense ui because Im having a hard time finding any? What do you guys suggest?

If I were running a sense ROM I would flash Netarchy's kernels...
netarchy or ziggy's are your main choice listed on XDA. else where on the web you can find Baked kernel and kings kernel.
i would just start with Netarchy and see how it goes.
Thanks alot guys. Ill try them out...
I'm kind of slow with this. Which file would I download if I wanted to use a kernal out of this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876590

First make sure u read up on SBC so you are aware of any 'possible ' issues. That said I use SBC, and I would use the netarchy 4.2.2 less aggressive HAVS
i dont really suggest using a SBC kernel personally. if you decide yuo want to it depends the more aggresive the undervolt the better the battery. this can impact performance and not all phones like an aggressive undervolt kernel and can reboot more often.
I would jsut find the netarchy kernel thread itself and lookf or the latest and try the aggressive undervolt kernel. if you have performance issues (random reboots) then flash the less aggressive one.
I'm not really digging an SBC Kernal as well. You of any good kernels that aren't SBC?
SBC-HTC15
Best yet

Really surprised no one sent you to MYN's warm 2.2 rom thread....great rom....lots of great kernal options....lots of mods...it truly is the king of roms for your evo...give it a try you won't be disappointed...let me know if you have any questions. Mike

[Q] Best kernel and rom combination for battery life?

So I decided to go back to an Epic instead of an Evo. I had the Epic when it first came out up until around January. Last things I remember from the Epic development scene was Herver and his Baked Snack Roms and Kernels. (what ever happened to him anyways?) I am obviously in no way familiar with the current crop of roms and kernels and would appreciate suggestions on where to start and I'll test combos to see what works best for me. Froyo and Gingerbread based Roms please.
Try out simply asop 4

Good choice. Don't overclock if battery life is a concern. If you want some overclock, go with 1200. I have 2 batteries so I run 1400 max

I too am looking for the best battery life and I'm having trouble getting it. Currently trying out latest random rom for EC05 and its decent but nothing amazing, I've also loaded the super V6 memory script and the battery just doesn't hold up very well. Where can I get the old baked snack roms?
Sorry to let you guys down, but I can't seem to find the files for baked snack. I'll keep looking though.
i had excellent battery life on the bonsai rom and kernel
Rebirth + Genocide, 38 hrs. moderate use........
Syndicate frozen 1.2 and genocide 2.0 give me the best battery and stability so far, but random rom is a very close second, and then probably viper synergy 5.0. The gb leaks were good with battery too, but I had too many fc issues with them. I would love to try this baked snack I keep reading about though. I've seen a lot of random posts here and there mentioning it, and always boasting about the battery life on it. A pm with any info on its whereabouts would be greatly appreciated. Then again, syndicate 1.3 seems to be just around the corner too, so I'm really interested to see what's in store with that as well.

I am hooked on random rom hawk, battery life is amazing. It usually only drops about 1-2% an hour for me sitting idle. I have heard urban warfare is very good on battery life as well. Gingerbread leak roms are still pretty unstable at this point though. Only try them if you have a good backup procedure down, and are prepared to get hit with force closes and random reboots at any given time. If you need the stability, stick with EC05 roms.

I've tried several roms froyo and gb and the best battery and performance I seen was with randomroms 2.3. Rom but the random reboots kept pissing me off so I wentt to pheonix and its been pretty good I hadbetter battery life with hawk but this is better for now.
I also would like to try backed snack so if anyone has the url t the rom or anything can you please let me know
I found one rom a long time ago butit was 2.1 so I didn't like it I kno there is a froyo one but I can't find it anywhere if anyone has it it would be greatly appreciated if you shared it.

I would recc. simply asop4. an update to the rom is also coming so be prepared for that. then get setcpu and UV the voltages as you wish. I have -25 200-600 and -50 800-1000 and finally -25 >1000.

What do you mean? Google find it for me in <2 minutes.
Im gonna have to try ViperRom...even though it's outdated

Yes, It's another one of these

I need a ROM that fulfills the following reqs:
Stable: Must be stable as this is for a non techie so... yeah
Fast: Better performance then the original ROM
Good battery life: This is a MUST
Clean: No crapware preinstalled
And preferably gingerbread although if froyo is better...
Thanks guys
For the best battery life and speed it will need to be froyo since devs don't have GB source to work with. I always like the Bonsai froyo ROMs. Google Bonsai android for their site. I am currently using Hurricane 1.6 Gingerbread Rom but you have to do some tricks to make it stable and keep it from rebooting randomly.

Exactly what i'm looking for also. Bump.
Yeah... That wont work.I need something that wont crash if you give it 8 espresso shots and wait a few hours.
So i need something stable.
Stick with froyo if you want the best chance at stability. Syndicate rom frozen 1.2 has always been old trusty for me and a lot of others. Be sure to flash a kernel immediately after the rom, as it does not include one. Urban regeneration is another good choice. You almost can't go wrong with any of the great froyo roms at this point. As kenny said, there are ways to make gb roms run fairly stable, but it takes a lot of effort.

You just read my mind. I was about to ask about syndicate ROM
I'll have to give it a try then.
Look into twilight and genocide kernel. There are a few others that will work well with it, I prefered genocide when I was running srf 1.2.

acs 1.2 and genocide 2.0
This pair works pretty well, phone feels snappier and nothing strange occuring after about a week or two of solid use - battery is maybe a bit better but I'm charging whenever I can.

While there are always more obscure others you might want to find... if you're looking for the best, you can start with the most popular. Check out the top threads on the development forum and see what people are saying.

Well, since he didn't want to shill his own rom.. i'll sing it's praises.. randomrom phoenix 2.2 is awesome. super snappy, no freezes or crashing and does above average on battery life.
Simply AOSP 4.01 is also super fast, and very slimmed down. There are a decent number of options for Froyo roms that you should be happy with..
SRF 1.2 is my "trusty old axe" too... I like Twilight Zone kernel. Isn't there a fix out for the SU Binary issue with Genocide 2.0? I haven't tried it yet.
You can't go wrong with anything by Computerkid23 or Random, either...

Jeep guy still owes me some hot wings so I'm going to correct his post.
Save these links, they come in handy.
Here are the rogue custom kernels, scroll down to the -Archive- section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1341564&highlight=team+rogue
Here are the stock and also some of the older custom kernels:
http://www.android.net/forum/downloads.php?s=&do=cat&id=20
Edit: To avoid any confusion, these kernels are for Gingerbread based ROMs.
Is there still any development going on for GB kernels? It seems like when ICS started showing up that kernel dev slacked off. Would love to see some new kernels that are tweaked for better battery life.

In my experience rouge gunslinger gave me AMAZING battery life I could easily get 2 days of use out of it but it made my rom run a little laggy. I am using EL26 right now with StrongSteves Odexed blue and it FLIES and battery life is still pretty good. Not as good as gunslinger but I couldn't deal with the lagging. Every device is different though you might get amazing battery life and performance with Gunslinger. Stay away from hitman it has caused a lot of problems.
